What is Refined Storage - Mekanism Integration?

1 part

Refined Storage - Mekanism Integration is the bridge between Refined Storage and Mekanism in this pack. The pack ships version 1.0.0 of it, and it has been in the pack since 1.0.1 or earlier.[1]

What you can see in the pack is a line of chemical storage parts in four sizes: 64B Chemical Storage Part, 256B Chemical Storage Part, 1024B Chemical Storage Part and 8192B Chemical Storage Part. If you already run Refined Storage and want to bring Mekanism chemicals into the same system, these parts are what you're after.[2]

Where it fits in progression

The quest book gives you a clear upgrade ladder. In the second Refined Storage chapter, the four storage parts are chained one after another, each quest unlocking once the previous one is done:[2]

  1. a quest in "?" asks you to obtain the 64B Chemical Storage Part.[2]
  2. a quest in "?" asks for the 256B Chemical Storage Part.[2]
  3. a quest in "?" asks for the 1024B Chemical Storage Part.[2]
  4. a quest in "?" asks for the 8192B Chemical Storage Part.[2]

So the pack expects you to start with the smallest part and work your way up to the biggest one as your chemical storage needs grow.[2]

Unverified Recipes, configuration options and the exact mechanics of how chemicals are stored and accessed are not confirmed by the sources for this section, and the mod's place in the ATM Star path is not shown either, so check in-game before relying on any of that.

How do you get started with Refined Storage - Mekanism Integration?

4 parts

This mod adds chemical storage to Refined Storage. You get storage parts, disks and blocks in four tiers: 64B, 256B, 1024B and 8192B. Everything starts with the part, so that's the first thing you'll make.[3][4]

Step 1: the 64B part

Craft the 64B Chemical Storage Part first. Both the disk and the block are built from a part, and it's the entry point of the pack's quest chain in the Refined Storage 2 chapter, starting with a quest in "?".[2][3]

Step 2: turn it into a disk

Next, make the 64B Chemical Storage Disk and put it in your Disk Drive. The mod's own advancement for this is to craft a Chemical Storage Disk and put it in your Disk Drive.[3][4]

If you already have a Storage Housing, there's a shapeless alternative that combines it with the part.[3]

Step 3: or use a block

If you'd rather have a standalone block, craft the 64B Chemical Storage Block. It's built from the same part plus a Machine Casing. The mod also has config options for how much energy each Chemical Storage Block uses.[3][4]

Step 4: upgrade through the tiers

Each higher part is crafted from the part of the tier below it. The quests follow the same order: a quest in "?" for the 256B part, then a quest in "?" for the 1024B part, and finally a quest in "?" for the 8192B part.[2][3]

Tip: Disks and blocks can be upgraded by combining them with a higher-tier Chemical Storage Part. When one is empty, hold it and use it to get the Chemical Storage Part back. A block also returns its Machine Casing.[4]

Unverified The exact capacity of each tier in buckets isn't confirmed in the sources I have, so check the item tooltip in game.

How does Refined Storage - Mekanism Integration work?

4 parts

This mod adds chemical storage to Refined Storage. You get Chemical Storage Disks and Chemical Storage Blocks in these tiers: 64B, 256B, 1024B and 8192B. There are also Creative versions of both the disk and the block. This section covers how they work, how you upgrade them and what they cost to run.[4]

Disks and blocks

The basic loop is simple. Craft a Chemical Storage Disk, then put it in your Disk Drive. The mod's own advancement for this is called Storing Chemicals.[4]

Both the disks and the blocks show a tooltip saying how many buckets they store. The Creative Chemical Storage Disk and the Creative Chemical Storage Block both store an infinite amount.[4]

Returning and upgrading

  • An empty disk gives you its Chemical Storage Part back when you use it while holding it.[4]
  • An empty block returns the Chemical Storage Part and the Machine Casing when you use it while holding it.[3][4]
  • Disks and blocks can both be upgraded to a higher tier by combining them with a Chemical Storage Part.[4]
Watch out: The tooltips only promise a refund for an empty disk or block. Empty it before you try to get the part back.[4]

Crafting the tiers

Everything starts with the storage part. The 64B Chemical Storage Part is the entry point. The 256B and 1024B part recipes each take the part of the tier below as an ingredient.[3]

Once you have a part, you turn it into a disk or a block. Here is the 64B tier as the example. The 256B, 1024B and 8192B tiers each have matching disk and block recipes.[3]

Each disk also has a shapeless recipe that combines a part with a Storage Housing from Refined Storage. This is handy if you already have housings lying around.[3]

Energy use

Each block type has its own energy usage option in the common config. The pack's values are listed below. They are the same as the mod defaults, so the pack has not changed them. Each option accepts a value from 0 up to 9,223,372,036,854,775,807.[5]

Tip: Energy usage goes up with each tier. A bigger block costs more to run, so factor that into your network's power budget.[5]

Unverified The sources don't give the exact bucket capacity of each tier, because the tooltip fills in the number at runtime. They also don't give the unit for the energy values, the recipe for the 8192B Chemical Storage Part, or how the blocks connect to a network. Check these in-game before relying on them.

How do you progress through Refined Storage - Mekanism Integration?

