Waystones is a mod in All the Mods 11 0.12.0-beta, where it is version 26.1.2.16. Teleport from waystone to waystone or craft magical scrolls to warp. (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

What is Waystones?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Waystones adds teleportation you can build into your base, your server hub or your adventure map. You place waystone blocks, activate them, and from then on you can return to them. You can hop from one waystone to another, or you can activate them with a Warp Scroll or a rechargeable Warp Stone.[1]

It works in Survival, in Adventure Maps and on Multiplayer Servers, where it can stand in for /warp and /home commands. If you play with friends, waystones can be made global so everyone can use them, which suits a community hub.[1]

What you get

  • Craftable Waystones, Warp Plates and Warp Scrolls.[1]
  • Teleporting from one waystone to another.[1]
  • Global Waystones for community hubs or sharing with friends.[1]
  • An optional teleport button in your inventory. It is configurable and lets you warp without any extra items.[1]
  • A waystone structure that can generate in villages.[1]

In this pack

The pack ships Waystones 21.1.41, the NeoForge build for Minecraft 1.21.1. It has been included since an early pack release (2.25 or earlier).[2]

The mod needs Balm installed alongside it. Its page says Shogi is only required on Minecraft 26.1 and above, so it does not apply to this 1.21.1 build.[1][2]

Unverified Where Waystones fits in the pack's progression is not confirmed. No quests or ATM Star path steps involving the mod were found, and there is no in-jar guidebook. Treat it as a standalone travel tool you can pick up whenever you like.

How do you get started with Waystones?

4 parts

Waystones is all about teleporting between points you've activated, and the first steps in this pack are short. You make a waystone, you pick a way to activate it and come back to it, then you choose the item that fits how you like to travel.[1]

Step one: make a Waystone

Start with the basic Waystone. It's the block you come back to once it has been activated, so everything else builds on it. The mod also has other styles, like the Mossy Waystone and the Deepslate Waystone, if you want yours to match your base.[1][3]

Tip: You don't have to craft your first waystone before you can use one. The mod adds a waystone structure to villages, so you may find one on your travels.[1]

Step two: get a way to activate and return

A waystone becomes something you can return to once it has been activated. You can activate it with a Warp Scroll, with a rechargeable Warp Stone, or by using an existing waystone to hop over to another one. That's why these two items are worth making early.[1]

The pack also has a recipe for the Return Scroll.[3]

Step three: bind scrolls to a waystone

If you want a scroll tied to one particular waystone, craft an Unbound Scroll. Its in-game tooltip says to use the scroll on a waystone to bind it.[3][4]

Step four: pick your long-term setup

Once you have a few waystones, you can decide how you want to travel. The mod lets waystones be made globally available for all players, which suits community hubs or sharing with friends. It also supports a configurable inventory button for warping without any additional items.[1]

Sharestones work differently. Each one lets you teleport to any other sharestone of the same material, so the Gold Sharestone takes you to any other Gold Sharestone. The Portstone is the odd one out, because its tooltip says it can not be teleported to.[3][4]

How does Waystones work?

9 parts

Waystones is a teleportation mod, so there are no machines, multiblocks, power or fluids to worry about. The core idea is that you activate waystone blocks and then hop between them, or use scrolls and stones to warp. Below is how the pieces work in this pack, using the pack's config values.[1]

Activating and travelling

Once a waystone is activated you can return to it later. You can activate one with a scroll, with a rechargeable warp stone, or by using an existing waystone to hop to another. The mod works in survival, on adventure maps and on servers as an alternative to /warp and /home commands.[1]

The Unbound Scroll works like this: use it on a waystone to bind it. Here is the recipe.[3][4]

Sharestones and portstones

Sharestones link to each other by material. For example, an Amethyst Sharestone teleports you to any other Amethyst Sharestone. The same pattern applies to the copper, diamond, emerald, gold, lapis and prismarine sharestones, which have their own items such as Copper Sharestone and Prismarine Sharestone.[3][4]

The Portstone is different. Its tooltip says it can not be teleported to. The sources don't explain anything more about how portstones work.[3][4]

