Mining Gadgets in All the Mods 10

Mining Gadgets adds three tiers of the Mining Gadget to the pack: Mining Gadget MK1, Mining Gadget MK2 and Mining Gadget MK3. This pack ships version 1.18.7 of the mod, and the mod list shows it was first included in 2.25 or earlier.^[1][2]

Where it sits in the quest book

The pack's quest book puts Mining Gadgets in the "Basic Tools" chapter. The quest a quest in "Basic Tools" is marked Tier: 4, and it comes after the quest "Basic Tools!" in that chapter.^[2]

The quest's task is to have any one of the three gadgets, so whichever tier you get first completes it.^[2]

Unverified The sources here do not show whether the ATM Star quest path uses Mining Gadgets, and they do not show how the gadgets are crafted or whether the pack changes any of the mod's defaults. Check the quest book and the in-game recipe viewer for those details. This site does hold All the Mods 10's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

Mining Gadgets is built around one handheld tool that you customize with upgrade modules. In this pack almost everything starts from one item, so here's the order I'd go in.^[3]

Step one: craft a Blank Upgrade Module

The Blank Upgrade Module is an ingredient in all three gadgets, in the Modification Table and in most of the upgrades. The pack adds its own recipe for it, so check the recipe below rather than relying on what you remember from other packs.^[3]

This recipe is added by the pack.

Step two: make your first Mining Gadget

Next, craft the Mining Gadget MK1. The quest a quest in "Basic Tools" in the Basic Tools chapter is completed by having any of the three gadgets, so MK1, MK2 or MK3 all count.^[2][3]

Step three: build the Modification Table

Upgrades go into the gadget through the Modification Table. On its screen you can shift-click upgrades in from your inventory or drop them onto the screen, and you click an installed upgrade to remove it. Make the table before you start crafting upgrades, so you can install them right away.^[3][4]

Step four: craft your first upgrades

Two simple upgrades to start with are Upgrade: Efficiency, Tier 1 and Upgrade: Magnet. Both use the mod's own recipes, unchanged by the pack.^[3]

Hold shift over the gadget to see which upgrades are installed. The gadget's tooltip also shows a per-block cost.^[4]

The Mining Gadget isn't a multiblock or a pipe-and-cable machine. It's a handheld tool that you customise with upgrade modules at the Modification Table. The sources only explain the upgrade workflow and a few tooltips, so this section stays short.^[3][4]

The three gadget tiers

The pack has three versions of the tool: Mining Gadget MK1 (MK1), Mining Gadget MK2 (MK2) and Mining Gadget MK3 (MK3). Each has its own crafting recipe, and all three need a Blank Upgrade Module as part of the craft.^[3]

Using the Modification Table

The Modification Table is where you add and remove upgrades. Its recipe also uses a Blank Upgrade Module.^[3]

• Shift-click an upgrade from your inventory slots to insert it, or drop the upgrade onto the table screen.^[4]
• Click an installed upgrade to remove it.^[4]
• If a gadget has nothing available to configure, the screen shows a "No Upgrades available" message.^[4]

Reading the gadget's tooltip

Hold Shift over the gadget to list the upgrades installed in it. The tooltip also shows a "Per Block Cost" value, so you can see what each broken block costs you.^[4]

The configuration screen can also show a Precision Mode value. For the Upgrade: Freezing upgrade there is a delay setting that controls how often a freeze particle is spawned. By default it is one particle every tick, and adding delay reduces the number of particles.^[4]

Upgrade modules

Nearly every upgrade starts from the Blank Upgrade Module. The upgrades in the pack are Battery (tiers 1 to 3), Efficiency (tiers 1 to 5), Fortune (tiers 1 to 3), Range (tiers 1 to 3), 3x3 size, Freezing, Light Placer, Magnet and Silk Touch. Higher tiers of Battery, Efficiency, Fortune and Range are crafted from the previous tier, so you build them up step by step.^[3]

These are some of the simpler upgrades to craft.^[3]

Recipes the pack changed

The pack changes several upgrade recipes, so don't rely on the mod's defaults. The changed ones are Upgrade: Efficiency, Tier 2 through Upgrade: Efficiency, Tier 5, all three Fortune tiers, all three Range tiers, and Upgrade: 3x3.^[3]

Unverified The sources don't confirm how the gadget stores or uses power, how much the Battery upgrades add, what the Range and Efficiency tiers change numerically, or how the Precision Mode value is set. There is no config file for this mod in the pack, and four of the recipes in the dump weren't shown.

