What is Waystones?
2 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
Waystones adds teleportation you can build into your base, your server hub or your adventure map. You place waystone blocks, activate them, and from then on you can return to them. You can hop from one waystone to another, or you can activate them with a Warp Scroll or a rechargeable Warp Stone.[1]
It works in Survival, in Adventure Maps and on Multiplayer Servers, where it can stand in for /warp and /home commands. If you play with friends, waystones can be made global so everyone can use them, which suits a community hub.[1]
What you get
- Craftable Waystones, Warp Plates and Warp Scrolls.[1]
- Teleporting from one waystone to another.[1]
- Global Waystones for community hubs or sharing with friends.[1]
- An optional teleport button in your inventory. It is configurable and lets you warp without any extra items.[1]
- A waystone structure that can generate in villages.[1]
In this pack
The pack ships Waystones 21.1.41, the NeoForge build for Minecraft 1.21.1. It has been included since an early pack release (2.25 or earlier).[2]
The mod needs Balm installed alongside it. Its page says Shogi is only required on Minecraft 26.1 and above, so it does not apply to this 1.21.1 build.[1][2]
Unverified Where Waystones fits in the pack's progression is not confirmed. No quests or ATM Star path steps involving the mod were found, and there is no in-jar guidebook. Treat it as a standalone travel tool you can pick up whenever you like.
How do you get started with Waystones?
4 parts
Waystones lets you activate waystone blocks and then teleport back to them, using scrolls, a rechargeable Warp Stone, or by hopping from one waystone to another. Here is the order I'd go in on your first trip.[1]
First, make a Warp Stone
Start with the Warp Stone. The recipes for waystones, portstones and sharestones all use it as an ingredient, so you can't build any of those blocks without one. It is also the rechargeable travel item of the mod.[1][3]

Next, craft your first Waystone
Make a plain Waystone and put it down at your base so you have somewhere to return to. Other styles exist too, like the Sandy Waystone and the Black Waystone.[1][3]

Then, craft Warp Scrolls
Now you need a way to travel. One craft of the Warp Scroll recipe gives you 3 scrolls, which makes them a cheap way to get moving early on.[3]

Good to know early
- Teleport XP costs are switched off in the pack, so you don't need to save experience to travel (teleports.enableCosts).[5]
- Warp Stones lose durability when you use them, and teleport cooldowns are enabled.[5]
- Wild waystones generate roughly every 25 chunks in the Overworld, the Nether and the End, and some villages have one too. Their style depends on the biome, so you may find one before you craft your own.[5]
- Newly placed waystones use ACTIVATION visibility by default, and only the owner can edit a waystone.[4][5]
- Pets don't teleport with you in this pack, but leashed mobs do.[5]
How does Waystones work?
7 parts
Waystones runs on a simple loop: you activate a waystone, and from then on you can teleport back to it. You activate one with a Warp Scroll, with a rechargeable Warp Stone, or by using an existing waystone to hop over to another one. When it works, you get a chat message saying which waystone you activated.[1][4]
Who can see and edit a waystone
In this pack, general.defaultVisibility is ACTIVATION, so a waystone only shows up for you once you have activated it. The other allowed values are GLOBAL and TEAM. Set it to GLOBAL and newly placed or found waystones are global by default.[5]
Editing is locked down too. general.restrictedWaystones is set to PLAYER, which means only the owner of a waystone can edit it. general.allowEveryoneToManageGlobalWaystones is false, so global waystones are not open to everybody. That option is always true if the default visibility is GLOBAL. If you try to edit someone else's waystone, you get the message that only the owner may edit it.[4][5]
Sharestones add another layer. A waystone's settings include visibility options per sharestone colour, such as "Visible to Black Sharestones", and the selection screen tells you when there are no matching Sharestones to teleport to. There are colour variants like the Black Sharestone and Blue Sharestone.[4]
Using a teleport
Scrolls and the Warp Stone have a charge-up while you hold right-click. In this pack both general.scrollUseTime and general.warpStoneUseTime are 32 ticks. If you stop holding the item, or move too far from the waystone you used, the teleport is cancelled.[4][5]
Warp Plates work differently: you stand on one for general.warpPlateUseTime ticks, which is 15 in this pack. After arriving, an entity has to be off the target plate for general.warpPlateCooldownTime ticks (20 here) before it can teleport from that plate again. A plate has to be bound to another plate first, and the game tells you if the shard inside has lost its attunement.[4][5]
There is also a Warp Portal block. It needs free space to open, and it closes if its target is destroyed.[4]
The destination screen can sort waystones by distance, by name or manually. From there you can manage your list: hide waystones, drag them to reorder (double-click moves one to the top), and sort them into groups with their own label colour and icon. Personal settings let you set an alias and mark a favourite.[4]
The inventory button
The inventory button can be set to NONE, NEAREST (teleport to the nearest waystone), ANY (open the selection menu) or a specific waystone name. The pack sets inventoryButton.inventoryButton to an empty string.[5]
The button's horizontal position in the inventory, inventoryButton.inventoryButtonX, is 58. Its vertical position, inventoryButton.inventoryButtonY, is 60.[5]
In the creative menu, inventoryButton.creativeInventoryButtonX is 88. inventoryButton.creativeInventoryButtonY is 33.[5]
Costs, cooldowns and wear
- XP costs are switched off: teleports.enableCosts is false. The pack still defines teleports.warpRequirements rules (a distance-based cost at 0.01 per unit, a flat 27 for interdimensional trips, a maximum of 27, and free trips from warp plates, to global waystones and to Fleeting Memorials), but with costs disabled they do not charge you.[5]
- Cooldowns are on: teleports.enableCooldowns is true.[5]
- One of the teleports.warpRequirements rules adds a cooldown of 300 to teleports started from the inventory button.[5]
- Warp Stones wear out: teleports.enableDurability is true, so they lose durability.[5]
- Warp modifiers are enabled: teleports.enableModifiers is true. These items apply status effects on teleports and are managed from a waystone's "Manage Modifiers" screen.[4][5]
Pets, leashed mobs and blocked entities
Leashed mobs come with you (teleports.transportLeashed is ENABLED), but pets stay behind because teleports.transportPets is DISABLED. The wither is on teleports.entityDenyList, so it cannot be teleported as a pet, leashed, or on a warp plate.[5]
Key items