Warp plates and shards

The mod also adds craftable warp plates. A Dormant Shard has to be inserted into a warp plate to attune it. An attuned shard then tells you to bring it to another warp plate. A shard can lose its attunement, and one that is crumbling will be consumed on its next teleport.[1][3][4]

Costs and rules in this pack

Teleport costs are set by rules.warpRequirements, a list of rules written in Shogi format. The pack's list sets the XP cost to 27 XP points for interdimensional trips, and otherwise to the distance multiplied by 0.01. It makes the cost 0 when you travel from a warp plate to a global waystone, and it clamps the cost between 0 and 27. It also makes warp stones lose 80 durability per use, and puts the inventory button on a 300s cooldown.[5]

Watch out: Those costs are currently switched off. This pack sets rules.enableXpCosts, rules.enableDurability and rules.enableCooldowns to false, and each of those options disables all costs of its kind. Teleporting is free in this pack unless someone changes them.[4][5]

rules.enableModifiers is true in this pack, so warp modifier items that apply status effects on teleports are enabled. The sources don't list which items those are.[4][5]

Visibility and global waystones

rules.defaultVisibility is ACTIVATION in this pack, with GLOBAL as the other allowed value. Waystones are not global by default. rules.allowEveryoneToManageGlobalWaystones is false, so not everyone can manage global waystones. Global waystones are meant for community hubs or sharing with friends.[1][5]

Taking mobs along

Inventory button

inventoryButton.inventoryButton can be NONE, NEAREST (teleports to the nearest waystone), ANY (opens the waystone selection menu) or a specific waystone name. The pack sets it to an empty string, and the sources don't say what that does.[4][5]

Wild waystones and names

  • Wild waystones generate roughly every 25 chunks (worldGen.chunksBetweenWildWaystones). Setting it to 0 turns generation off.[4][5]
  • They can spawn in the Overworld, the Nether and the End, because those dimensions are on worldGen.wildWaystonesDimensionAllowList. The deny list is empty. Biomes must also be in the has_structure/waystone tag.[4][5]
  • worldGen.wildWaystoneStyle is BIOME, so the look of a wild waystone depends on the biome it generates in.[4][5]
  • worldGen.spawnInVillages is REGULAR, so waystones spawn in some villages. They only appear in vanilla or supported villages.[4][5]
  • Names use PRESET_FIRST mode with an empty preset list, and the template is {MrPork}, the default name generator. In practice you get the default generated names unless someone adds presets.[4][5]

Map integrations

Map support is on in this pack. BlueMap (blueMap.enabled) tracks waystones and sharestones but not undiscovered waystones. Dynmap (dynmap.enabled) gets markers for waystones and sharestones. JourneyMap (journeyMap.enabled) gets a waypoint for each activated waystone, and only when the JourneyMap Integration mod is not installed.[4][5]

How do you progress through Waystones?

3 parts

This page follows the recipes the pack has for Waystones, grouped by item type. Each recipe block shows the exact in-pack version, so check those rather than relying on what you remember from the mod's defaults.[3]

Unverified The sources here show no quest chapter for Waystones and no in-jar guidebook, so where the pack's quest book places the mod, and the order in which to unlock things, is unverified.

Waystone blocks

The base block is the Waystone. The pack also has themed variants: Deepslate Waystone, Black Waystone, Sandy Waystone, Muddy Waystone, Nether Waystone, Prismarine Waystone, Purpur Waystone and Ender Waystone.[3]

Which Waystones config options matter?

5 parts

Waystones keeps its settings in one file, config/waystones-common.toml. Below are the options you're most likely to touch, with the exact values this pack uses. The sources I have don't show the mod's own defaults, so I can't tell you which of these the pack changed. These are simply the pack's values.[5]

Costs and cooldowns

The master switches for costs are all off here: rules.enableXpCosts, rules.enableCooldowns and rules.enableDurability are each set to false. By their descriptions, false disables all XP costs, cooldowns and durability costs. Warp modifier items are switched on, because rules.enableModifiers is true.[5]

The fine-grained rules live in rules.warpRequirements. As written in the pack, an interdimensional trip costs 27 XP points, and any other trip costs the distance multiplied by 0.01. Trips from a warp plate to a global waystone cost 0. The final cost is clamped between 0 and 27. Using a warp stone deals 80 durability damage to the item. The inventory button has a 300 second cooldown.[5]

