What is Mining Gadgets?
1 part
Mining Gadgets is a tool mod, and this pack ships version 1.18.7 of it. It adds the Mining Gadget family of handheld tools, which come in a simple, a fancy and a full version: Mining Gadget MK1, Mining Gadget MK2 and Mining Gadget MK3.[1][2]
Where it sits in the quest book
The pack's quest book places the mod in the "useful_items_tips" chapter, through the quest "Powered Mining Tools" quest. That quest has no title, and its task accepts any one of the gadget items, so whichever version you have will complete it.[2]
It is the only quest in the sources that involves this mod. The chapter listing here doesn't show which quests come before or after it.[2]
Unverified Whether the ATM Star path uses Mining Gadgets is not shown by the sources here, so check the pack's quest book in-game before you plan around it.
How do you get started with Mining Gadgets?
5 parts
Welcome to Mining Gadgets! The plan is simple: make the Blank Upgrade Module, then your first gadget, then the table you use to manage upgrades. After that you can start adding upgrades.[3]
Step one: Blank Upgrade Module
Start with the Blank Upgrade Module. It is used in the recipes for the gadgets, the Modification Table and most of the upgrades, so you will want several of them.[3]

Step two: your first Mining Gadget
Next, craft a gadget. It comes in three versions: Mining Gadget MK1, Mining Gadget MK2 and Mining Gadget MK3. The pack's recipes are shown below, starting with the MK1.[3]

There is also a quest for this step, "Powered Mining Tools" quest, in the useful_items_tips chapter. It is completed by having any one of the three gadgets.[2][3]
Step three: Modification Table
The Modification Table is where you manage upgrades. Its screen tells you to shift click upgrades in from your slots or drop them onto the screen, and to click an installed upgrade to remove it.[3][4]

Once you have upgrades, hold shift while looking at the gadget's tooltip to see which ones it has. The tooltip also shows a per block cost.[4]
Step four: first upgrades
A good first pick is Upgrade: Efficiency, Tier 1. It is the base of the efficiency line, which continues up to Upgrade: Efficiency, Tier 5. Each higher tier uses the previous one as an ingredient.[3]

Save these for later
The pack has changed the recipes for the Fortune, Range and Size upgrades, so they can differ from the mod's defaults and from other guides. This covers Upgrade: Fortune, Tier 1, Upgrade: Range, Tier 1 and Upgrade: 3x3 (the 3x3 upgrade), and the higher tiers up to Upgrade: 7x7 (7x7). Check the in-pack recipe before you plan a build.[3]

How does Mining Gadgets work?
5 parts
Mining Gadgets is a handheld mining tool mod. The sources for this pack explain the gadget's power budget and its upgrade system, so that's what this section covers.[4][5]
Power budget
Every block you break costs power. The base cost is 200 per block (power.mining_gadget.baseCost), and the gadget holds a maximum of 1,000,000 (power.mining_gadget.maxPower). Both values are the same as the mod defaults, so the pack hasn't touched them.[5]
The gadget's tooltip shows a "Per Block Cost" line, so you can check what each block costs with your current setup. Holding shift on the tooltip shows the installed upgrades.[4]
Getting a gadget
The gadget comes in three versions: Mining Gadget MK1 (MK1), Mining Gadget MK2 (MK2) and Mining Gadget MK3 (MK3). Their recipes follow.[3]

The Modification Table
The Modification Table is where you handle upgrades. On its screen you can shift-click an upgrade from your inventory slots, or drop it onto the screen. To take an upgrade back out, click it.[3][4]

What each upgrade costs
The common config sets a per-block power cost for several upgrades, and the battery upgrades set a capacity boost instead. In this pack, each value listed below is the same as the mod default.[5]
- Upgrade: Battery, Tier 1 gives a capacity boost of 2,000,000 (power.upgrades.battery1).[3][5]
- Upgrade: Battery, Tier 2 gives a capacity boost of 5,000,000 (power.upgrades.battery2).[3][5]
- Upgrade: Battery, Tier 3 gives a capacity boost of 10,000,000 (power.upgrades.battery3).[3][5]
- Upgrade: Efficiency, Tier 1 costs 10 per block (power.upgrades.upgradeEfficiency1).[3][5]
- Upgrade: Efficiency, Tier 2 costs 20 per block (power.upgrades.upgradeEfficiency2).[3][5]
- Upgrade: Efficiency, Tier 3 costs 30 per block (power.upgrades.upgradeEfficiency3).[3][5]
- Upgrade: Efficiency, Tier 4 costs 40 per block (power.upgrades.upgradeEfficiency4).[3][5]
- Upgrade: Efficiency, Tier 5 costs 50 per block (power.upgrades.upgradeEfficiency5).[3][5]
- Upgrade: Fortune, Tier 1 costs 30 per block (power.upgrades.upgradeFortune1).[3][5]
- Upgrade: Fortune, Tier 2 costs 60 per block (power.upgrades.upgradeFortune2).[3][5]
- Upgrade: Fortune, Tier 3 costs 100 per block (power.upgrades.upgradeFortune3).[3][5]
- Upgrade: Magnet costs 25 per block (power.upgrades.upgradeMagnet).[3][5]
- Upgrade: Silk touch costs 100 per block (power.upgrades.upgradeSilkCost).[3][5]
- Upgrade: Freezing costs 100 per block frozen (power.upgrades.upgradeFreeze).[3][5]
- Upgrade: Light Placer costs 100 per Light Block placed (power.upgrades.upgradeLight).[3][5]
- The Void Junk upgrade costs 10 per block (power.upgrades.upgradeVoid).[5]
The freeze particle has a delay control on its screen. By default it is one particle every tick, and adding more delay reduces the number of particles.[4]
Recipes the pack changed
The power numbers above are untouched, but the pack did change the recipes for the Fortune and Range upgrades. These are the ones that apply here.[3][5]