Wild waystones and map markers
Wild waystones generate roughly every worldGen.chunksBetweenWildWaystones chunks (25 in this pack), and setting it to 0 disables generation. Villages get them at the REGULAR rate. The style depends on the biome, and spawning is allowed in the Overworld, the Nether and the End. New waystones are named using the default name generator, with PRESET_FIRST mode and an empty preset list.[5]
For maps, BlueMap markers are on for waystones and sharestones but off for undiscovered waystones. Dynmap markers are on. JourneyMap waypoints are created for each activated waystone, and the JourneyMap Integration mod is preferred if you have it installed.[5]
How do you progress through Waystones?
6 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
Unverified The sources here do not show any quest involving Waystones, so there is no quest-guided order to follow. The path below follows the in-pack crafting recipes instead.
Waystones progression in this pack is built entirely out of crafting. Almost everything hangs off one item, Warp Stone, so that is where you start.[6]
First: Warp Stone and Warp Dust
Warp Stone is used in the main recipe of every waystone, portstone and sharestone in this pack. It has its own crafting recipe, so you can make it before anything else.[6]
Crafting Shaped

Recipe id: waystones:warp_stone
The Warp Stone recipe is a shaped crafting recipe from the mod.
Warp Dust has its own shapeless recipe. You will want it later for the Dormant Shard and the Warp Plate.[6]
Warp Dust is shapeless, so the ingredients can go anywhere in the grid.
Next: The Waystone and its variants
With a Warp Stone in hand, you can craft the basic Waystone.[6]
Crafting Shaped

The pack also has themed variants: Mossy Waystone, Sandy Waystone, Deepslate Waystone, Black Waystone, Muddy Waystone, Nether Waystone, Ender Waystone, Prismarine Waystone and Purpur Waystone. Each one has its own shaped recipe that swaps in a different building block alongside a Warp Stone.[6]
The Mossy Waystone is the odd one out. Besides its own shaped recipe, it has extra shapeless recipes that start from a plain Waystone.[6]
Mossy Waystone made from a plain Waystone, first variant.
Mossy Waystone made from a plain Waystone, second variant.
Then: Portstones and Sharestones
Next come the dyed stones. Portstones, like the plain Portstone, and sharestones, like Red Sharestone, each come in a range of dye colors. Within each family the recipes are the same and only the dye changes.[6]