The pack's quest book gives Mining Gadgets one quest that I can see, a quest in "Basic Tools", in the Basic Tools chapter. It completes when you hold any of Mining Gadget MK1, Mining Gadget MK2 or Mining Gadget MK3. After that, the rest of the progression is the upgrade recipes below.^[2]

Step one: the Blank Upgrade Module

Almost everything in this mod needs the Blank Upgrade Module, and the pack added its own recipe for it. Get this sorted first, because the gadgets and most upgrades start from it.^[3]

The three gadget tiers

The MK1, MK2 and MK3 gadgets each have their own crafting recipe, and all three use the mod's own recipes unchanged. Each one needs a Blank Upgrade Module.^[3]

Upgrade lines

Upgrades come in tiered lines. From tier 2 up, each recipe takes the previous tier's upgrade, so you have to climb them in order. Here is what the pack changed and what it left alone.^[3]

• Efficiency: five tiers, from Upgrade: Efficiency, Tier 1 to Upgrade: Efficiency, Tier 5. Tier 1 is the mod's own recipe, while tiers 2 to 5 are changed by the pack.^[3]
• Fortune: three tiers, from Upgrade: Fortune, Tier 1 to Upgrade: Fortune, Tier 3. All three recipes are changed by the pack.^[3]
• Range: three tiers, from Upgrade: Range, Tier 1 to Upgrade: Range, Tier 3. All three recipes are changed by the pack.^[3]
• Size: Upgrade: 3x3, Upgrade: 5x5 and Upgrade: 7x7. All three recipes are changed by the pack, and each of the last two builds on the one before.^[3]
• Battery: three tiers, from Upgrade: Battery, Tier 1 to Upgrade: Battery, Tier 3. These use the mod's own recipes.^[3]
• Single-tier utilities: Upgrade: Freezing, Upgrade: Light Placer, Upgrade: Magnet, Upgrade: Silk touch and Upgrade: Void Junk. All of them use the mod's own recipes, and each is made from a Blank Upgrade Module plus other items.^[3]

Mining Gadgets only shows up in one quest chapter in this pack: Basic Tools. There's a single quest for it, so there's no long questline to follow.^[2]

The quest is a quest in "Basic Tools", and it has no title in the quest data. It's a plain item-check task. You complete it by having any one of the three Mining Gadget tiers: Mining Gadget MK1, Mining Gadget MK2 or Mining Gadget MK3. You don't need a specific tier, so whichever you build first counts.^[2]

For order, the quest is listed as coming after an entry named "Basic Tools!" in the same chapter, so you unlock it by working through that part of the chapter first. The quest data is also marked Tier: 4.^[2]

Unverified The quest data doesn't say what the quest rewards, and it doesn't spell out what the "Basic Tools!" prerequisite is. Check the in-game quest book for the reward and the exact prerequisite.

The sources for Mining Gadgets in this pack are thin, so this is a short history rather than a full changelog.^[1][5]

• Mining Gadgets was already in the pack by All the Mods 10 2.25 or earlier.^[1]
• In All the Mods 10 7.2, the mod was updated from 1.18.6 to 1.18.7.^[5]
• All the Mods 10 8.1, the version this guide covers, ships Mining Gadgets 1.18.7 (mininggadgets-1.18.7.jar), so you are still on the version introduced in 7.2.^[1][5]

Unverified What actually changed inside Mining Gadgets between 1.18.6 and 1.18.7 is unverified. No changelog for the shipped jars is available in the sources here, so this guide can't say which fixes or features the update brought.