How do you progress through Mining Gadgets?
5 parts
Mining Gadgets progression in this pack is a short ladder: pick a gadget, build a Modification Table, then stack upgrades on top. The quest book has a quest for the mod in the useful_items_tips chapter. "Powered Mining Tools" quest is satisfied by having any one of Mining Gadget MK1, Mining Gadget MK2 or Mining Gadget MK3.[2]
Step 1: The base materials
Everything starts with the Blank Upgrade Module. The gadgets, the table and the first tier of most upgrades are built on it, so make a few. This recipe is the mod's own and the pack hasn't changed it.[3]

Step 2: Choose your gadget
There are three gadgets: MK1, MK2 and MK3. Each has its own crafting recipe, and none of them is changed by the pack. Any of the three completes the quest.[2][3]

Step 3: Upgrade tiers
Several upgrades come in tiers, and each tier uses the previous tier's upgrade as an ingredient. You build them in order.[3]
- Efficiency runs from Upgrade: Efficiency, Tier 1 up to Upgrade: Efficiency, Tier 5, five tiers in total. All five are mod recipes.[3]
- Battery has three tiers, from Upgrade: Battery, Tier 1 to Upgrade: Battery, Tier 3. These are also unchanged mod recipes.[3]
- Fortune has three tiers, from Upgrade: Fortune, Tier 1 to Upgrade: Fortune, Tier 3. The pack changed these recipes.[3]
- Range has three tiers, from Upgrade: Range, Tier 1 to Upgrade: Range, Tier 3. The pack changed these recipes too.[3]
- Size goes from Upgrade: 3x3 to Upgrade: 5x5 to Upgrade: 7x7. The pack changed all three recipes.[3]
The pack-changed chains
Here are the first steps of the Fortune, Range and Size chains as the pack defines them. The later tiers follow the same pattern of one step building on the one before.[3]

Single-tier upgrades
The rest of the upgrades have no tiers and are unchanged mod recipes. They are Upgrade: Magnet, Upgrade: Silk touch, Upgrade: Freezing, Upgrade: Light Placer and Upgrade: Void Junk. Each one uses the Blank Upgrade Module as an ingredient.[3]
Which FTB Skies 2 quests use Mining Gadgets?
In this pack, Mining Gadgets appears in the "useful_items_tips" quest chapter, and the sources show no other chapter that involves it. Since only this quest is listed, there is no order to follow.[2]
The quest is "Powered Mining Tools" quest, and it has no title in the pack files. Its task is an item check that accepts any of the gadget tiers: Mining Gadget MK1, Mining Gadget MK2 or Mining Gadget MK3.[2]
Which Mining Gadgets config options matter?
3 parts
Same as in the All the Mods - Gravitas 4.0 guide
Every Mining Gadgets option you'll care about lives in power.mining_gadget.baseCost's file, config/mininggadgets-common.toml, and they all deal with power. Each value is a cost per block or a capacity, and every one must be greater than 0. Here is exactly how this pack sets them.[6]
The gadget itself
- power.mining_gadget.baseCost is the base power cost per block broken, set to 200 in this pack.[6]
- power.mining_gadget.maxPower is the gadget's maximum power, set to 1,000,000 in this pack.[6]
Battery upgrades
The three battery upgrades add to the gadget's capacity. Battery 1 adds 2,000,000 (power.upgrades.battery1), Battery 2 adds 5,000,000 (power.upgrades.battery2), and Battery 3 adds 10,000,000 (power.upgrades.battery3).[6]
Upgrade costs per block
Most other upgrades charge extra power for every block you mine. These are the values this pack uses.[6]
- Efficiency 1 to 5 cost 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 per block (power.upgrades.upgradeEfficiency1, power.upgrades.upgradeEfficiency2, power.upgrades.upgradeEfficiency3, power.upgrades.upgradeEfficiency4, power.upgrades.upgradeEfficiency5).[6]
- Fortune 1 to 3 cost 30, 60 and 100 per block (power.upgrades.upgradeFortune1, power.upgrades.upgradeFortune2, power.upgrades.upgradeFortune3).[6]
- Silk Touch costs 100 per block (power.upgrades.upgradeSilkCost).[6]
- Magnet costs 25 per block (power.upgrades.upgradeMagnet).[6]
- Void Junk costs 10 per block (power.upgrades.upgradeVoid).[6]
- Freeze costs 100 per block frozen (power.upgrades.upgradeFreeze).[6]
- Light costs 100 per light block placed (power.upgrades.upgradeLight).[6]
Unverified The pack's config file doesn't show the mod's default values, so I can't tell you which of these numbers the pack changed from the default. Treat the values above as what this pack uses, and don't assume they match a standalone install of the mod.
