What is Waystones?
2 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
Waystones adds teleportation you can build into your base, your server hub or your adventure map. You place waystone blocks, activate them, and from then on you can return to them. You can hop from one waystone to another, or you can activate them with a Warp Scroll or a rechargeable Warp Stone.[1]
It works in Survival, in Adventure Maps and on Multiplayer Servers, where it can stand in for /warp and /home commands. If you play with friends, waystones can be made global so everyone can use them, which suits a community hub.[1]
What you get
- Craftable Waystones, Warp Plates and Warp Scrolls.[1]
- Teleporting from one waystone to another.[1]
- Global Waystones for community hubs or sharing with friends.[1]
- An optional teleport button in your inventory. It is configurable and lets you warp without any extra items.[1]
- A waystone structure that can generate in villages.[1]
In this pack
The pack ships Waystones 21.1.41, the NeoForge build for Minecraft 1.21.1. It has been included since an early pack release (2.25 or earlier).[2]
The mod needs Balm installed alongside it. Its page says Shogi is only required on Minecraft 26.1 and above, so it does not apply to this 1.21.1 build.[1][2]
Unverified Where Waystones fits in the pack's progression is not confirmed. No quests or ATM Star path steps involving the mod were found, and there is no in-jar guidebook. Treat it as a standalone travel tool you can pick up whenever you like.
How do you get started with Waystones?
4 parts
Same as in the All the Mods - Gravitas 4.0 guide
Waystones lets you set up teleport points and hop between them. A waystone block is something you can return to once you've activated it, either with a Warp Scroll, with a rechargeable Warp Stone, or by using an existing waystone to jump over. Here's the order I'd tackle things in.[1]
First, make a Warp Stone
Start with the Warp Stone. It's the rechargeable item that can activate waystones, and it's also an ingredient in the waystone blocks that come next, so it's the first thing to craft.[1][3]

Next, craft your first Waystone
Now make a Waystone and place it at your base. Having a waystone is also the task of the quest a quest in "?" in the Getting Started chapter of the quest book, so you tick that off along the way.[3][4]

The pack changed this recipe too.
If you like a different look, there's a Mossy Waystone and a Sandy Waystone, each with its own recipe. You can also turn an existing waystone into the mossy version.[3]
Then grab a Warp Scroll for trips
A Warp Scroll is the mod's craftable scroll option for warping, and it can activate a waystone too.[1]

Finally, expand your network
Once you have a waystone set up, a Sharestone is the next thing to look at. It teleports you to any other colorless Sharestone.[5]

The pack changed this recipe as well.
The dyed versions, like the Red Sharestone and Blue Sharestone, each teleport you to any other Sharestone of the same color. That lets you keep separate networks apart.[5]
The Portstone can't be teleported to. The Warp Plate works with attuned shards: you insert a shard into a warp plate, and you can bring it to another plate too.[3][5]

How does Waystones work?
6 parts
Same as in the All the Mods - Gravitas 4.0 guide
Waystones is a teleportation mod. What matters is how you activate waystones, how you travel between them, and which rules the pack puts on that travel. This section covers all of it as far as the sources show.[1]
Activating and travelling
A waystone is something you can return to once you've activated it. You activate one with a Warp Scroll, a rechargeable Warp Stone, or by using an existing waystone to hop over to another one. Waystones can also be made global so every player can use them, which suits community hubs or sharing with friends.[1]
In this pack, restrictions.allowWaystoneToWaystoneTeleport is on. That means you can teleport between waystones just by right-clicking one.[6]
There is also an optional inventory button that lets you warp without carrying any items. The inventoryButton.inventoryButton option can be NONE, NEAREST (teleports to the nearest waystone), ANY (opens the waystone selection menu) or a specific waystone name. The pack's config file has this value blank.[1][6]
Use times and cooldowns
Scrolls and the warp stone are charged by holding right-click. This pack sets cooldowns.scrollUseTime and cooldowns.warpStoneUseTime to 32 ticks each.[6]
The Warp Plate works differently. You stand on top of it, and cooldowns.warpPlateUseTime is 20 ticks in this pack.[3][6]
The warp stone has a 300-second cooldown in this pack (cooldowns.warpStoneCooldown). That cooldown is bound to the player, not the item, so carrying several warp stones won't get around it. The inventory button has its own 300-second cooldown (cooldowns.inventoryButtonCooldown).[6]
Teleporting to a global waystone with the inventory button or the warp stone applies a cooldown multiplier, cooldowns.globalWaystoneCooldownMultiplier. It is 1 in this pack, so it doesn't change the base cooldown.[6]
Items can show a remaining cooldown in seconds in their tooltip. There is also a tooltip message for when you don't have enough experience levels for a teleport.[5]
Sharestones, Portstones and Warp Plates
A Sharestone teleports you to any other sharestone of the same colour. The plain one links to other colourless sharestones, and each dyed version, such as the Red Sharestone or Blue Sharestone, links to its own colour. The Portstone is the odd one out, because it can't be teleported to.[3][5]
Dyeing is a shapeless craft of a sharestone plus a dye of the matching colour. Bone meal plus a dyed sharestone turns it back into a colourless one.[3]