3 parts

This mod adds chemical storage to Refined Storage in four tiers: 64B, 256B, 1024B and 8192B. Every tier comes as a storage part, a disk and a block, and the part is the item that drives the whole progression. You craft the part first, then turn it into a disk or a block.[2][3]

The quest path

In the pack's Refined Storage questline, the four tiers are a straight chain. Each quest unlocks after the one before it, and each one asks you to get the matching storage part.[2]

  1. a quest in "?": get the 64B Chemical Storage Part. It unlocks after an earlier quest in the same chapter.[2]
  2. a quest in "?": get the 256B Chemical Storage Part.[2]
  3. a quest in "?": get the 1024B Chemical Storage Part.[2]
  4. a quest in "?": get the 8192B Chemical Storage Part. This is the last tier in the chain.[2]

These quests have no titles in the pack data, so they show up only by their IDs. The quests only ask for the parts. Disks and blocks are not quest tasks.[2]

Tier by tier: the parts

The 64B part is your entry point. It doesn't need any other chemical storage part as an ingredient.[3]

Every step after that uses the previous tier's part as an ingredient. You can't skip a tier, so you build up through all of them, just like the quest chain.[2][3]

Turning parts into disks and blocks

Each tier gives you a disk, which you can craft directly or from a storage housing, and a block. Only the part changes from tier to tier. Here are the 64B versions: 64B Chemical Storage Disk and 64B Chemical Storage Block.[3]

The higher tiers follow the same pattern with their own parts. You'll find 256B Chemical Storage Disk, 1024B Chemical Storage Disk and 8192B Chemical Storage Disk for disks. The matching blocks are 256B Chemical Storage Block, 1024B Chemical Storage Block and 8192B Chemical Storage Block.[3]

Tip: If you already have a Storage Housing, the shapeless disk recipe is the quickest way to get a disk. It only needs the housing and the part for that tier.[3]

Unverified The sources don't say what units the 64B to 8192B names stand for, or exactly how much each tier holds. Check the item tooltips in-game for the real capacities.

How does Refined Storage - Mekanism Integration work with other mods?

3 parts

This mod adds chemical storage parts, disks and blocks to Refined Storage, and the pack ties their crafting to Mekanism and Refined Storage items. The tiers are 64B, 256B, 1024B and 8192B.[3]

Mekanism: osmium and alloys

Osmium Ingot is the common thread. It appears in the part, disk and block recipes of every tier. The only exception is the Storage Housing shortcut for disks, which doesn't use it.[3]

Upgrading a part climbs the Mekanism alloy ladder. Each step up uses the next alloy: Infused Alloy, then Reinforced Alloy, then Atomic Alloy. The 64B part is the entry point and needs no alloy.[3]

Refined Storage: processors, casing and housing

The alloy ladder runs alongside a Refined Storage processor ladder. The 256B, 1024B and 8192B parts use Basic Processor, Improved Processor and Advanced Processor respectively. Each of those parts also builds on the part one tier below it.[3]

Storage blocks at every tier use a Machine Casing together with the matching part.[3]

For disks you can either craft one directly from a part, or combine a Storage Housing with a part in a shapeless recipe. Here is the 64B version, and the other tiers follow the same pattern.[3]

Quests

The "refined_storage_2" quest chapter has a chain of quests, one per part tier. Each asks you to obtain a part and the next one follows it, in this order: a quest in "?" for the 64B Chemical Storage Part, a quest in "?" for the 256B Chemical Storage Part, a quest in "?" for the 1024B Chemical Storage Part, and a quest in "?" for the 8192B Chemical Storage Part. The first one comes after an earlier quest.[2]

Tip: Because each part is built from the tier below it, craft the parts in order. The quest chain follows the same order, so you can use it as a checklist.[2][3]

Which FTB Skies 2 quests use Refined Storage - Mekanism Integration?

1 part

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

In this pack, this mod's quests all sit in one chapter, refined_storage_2. They form a short chain, and each quest asks you to obtain a chemical storage part, going from the smallest to the largest.[6]

The chemical storage part chain

  1. a quest in "?" asks for the 64B Chemical Storage Part. It unlocks after quest 6AA51581B0CA5271 in the same chapter, which is not one of this mod's quests.[6]
  2. a quest in "?" asks for the 256B Chemical Storage Part and unlocks after the previous quest in the list.[6]
  3. a quest in "?" asks for the 1024B Chemical Storage Part and unlocks after the previous quest in the list.[6]
  4. a quest in "?" asks for the 8192B Chemical Storage Part and unlocks after the previous quest in the list.[6]

The order is strictly linear. You work through the parts from smallest to largest, and each quest only unlocks once the one before it is done.[6]

Which Refined Storage - Mekanism Integration config options matter?

1 part

This mod has a small config file, and everything in it is about how much energy the chemical storage blocks use. The settings live in config/refinedstorage_mekanism_integration-common.toml. You only need one table to remember them, and the pack leaves every value at the mod default.[5]

Chemical storage block energy usage

There is one option per storage block tier, plus one for the creative block. Energy usage goes up with the tier:[5]

Each of these options accepts any value from 0 up to 9,223,372,036,854,775,807. That means you can set a block's usage to 0 if you ever want it to stop drawing energy.[5]

Tip: Because the pack hasn't changed any of these values, anything you read about this mod's default energy usage applies here too. If you edit one, you're changing the pack's behavior, not restoring a default.[5]

Unverified The config file doesn't say which energy unit these numbers use or how often the energy is drawn, so check in game before you plan your power setup around them.
