What is Gateways To Eternity?

1 part

Gateways To Eternity is in the pack at version 5.1.0, and it has been here since FTB StoneBlock 4 1.0.0 or earlier. In the quest book it shows up through one item, the Gate Pearl.[1][2][3]

Where the quest book places it

Most of the Gate Pearl quests sit in the bounty board chapter. a quest in "?", a quest in "?", a quest in "?" and a quest in "?" each pair a Gate Pearl item task with a kill task.[2]

a quest in "?" in the same chapter is bigger. It combines a structure task, a Gate Pearl item task, an Abyssal Sacrifice item task and a kill task.[2]

The Gate Pearl also appears in the World Engine chapter for tier 4, in a quest in "?". Its tasks are all items: a Gate Pearl, an Abyssal Sacrifice and an Abyssal Egg. That quest comes after two other quests in the same chapter.[3]

How do you get started with Gateways To Eternity?

5 parts

Everything in Gateways To Eternity runs through the Gate Pearl. You use it on a block to summon a Gateway, so it's the first thing to make. This pack has several Gate Pearl recipes, and most of them have been changed from the mod's own.[4][5]

Step 1: Make your first Gate Pearl

Start with the Emerald Grove recipe. It's the mod's own recipe and the recipe dump doesn't mark it as changed by the pack.[4]

Step 2: Open a Gateway

Use the pearl on a block to summon a Gateway. It only works when the new Gateway wouldn't be too close to another Gateway, based on the current spacing.[5]

Watch out: An open Gateway fails in a burst of lightning if it cannot spawn a mob, if any active mob walks too far away, or if the wave timer elapses. Rewards spawn from the Gateway as they are obtained.[5]

Next: try the pack-changed recipes

Once you know how a Gateway fight plays out, look at the recipes the pack has changed. These are good ones to check next.[4]

Quests that use Gate Pearls

Gate Pearls show up in the quest book too. Several quests in the bounty board chapter have a Gate Pearl task alongside a kill task, such as a quest in "?", a quest in "?", a quest in "?" and a quest in "?". a quest in "?" adds a structure task on top of the pearl and kill tasks.[2]

Further on, a quest in "?" in the World Engine tier 4 chapter also asks for a Gate Pearl, along with other items. It unlocks after other quests.[3]

How does Gateways To Eternity work?

5 parts

Gateways To Eternity centers on the Gate Pearl. You use it on a block to summon a Gateway, and rewards spawn from the Gateway as you obtain them. The sources for this pack only cover the basics, so this section is short.[5]

Opening a Gateway

Using a Gate Pearl on a block summons a Gateway at that spot. It only works when the new Gateway would not be too close to another Gateway, based on the current spacing, so keep your Gateways spread out.[5]

How a Gateway can fail

An open Gateway fails in a burst of lightning if any of the following happens:[5]

  • It cannot spawn a mob.[5]
  • Any active mob walks too far away.[5]
  • The wave timer elapses.[5]
Tip: Don't let a fight drag on, and don't chase a stray mob. A mob that wanders too far, or a wave timer that runs out, ends the Gateway in a burst of lightning.[5]

Rewards

Rewards spawn from the Gateway as they are obtained, so you don't have to wait until the end to see loot.[5]

Getting Gate Pearls in this pack

Several recipes produce a Gate Pearl. The Apotheosis tiered recipes (frontier, ascent, summit and pinnacle) are shaped crafting recipes, and the pack has changed all of them. They are shown below exactly as they work in the pack.[4]

How do you progress through Gateways To Eternity?

3 parts

Gateways progression in this pack runs through one item: the Gate Pearl. The pack has several different recipes that all produce a Gate Pearl, and the quest book keeps asking you to hand one in.[2][3][4]

Gate Pearl recipes

The pack changed four shaped crafting recipes that produce a Gate Pearl. Their ids end in frontier, ascent, summit and pinnacle, and they sit under the Apotheosis namespace. Each one uses a different set of materials, so check each recipe below.[4]

Gateway-specific pearl recipes

Two more Gate Pearl recipes use the mod's own gate recipe type. Emerald Grove is the mod's own recipe, while Overworldian Nights has been changed by the pack.[4]

Quest path

The Bounty Board chapter has five quests, and each one has a Gate Pearl task and a kill task.[2]

The World Engine Tier 4 chapter has a quest in "?". It asks for a Gate Pearl, an Abyssal Sacrifice and an Abyssal Egg. It only unlocks after two earlier quests are done.[3]

How does Gateways To Eternity work with other mods?

3 parts

In this pack, Gateways To Eternity connects with other mods mainly through the Gate Pearl Gate Pearl. The recipes and quests below all revolve around it.[2][3][4]

Apotheosis and Apothic Enchanting

The Gate Pearl has shaped crafting recipes in the Apotheosis namespace, named ascent, summit and pinnacle. The pack has changed each of them. They draw on Apotheosis materials such as Gem Dust. The pinnacle recipe also needs Apothic Enchanting items, Infused Dragon's Breath and Warden Tendril. The sources do not show what the pack changed compared to the mod's defaults, so use the recipes below for the exact in-pack versions.[4]

Ender IO

The Overworldian Nights gate recipe also produces a Gate Pearl, and the pack has changed it. It pulls in an Ender IO item, Grains of Infinity, alongside vanilla items. Unlike the Apotheosis ones above, it is a gate recipe rather than a normal crafting recipe.[4]

Quests and Cataclysm

The bounty board quest chapter has several quests that ask for a Gate Pearl and include a kill task: a quest in "?", a quest in "?", a quest in "?", a quest in "?" and a quest in "?".[2]

The last of those, a quest in "?", goes further. Besides the Gate Pearl and the kill task, it has a structure task and an item task for the Cataclysm abyssal sacrifice, so it ties Gateways To Eternity to Cataclysm content.[2]

The World Engine tier 4 chapter has a similar quest, a quest in "?". Its tasks are a Gate Pearl plus the Cataclysm abyssal sacrifice and abyssal egg. It comes after other quests in that chapter.[3]

Which FTB StoneBlock 4 quests use Gateways To Eternity?

2 parts

Gateways To Eternity appears in the bounty board chapter and in the World Engine tier 4 chapter. Every quest involving it asks for the Gate Pearl, so it's worth getting comfortable with that item.[2][3]

Bounty board

None of the bounty board quests has a title in the pack files, so I can only point to them by ID. a quest in "?", a quest in "?", a quest in "?" and a quest in "?" each combine the same tasks: hand in a Gate Pearl and complete a kill task.[2]

a quest in "?" asks for more. Its tasks are a structure task, a Gate Pearl, an Abyssal Sacrifice from Cataclysm, and a kill task.[2]

World Engine, tier 4

In the World Engine tier 4 chapter, a quest in "?" asks you to submit a Gate Pearl, an Abyssal Sacrifice and an Abyssal Egg. It isn't a starting quest: it unlocks only after other quests in the same chapter are done.[3]

Tip: Gate Pearls are needed in both chapters, and some quests also want Cataclysm items, so plan your pearl supply before you start working through them.[2][3]
