What is Waystones?
2 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
Waystones adds teleportation you can build into your base, your server hub or your adventure map. You place waystone blocks, activate them, and from then on you can return to them. You can hop from one waystone to another, or you can activate them with a Warp Scroll or a rechargeable Warp Stone.[1]
It works in Survival, in Adventure Maps and on Multiplayer Servers, where it can stand in for /warp and /home commands. If you play with friends, waystones can be made global so everyone can use them, which suits a community hub.[1]
What you get
- Craftable Waystones, Warp Plates and Warp Scrolls.[1]
- Teleporting from one waystone to another.[1]
- Global Waystones for community hubs or sharing with friends.[1]
- An optional teleport button in your inventory. It is configurable and lets you warp without any extra items.[1]
- A waystone structure that can generate in villages.[1]
In this pack
The pack ships Waystones 21.1.41, the NeoForge build for Minecraft 1.21.1. It has been included since an early pack release (2.25 or earlier).[2]
The mod needs Balm installed alongside it. Its page says Shogi is only required on Minecraft 26.1 and above, so it does not apply to this 1.21.1 build.[1][2]
Unverified Where Waystones fits in the pack's progression is not confirmed. No quests or ATM Star path steps involving the mod were found, and there is no in-jar guidebook. Treat it as a standalone travel tool you can pick up whenever you like.
How do you get started with Waystones?
5 parts
Waystones lets you teleport between waystone blocks once you have activated them. You can warp with a Warp Scroll, with a rechargeable Warp Stone, or by hopping from an existing waystone to another one. Here is the order I would tackle it in.[1]
Find and activate a waystone
You do not need to craft anything to start. In this pack, wild waystones generate roughly every 25 chunks, and they are allowed in the Overworld, the Nether and the End. Some villages get them too, and their look depends on the biome they generate in. Touch one and you get an Activated Waystone message in chat. That waystone is now a destination you can return to.[3][4]
Newly placed or found waystones use the ACTIVATION visibility by default in this pack, and rules.allowEveryoneToManageGlobalWaystones is set to false.[3]
Craft your own Waystone
Once you have a feel for it, you can make a Waystone yourself and place it wherever you want a destination.[1][5]

Make scrolls
Scrolls are the starting point for warping. A scroll that is not bound tells you it is not bound to a waystone, and the Unbound Scroll is the Unbound Scroll you craft first.[4][5]

Warp Plates for later
The Warp Plate works differently. A plate has to be bound to another warp plate before it does anything, and the game tells you when one is not bound yet. It also mentions a shard inside the plate, which is where the Dormant Shard comes in.[4][5]

How does Waystones work?
8 parts
Waystones has no power, fluids or multiblocks to set up. Everything revolves around teleporting between blocks you have activated, and the rules for what that costs. Here is how it works in this pack.[1][3]
Activating and travelling
A waystone is something you can return to once you have activated it. You can activate one with a Warp Scroll or a rechargeable Warp Stone, or by using an existing waystone to hop to another. Activating one tells you in chat, with the message "Activated Waystone" and its name.[1][4]
Opening a waystone shows a "Select your destination" screen. You can sort the list by distance, by name or manually. Manual order lets you drag entries, double-click to send one to the top, or shift-double-click to send one to the bottom. You can also hide waystones, mark favorites, give them an alias and put them in groups from the Personal Settings and Manage screens.[4]
To delete an entry you hold shift and click it. Deleting a global waystone removes it for everyone, and the screen warns you about that.[4]
Who can see a waystone
Each waystone has a visibility setting. The options shown in the edit screen are Visible upon Activation, Visible to Team, Visible to Everyone, Visible to matching Sharestones, and Teleports via Attuned Shard.[4]
In this pack, rules.defaultVisibility is set to ACTIVATION, so a waystone only shows up for you after you have activated it. The option also accepts TEAM and GLOBAL. rules.allowEveryoneToManageGlobalWaystones is false, so not everyone can manage global waystones.[3]
Sharestones work differently. Their tooltips say you teleport to another sharestone of the same type, for example any other Amethyst Sharestone. If none match, the screen says there are no matching Sharestones to teleport to.[4]

