What is Genetics: Resequenced?
2 parts
Genetics: Resequenced lets you scrape mobs for their Genes, turn those into powers, and inject them into yourself or others. The mod advertises 80+ powers, and this pack includes version 1.14.0. Sheep, for example, carry the Wooly Gene, which lets you be sheared for wool once you have it.[1][2][3]
It's a great fit if you want permanent perks like flight, faster mining or keeping your inventory on death. Most Genes work on both players and mobs, so your pets can get powerful too. Some Genes are player-only, and each Gene's page in the in-game book tells you which. Heads up: EMI is the only recipe viewer the mod supports.[1][3][4][5]
How the process works
Getting a Gene takes several machine steps, and the machines run on FE. Here is the short version.[6][7]
- Use the Scraper on a mob to collect Organic Matter tagged with that mob's type.[6]
- Run it through the Cell Analyzer to get a Cell, then through the DNA Extractor to get a DNA Helix carrying an unknown Gene.[6][7][8]
- Reveal the Gene in the DNA Decryptor. Mobs with several Genes give a weighted random pick.[6][9]
- Infuse the decrypted helix into a Plasmid at the Plasmid Infuser.[6][10]
- Take some of your own blood with a Syringe and clean it in the Blood Purifier. Then combine it with the finished plasmid in the Plasmid Injector and inject yourself.[6][11][12]
Where it fits in the pack
The pack has a dedicated genetics quest chapter that follows this same order. It starts at "Welcome to Genetics: Resequenced!" quest with the Scraper, then branches into Organic Matter ("Organic Matter" quest), the Syringe ("Syringes" quest) and the Incubator ("Incubator" quest).[13]
Genetically Modified Cells ("Genetically Modified Cell" quest) unlock only after both the DNA Extractor and the Advanced Incubator. That's because low-temperature mode in the Advanced Incubator is the only way to make them.[13][14]
Once you reach the Plasmid Infuser ("Plasmid Infuser" quest), the chapter opens up the Anti-Plasmid, the Anti-Field Orb with the Anti-Field Block, and the Gene Checker.[13]
How do you get started with Genetics: Resequenced?
5 parts
Genetics: Resequenced is all about scraping mobs for their Genes and turning them into powers you can inject into yourself. It's a long chain of machines, but this pack gives you a quest chapter that follows the same order, so you can tick things off as you go.[1][13]
Step 1: Get Organic Matter
Everything starts with the Scraper. Use it on a mob to collect Organic Matter. That Organic Matter remembers which entity it came from, and that decides which Genes you can eventually get. The Scraper is the first quest in the genetics chapter, starting with "Welcome to Genetics: Resequenced!" quest and followed by "Organic Matter" quest.[6][13][15]
Step 2: Turn it into Cells and DNA
The Cell Analyzer uses FE to convert Organic Matter into Cells, which keep the same entity type. In the pack's quests, this is "Cell Analyzer" quest.[6][7][13]

Next, the DNA Extractor converts Cells into encrypted DNA Helix items. You can find it in the pack's quests at "DNA Extractor" quest.[8][13]

An encrypted Helix doesn't tell you its Gene yet. Run it through the DNA Decryptor to find out. The Gene is a weighted pick based on the mob it came from, so some Genes are more common than others. Some Helices also come out as Basic, which carry no Gene but are still useful for Plasmids.[6][9][16]

Step 3: Fill a Plasmid
The Plasmid Infuser uses FE to infuse a decrypted DNA Helix into an empty Plasmid. Put the empty Plasmid in the right slot and the Helix in the left slot. A Basic Gene can't be the first one you infuse into a Plasmid.[10][17]

Step 4: Inject yourself
Craft a Syringe and use it to draw some of your own blood. Then pass the Syringe through a Blood Purifier to decontaminate it.[6][11]