Which Waystones config options matter?
6 parts
Everything below comes straight from the pack's Waystones config file, so these are the values you will actually get in game. The sources I have don't show the mod's own defaults, so I can't tell you which of these the pack changed.[5]
Teleport costs and cooldowns
- teleports.enableCosts is false, which the config describes as disabling all XP costs. Teleporting doesn't charge you XP in this pack.[5]
- teleports.enableCooldowns is true, so cooldowns are active. The pack's teleports.warpRequirements list includes a cooldown value of 300 for teleports started from the inventory button.[5]
- The same warpRequirements list also holds XP rules: a distance-scaled cost of 0.01 for same-dimension trips, a flat 27 for interdimensional trips, a cap of 27, and a cost of 0 for warp plates, global waystones and fleeting memorials. They only come into play if you turn costs on.[5]
- teleports.enableDurability is true, so warp stones lose durability when used. teleports.enableModifiers is also true, so warp modifier items can apply status effects on teleports.[5]
Use times
general.scrollUseTime and general.warpStoneUseTime are both 32 ticks, which is the charge-up while you hold right-click. A warp plate takes 15 ticks of standing on it (general.warpPlateUseTime). general.warpPlateCooldownTime is 20 ticks, the time an entity must be off a target warp plate before it can teleport from that plate again.[5]
Visibility and ownership
general.defaultVisibility is ACTIVATION, so newly placed or found waystones are not global by default. general.allowEveryoneToManageGlobalWaystones is false. general.restrictedWaystones is set to PLAYER, which means only the owner of a player-placed waystone can edit it.[5]
Taking mobs along
teleports.transportPets is DISABLED, so your pets stay behind. teleports.transportLeashed is ENABLED, so leashed mobs do come with you. The teleports.entityDenyList contains minecraft:wither, which can't be teleported.[5]
Finding waystones in the world
- worldGen.chunksBetweenWildWaystones is 25, the approximate chunk distance between wild waystones.[5]
- worldGen.wildWaystonesDimensionAllowList lists the Overworld, the Nether and the End.[5]
- worldGen.wildWaystoneStyle is BIOME, so a wild waystone's look depends on the biome it generates in.[5]
- worldGen.spawnInVillages is REGULAR, so waystones spawn in some villages.[5]
- Names use PRESET_FIRST mode with an empty preset list and the {MrPork} template. See worldGen.nameGenerationMode, worldGen.nameGenerationPresets and worldGen.nameGenerationTemplate.[5]
Map integrations
blueMap.enabled is true, and BlueMap markers cover waystones and sharestones but not undiscovered waystones (blueMap.includeUndiscoveredWaystones is false). compatibility.dynmap and compatibility.journeyMap are both true, and compatibility.preferJourneyMapIntegrationMod is true as well. That means JourneyMap waypoints are only created if the JourneyMap Integration mod is not installed.[5]
Unverified inventoryButton.inventoryButton is set to an empty string in this pack. The config only documents NONE, NEAREST, ANY or a waystone name, so what the empty value does in game is unconfirmed.
What changed in Waystones between versions?
5 parts
All the Mons 1.3.0 ships Waystones 21.1.42, and the mod has been in the pack since 0.3.0-beta or earlier. Below are the notable changes from the mod's own changelogs for the builds the sources cover, from 21.1.32 up to the one you're running.[7]
21.1.42 (the version in this pack)
- Added a button to hide waystones if they can't be deleted.[8]
- Fixed custom reach distance being ignored in distance validity checks.[8]
- Fixed warp modifiers not being applied to waystones.[8]
- Fixed a crash when rendering warp requirements that have no renderer.[8]
21.1.40
- Fixed waystones being wiped when an event handler throws during loading.[9]
- Fixed an integer overflow in distance comparison that gave wrong results and crashes for large distances.[9]
- Fixed a crash with the Dynmap integration if it runs before the server instance is captured.[9]
21.1.36
This build added new waystone variants: Red Nether Bricks, Purpur, Primsarine and Mud Bricks. It also added new warp requirement conditions: source_is_portal_scroll, target_is_warp_portal, target_is_fleeting_memorial and target_is_player. Dimension-specific group icon overrides are now supported too, and they are used automatically instead of the generic Dimension icon when available.[10]
- Fixed the Waystone Selection sort toggle choice not being saved.[10]
- Fixed the Waystone Selection, Manage Waystones and Manage Groups screens not growing to fill space on smaller GUI scales.[10]
- Fixed the scrollbar not being draggable by mouse, and drag to rearrange not working on the Manage Waystones and Manage Groups screens.[10]
- Fixed the GUI closing when you tried to return from the Personal Waystone Settings screen.[10]
- Fixed the source_is_*_sharestone condition checking the target instead of the source.[10]
- Fixed some dynamic inbuilt groups only showing up after a relog once they became available.[10]
- Improved Sable compatibility by making nearest waystone lookups use player-aware distance checks and warp plates use level-aware distance and bounds checks.[10]
Mod developers also got new API events in this build, such as BuildWaystoneSelectionMenuEvent for changing the list of waystones shown, and WaystoneTeleportEvent.Prepare and WaystoneTeleportEvent.Complete around teleports.[10]
21.1.34 and 21.1.33
- 21.1.34 fixed activation visibility incorrectly showing up on Sharestones.[11]
- 21.1.33 fixed distance being displayed wrongly in waystone selection and the /waystones list command.[12]
- 21.1.33 also added a has_structure/deepslate_waystone tag and generation logic for data packs. Waystones still won't generate in the Deep Dark, because the default placement modifier doesn't support it.[12]
- 21.1.33 fixed the waystones:waystone placement modifier only respecting dimension ceilings in the Nether.[12]
