What is Mining Gadgets?
Same as in the All the Mods - Gravitas 4.0 guide
Mining Gadgets is included in this pack at version 1.11.1. That is the version you'll be playing with.[1]
I can only confirm that the mod is installed. The pack's sources don't say what it does in this pack, who it's meant for, or where it fits in progression, so I'm not going to guess at any of that.[1]
Unverified No quests, ATM Star path entries, recipe changes or config changes for Mining Gadgets could be confirmed from the available sources. Check in-game, for example in the recipe viewer, before relying on any specific behavior. This site does hold FTB Evolution 2's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.
How do you get started with Mining Gadgets?
4 parts
Mining Gadgets adds a handheld mining tool in three versions, plus a Modification Table and a long list of upgrades. The gadgets, the table and the upgrades covered below all have crafting recipes in the pack. Here is the order I'd go in.[2][3]
Make a Mining Gadget
The gadget comes in three versions, numbered MK1 to MK3: Mining Gadget MK1, Mining Gadget MK2 and Mining Gadget MK3. I'd start with the MK1, the first in the numbering.[2][3]

The gadget runs on stored power. The pack sets the base cost at 200 per block broken (power.mining_gadget.baseCost) and the maximum power at 1,000,000 (power.mining_gadget.maxPower). Both match the mod defaults. The item tooltip shows the per-block cost, and holding shift shows the upgrades installed.[3][4]
Craft the Modification Table
Upgrades go into the gadget through the Modification Table. In its screen you shift-click an upgrade from your inventory to insert it, or drop it onto the screen. Click an installed upgrade to remove it again.[3]

Add a battery upgrade first
The first upgrade I'd make is Upgrade: Battery, Tier 1, so your gadget can hold more power. Each battery tier has its own capacity boost in the config, and the pack leaves all three at the mod defaults:[3][4]
- Upgrade: Battery, Tier 1 adds 2,000,000 (power.upgrades.battery1).[2][4]
- Upgrade: Battery, Tier 2 adds 5,000,000 (power.upgrades.battery2).[2][4]
- Upgrade: Battery, Tier 3 adds 10,000,000 (power.upgrades.battery3).[2][4]

Then pick your other upgrades
After that, the rest is up to you. The pack has recipes for Efficiency (tiers 1 to 5), Fortune (tiers 1 to 3), Range (tiers 1 to 3) and the 3x3, 5x5 and 7x7 size upgrades. It also has recipes for Silk Touch, Magnet, Freezing, Light Placer and Void Junk.[2][3]
Many upgrades add a power cost per block in the config. A few examples, all at the mod defaults in this pack:[4]
- Upgrade: Efficiency, Tier 1 costs 10 per block (power.upgrades.upgradeEfficiency1).[2][4]
- Upgrade: Fortune, Tier 1 costs 30 per block (power.upgrades.upgradeFortune1).[2][4]
- Upgrade: Magnet costs 25 per block (power.upgrades.upgradeMagnet).[2][4]
- Upgrade: Silk touch costs 100 per block (power.upgrades.upgradeSilkCost).[2][4]
- Upgrade: Void Junk costs 10 per block (power.upgrades.upgradeVoid).[2][4]
How does Mining Gadgets work?
5 parts
Mining Gadgets is built around one idea: a handheld mining tool that runs on stored power, which you customise with upgrade modules. There are three tiers of the tool, Mining Gadget MK1, Mining Gadget MK2 and Mining Gadget MK3. Here is what the pack's files tell us about how it all fits together.[3]
The Modification Table
Upgrades are managed at the Modification Table. Its screen tells you to shift click to insert upgrades from your inventory slots, or to drop an upgrade onto the screen. To take an upgrade back out, you click it. If the gadget has no upgrades available, the screen says so. The block drops itself when broken.[3][5]