Finally, the Plasmid Injector uses FE to inject finished Plasmids into the Syringe. The Syringe must be full of uncontaminated blood, and you can put as many Plasmids into it as you like. Inject the blood back into yourself to gain all the Genes at once.[6][12]
Useful extras
- The Gene Checker lists the Genes of the entity you're looking at, or your own Genes if you aren't looking at one.[18]
- The Overclocker goes into most of the mod's machines to massively speed them up. Each one doubles the speed but raises the power draw by a quarter.[19]
- The Incubator works like a faster Brewing Stand that costs FE instead of Blaze Powder. Its upgrade, the Advanced Incubator, is needed for Genetically Modified Cells.[14][20]
The machines run on FE. The mod's guide includes a Coal Generator that burns furnace fuel for power, but this pack's value for its output isn't confirmed in the sources I have.[7][21]
How does Genetics: Resequenced work?
9 parts
Genetics: Resequenced is a chain of small machines that use FE. This section covers how each stage works, how to speed things up, and what the sources say about power. Hunting a specific Gene is covered elsewhere.[7][8][9][10][11][12]
The machine chain
Getting a Gene into your body takes one pass through the whole line. Each step needs the output of the one before it.[6]
- Right-click a mob with the Scraper to get Organic Matter. The Organic Matter carries the entity's type, which decides which Genes you can get. The hit counts as an attack and angers neutral mobs, unless the Scraper has the Delicate Touch enchantment.[6][22]
- Run the Organic Matter through the Cell Analyzer to make a Cell. It keeps the entity type.[6][7]
- Run the Cell through the DNA Extractor to get an encrypted DNA Helix.[6][8]
- Run the Helix through the DNA Decryptor to reveal its Gene.[6][9]
- Infuse decrypted Helices into a Plasmid with the Plasmid Infuser.[6][10]
- Use a Syringe to take some of your own blood, then clean it in the Blood Purifier.[6][11][23][24]
- Combine the clean blood and the finished Plasmid in the Plasmid Injector, then inject the blood back into yourself.[6][12]
DNA Decryptor behaviour
Each decryption picks a Gene based on the entity the Helix came from. The pick is weighted, so some Genes are more common than others, and it is made at the start of the process. Helices can also come out Basic, meaning they carry no Gene. They are still useful for Plasmids.[6][9][16]
Plasmid Infuser and Injector
In the Plasmid Infuser, put an empty Plasmid in the right slot and a DNA Helix in the left slot. The Helix is used up and sets the Plasmid's Gene to match. A Plasmid is complete once it reaches the Gene Points its Gene requires, and more advanced Genes cost more.[10][17]
- A Basic Gene is worth 1 point.[10]
- A Gene matching the Plasmid's own type is worth 2 points.[10]
- A Basic Gene can't be the first one infused into a Plasmid.[10]
The Plasmid Injector only takes completed Plasmids. You can inject more than one Plasmid into a single Syringe, but the Syringe must be full of uncontaminated blood. A freshly drawn sample is contaminated until the Blood Purifier cleans it. Some Genes require other Genes before they can be injected, and injecting without them has dire consequences.[6][12][23]
To give Genes to a mob instead of yourself, use the Metal Syringe, which targets others. Not every Gene can be given to mobs, so check each Gene's page.[3][23]

Incubators and brewing
The Incubator works like a Brewing Stand but runs at twice the speed. It uses FE instead of Blaze Powder. The guide suggests it for Potion of Cell Growth recipes, and Viral Agents recipes can be brewed in a Brewing Stand or either Incubator.[20][25][26]
Brewing a Cell into Organic Substrate replaces the Substrate with a copy of that Cell. A brew holds 3 potions, so you can triple a Cell this way. Substrate is also the base for Potions of Cell Growth.[25]
Advanced Incubator
The Advanced Incubator is an upgrade to the Incubator and still acts as a Brewing Stand. It adds a temperature setting, and you click the coil on the left of the GUI to toggle between low and high. By default low temperature is 120 times slower, so a single brew takes a full 20 minutes without Overclockers.[14]
Low temperature is the only way to make Genetically Modified Cells, which are guaranteed to carry a specific Gene. Each GM Cell has its own recipe with a chance of failure. The guide's example has a 30% chance of success by default. Each Overclocker lowers that chance by 10%. You can put Chorus Fruit in the top right slot to raise it, and by default each one adds 10%. The machine uses as many Chorus Fruit as it takes to reach 100%.[14][27]

Overclockers
The Overclocker goes into most of the mod's machines. Each one doubles the machine's speed and raises its power draw by a quarter. A machine can hold up to 8.[19]
Power
The Cell Analyzer, DNA Extractor, DNA Decryptor, Plasmid Infuser, Plasmid Injector and Blood Purifier all use FE. The mod also has a Coal Generator that burns furnace fuel for FE. The in-game guide says it defaults to 6 FE/t, so 1 Coal gives 9,600 FE, and longer-burning fuels give more. When its energy storage is full it pauses the fuel burn until there is room again, so nothing is wasted.[7][8][9][10][11][12][21]
Anti-Field Block and Orb
The Anti-Field Block lets you temporarily disable the Item Attraction Field and XP Attraction Field Genes. It is active by default and can be disabled with a Redstone signal. While active, it disables those Fields within a spherical radius. In this pack that radius is 25 blocks, the same as the mod default, and it is set by antifieldBlockRadius.[28][29]
The Anti-Field Orb does the same job as an item, and you toggle it by right-clicking while holding it. Both Genes also switch off while you sneak.[30][31][32]