What a teleport costs
The pack leaves rules.enableXpCosts, rules.enableDurability and rules.enableCooldowns all on. The detailed rules live in rules.warpRequirements, written in Shogi format, with their numbers in rules.warpSettings.[3]
- XP applies when the source is a waystone or a warp stone, unless the target is a Fleeting Memorial.[3]
- The XP cost is the distance multiplied by 0.01 per block, with a minimum of 0 and a maximum of 27.[3]
- Travelling between dimensions costs a flat 27 instead, and it is still clamped to the same maximum.[3]
- Using a warp stone damages it by 80.[3]
- The inventory button has a cooldown of 300s.[3]
If you cannot pay, the game tells you. You may get a not enough experience message, or a requirements message that names the failed one. Other failure messages cover moving too far from the waystone, no longer holding the item, a destination outside the world bounds, and warping between worlds that is not allowed.[4]
Warp modifiers are enabled in the pack through rules.enableModifiers. They are items that apply status effects when you teleport. The waystone settings screen has a Manage Modifiers button and shows how many modifiers are active.[3][4]
Scrolls, stones and plates
The mod has Warp Scrolls, Bound Scrolls, Return Scrolls, Portal Scrolls and a Warp Stone, plus coloured Warp Stones such as Copper Warp Stone, Diamond Warp Stone and Emerald Warp Stone. A scroll that is not bound to a waystone tells you so. Binding one confirms with "Scroll bound" and the waystone name.[4]
Crafting Shaped
| any gold nugget | Feather | any gold nugget |
| Paper | Paper | Paper |
Recipe id: waystones:blank_scroll
This recipe makes 3 Unbound Scrolls at a time.
Warp plates link to each other instead. A plate that is not bound yet says it is not bound to another warp plate. If the shard inside loses its attunement, the plate says so. A Warp Portal closes if its target is destroyed, and it will not open without enough space.[4]

Mobs that travel with you
- rules.transportLeashed is ENABLED, so leashed mobs come with you. The other values are SAME_DIMENSION and DISABLED.[3]
- rules.transportPets is DISABLED, so nearby pets stay behind.[3]
- rules.entityDenyList holds minecraft:wither, so it cannot be teleported as a pet, a leashed mob or on a warp plate.[3]
Wild waystones and villages
worldGen.chunksBetweenWildWaystones is 25, which is the approximate chunk distance between wild waystones. Setting it to 0 turns generation off. The allow list in worldGen.wildWaystonesDimensionAllowList contains the Overworld, the End and the Nether.[3]
worldGen.wildWaystoneStyle is BIOME, so the style of a wild waystone depends on where it generates. The biome lists in the mod show the following.[3]
- Black Waystones: Nether wastes, soul sand valley, crimson forest, warped forest and basalt deltas.[6]
- Deepslate Waystones: the deep dark.[7]
- Ender Waystones: the End and its highlands, midlands, small islands and barrens.[8]
- Mossy Waystones: swamp, mangrove swamp, mushroom fields, bamboo jungle, jungle and sparse jungle.[9]
- Sandy Waystones: desert.[10]
- The regular Waystone: a long list of other biomes, including plains, forests, taiga, savanna, badlands, mountains, rivers, beaches and oceans.[11]
- Muddy, Prismarine, Purpur and Nether (red nether bricks) Waystones: their biome lists in the mod are empty.[12][13][14][15]
Villages can also include a waystone. worldGen.spawnInVillages is REGULAR in the pack, and it only applies to vanilla or supported villages. The mod adds waystone pieces to desert, plains, savanna, snowy and taiga village pools.[3][16][17][18][19][20]
New waystones get names from worldGen.nameGenerationTemplate, which is "{MrPork}" here. worldGen.nameGenerationMode is PRESET_FIRST, and the preset list in worldGen.nameGenerationPresets is empty.[3]
Map integrations and the inventory button
The pack enables the BlueMap, Dynmap and JourneyMap integrations. BlueMap marks waystones and sharestones, but not undiscovered waystones. JourneyMap creates a waypoint for each activated waystone. The inventory button option accepts none, nearest, any or a specific waystone name, and the pack's file leaves it as an empty value.[3]
A pack detail: the Wayfarer stage
The pack's script grants the stage ftb:wayfarer_wares when your inventory holds a Warp Stone, Warp Scroll, Return Scroll or Bound Scroll. A Nature's Compass (Nature's Compass), an Explorer's Compass (Explorer's Compass) or a paraglider (Paragliders) works too.[21]
Unverified Which trades use that stage is set in the pack's KubeJS trade scripts under ftb_events, which the sources here do not show.
How do you progress through Waystones?
4 parts
The recipe dump shows the same idea repeated across several families: one base block or item, then material variants of it. Here is how each family breaks down in this pack.[5]
Waystone variants
The base waystone is the Waystone. The pack also has crafting recipes for Mossy Waystone, Sandy Waystone, Muddy Waystone, Black Waystone, Deepslate Waystone, Prismarine Waystone, Purpur Waystone, Nether Waystone and Ender Waystone.[5]

