What is AttributeFix?
2 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 2.12 guide
AttributeFix is a behind-the-scenes fix mod. Minecraft uses an attribute system for important calculations such as armor values, attack damage and the maximum health of a mob, and that system also puts caps on how high any of those values can go.[1]
You usually won't notice those caps, but plenty of mods run into them without realizing it. AttributeFix raises the caps significantly so those mods can work the way their authors intended. That's why its tagline is that it fixes many mods![1]
Attributes it uncaps
- Max Health[1]
- Follow Range[1]
- Knockback Resistance[1]
- Movement Speed[1]
- Attack Damage[1]
- Attack Speed[1]
- Armor[1]
- Armor Toughness[1]
- Luck[1]
Who it's for
This one is really for everyone playing the pack, because it helps other mods behave correctly. If you're stacking armor, boosting your health or building a big damage setup with gear from other mods, AttributeFix is what keeps those high values from being quietly cut off by vanilla's limits.[1]
This pack ships AttributeFix version 21.1.2 for NeoForge 1.21.1, and it has been part of the pack since its early releases.[2]
Unverified The sources don't show whether AttributeFix adds any items, recipes or quests, and they don't give the exact cap values the pack uses, so those details aren't covered here.
How do you get started with AttributeFix?
1 part
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
Good news: there's nothing you need to craft to get started with AttributeFix. It's a fixer mod that works in the background. It doesn't add a first item to build or a progression step to follow.[1]
Minecraft handles important calculations through an attribute system, covering everything from armor values to attack damage to a mob's maximum health. That system also has caps that limit how high any value can go. Many mods are unknowingly affected by those caps, and AttributeFix significantly raises them so those mods can work as they were intended.[1]
Attributes it affects
- Max Health[1]
- Follow Range[1]
- Knockback Resistance[1]
- Movement Speed[1]
- Attack Damage[1]
- Attack Speed[1]
- Armor[1]
- Armor Toughness[1]
- Luck[1]
In practice, this means gear, effects and mobs from other mods in the pack that push these stats high aren't held back by the vanilla limits.[1]
Unverified I couldn't confirm any in-pack recipes, quests, items or config values for AttributeFix, so there are no recipe blocks or setup steps in this section. The exact new cap values used in this pack are also unverified.
How does AttributeFix work?
3 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 2.11 guide
If you came here looking for machines, multiblocks or pipes, AttributeFix doesn't have any. It's a behind-the-scenes fix mod with no items or blocks for you to build. What it does is quietly remove limits in one of Minecraft's core systems so that lots of other mods can work properly.[1]
The attribute system
Minecraft uses an attribute system to handle important calculations. It covers everything from armor values, to attack damage, to the maximum health of a mob. Whenever gear, effects or mods change a stat like that, it goes through this system.[1]
The problem: attribute caps
The attribute system also comes with caps that limit how high any value can go. You usually won't notice them, but many mods are affected by them without knowing it. For example, a mod might try to push a stat past the cap and end up weaker than its designer intended.[1]
What AttributeFix changes
AttributeFix raises these caps a lot, so the mods that change attributes behave the way their authors meant them to. You don't need to do anything to use it. It just works in the background.[1]
These are the attributes the mod's project page lists as affected:[1]
- Max Health[1]
- Follow Range[1]
- Knockback Resistance[1]
- Movement Speed[1]
- Attack Damage[1]
- Attack Speed[1]
- Armor[1]
- Armor Toughness[1]
- Luck[1]
Unverified The exact new cap values and whether they can be adjusted in this pack could not be confirmed. No config files for this mod are included in the pack, and the available source does not list specific numbers.
Which AttributeFix config options matter?
3 parts
AttributeFix raises the caps Minecraft puts on attributes, so mods that need bigger numbers can work as intended. Each attribute gets its own small file under config/attributefix, and every file has the same options: a highest value, a lowest value, and a switch for whether the range is modified at all.[1][3]
Armor, health and damage
These are the attributes most players will care about. In this pack, each of them has the range modification switched on and a top cap of 1,000,000. Each file shows the same value as its listed default, so the pack has not changed them.[3][4][5]
- Armor: max.value is 1,000,000, min.value is 0 and modify_range.value is true.[3]
- Max health: max.value is 1,000,000, min.value is 1 and modify_range.value is true.[4]
- Attack damage: max.value is 1,000,000, min.value is 0 and modify_range.value is true.[5]
Unverified Armor toughness is also on the mod's list of affected attributes. Its values are set in config/attributefix/minecraft/generic.armor_toughness.json, and the sources here do not show that file's contents.
The value this pack changed
The one change I can confirm is knockback resistance. The mod's default minimum (min.//default) is -2, but this pack sets min.value to 0. In practice, knockback resistance in this pack can't go below 0.[6]
Other caps you may run into
What changed in AttributeFix between versions?
FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.10.0 ships AttributeFix 21.1.3, built for NeoForge 1.21.1. It has been in the pack since 1.0.3 or earlier, so it's one of the long-standing mods here.[13]
The only changelog entry I have for 21.1.3 is "Update build dependencies." That's a behind-the-scenes change to how the mod is built, and the entry doesn't describe any gameplay change.[14]
Unverified I don't have any pack changelog entries for this mod, so I can't say what changed for it between pack releases or which AttributeFix versions earlier pack releases used.