How do you progress through Genetics: Resequenced?
5 parts
Genetics: Resequenced has no tier ladder in this pack. Progression follows a single quest chain in the genetics chapter, and every step unlocks the next machine in the DNA pipeline. The quests are untitled, so I'll point to them by ID. The recipes below are the in-pack versions.[13][24]
Stage 1: Scraper, syringe and incubator
Everything starts with the Scraper in "Welcome to Genetics: Resequenced!" quest. Finishing it opens three branches at once: Organic Matter, syringes, and the incubator.[13]
- "Organic Matter" quest asks for Organic Matter, which is the raw material for the cell line.[13]
- "Syringes" quest asks for a Syringe and a Metal Syringe. The metal syringe is crafted from the basic one.[13][24]
- "Incubator" quest asks for the Incubator. It works like a faster Brewing Stand, running at twice the speed and costing FE instead of Blaze Powder. You can speed it up further with Overclockers.[13][20]

Stage 2: Cells and encrypted DNA
"Cell Analyzer" quest unlocks the Cell Analyzer and the Overclocker. The Cell Analyzer uses FE to turn Organic Matter into Cell items, and "Cell" quest asks you to obtain one.[7][13]

Next comes the DNA Extractor in "DNA Extractor" quest. It uses FE to convert Cells into encrypted DNA Helices. The pack's recipe for the extractor needs a Cell, so you must make Cells first.[8][13][24]

Stage 3: Advanced Incubator and decrypted DNA
The chain splits here, and the two branches meet again at the DNA Helix quest. On one side, "Advanced Incubator" quest asks for the Advanced Incubator, which is crafted from the Incubator. On the other, "DNA Decryptor" quest asks for the DNA Decryptor.[13][24]
Crafting Shaped

The Advanced Incubator matters because it is the only way to make Genetically Modified Cells. You have to run it in its low-temperature mode, which you toggle by clicking the coil on the left of the GUI. By default that mode is 120 times slower, so a single brew takes 20 minutes before Overclockers. Each GM Cell recipe has a chance of failure. The example in the in-game guide has a 30% default chance, and each Overclocker lowers it by 10%. Chorus Fruit in the top right slot raises it, by 10% each by default. These are the mod's defaults, and the sources don't show the pack changing them.[14]
"Genetically Modified Cell" quest asks for a Genetically Modified Cell, and it requires both the extractor quest and the Advanced Incubator quest. The Decryptor then uses FE to decrypt your Helices. Each decryption picks a Gene weighted by the entity the Helix came from. "DNA Helix" quest asks for the DNA Helix and needs both the Decryptor and the GM Cell quests.[9][13][14]

Stage 4: Plasmids and injection
With a Helix in hand, "Plasmid" quest asks for a Plasmid, and the pack's recipe turns a DNA Helix into one. After that, "Plasmid Infuser" quest asks for the Plasmid Infuser. It uses FE to infuse Helices into a Plasmid, with an empty Plasmid in the right slot and a Helix in the left. Each Gene needs a certain number of DNA Points to complete the Plasmid. Basic Genes are worth 1 point, Genes of the Plasmid's type are worth 2, and a Basic Gene can't be the first one infused.[10][13][24]

The final step into Genes is "Plasmid Injector" quest, the Plasmid Injector, which needs both the Blood Purifier quest and the Plasmid quest. The Injector uses FE to put completed Plasmids into a Syringe. The Syringe must be full of uncontaminated blood, and the Blood Purifier from "Blood Purifier" quest is what decontaminates it. You can inject as many Plasmids into one Syringe as you like.[11][12][13]

Stage 5: Extras after the Plasmid Infuser
Three optional quests unlock once you have the Plasmid Infuser:[13]
- "Anti-Plasmid" quest asks for the Anti-Plasmid, which is crafted from a DNA Helix.[13][24]
- "Anti-Field" quest asks for the Anti-Field Orb and the Anti-Field Block. The Block can temporarily disable the Item Attraction Field and XP Attraction Field Genes within a 25 block radius by default. It is active by default, and a Redstone signal turns it off. The Orb does the same job in item form.[13][28][31]
- "Gene Checker" quest asks for the Gene Checker.[13]