Visibility, pets and leashes

Inventory button

inventoryButton.inventoryButton is set to an empty string. The documented values are none, nearest, any, or a specific waystone name. The sources don't say what an empty value does. The button position is 58 for inventoryButton.inventoryButtonX and 60 for inventoryButton.inventoryButtonY.[5]

World generation

Map integrations

blueMap.enabled, dynmap.enabled and journeyMap.enabled are all true. For BlueMap, waystones and sharestones are tracked as markers, but undiscovered waystones are not (blueMap.includeUndiscoveredWaystones is false). journeyMap.preferJourneyMapIntegrationMod is true, which means Waystones only creates its own JourneyMap waypoints if the JourneyMap Integration mod isn't installed.[5]

What changed in Waystones between versions?

4 parts

All the Mods 11 0.8.0-beta includes Waystones 26.1.2.15, and the mod has been in the pack since 0.0.1 or earlier.[6]

Here are the notable changes from the mod's own changelogs, newest releases last in the big feature steps.[7][8][9][10]

26.1.2.7: a new selection screen

  • The waystone list is now scrollable, replacing the old pagination.[7]
  • You can give waystones personal aliases through a Personal Settings button, handy on multiplayer servers where other people used very generic names.[7]
  • Group filters arrived, with inbuilt groups like Global Waystones, Favorites and one per dimension. You can also make custom groups with an icon and a text color. Groups are personal, not shared, and the first five show up as filters on the selection screen.[7]
  • A Favorites checkbox in Personal Settings adds a waystone to the Favorites group, and a Sort button cycles between Manual, Alphabetic and Distance.[7]
  • A separate Manage Waystones screen lets you drag and drop to rearrange the list. Deletion moved there too.[7]

26.1.2.9: warp settings and polish

  • A new warpSettings config option gives a simpler way to tweak requirements than the more complex warpRequirements.[8]
  • New warp requirement conditions were added: source_is_portal_scroll, target_is_warp_portal, target_is_fleeting_memorial and target_is_player.[8]
  • Dimension-specific group icon overrides are now used automatically when available.[8]
  • Many GUI fixes landed, including the sort toggle choice not saving, the scrollbar not being draggable, and drag to rearrange not working on the Manage Waystones and Manage Groups screens.[8]
  • Default warp requirements now make scrolls exempt from XP costs, and the Return Scroll shows an error message when a teleport fails.[8]
  • New API events were added so other mods can change the waystone list, define groups, and hook into teleports.[8]
Watch out: The warpSettings variables only take effect if your warpRequirements option uses them, so you may need to reset warpRequirements to the default and re-apply your changes. Default requirements migrate automatically, but if you modified them, remove the option from your file and let it regenerate to get the new default.[8]

26.1.2.14 and 26.1.2.15

  • 26.1.2.14 added a Redstone Torch modifier for Warp Plates that stops them from teleporting, plus world gen tags for new waystone types (empty by default).[9]
  • 26.1.2.14 also fixed the defaultVisibility option, which now allows TEAM, and fixed global waystones not showing up immediately. It hotfixed a crash when opening the teleport screen with XP costs enabled.[9]
  • 26.1.2.15 added a button to hide waystones that can't be deleted.[10]
  • 26.1.2.15 fixed warp modifiers not being applied to waystones, custom reach distance being ignored in distance checks, and possible crashes with chunk multithreading mods.[10]

Earlier fixes worth knowing

  • 26.1.2.3 fixed the new waystone types all taking redstone as a crafting ingredient, and 26.1.2.5 fixed missing scoped warp stone recipes.[11][12]
  • 26.1.2.4 fixed the Enable XP Costs and Enable Cooldowns options not being respected, which requires the latest Shogi version.[13]
  • 26.1.2.6 added tooltips to scoped warp stones and fixed a misleading error message on them.[14]
  • 26.1.2.11 fixed a wrong ingredient for the Red Nether Bricks Waystone and stopped mount passengers from starting a warp plate teleport.[15]
  • 26.1.2.12 fixed Dynmap and BlueMap integration not populating, and an integer overflow that broke distance comparisons for large distances.[16]
