What is Waystones?
2 parts
Waystones adds teleportation you can build into your base, your server hub or your adventure map. You place waystone blocks, activate them, and from then on you can return to them. You can hop from one waystone to another, or you can activate them with a Warp Scroll or a rechargeable Warp Stone.[1]
It works in Survival, in Adventure Maps and on Multiplayer Servers, where it can stand in for /warp and /home commands. If you play with friends, waystones can be made global so everyone can use them, which suits a community hub.[1]
What you get
- Craftable Waystones, Warp Plates and Warp Scrolls.[1]
- Teleporting from one waystone to another.[1]
- Global Waystones for community hubs or sharing with friends.[1]
- An optional teleport button in your inventory. It is configurable and lets you warp without any extra items.[1]
- A waystone structure that can generate in villages.[1]
In this pack
The pack ships Waystones 21.1.41, the NeoForge build for Minecraft 1.21.1. It has been included since an early pack release (2.25 or earlier).[2]
The mod needs Balm installed alongside it. Its page says Shogi is only required on Minecraft 26.1 and above, so it does not apply to this 1.21.1 build.[1][2]
Unverified Where Waystones fits in the pack's progression is not confirmed. No quests or ATM Star path steps involving the mod were found, and there is no in-jar guidebook. Treat it as a standalone travel tool you can pick up whenever you like.
How do you get started with Waystones?
5 parts
Waystones lets you teleport between waystone blocks once you've activated them. You can activate one with a Warp Scroll, a rechargeable Warp Stone, or by hopping over from an existing waystone. Here is the order I'd make things in.[1]
First: Make a Warp Stone
Start with the Warp Stone. It is a rechargeable item for warping, and it's also the base of every waystone block recipe in the pack, so you'll want it first.[1][3]

Step 2: Craft your first Waystone
Next, craft a Waystone. Place it near your base so you have a spot to come back to. The pack also has variants, such as the Mossy Waystone, the Deepslate Waystone and the Nether Waystone. The recipe for the deepslate one is shown after the first.[3]

Step 3: Make scrolls for quick trips
The Warp Scroll is the simplest way to activate a waystone and travel without a stone.[1][3]

If you'd rather bind a scroll to a specific waystone, make a Blank Scroll and use it on that waystone.[3][4]

Step 4: Link bases with Sharestones and Warp Plates
Once you have a Warp Stone going, Sharestones are the next thing to look at. A sharestone teleports you to any other sharestone of the same colour. For example, the Blue Sharestone takes you to another Blue Sharestone. The pack has a recipe for every colour.[3][4]

For a walk-on option, craft a Warp Plate. Insert a Dormant Shard into a warp plate to attune it, then bring the attuned shard to another warp plate. The recipes for the plate, the shard and Warp Dust are below.[3][4]

How does Waystones work?
8 parts
Waystones is a teleportation mod, so this section is about how teleporting works rather than power, fluids or item pipes. The sources I have don't describe any machines, multiblocks, power or fluid handling for it, so I'm not going to invent any. What they do cover is how waystones get activated, how long each teleport method takes to charge, what the pack's teleport rules are, and how wild waystones generate.[1][4][5]
Activating and using waystones
A waystone is a block you can return to once it's activated. You can activate one with a Warp Scroll, with a rechargeable Warp Stone, or by hopping from an existing waystone to another one.[1]
The Blank Scroll is used directly on a waystone to bind it.[3][4]

The mod has several waystone block variants: the Black Waystone, the Deepslate Waystone and the Ender Waystone. Their in-pack recipes are shown below.[3]