How does Genetics: Resequenced work with other mods?
2 parts
Genetics: Resequenced connects to other mods in this pack through two things: the DNA Helix and Organic Matter. The pack's own quests only cover Genetics items, so the cross-mod links all come from recipes.[13][24]
DNA Helix in the Bio-Neural Circuit
The Bio-Neural Circuit is a pack-added item, and there are two ways to make it. Both recipes need a DNA Helix, so your Genetics setup is part of the progression for this circuit. Both also use high-tier parts from other tech mods.[24]
The first route is an assembler recipe from Modern Industrialization, added by the pack:[24]
Assembler (modern_industrialization)
4× DNA Helix
64× Ultimate Control Circuit
10000× Fortron Fluid
16× Qubit
90× Molten Energite
16× Super AI Chip
Recipe id: ftb:bio_neural_circuit
The second is an Advanced AE reaction recipe, also added by the pack. It is filed under AE2 transforms and has "non_mi" in its id, so it looks like the route for when you skip Modern Industrialization.[24]
Reaction (advanced_ae)
4× Positron Matrix
4× DNA Helix
10000× Fortron Fluid
16× Super AI Chip
- 64× any ultimate circuit
- any energite ingot
Recipe id: ftb:ae2/transform/bio_neural_circuit_non_mi
The Genetics quest chapter has a quest for the DNA Helix that unlocks after the DNA Decryptor and Genetically Modified Cell quests. If you plan to make the circuit, start there.[13]
Organic Matter and the guide books
Organic Matter also shows up in two crafting recipes that make guide books from other mods. These are the mods' own recipes, not pack changes. One makes a Guide Book:[24]
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: geneticsresequenced:patchouli
The other makes a Modonomicon:[24]

