Trash Cans is a mod in All the Mods - Gravitas 4.0, where it is version 1.0.18. Trash Cans adds trash cans which can be used to void items, liquids, and energy! (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

Stuck? Why it might not be working

  • Game crashes when an accelerated Extended Export Bus feeds a Trash Can
Read from the jars and not run in game: in All the Mods 10 8.2, at the default multiplier, an Extended Export Bus from ExtendedAE asks its neighbour for 8, 64, 256, 512 or 768 items at 0, 1, 2, 3 or 4 speed cards, in one go. By the research's inference, ExtendedAE's Precise Export Bus asks for over 99 at 2 or more cards outside pulse mode, and AdvancedAE's ME Advanced IO Bus asks for up to the same amounts. Trash Cans 1.1.0 accepts the whole stack and keeps it in a list it later saves, and Minecraft's save format allows a stack count of 1 to 99 only. A 768 stack throws an error on save, and the game crashes. Do not feed those buses at 2 or more speed cards into a Trash Can. Trash Cans 1.1.1 is reported to fix it. 8.2 ships 1.1.0.

What is Trash Cans?

3 parts

Trash Cans is a simple utility mod that gives you a way to get rid of things you don't want. It adds trash cans that can void items, fluids (liquids and gasses) and energy. This pack includes version 1.0.18 of the mod.[1][2]

The four trash cans

  • Item Trash Can: voids items, and you can set up item filters in its GUI.[1]
  • Fluid Trash Can: voids liquids and gasses, with fluid filters in its GUI.[1]
  • Energy Trash Can: voids energy, and you can set a transfer limit in its GUI.[1]
  • Ultimate Trash Can: handles items, fluids and energy in one block, with the same item and fluid filters and the same energy transfer limit.[1]

Items and fluids can be filtered with either a whitelist or a blacklist. That lets you void only the junk you pick, or everything except the things you want to keep.[1]

Who it's for

It's for anyone whose machines keep producing byproducts, whose tanks are overflowing, or whose energy network needs somewhere to dump surplus power. The mod has no cap on how much it can void or how fast, so a trash can won't become a bottleneck in your setup.[1]

Tip: Deleted something by accident? The mod lets you retrieve up to the last 6 deleted items.[1]
Watch out: Voiding Mekanism nuclear waste is disabled by default in the mod's config and has to be switched on there. Whether this pack changes that setting is unverified.[1]

Where it fits in the pack

The sources don't place Trash Cans at any particular stage of progression. No quests in this pack involve it, and it isn't on the ATM Star path. Treat it as an optional quality-of-life block that you can craft whenever you need it. The mod also has no in-jar guidebook.[1][2]

How do you get started with Trash Cans?

4 parts

Trash Cans is a simple mod: it adds cans that void items, fluids and energy you don't want, so your base and your inventory stay clean. The order below is the order I'd make them in. The ultimate can is crafted from the other cans, so you'll make each of them anyway.[1][3]

Start with the item trash can

Make the Item Trash Can first. It voids items, and it has a filter for up to 9 items, so you choose what gets deleted. Items can be whitelisted or blacklisted, and you set the filter inside its GUI.[1][3][4]

Tip: If you delete something by accident, up to the last 6 deleted items can be retrieved.[1]

Next, the liquid trash can

Then make the Liquid Trash Can. It voids liquids and gasses, and it has a filter for up to 9 fluids. Like the item can, you set the filter inside its GUI.[1][3][4]

Then the energy trash can

The Energy Trash Can voids energy. It can also limit the energy transfer rate, and you set that limit inside its GUI.[1][3][4]

Finish with the ultimate trash can

Last comes the Ultimate Trash Can. It voids items, fluids and energy in one block, with filters for items and liquids and a limit for energy transfer. Its recipe is shapeless and uses the item, liquid and energy cans, which is why it comes last. Crafting one also has its own advancement.[1][3][4]

Watch out: There is no limit on how much a can will void, or how fast. Set your filters before you connect a can to something valuable.[1]

How does Trash Cans work?