Charge-up times
Scrolls and warp stones both work by holding right-click while they charge, and a warp plate works by standing on top of it. This pack sets the times in ticks: general.scrollUseTime is 32, general.warpStoneUseTime is 32, and general.warpPlateUseTime is 15.[4][5]
The mod also has a separate setting for how long an entity has to be off a target warp plate before it can teleport from that same plate again. The pack's value for it isn't in the sources.[4]
Warp plates and shards
Shards are inserted into a warp plate. A Dormant Shard attunes the plate, and a Deepslate Shard locks it. An attuned shard tells you to bring it to another warp plate, and it warns you when it will be consumed on the next teleport or when it has lost its attunement.[3][4]
Sharestones and portstones
Sharestones come in colours, and each one lets you teleport to any other sharestone of the same colour. For example, the Black Sharestone connects to other Black Sharestones. Portstones, such as the Black Portstone, carry the tooltip "Can not be teleported to." Each colour has its own recipe.[3][4]

Teleport rules in this pack
teleports.enableCosts is false in the pack, so XP costs are switched off. teleports.enableCooldowns is true, so cooldowns are on.[4][5]
The pack still ships a teleports.warpRequirements list, applied in order, that matters if you ever turn costs on. Teleports within one dimension add an XP cost of the distance times 0.01, and interdimensional teleports add 27. Costs are multiplied by 0 when the source is a warp plate or the target is a global waystone. The cost is clamped between 0 and 27. Teleports from the inventory button also add a cooldown of 300; the sources don't state the unit.[5]
teleports.transportLeashed is ENABLED, so leashed mobs come with you. teleports.transportPets is DISABLED, so your pets stay behind. The teleports.entityDenyList contains only the Wither, which can't be teleported as a pet, leashed, or on warp plates.[4][5]
Ownership, global waystones and the inventory button
general.restrictedWaystones is set to PLAYER, which means only the owner of a player-placed waystone can edit it. Other players see a message that the waystone can't be edited. In the pack, general.allowedVisibilities is an empty list, and the config comment says adding GLOBAL to it lets every player create global waystones.[4][5]
The inventory button, set by inventoryButton.inventoryButton, can be set to NONE (no button), NEAREST (teleports to the nearest waystone), ANY (opens the waystone selection menu), or a waystone name (teleports to that specific waystone).[4][5]
Wild waystones and world generation
Wild waystones generate roughly every 25 chunks, set by worldGen.chunksBetweenWildWaystones. Setting that option to 0 turns generation off. They are allowed in the Overworld, the Nether and the End, and the style is set to BIOME so the look depends on where they generate. The available styles are DEFAULT, MOSSY, SANDY, BLACKSTONE, DEEPSLATE, END_STONE and BIOME.[4][5]
worldGen.spawnInVillages is REGULAR, so waystones appear in some vanilla or supported villages. New names are generated with the template in worldGen.nameGenerationTemplate, which is {MrPork}. worldGen.nameGenerationMode is PRESET_FIRST, but the list in worldGen.nameGenerationPresets is empty in the pack.[4][5]
Map integrations
The pack enables the BlueMap (compatibility.blueMap), Dynmap (compatibility.dynmap) and JourneyMap (compatibility.journeyMap) integrations. BlueMap and Dynmap get markers for waystones and sharestones. JourneyMap gets a waypoint for each activated waystone, but with compatibility.preferJourneyMapIntegrationMod enabled, only when the 'JourneyMap Integration' mod is not installed.[4][5]
How do you progress through Waystones?
6 parts
Unverified The sources here do not show any quest involving Waystones, so there is no quest-guided order to follow. The path below follows the in-pack crafting recipes instead.
Waystones progression in this pack is built entirely out of crafting. Almost everything hangs off one item, Warp Stone, so that is where you start.[3]
First: Warp Stone and Warp Dust
Warp Stone is used in the main recipe of every waystone, portstone and sharestone in this pack. It has its own crafting recipe, so you can make it before anything else.[3]
Crafting Shaped

Recipe id: waystones:warp_stone
The Warp Stone recipe is a shaped crafting recipe from the mod.
Warp Dust has its own shapeless recipe. You will want it later for the Dormant Shard and the Warp Plate.[3]
Warp Dust is shapeless, so the ingredients can go anywhere in the grid.
Next: The Waystone and its variants
With a Warp Stone in hand, you can craft the basic Waystone.[3]
Crafting Shaped

