What is Gateways To Eternity?

1 part

Gateways To Eternity is part of this pack's mod list. The pack ships version 5.1.0, and the mod has been included since 1.0.0 or earlier.[1]

Where you meet it in the quest book

In the quest book the mod shows up through one item, the Gate Pearl. It appears in two chapters, and in both it sits next to combat tasks or Cataclysm items.[2][3]

So in this pack, the Gate Pearl is something you hand in for bounty board quests and for a World Engine tier 4 quest.[2][3]

Unverified The sources here do not describe how gateways are opened or fought, since no in-jar guidebook was found for this mod. They also do not show whether the ATM Star quest path uses the mod.

How do you get started with Gateways To Eternity?

4 parts

Everything in Gateways To Eternity starts with one item: the Gate Pearl. You use it on a block to summon a Gateway, so your first goal is to craft one.[4]

How a Gate Pearl works

A Gateway can only be summoned if it wouldn't be too close to another Gateway, based on the current spacing. Pick an open spot before you use the pearl.[4]

Watch out: An open Gateway fails in a burst of lightning if it can't spawn a mob, if any active mob walks too far away, or if the wave timer runs out. Stay close to the fight. Rewards spawn from the Gateway as you obtain them.[4]

Step 1: Craft your first Gate Pearl

In this pack, Gate Pearls come from several different recipes. Start with the Emerald Grove recipe, which is the mod's own recipe.[5]

The pack changed the Frontier recipe, so it is worth checking this version rather than relying on mod defaults.[5]

Step 2: Move up to the Apotheosis-tier pearls

Ascent, Summit and Pinnacle are further Gate Pearl recipes tied to Apotheosis, and the pack changed these recipes. They use Apotheosis materials, and Pinnacle also uses Apothic Enchanting ones, so save them for when you have those flowing.[5]

Then follow the quests

The bounty board quest chapter pairs the Gate Pearl with kill tasks. These are a quest in "?", a quest in "?", a quest in "?", a quest in "?" and a quest in "?". Another one, a quest in "?", adds an Abyssal Sacrifice, a kill task and structure tasks.[2]

Further along, a quest in "?" in the World Engine tier 4 chapter asks for a Gate Pearl, an Abyssal Sacrifice and an Abyssal Egg. Treat it as a later goal.[3]

How does Gateways To Eternity work?

3 parts

Everything in Gateways To Eternity starts with the Gate Pearl. You use it on a block to summon a Gateway, and from there the Gateway runs its own challenge.[4]

Opening a Gateway

You can't place a Gateway just anywhere. The Gate Pearl only works when the new Gateway wouldn't be too close to another Gateway, based on the current spacing. If a pearl refuses to work, try moving further away from any Gateway that's already open.[4]

How a Gateway fails

An open Gateway collapses in a burst of lightning if any of these happens:[4]

  • It cannot spawn a mob.[4]
  • Any active mob walks too far away.[4]
  • The wave timer elapses.[4]

Rewards spawn from the Gateway as they are obtained, so you don't have to wait until the very end to see loot.[4]

Tip: Because a stray mob can make the Gateway fail, keep the fight contained and don't let enemies wander off.[4]

Getting Gate Pearls

In this pack, several different recipes produce a Gate Pearl. The frontier, ascent, summit and pinnacle tiered recipes have all been changed by the pack, and so has the overworldian nights recipe. The emerald grove recipe is the mod's own recipe, unchanged by the pack.[5]

How do you progress through Gateways To Eternity?

