Laser Bridges & Doors is a mod in FTB Evolution 2 1.4.0, where it is version 6.2. Adds laser sources that create laser platforms and doors when powered (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

What is Laser Bridges & Doors?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 2.38 guide

Laser Bridges & Doors is a small, decorative redstone mod that gives you futuristic laser bridges, doors and fences. You place a laser source block, give it a redstone signal, and it projects a laser structure outward. This pack ships version 1.21.1-1-neoforge of the mod.[1][2]

How it works

  • The laser only forms while the source block is powered by redstone, so a lever, button or pressure plate is enough to open and close a laser door or bridge.[1]
  • The length of the laser depends on the redstone signal strength and updates as the signal changes. A weaker signal gives you a shorter bridge.[1]
  • You can recolor a laser source by clicking it with a dye in hand, or have a dispenser apply the dye for you.[1]
  • There are full block laser sources for more complex redstone contraptions, plus a Laser Fence Source Block variant for laser fences.[1]

The mod is configurable. One option sets the maximum laser length at full power, and all partial lengths are calculated from it. The mod's own default is 15 blocks. Another option lists the blocks that lasers are allowed to cut through and replace.[1]

Unverified The sources don't confirm whether this pack keeps the mod's default maximum laser length or changes it. Test it in game before you plan a long bridge.

Who it's for

If you like building bases with a sci-fi look, secret entrances or redstone-controlled walkways, this mod is for you. Its job is style and redstone fun rather than tech or resource progression.[1]

Unverified The sources don't document a place for this mod in the pack's progression, and no in-pack recipe for the laser source blocks could be confirmed. Check the recipe viewer in game. This site does hold FTB Evolution 2's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

How do you get started with Laser Bridges & Doors?

4 parts

Welcome to Laser Bridges & Doors! This mod adds futuristic laser bridges, doors and fences, and they all start from one block: the laser source. When a redstone signal reaches it, it fires a laser. Here is what to make first, and why.[1]

Step 1: Craft the Laser Source

Your first item is the Laser Source. The pack changes this recipe, so don't rely on the mod's default recipe from other sources. The recipe below is the one that counts here, and it makes 2 sources per craft, which is enough to try a bridge and keep a spare.[3]

Step 2: Power it with redstone

A laser source only makes a bridge, door or fence while it receives a redstone signal. The laser's length follows the signal strength and updates on the fly, so a weaker signal gives you a shorter laser.[1]

A fully powered source reaches the maximum length, which is 15 in this pack's max_length. Every partial length is worked out from that number.[1][4]

Step 3: Switch between bridge and fence

You don't need a separate crafting chain for fences. The Laser Fence Source comes from a shapeless recipe, and there is a matching recipe that turns it back into a Laser Source. Both are changed by the pack, so check them below.[3]

Good to know early

  • Lasers can replace some blocks instead of being blocked by them. In this pack the list in blocks_cut_through_by_lasers covers air, cave air, void air, short grass, tall grass, fern, large fern and dead bush.[1][4]
  • You can color a laser source by clicking it with a dye, or by using a dispenser to apply the dye.[1]
  • There are also full block versions of the laser sources, which the mod's description recommends for more complicated redstone contraptions.[1][5]
Tip: Start with a short test: place a source, power it with a redstone signal, and watch how the laser length changes as you vary the signal strength.[1]

How does Laser Bridges & Doors work?

4 parts

The idea behind Laser Bridges & Doors is simple: you place a laser source, power it with redstone, and it projects a futuristic laser platform, door or fence. Everything else in this section is about what controls that laser.[1]

Redstone power and laser length

A laser only forms when its source block is activated by a redstone signal. The length of the laser depends on the signal strength and updates dynamically, so changing the signal changes the laser.[1]

A fully powered source gives the longest laser, and all the shorter lengths are calculated from that maximum. This pack sets max_length to 15.[1][4]

What a laser can replace

blocks_cut_through_by_lasers is the list of blocks that lasers are allowed to replace. In this pack it holds air, cave air, void air, short grass, tall grass, fern, large fern and dead bush.[1][4]

Source blocks

The mod has the Laser Source and the Laser Fence Source. Each also comes in a full block version, the Laser Source Block (Laser Source Block) and the Laser Fence Source Block (Laser Fence Source Block). Use the full block versions when you build more complicated redstone contraptions.[1][5]

You can color a laser source by clicking it with a dye in hand. A dispenser can apply the dye for you too.[1]

Crafting and converting sources

The pack has changed the Laser Source recipe and both conversion recipes, so go by the recipe blocks below and not by the mod's own description. The Laser Source recipe makes 2 sources per craft.[3]

You can also convert between the two source types in the crafting grid. The mod describes this conversion as working in both directions, and the pack has a recipe for each way.[1][3]

How do you progress through Laser Bridges & Doors?

2 parts

The sources for this pack show no tier ladder for Laser Bridges & Doors, so I won't invent a progression for you. What they do show are the crafting recipes for its source blocks, and the pack has changed every one of them from the mod's own version.[3]

Laser Source

The Laser Source is crafted with a shaped recipe that the pack has changed. The recipe block below shows the exact in-pack ingredients.[3]

Switching between source types

The pack also has shapeless recipes for converting between the bridge and fence versions. One gives you a Laser Fence Source and the other gives you a Laser Source, so you can swap after crafting. The pack has changed both of these too.[3]

Which Laser Bridges & Doors config options matter?

2 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

The mod has only two config options, both in config/laserbridges.json. You can change them in-game or by editing the JSON file directly. Here is what each one does and how this pack sets it.[1]

Maximum laser length

max_length is the longest laser a fully powered laser source block can produce. Shorter lasers are calculated from this value, so changing it rescales every bridge, door and fence. Laser length depends on the redstone signal strength, so a weaker signal gives a shorter laser.[1]

This pack sets it to 15, which is also the mod's default. The pack did not change this value, so a fully powered source reaches 15 blocks.[1][6]

Blocks lasers cut through

blocks_cut_through_by_lasers is the list of blocks a laser can replace instead of being stopped by them. Anything not on the list blocks the laser.[1]

In this pack the list contains these blocks:[6]

  • Air, cave air and void air, so lasers pass through empty space in any dimension or cave.[6]
  • Short grass and tall grass.[6]
  • Fern and large fern.[6]
  • Dead bush.[6]
Tip: If a bridge stops short on a grassy island, check whether the plant in its path is on this list. Anything not listed, such as a solid block, will block the laser.[1][6]

Unverified The sources do not show the mod's default for the cut-through list, so we can't say whether the pack changed it.

What changed in Laser Bridges & Doors between versions?

1 part

There isn't much history to tell for Laser Bridges & Doors in this pack. FTB Evolution 2 1.1.0 ships version 6.1 of the mod, and it has been in the pack since FTB Evolution 2 1.0.2 or earlier.[7]

Mod changelog: version 6.1

  • Version 6.1 fixed mip levels, with credit to seriousfreezing in the mod's changelog.[8]

That is the only change the mod's own changelog lists for 6.1, so there is nothing else to report for this version. The sources here include no pack changelog entries for this mod, so I can't tell you about any pack-specific changes to it between releases.[7][8]