Recipe id: waystones:waystone
The pack also has themed variants: Mossy Waystone, Sandy Waystone, Deepslate Waystone, Black Waystone, Muddy Waystone, Nether Waystone, Ender Waystone, Prismarine Waystone and Purpur Waystone. Each one has its own shaped recipe that swaps in a different building block alongside a Warp Stone.[3]
The Mossy Waystone is the odd one out. Besides its own shaped recipe, it has extra shapeless recipes that start from a plain Waystone.[3]
Mossy Waystone made from a plain Waystone, first variant.
Mossy Waystone made from a plain Waystone, second variant.
Then: Portstones and Sharestones
Next come the dyed stones. Portstones, like the plain Portstone, and sharestones, like Red Sharestone, each come in a range of dye colors. Within each family the recipes are the same and only the dye changes.[3]

Which Waystones config options matter?
5 parts
Everything below lives in the Waystones common config file. These are the values this pack ships with. The sources I have show the pack's settings but not the mod's defaults, so I won't claim which of these the pack changed.[5]
Teleport rules
- teleports.enableCosts is false, so XP costs are switched off. Its description says that setting it to false disables all XP costs, and points to warpRequirements for finer control.[5]
- teleports.warpRequirements is still filled in. It has an interdimensional cost of 27, a max cost of 27, and a cooldown of 300 for teleports that start from the inventory button. Warp plate teleports and teleports to global waystones are multiplied by 0 for XP cost.[5]
- teleports.enableCooldowns is true, so cooldowns are active.[5]
- teleports.transportPets is DISABLED, so your pets won't follow you. teleports.transportLeashed is ENABLED, so leashed mobs do teleport with you.[5]
- teleports.entityDenyList contains only minecraft:wither, so the Wither can't be teleported.[5]
Use times
general.scrollUseTime and general.warpStoneUseTime are both 32 ticks of holding right-click. general.warpPlateUseTime is 15 ticks, which is how long you stand on a warp plate.[5]
Sharing and editing
- general.allowedVisibilities is empty. Its description says you add GLOBAL there to allow every player to create global waystones, and GLOBAL is not in this pack's list.[5]
- general.restrictedWaystones is set to PLAYER, which means only the owner of a player-made waystone can edit it.[5]
World generation
- worldGen.chunksBetweenWildWaystones is 25, the approximate chunk distance between wild waystones. Setting it to 0 would turn generation off.[5]
- worldGen.wildWaystonesDimensionAllowList lists the Overworld, the Nether and the End. The deny list is empty.[5]
- worldGen.wildWaystoneStyle is BIOME, so a wild waystone's look depends on the biome it generates in.[5]
- worldGen.spawnInVillages is REGULAR, so waystones spawn in some villages, but only vanilla or supported ones.[5]
- worldGen.nameGenerationMode is PRESET_FIRST with an empty worldGen.nameGenerationPresets list. worldGen.nameGenerationTemplate is {MrPork}, the default name generator.[5]
Inventory button and map support
- inventoryButton.inventoryButton is set to an empty string. Its description lists NONE, NEAREST, ANY or a waystone name as the meaningful values. The button sits at inventoryButton.inventoryButtonX 58 and inventoryButton.inventoryButtonY 60.[5]
- compatibility.journeyMap, compatibility.blueMap and compatibility.dynmap are all true. compatibility.preferJourneyMapIntegrationMod is also true, so JourneyMap waypoints are only created if the JourneyMap Integration mod isn't installed.[5]
What changed in Waystones between versions?

All the Mods 10 8.1 ships Waystones 21.1.41. The mod has been in the pack since 2.25 or earlier, and it has been updated in many releases since then.[2][6]
The pack changelogs only record which version of the mod each release moved to. They don't say what changed inside each update, and I have no stored changelogs for the shipped jars. So below you get the version path, not a list of features or fixes.[2][6]