4 parts

In this pack, Gateways To Eternity revolves around the Gate Pearl. Both the mod's own gate recipes and the Apotheosis tiered recipes produce it, and the quests that mention the mod pair Gate Pearls with kill tasks. The sources don't lay out a full step-by-step order, so this section sticks to what they show.[2][3][5]

The tiered Gate Pearl recipes

The pack has Apotheosis-tiered Gate Pearl recipes, named frontier, ascent, summit and pinnacle. The recipe data marks frontier, ascent, summit and pinnacle as changed by the pack, so don't expect the mod's or Apotheosis's defaults.[5]

Gate-specific recipes

These recipes use the mod's own gate recipe type, and each makes a Gate Pearl for a specific gate. The Emerald Grove recipe is the mod's own, unchanged. The Overworldian Nights recipe has been changed by the pack, so follow the version shown here.[5]

Quests that use Gate Pearls

The bounty board chapter holds several quests that combine a kill task with a Gate Pearl item task. They are all untitled in the quest data, so here they are by ID: a quest in "?", a quest in "?", a quest in "?", a quest in "?" and a quest in "?".[2]

a quest in "?" in the same chapter goes further. It has a Gate Pearl item task, an Abyssal Sacrifice item task, a kill task and two structure tasks. Expect some exploring as well as fighting before you can finish it.[2]

World Engine tier 4

The World Engine tier 4 chapter has a quest in "?", which asks you to hand in a Gate Pearl, an Abyssal Sacrifice and an Abyssal Egg. It only unlocks after two earlier quests are done.[3]

Tip: The Abyssal Sacrifice shows up in both the bounty board quest and the tier 4 quest, so it's worth getting early if you plan to do both.[2][3]

How does Gateways To Eternity work with other mods?

3 parts

In this pack, the Gate Pearl is where Gateways To Eternity meets the rest of your modpack. The recipes that produce it use materials from other mods, and the pack has changed every one of the recipes listed here.[5]

Apotheosis and Apothic Enchanting recipes

The Gate Pearl has crafting recipes in the Apotheosis namespace, split into the tiers ascent, summit and pinnacle. The ascent recipe uses Gem Dust and apotheosis:rare_material, plus tag-based ingredients, so any ender pearl and any gold ingot will work.[5]

Ender IO in a gate recipe

The pack also changed a Gateways recipe called overworldian_nights. It is a gate recipe type rather than a normal crafting recipe, and it produces a Gate Pearl. It brings in Grains of Infinity from Ender IO alongside vanilla items like Ender Pearl and Redstone.[5]

Gate Pearls also show up in the pack's quest book, where they are paired with items from Cataclysm. In the bounty board chapter, a quest in "?" has a Gate Pearl item task and a Abyssal Sacrifice item task, plus a kill task and structure tasks.[2]

Other bounty board quests, namely a quest in "?", a quest in "?", a quest in "?", a quest in "?" and a quest in "?", each pair a kill task with a Gate Pearl item task.[2]

In the World Engine tier 4 chapter, a quest in "?" has item tasks for a Gate Pearl, Abyssal Sacrifice and Abyssal Egg. It comes after earlier quests in that chapter.[3]

Which FTB StoneBlock 4 quests use Gateways To Eternity?

2 parts

Same as in the FTB StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 guide

Gateways To Eternity appears in the Bounty Board and World Engine Tier 4 quest chapters of this pack. Both centre on the Gate Pearl, so it's worth getting comfortable with that item.[6][7]

Bounty Board chapter

Several quests in this chapter involve the Gate Pearl. Most of them are built the same way: each has a kill task plus an item task for the Gate Pearl. Those are a quest in "?", a quest in "?", a quest in "?", a quest in "?" and a quest in "?".[6]

a quest in "?" asks for more. It has an item task for the Gate Pearl, an item task for Abyssal Sacrifice, a kill task and structure tasks.[6]

World Engine, Tier 4

This chapter has a quest that involves the mod: a quest in "?". Its tasks are all items: the Gate Pearl, Abyssal Sacrifice and Abyssal Egg.[7]

It comes after the quests a quest in "?" and a quest in "?", so you'll want to get through those first.[7]

Tip: The last Bounty Board quest listed above and the World Engine Tier 4 quest both ask for the Gate Pearl together with the Abyssal Sacrifice item. If you're heading toward either one, plan for both items.[6][7]