The Mossy Waystone has this shapeless recipe from vines, plus one from moss blocks and one shaped recipe.
The mod's data also has biome tags for the Black Waystone and the Deepslate Waystone. The Black Waystone's tag lists nether wastes, soul sand valley, crimson forest, warped forest and basalt deltas. The Deepslate Waystone's tag lists the deep dark only.[6][7]
Portstones, sharestones and warp stones
Beyond plain waystones, the pack has a plain Portstone and a plain Warp Stone. Each also comes in copper, lapis, redstone, gold, amethyst, prismarine, emerald and diamond versions. Sharestones come in the same materials, but the recipe dump has no plain sharestone. The dump does not rank these materials, so don't treat the list order as a tier order.[5]

Picking blocks back up
I checked the loot tables for the Waystone, the Black Waystone, and the Amethyst and Copper Portstones and Sharestones, and they all work the same way. Only the lower half of the block drops the item. With a Silk Touch tool, the drop also copies the block entity's stored data.[22][23][24][25][26][27]
Which Waystones config options matter?
4 parts
Almost everything you will want to tweak in Waystones lives in one file, config/waystones-common.toml. Below are the values this pack ships with, grouped by what they affect. The sources here do not show the mod's own defaults, so I only state what the pack sets.[3]
Costs and cooldowns
- rules.enableXpCosts, rules.enableCooldowns, rules.enableDurability and rules.enableModifiers are all true in this pack. The first three are master switches for XP costs, cooldowns and durability costs, and the last one enables warp modifier items that apply status effects on teleports.[3]
- rules.warpSettings sets the XP cost to 0.01 per block of distance, with a minimum of 0, a maximum of 27 and an interdimensional cost of 27.[3]
- rules.warpRequirements applies the XP cost when the source is a waystone or warp stone and the target is not a fleeting memorial. The cost is clamped between 0 and the maximum, and using a warp stone damages the item by 80.[3]
- Using the inventory button also has a cooldown, and the pack sets it to '300s' in the same warp settings.[3]
Who and what can teleport
- rules.defaultVisibility is ACTIVATION, so newly placed or found waystones are not made team or global by default. The allowed values are ACTIVATION, TEAM and GLOBAL.[3]
- rules.allowEveryoneToManageGlobalWaystones is false.[3]
- rules.transportPets is DISABLED, so your pets do not come along. rules.transportLeashed is ENABLED, so leashed mobs do teleport with you.[3]
- rules.entityDenyList contains only minecraft:wither, so it cannot be teleported as a pet, leashed, or on warp plates.[3]
- inventoryButton.inventoryButton is an empty string in the pack's file. The option's comment describes none, nearest, any, or a specific waystone name as the settings. The button sits at X 58 (inventoryButton.inventoryButtonX) and Y 60 (inventoryButton.inventoryButtonY) in the inventory.[3]
World generation
- worldGen.chunksBetweenWildWaystones is 25, the approximate chunk distance between wild waystones. Setting it to 0 disables generation.[3]
- worldGen.wildWaystonesDimensionAllowList lists the overworld, the Nether and the End, so wild waystones can appear in all of them.[3]
- worldGen.spawnInVillages is REGULAR, so waystones spawn in some villages.[3]
- worldGen.wildWaystoneStyle is BIOME, so a wild waystone's look depends on the biome it generates in.[3]
- Names use worldGen.nameGenerationMode set to PRESET_FIRST, with an empty worldGen.nameGenerationPresets list and the template {MrPork} in worldGen.nameGenerationTemplate, which is the default name generator.[3]
Map integrations
- BlueMap: blueMap.enabled is true. Waystones and sharestones get markers, but blueMap.includeUndiscoveredWaystones is false, so undiscovered waystones do not.[3]
- Dynmap: dynmap.enabled is true.[3]
- JourneyMap: journeyMap.enabled is true, and journeyMap.preferJourneyMapIntegrationMod is also true, so waypoints are only created if the mod JourneyMap Integration is not installed.[3]
What changed in Waystones between versions?
1 part
FTB Evolution 2 1.1.0 ships Waystones version 26.1.2.16. The mod has been in the pack since 1.0.2 or earlier, so you may have used it in earlier releases too.[28]
Fixes in Waystones 26.1.2.16
This is the version you get in 1.1.0. Its changelog lists only bug fixes, and these are the ones that matter for how you set up and browse waystones:[28][29]
- Setting a waystone to activation visibility works again when the default visibility is set to global.[29]
- Silk-touched waystones no longer show up in the global or team index.[29]
- Unseen, unnamed waystones no longer show up when the default visibility is global.[29]
- Animations no longer become choppy as time passes.[29]
Unverified The sources here include no pack changelog entries for Waystones, so what changed for this mod between individual FTB Evolution 2 releases is not shown. Check the pack's own changelogs for that.