Power and break cost
The gadget's tooltip shows a "Per Block Cost" line, and holding shift lists the installed upgrades. The base cost per block broken is set by power.mining_gadget.baseCost, which is 200 in this pack, the same as the mod default. The gadget's maximum power is power.mining_gadget.maxPower, which is 1,000,000 in this pack, also the mod default.[3][4]
The battery upgrades raise that capacity. Each one has a capacity boost value in the config, and the pack keeps the mod defaults for all three:[4]
- Upgrade: Battery, Tier 1: 2,000,000 (set by power.upgrades.battery1).[3][4]
- Upgrade: Battery, Tier 2: 5,000,000 (set by power.upgrades.battery2).[3][4]
- Upgrade: Battery, Tier 3: 10,000,000 (set by power.upgrades.battery3).[3][4]
What upgrades cost per block
Several upgrades have their own power cost in the config. The values below are what this pack uses, and in every case they match the mod defaults.[4]
- Upgrade: Efficiency, Tier 1 costs 10 per block (power.upgrades.upgradeEfficiency1).[3][4]
- Upgrade: Efficiency, Tier 2 costs 20 per block (power.upgrades.upgradeEfficiency2).[3][4]
- Upgrade: Efficiency, Tier 3 costs 30 per block (power.upgrades.upgradeEfficiency3).[3][4]
- Upgrade: Efficiency, Tier 4 costs 40 per block (power.upgrades.upgradeEfficiency4).[3][4]
- Upgrade: Efficiency, Tier 5 costs 50 per block (power.upgrades.upgradeEfficiency5).[3][4]
- Upgrade: Fortune, Tier 1 costs 30 per block (power.upgrades.upgradeFortune1).[3][4]
- Upgrade: Fortune, Tier 2 costs 60 per block (power.upgrades.upgradeFortune2).[3][4]
- Upgrade: Fortune, Tier 3 costs 100 per block (power.upgrades.upgradeFortune3).[3][4]
- Upgrade: Silk touch costs 100 per block (power.upgrades.upgradeSilkCost).[3][4]
- Upgrade: Magnet costs 25 per block (power.upgrades.upgradeMagnet).[3][4]
- Upgrade: Void Junk costs 10 per block (power.upgrades.upgradeVoid).[3][4]
- Upgrade: Freezing costs 100 per block frozen (power.upgrades.upgradeFreeze).[3][4]
- Upgrade: Light Placer costs 100 per light block placed (power.upgrades.upgradeLight).[3][4]
The Range upgrades (Upgrade: Range, Tier 1 to Upgrade: Range, Tier 3) and the size upgrades (Upgrade: 3x3 for 3x3, Upgrade: 5x5 for 5x5, Upgrade: 7x7 for 7x7) have no power cost entry in the config, so I can't tell you what they cost.[3][4]
Screen settings
The gadget's screen has a Precision Mode value. There is also a delay setting that controls how often a freeze particle is spawned. By default it is one particle every tick, and adding more delay reduces the amount of particles.[3]
Other blocks
The mod also has a Miner's Light block and a Render Block. The Render Block is labelled "Don't use" in its name, so leave it alone.[3]
How do you progress through Mining Gadgets?
3 parts
The Mining Gadgets progression in this pack is built from three gadget tiers and a set of upgrade modules. The sources I have cover the items and their crafting recipes, so this section covers what exists and how each piece is crafted. It does not cover anything beyond that.[2]
The three gadgets
The tool comes in three versions: Mining Gadget MK1 (MK1), Mining Gadget MK2 (MK2) and Mining Gadget MK3 (MK3). Each has its own crafting recipe, shown below so you get the exact in-pack version.[2]

Upgrade families
Several upgrades come in numbered tiers, and each tier has its own recipe in the pack:[2]
- Battery: Upgrade: Battery, Tier 1, Upgrade: Battery, Tier 2 and Upgrade: Battery, Tier 3.[2]
- Efficiency: five tiers, from Upgrade: Efficiency, Tier 1 up to Upgrade: Efficiency, Tier 5.[2]

Which Mining Gadgets config options matter?
3 parts
Same as in the All the Mods - Gravitas 4.0 guide
Every Mining Gadgets option you'll care about lives in power.mining_gadget.baseCost's file, config/mininggadgets-common.toml, and they all deal with power. Each value is a cost per block or a capacity, and every one must be greater than 0. Here is exactly how this pack sets them.[6]
The gadget itself
- power.mining_gadget.baseCost is the base power cost per block broken, set to 200 in this pack.[6]
- power.mining_gadget.maxPower is the gadget's maximum power, set to 1,000,000 in this pack.[6]
Battery upgrades
The three battery upgrades add to the gadget's capacity. Battery 1 adds 2,000,000 (power.upgrades.battery1), Battery 2 adds 5,000,000 (power.upgrades.battery2), and Battery 3 adds 10,000,000 (power.upgrades.battery3).[6]
Upgrade costs per block
Most other upgrades charge extra power for every block you mine. These are the values this pack uses.[6]
- Efficiency 1 to 5 cost 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 per block (power.upgrades.upgradeEfficiency1, power.upgrades.upgradeEfficiency2, power.upgrades.upgradeEfficiency3, power.upgrades.upgradeEfficiency4, power.upgrades.upgradeEfficiency5).[6]
- Fortune 1 to 3 cost 30, 60 and 100 per block (power.upgrades.upgradeFortune1, power.upgrades.upgradeFortune2, power.upgrades.upgradeFortune3).[6]
- Silk Touch costs 100 per block (power.upgrades.upgradeSilkCost).[6]
- Magnet costs 25 per block (power.upgrades.upgradeMagnet).[6]
- Void Junk costs 10 per block (power.upgrades.upgradeVoid).[6]
- Freeze costs 100 per block frozen (power.upgrades.upgradeFreeze).[6]
- Light costs 100 per light block placed (power.upgrades.upgradeLight).[6]
Unverified The pack's config file doesn't show the mod's default values, so I can't tell you which of these numbers the pack changed from the default. Treat the values above as what this pack uses, and don't assume they match a standalone install of the mod.