Attuned shards go with warp plates. The tooltips tell you to insert a shard into a warp plate, and to bring it to another warp plate. A shard can also lose its attunement.[5]
Pack-changed recipes
The pack changes the recipes for the waystone, warp stone, sharestone, portstone and warp plate. Don't rely on the mod's default recipes for these. The waystone, sharestone and portstone recipes each use a warp stone, so that is the one to get first.[3]

Dimensions, mobs and permissions
Cross-dimension warping is allowed in this pack (restrictions.dimensionalWarp is set to ALLOW). The allow list, restrictions.dimensionalWarpAllowList, contains the Overworld and the Nether. The deny list is empty.[6]
Leashed mobs travel with you, including between dimensions. The only entry in the pack's leashed deny list is the Wither.[6]
Making a waystone global for all players requires creative mode in this pack (restrictions.globalWaystoneSetupRequiresCreativeMode). Survival players can still place, edit and break ordinary waystones, because restrictions.restrictToCreative is off. Renaming isn't limited to the owner either.[6]
World generation
Waystones can generate in the Overworld, the Nether and the End. worldGen.frequency is 25, the approximate chunk distance between freely generated waystones, and setting it to 0 would turn generation off. They are also added to villages, though some villages may still spawn without one. The style depends on the biome, so you'll see different variants such as mossy and sandy ones depending on where they spawn.[6]
Names come from the preset list first (worldGen.nameGenerationMode is PRESET_FIRST), but the custom name list is empty in this pack. Generated waystones can be broken, since restrictions.generatedWaystonesUnbreakable is off.[6]
If you use JourneyMap, activated waystones get waypoints created for them. The pack is set so that this is skipped if the separate JourneyMap Integration mod is installed.[6]
How do you progress through Waystones?
5 parts
Same as in the All the Mods - Gravitas 4.0 guide
Waystones progression in this pack is short, and it mostly flows from one item: the Warp Stone. The Waystone, Mossy Waystone, Sandy Waystone, Sharestone and Portstone recipes all use it, so getting it early opens up most of the mod.[3]
Stage 1: Warp Stone
The pack changed the Warp Stone recipe, so don't rely on what you remember from the mod's defaults. Check the recipe below.[3]

Stage 2: The Waystone and its quest
The Waystone is the core block of the mod. In the pack's quest book, a quest in "?" (Getting Around) sits in the Getting Started chapter and asks you to obtain one. It unlocks after an earlier quest in that chapter. The pack also changed the Waystone recipe.[3][4]

There are also decorative variants. The Mossy Waystone has its own recipe, and you can convert an existing Waystone into one. The Sandy Waystone has its own recipe too. These are mod recipes the pack left unchanged.[3]

Next: Sharestones, Portstones and Warp Plates
Once you can make Warp Stones, you can branch out. The pack changed the recipes for the Sharestone, the Portstone and the Warp Plate.[3]

The Warp Plate uses Warp Dust rather than a Warp Stone. Warp Dust is a separate mod recipe that the pack did not change.[3]
Dyeing Sharestones
Sharestones can be dyed, and every color has its own shapeless recipe, for example Red Sharestone, Blue Sharestone and White Sharestone. These are unchanged mod recipes. A dyed Sharestone can be turned back into the plain one with the clear recipe shown below.[3]

