What is Mining Gadgets?
1 part
The pack includes Mining Gadgets at version 1.18.7. The mod adds the Mining Gadget in its Mining Gadget MK1, Mining Gadget MK2 and Mining Gadget MK3 versions, plus the Modification Table.[1][2]
Where it fits in the quest book
The pack's quest book places Mining Gadgets in the gearing_up chapter. The quest there is "Mining Gadgets" quest, and it has no title in the quest data.[2]
That quest has a task for the gadget and a task for the Modification Table. The gadget task accepts any of the Mining Gadget versions, so whichever one you get first will count. The other task asks you to have the Modification Table.[2]
The sources I have don't show which quests come before or after it in that chapter, so I can't tell you what it unlocks or what leads into it.[2]
How do you get started with Mining Gadgets?
5 parts
The Mining Gadget comes in three versions in this pack: Mining Gadget MK1, Mining Gadget MK2 and Mining Gadget MK3. You build on them with upgrade modules, so here's the route I'd follow.[3]
Step 1: the Blank Upgrade Module
Start with the Blank Upgrade Module. The gadget recipes, the Modification Table recipe and many of the upgrade recipes all use it as an ingredient, so it comes first.[3]

Step 2: the Mining Gadget
Next, make a gadget. The MK1, MK2 and MK3 recipes each use a Blank Upgrade Module, and all three recipes are shown below.[3]

The MK3 gadget.
Any of the three gadgets counts for the quest "Mining Gadgets" quest in the gearing_up chapter. That quest also asks for the Modification Table.[2][3]
Step 3: the Modification Table
The Modification Table is where you manage upgrades. In its screen you can shift-click an upgrade from your inventory slots to insert it, or drop an upgrade onto the screen. Click an upgrade to remove it.[3][4]

Step 4: your first upgrades
With the table ready, start with the simple upgrades. Upgrade: Efficiency, Tier 1 and Upgrade: Battery, Tier 1 each use a Blank Upgrade Module as their base. Both are also the first step of a tiered line: Efficiency goes up to Tier 5 and Battery up to Tier 3.[3]

Check the recipes before you plan bigger upgrades
The pack has changed several upgrade recipes: the Fortune tiers, the Range tiers and the 3x3, 5x5 and 7x7 size upgrades. Use the recipe shown on the site rather than what you remember from the mod's defaults.[3]

How does Mining Gadgets work?
6 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 0.60 guide
Mining Gadgets has no machines, multiblocks or fluid and item pipes to worry about. The system is a handheld mining tool that you customise with upgrade modules at a workbench. The sources for this pack explain the basics, so that is what I cover here.[5][6]
The gadget and its tiers
There are three versions of the tool: Mining Gadget MK1 (MK1), Mining Gadget MK2 (MK2) and Mining Gadget MK3 (MK3). In this pack all three are made from the same set of ingredients, so each has its own recipe but none needs a different material from the others. I can't confirm from the sources whether they behave differently once you have one in hand.[5][6]

The gadget's tooltip shows a line called "Per Block Cost", which is how much each block you break costs you. You can also hold shift on the tooltip to see which upgrades are installed.[5]
The Modification Table
Upgrades are installed at the Modification Table. Its screen tells you to shift click to insert an upgrade from your inventory slots, or to drop an upgrade onto the screen. To take one back out, click it. If nothing fits the gadget, the screen says "No Upgrades available".[5]

Upgrade modules

Recipe id: mininggadgets:upgrade_empty
The mod's language file lists these upgrade families: Battery (Tier 1 to 3, plus a Creative Battery), Efficiency (Tier 1 to 5), Fortune (Tier 1 to 3), Range (Tier 1 to 3), size upgrades (3x3, 5x5 and 7x7), Freezing, Light Placer, Magnet, Silk touch and Void Junk.[5]
The recipe sources I have cover only part of that list, so I can't say how the others are obtained in this pack. Their exact effects are also not described in the sources.[5][6]
Tiered upgrades build on each other
The battery and efficiency upgrades are crafted by upgrading the previous tier, so you can't skip ahead. Upgrade: Battery, Tier 2 needs Upgrade: Battery, Tier 1, and Upgrade: Battery, Tier 3 needs Tier 2. Efficiency works the same way from Upgrade: Efficiency, Tier 1 up to Upgrade: Efficiency, Tier 5.[6]

Pack-changed upgrades
The pack changed the recipes for Upgrade: Range, Tier 1, Upgrade: Range, Tier 2 and Upgrade: Fortune, Tier 1. The recipes below are what you craft in this pack, not the mod's defaults. Range Tier 2 is built from Range Tier 1.[6]

Freezing and Light Placer
Upgrade: Freezing has a particle delay setting on its screen. By default the gadget spawns one freeze particle every tick, and adding more delay reduces the number of particles. This setting controls only the visuals.[5]