5 parts

Trash Cans is a small mod, and the mechanics are just as simple: you place a can and it voids what is sent into it. Each can covers items, fluids, energy, or all of them together.[1][4]

The cans

  • Item Trash Can voids items and has a filter that holds up to 9 items. You set the filter inside its GUI.[1][4]
  • Liquid Trash Can voids liquids and gasses, with a filter for up to 9 fluids. You set the filter inside its GUI.[1][4]
  • Energy Trash Can voids energy. It can also limit the energy transfer rate, which you set inside its GUI.[1][4]
  • Ultimate Trash Can voids items, fluids and energy in a single block. It has the item and fluid filters and the energy transfer limit.[1][4]

Filters and limits

Item and fluid filters can be set up as a whitelist or a blacklist, so you decide which items and fluids the can handles.[1]

Tip: Voiding itself has no cap. The mod's author says you can void items, fluids and energy as much and as fast as you want.[1]

Item retrieval

Deleted something by accident? The mod lets you retrieve up to the last 6 deleted items.[1]

Nuclear waste

Trash cans can void Mekanism nuclear waste, but that is switched off by default. In this pack the option allowVoidingNuclearWaste is set to false, so nuclear waste voiding stays disabled unless you change the file.[1][5]

Crafting

The item, liquid and energy cans each have their own recipe in the pack.[3]

How do you progress through Trash Cans?

2 parts

Trash cans in this pack aren't a ladder of ever-bigger upgrades. You get separate cans for items, fluids and energy, plus an Ultimate Trash Can that is crafted from those cans.[3]

The basic cans

The Item Trash Can, the Liquid Trash Can and the Energy Trash Can are the basic cans. The recipes below show exactly what the pack uses for each.[3]

The Energy Trash Can is a shaped crafting recipe as well.

The final step: Ultimate Trash Can

The Ultimate Trash Can is the top of the line. It is a shapeless recipe made from the item, liquid and energy cans, so craft those first. Nothing else is listed in the recipe.[3]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: trashcans:ultimate_trash_can

Shapeless crafting: the order in the grid doesn't matter.

Tip: The Ultimate Trash Can recipe lists the item, liquid and energy cans, so you can make those as you need them and combine them into the Ultimate Trash Can later.[3]

Unverified The sources here do not show any quest for this mod, so there is no quest order to follow. If the pack's quest book mentions trash cans, that detail is not covered here.

Which Trash Cans config options matter?

2 parts

Good news: Trash Cans has very little to configure, and this pack only exposes one option you'll likely care about. It lives in the common config file for the mod.[5]

Voiding nuclear waste

allowVoidingNuclearWaste decides whether your trash cans are allowed to void Mekanism nuclear waste. This pack sets it to false, which is the same as the mod default, so the pack hasn't changed it.[1][5]

Tip: If you want to dispose of nuclear waste with a trash can, change that option to true in the config file. The mod's own documentation says voiding nuclear waste can be enabled this way.[1][5]

What you don't need the config for

Filtering is handled in the trash can's GUI rather than the config. Items and fluids can be whitelisted or blacklisted there, and the Energy Trash Can lets you set a transfer limit in the GUI too.[1]

Unverified Any other options in the Trash Cans config file are not covered by the sources available for this pack, so their values here are unverified.

What changed in Trash Cans between versions?

1 part

All the Mods - Gravitas 4.0 ships Trash Cans 1.0.18. The mod has been in the pack since All the Mods - Gravitas 1.7 or earlier. The mod's own changelogs only show small changes, mostly translations, plus a couple of fixes and one config addition.[2]

Mod releases

  • 1.0.18 (the version in this pack): added Spanish, Ukrainian and Korean translations, and updated the Simplified Chinese translations.[2][6]
  • 1.0.17a: added a config option to allow voiding radioactive Mekanism gasses.[6][7]
  • 1.0.17: added Traditional Chinese translations.[6][8]
  • 1.0.16: added the trash cans to the 'Decoration' creative tab, and fixed the whitelist button not working.[6][7][8]

If you run a Mekanism setup and want to void its radioactive gasses, the 1.0.17a config option is the one to look for. The changelog doesn't give its exact name or default, so check the mod's config in your instance.[6][7]