How does Waystones work with other mods?
The clearest link between Waystones and another mod in this pack is the Warp Stone recipe. The pack changed it, and the new version uses an item from the tfc namespace alongside a vanilla item and a dye tag in the balm namespace. So the rechargeable Warp Stone depends on content from outside Waystones in this pack.[7]
Crafting Shaped
| any purple dye | any purple dye | |
| any purple dye | any purple dye |
Recipe id: waystones:warp_stone
This is the pack's changed recipe, not the mod default.
Balm is also a hard requirement for Waystones itself, so it has to be installed alongside the mod.[1]
Which Waystones config options matter?
5 parts
Same as in the All the Mods - Gravitas 4.0 guide
Everything below lives in one file, config/waystones-common.toml. These are the values this pack ships with, so if you tweak anything, start from here.[6]
Unverified The pack file only shows the values this pack uses, not the mod's own defaults. I can't confirm which of these settings the pack changed from default, so none of them are labelled as changes.
XP costs
Distance-based XP is effectively switched off here. xpCost.maximumBaseXpCost is 0, and the file notes that 0 disables all distance-based XP costs. xpCost.blocksPerXpLevel is set to 1,000 for reference.[6]
- xpCost.dimensionalWarpXpCost is 3 levels. The file says this base cost ignores block distance.[6]
- xpCost.waystoneXpCostMultiplier, xpCost.sharestoneXpCostMultiplier and xpCost.globalWaystoneXpCostMultiplier are all 1.[6]
- xpCost.inventoryButtonXpCostMultiplier, xpCost.portstoneXpCostMultiplier, xpCost.warpPlateXpCostMultiplier and xpCost.warpStoneXpCostMultiplier are all 0.[6]
- xpCost.xpCostPerLeashed is 1, which is the XP needed per leashed animal travelling with you.[6]
Cooldowns and use times
- cooldowns.warpStoneCooldown is 300 seconds. It is bound to the player, so multiple warp stones share the same cooldown.[6]
- cooldowns.inventoryButtonCooldown is also 300 seconds.[6]
- cooldowns.scrollUseTime and cooldowns.warpStoneUseTime are both 32 ticks of charge-up while holding right-click.[6]
- cooldowns.warpPlateUseTime is 20 ticks, which is how long you stand on a warp plate.[6]
- cooldowns.globalWaystoneCooldownMultiplier is 1.[6]
Restrictions and dimensions
- restrictions.dimensionalWarp is ALLOW, but restrictions.dimensionalWarpAllowList holds only the Overworld and the Nether. The file says this list covers dimensions you can warp cross-dimension from and to, so the End is not on it.[6]
- restrictions.allowWaystoneToWaystoneTeleport is true, so right-clicking a waystone lets you hop to another one.[6]
- restrictions.globalWaystoneSetupRequiresCreativeMode is true, so only creative players can make a waystone global for everyone.[6]
- restrictions.restrictToCreative and restrictions.restrictRenameToOwner are both false, so survival players can place, edit and break waystones, and anyone can rename them.[6]
- Leashed mobs travel with you, including between dimensions, because restrictions.transportLeashed and restrictions.transportLeashedDimensional are true. The only mob on restrictions.leashedDenyList is the wither.[6]
World generation
- worldGen.frequency is 25, the approximate chunk distance between freely generated waystones.[6]
- worldGen.spawnInVillages is true, while worldGen.forceSpawnInVillages is false. The file notes that some villages may still spawn without a waystone.[6]
- worldGen.worldGenStyle is BIOME, so the waystone's look depends on the biome it generates in.[6]
- worldGen.dimensionAllowList includes the Overworld, the Nether and the End.[6]
- restrictions.generatedWaystonesUnbreakable is false, so generated waystones can be broken.[6]
Inventory button and JourneyMap
inventoryButton.inventoryButton is an empty string in this pack. The file documents NONE, NEAREST, ANY or a waystone name, but it doesn't say what an empty value does, so I can't tell you which behavior you get.[6]
For maps, compatibility.displayWaystonesOnJourneyMap and compatibility.preferJourneyMapIntegration are both true. The second one means waystone waypoints are only created if the mod 'JourneyMap Integration' is not installed.[6]
What changed in Waystones between versions?
1 part
Waystones has been in the pack since All the Mods - Gravitas 1.1 or earlier. In Gravitas 3.6b you get Waystones 10.1.0, built for Minecraft 1.18.2 on Forge.[8]
Waystones 10.1.1 fixes
The mod's own changelog for the next release, 10.1.1, lists two fixes. Since this pack ships 10.1.0, these fixes are not part of the version you are playing.[8][9]
- A Warp Dust dupe bug was fixed.[9]
- Sheets were being classloaded too early, which stopped banner patterns from other mods from working. That was fixed too.[9]
Unverified I have no pack changelog entries for Waystones, so I can't say whether any Gravitas release changed its recipes or config values.