Upgrade: Light Placer goes with the mod's Miner's Light block. I can't confirm from the sources how the two interact, only that both exist.[5][6]
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: mininggadgets:upgrade_light_placer
The gadget's screen also shows a "Precision Mode" value. What it does isn't explained in the sources.[5]
Unverified Energy use and capacity, the effects of each upgrade tier, how Mining Gadgets handles items it mines, and compatibility with automation or other mods' power systems are not described in the sources for this pack. No config files for this mod exist in the pack.
How do you progress through Mining Gadgets?
3 parts
Progression with Mining Gadgets in this pack centres on one quest, "Mining Gadgets" quest, in the Gearing Up chapter. It asks you to get any one of Mining Gadget MK1, Mining Gadget MK2 or Mining Gadget MK3, plus a Modification Table.[2]
Step 1: the gadget and the table
Everything starts with the Blank Upgrade Module. It is an ingredient in the gadget recipes, in the Modification Table and in the first step of each upgrade line.[3]

The three gadgets are MK1, MK2 and MK3, and the quest accepts any of them. The recipe dump lists the same ingredients for all three, so check the recipe blocks below for the exact layouts. The Modification Table is also crafted from the Blank Upgrade Module.[2][3]

Step 2: tiered upgrades
Several upgrades come in tiers. Each higher tier is crafted from the previous tier's item, so you have to climb them in order.[3]
- Efficiency runs from Upgrade: Efficiency, Tier 1 to Upgrade: Efficiency, Tier 5. These use the mod's own recipes.[3]
- Battery runs from Upgrade: Battery, Tier 1 to Upgrade: Battery, Tier 3. These also use the mod's own recipes.[3]
- Fortune runs from Upgrade: Fortune, Tier 1 to Upgrade: Fortune, Tier 3. The pack changed these recipes.[3]
- Range runs from Upgrade: Range, Tier 1 to Upgrade: Range, Tier 3. The pack changed these recipes.[3]
- Size goes Upgrade: 3x3, then Upgrade: 5x5, then Upgrade: 7x7. The pack changed these recipes too.[3]

Step 3: single-step utility upgrades
These upgrades have no tiers and are each crafted in one step from a Blank Upgrade Module: Upgrade: Freezing, Upgrade: Light Placer, Upgrade: Magnet, Upgrade: Silk touch and Upgrade: Void Junk. Each one uses the mod's own recipe. The Freezing and Light Placer recipes are shown below.[3]

Which FTB StoneBlock 4 quests use Mining Gadgets?
1 part
Mining Gadgets appears in one quest chapter in this pack: "gearing_up".[2]
Gearing Up
The quest "Mining Gadgets" quest has no title in the pack files. It has two item tasks.[2]
- The first task accepts any one of the Mining Gadget versions: Mining Gadget MK1, Mining Gadget MK2 or Mining Gadget MK3. You don't need a specific one to complete it.[2]
- The second task asks for the Modification Table.[2]
Which Mining Gadgets config options matter?
3 parts
Same as in the All the Mods - Gravitas 4.0 guide
Every Mining Gadgets option you'll care about lives in power.mining_gadget.baseCost's file, config/mininggadgets-common.toml, and they all deal with power. Each value is a cost per block or a capacity, and every one must be greater than 0. Here is exactly how this pack sets them.[7]
The gadget itself
- power.mining_gadget.baseCost is the base power cost per block broken, set to 200 in this pack.[7]
- power.mining_gadget.maxPower is the gadget's maximum power, set to 1,000,000 in this pack.[7]
Battery upgrades
The three battery upgrades add to the gadget's capacity. Battery 1 adds 2,000,000 (power.upgrades.battery1), Battery 2 adds 5,000,000 (power.upgrades.battery2), and Battery 3 adds 10,000,000 (power.upgrades.battery3).[7]
Upgrade costs per block
Most other upgrades charge extra power for every block you mine. These are the values this pack uses.[7]
- Efficiency 1 to 5 cost 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 per block (power.upgrades.upgradeEfficiency1, power.upgrades.upgradeEfficiency2, power.upgrades.upgradeEfficiency3, power.upgrades.upgradeEfficiency4, power.upgrades.upgradeEfficiency5).[7]
- Fortune 1 to 3 cost 30, 60 and 100 per block (power.upgrades.upgradeFortune1, power.upgrades.upgradeFortune2, power.upgrades.upgradeFortune3).[7]
- Silk Touch costs 100 per block (power.upgrades.upgradeSilkCost).[7]
- Magnet costs 25 per block (power.upgrades.upgradeMagnet).[7]
- Void Junk costs 10 per block (power.upgrades.upgradeVoid).[7]
- Freeze costs 100 per block frozen (power.upgrades.upgradeFreeze).[7]
- Light costs 100 per light block placed (power.upgrades.upgradeLight).[7]
Unverified The pack's config file doesn't show the mod's default values, so I can't tell you which of these numbers the pack changed from the default. Treat the values above as what this pack uses, and don't assume they match a standalone install of the mod.