Unverified These sources don't show which guide book belongs to which mod's in-game guide, or whether other pack mods use Genetics items in their quests. Check in game before relying on either.
Which FTB Skies 2 quests use Genetics: Resequenced?
1 part
In this pack the mod has a single quest chapter, called "genetics". Every quest in it is an item task: you get the named item, and the quest moves on. The quests have no titles in the pack files, so I refer to them by quest ID below. The order follows the dependencies between them.[13]
Quest order
- "Welcome to Genetics: Resequenced!" quest is the start of the chapter and asks for the Scraper. Everything else unlocks from it.[13]
- Three quests open up once that is done. "Organic Matter" quest asks for Organic Matter. "Syringes" quest lists both the Syringe and the Metal Syringe. "Incubator" quest asks for the Incubator.[13]
- The organic matter line continues with "Cell Analyzer" quest, which lists the Cell Analyzer and the Overclocker. Next is "Cell" quest for the Cell, then "DNA Extractor" quest for the DNA Extractor.[13]
- The syringe line leads to "Blood Purifier" quest, which asks for the Blood Purifier. The incubator line leads to "Advanced Incubator" quest, which asks for the Advanced Incubator.[13]
- "DNA Decryptor" quest asks for the DNA Decryptor and unlocks after the DNA extractor quest. "Genetically Modified Cell" quest asks for the Genetically Modified Cell. It needs both the DNA extractor quest and the advanced incubator quest, so two of the branches meet here.[13]
- "DNA Helix" quest asks for the DNA Helix. It requires both the DNA decryptor quest and the genetically modified cell quest.[13]
- "Plasmid" quest asks for the Plasmid and follows the DNA helix quest.[13]
- "Plasmid Injector" quest asks for the Plasmid Injector. It requires the plasmid quest and the blood purifier quest, so it is where the syringe line rejoins the main path.[13]
- "Plasmid Infuser" quest asks for the Plasmid Infuser and also follows the plasmid quest.[13]
- Three final quests unlock after the plasmid infuser. "Anti-Plasmid" quest asks for the Anti-Plasmid. "Anti-Field" quest lists the Anti-Field Orb and the Anti-Field Block. "Gene Checker" quest asks for the Gene Checker.[13]
Unverified The pack files I have don't show quest rewards or descriptions for this chapter, so I can't say what completing these quests gives you.
Which Genetics: Resequenced config options matter?
4 parts
Most of what you'll want to tweak lives in the server config. Every numeric value in it matches the mod default, so this pack hasn't rebalanced any Genetics: Resequenced numbers.[29]
Gene survival and negative genes
- keepGenesOnDeath is set to true in this pack, so you keep your genes when you die.[29]
- genes.disableGivingPlayersNegativeGenes is false, so players can still be given negative genes. Set it to true to prevent that.[29]
Gene tuning
These are the gene options you're most likely to adjust, with the values this pack uses (all equal to the mod default).[29]
- genes.itemMagnetRadius is 8 blocks and genes.itemMagnetCooldown is 10 ticks. The XP Magnet matches with genes.xpMagnetRadius at 8 blocks and genes.xpMagnetCooldown at 10 ticks.[29]
- antifieldBlockRadius is 25 blocks. That is how far the Antifield Block stops the Item and XP Magnet genes from working.[29]
- genes.teleportDistance is 10 blocks at most, with a genes.teleportCooldown of 20 ticks.[29]
- genes.mobSightRadius is 32 blocks for Mob Sight detection.[29]
- Thorns triggers with a genes.thornsChance of 0.15 and deals genes.thornsDamage of 1.5 back to the attacker. Claws has a genes.clawsBaseChance of 0.33 and deals genes.clawsDamage of 8.[29]
- genes.dragonHealthCrystalMaxDamage is 1,000, the damage the Dragon Health Crystal can take before it breaks.[29]
Machines
- The Coal Generator stores up to 100,000 energy (machines.coalGeneratorEnergyCapacity), generates 6 per tick (machines.coalGeneratorEnergyPerTick) and transfers up to 256 per tick (machines.coalGeneratorEnergyTransferRate).[29]
- machines.incubatorTicksPerBrew is 200 ticks per potion, compared to 400 ticks for a vanilla brewing stand.[29]
- machines.incubatorLowTempTickFactor is 120, so the Advanced Incubator runs 120 times slower at low temperature. That takes a full Minecraft day, not counting Overclockers.[29]
- Each Overclocker lowers GMO recipe success by 0.1 (machines.incubatorOverclockerChanceDecrease), and each Chorus Fruit raises it by 0.1 (machines.incubatorChorusFruitChanceIncrease).[29]
Client options
On the client side, the Cringe gene's screen shake is turned off: cringe.doesCringeShake is false. The shake amplitude and speed options below only matter if you turn it on.[33]
- cringe.cringeShakeAmplitude is 0.03, the same as the mod default.[33]
- cringe.cringeShakeSpeed is 5, the same as the mod default.[33]
- cringe.disableCringeLangChange is false, so getting Cringe still switches your language to LOLCAT, which triggers a resource reload that may cause lag.[33]
- woolyRemovesCape is true, so shearing a player with the Wooly gene also removes their cape.[33]
- disableParrotNarrator is false, so the narrator still speaks when a player with the Parrot gene talks.[33]
- itemMagnetBlacklistTooltip is true, so item tooltips show when an item is on the Item Magnet's blacklist.[33]
What changed in Genetics: Resequenced between versions?
2 parts
FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 ships Genetics: Resequenced 1.14.0. The mod has been in the pack since FTB Skies 2 1.0.1 or earlier, so you've had it for a long time. Below are the changes I can confirm from the mod's own changelogs.[2]
1.6.0
- New Lava Proof Gene, which makes you immune to direct Lava damage.[34]
- The Dragon Health Crystal no longer uses durability. It has its own separate data component instead.[34]
- The Metal Syringe now increases your entity interaction range attribute by 3 blocks.[34]
- Baby mobs inherit their parents' Genes: a 100% chance if both parents have the Gene, and 50% if only one does.[34]
- The Gene Checker now shows which Genes the target can provide, as well as which it has.[34]
- Immunity Genes now use isInvulnerableTo instead of setting the damage amount to 0, so you no longer flinch from those damages.[34]
- Fixed Antigenes not being removed from Syringes when used, and fixed the Black Death recipe.[34]
1.5.4
- Fixed Genes desyncing on the client when you change dimensions or respawn.[35]
- Incubators work as Brewing Stands again.[35]
- Substrate Cell Duplication recipes no longer consume the input Cell.[35]
- Fixed Set/Unset Anti-Plasmid recipes and Virus recipes not working.[35]
- Mod commands can now start with /geneticsresequenced, /genetics or /gr.[35]
- The command /gr clearBioluminescenceBlocks was renamed to /gr clearBioGlow.[35]
- The Patchouli book was updated to show changes to Flight's default required Genes.[35]
For the releases between 1.3.1 and 1.5.3, the mod's changelog points you to its CurseForge files page.[35]
Unverified The details of the releases from 1.8.2 up to 1.14.0, and any pack changelog entries for this mod, could not be confirmed from the available sources.
