What is Waystones?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Waystones adds teleportation you can build into your base, your server hub or your adventure map. You place waystone blocks, activate them, and from then on you can return to them. You can hop from one waystone to another, or you can activate them with a Warp Scroll or a rechargeable Warp Stone.[1]

It works in Survival, in Adventure Maps and on Multiplayer Servers, where it can stand in for /warp and /home commands. If you play with friends, waystones can be made global so everyone can use them, which suits a community hub.[1]

What you get

  • Craftable Waystones, Warp Plates and Warp Scrolls.[1]
  • Teleporting from one waystone to another.[1]
  • Global Waystones for community hubs or sharing with friends.[1]
  • An optional teleport button in your inventory. It is configurable and lets you warp without any extra items.[1]
  • A waystone structure that can generate in villages.[1]

In this pack

The pack ships Waystones 21.1.41, the NeoForge build for Minecraft 1.21.1. It has been included since an early pack release (2.25 or earlier).[2]

The mod needs Balm installed alongside it. Its page says Shogi is only required on Minecraft 26.1 and above, so it does not apply to this 1.21.1 build.[1][2]

Unverified Where Waystones fits in the pack's progression is not confirmed. No quests or ATM Star path steps involving the mod were found, and there is no in-jar guidebook. Treat it as a standalone travel tool you can pick up whenever you like.

How do you get started with Waystones?

4 parts

Same as in the All the Mods - Gravitas 4.0 guide

Waystones lets you set up teleport points and hop between them. A waystone block is something you can return to once you've activated it, either with a Warp Scroll, with a rechargeable Warp Stone, or by using an existing waystone to jump over. Here's the order I'd tackle things in.[1]

Watch out: The pack has changed several of these recipes from the mod's defaults: Warp Stone, Waystone, Sharestone, Portstone and Warp Plate. Go by the recipe blocks below, not by what you remember from other modpacks. The Warp Scroll recipe is the mod's own.[3]

First, make a Warp Stone

Start with the Warp Stone. It's the rechargeable item that can activate waystones, and it's also an ingredient in the waystone blocks that come next, so it's the first thing to craft.[1][3]

Next, craft your first Waystone

Now make a Waystone and place it at your base. Having a waystone is also the task of the quest a quest in "?" in the Getting Started chapter of the quest book, so you tick that off along the way.[3][4]

If you like a different look, there's a Mossy Waystone and a Sandy Waystone, each with its own recipe. You can also turn an existing waystone into the mossy version.[3]

Then grab a Warp Scroll for trips

A Warp Scroll is the mod's craftable scroll option for warping, and it can activate a waystone too.[1]

Finally, expand your network

Once you have a waystone set up, a Sharestone is the next thing to look at. It teleports you to any other colorless Sharestone.[5]

The dyed versions, like the Red Sharestone and Blue Sharestone, each teleport you to any other Sharestone of the same color. That lets you keep separate networks apart.[5]

The Portstone can't be teleported to. The Warp Plate works with attuned shards: you insert a shard into a warp plate, and you can bring it to another plate too.[3][5]

How does Waystones work?

5 parts

Waystones is a teleport mod, so there are no machines, power or fluids to wire up here. The core mechanic is simple: you activate a waystone once, and after that you can come back to it. You activate it with a Warp Scroll, with a rechargeable Warp Stone, or by hopping from an existing waystone.[1]

The mod is meant as an alternative to /warp and /home commands. Waystones can be made global for all players, and a configurable inventory button can let you warp without carrying any extra items.[1]

Sharestones: colour-matched teleporting

Sharestones link by colour. The plain Sharestone teleports you to any other colourless Sharestone, and each dyed version works the same way with its own colour. For example, a Red Sharestone sends you to any other Red Sharestone.[6]

Each dyed Sharestone has its own shapeless recipe, and there is a separate recipe that turns a dyed Sharestone back into a colourless one. Here are the plain Sharestone and the colour-stripping recipe.[7]

Portstones and Warp Plates

The Portstone is one-way: its tooltip says it can not be teleported to. The pack changed its recipe.[6][7]

The Warp Plate works with attuned shards. A shard's tooltip tells you to insert it into a warp plate, and later to bring it to another warp plate. If a shard loses its attunement, the tooltip says so. The pack changed the Warp Plate recipe as well.[6][7]

Pack rules: dimensions and XP

The pack sets restrictions.dimensionalWarpAllowList to the Overworld and the Nether. That list controls which dimensions you can warp from and to across dimensions. In this pack, only the Overworld and the Nether are listed.[8]

The pack sets xpCost.maximumBaseXpCost to 0. According to the config comment, this disables all distance-based XP costs.[8]

Tip: Tooltips can show a cooldown in seconds, and the mod has a "Not enough experience" message that tells you how many levels you need. Check the tooltip if a teleport doesn't fire.[6]

How do you progress through Waystones?

5 parts

Same as in the All the Mods - Gravitas 4.0 guide

Waystones progression in this pack is short, and it mostly flows from one item: the Warp Stone. The Waystone, Mossy Waystone, Sandy Waystone, Sharestone and Portstone recipes all use it, so getting it early opens up most of the mod.[3]

Stage 1: Warp Stone

The pack changed the Warp Stone recipe, so don't rely on what you remember from the mod's defaults. Check the recipe below.[3]

Stage 2: The Waystone and its quest

The Waystone is the core block of the mod. In the pack's quest book, a quest in "?" (Getting Around) sits in the Getting Started chapter and asks you to obtain one. It unlocks after an earlier quest in that chapter. The pack also changed the Waystone recipe.[3][4]

How does Waystones work with other mods?

Same as in the All the Mods - Gravitas 3.6b guide

The clearest link between Waystones and another mod in this pack is the Warp Stone recipe. The pack changed it, and the new version uses an item from the tfc namespace alongside a vanilla item and a dye tag in the balm namespace. So the rechargeable Warp Stone depends on content from outside Waystones in this pack.[9]

Balm is also a hard requirement for Waystones itself, so it has to be installed alongside the mod.[1]

Which Waystones config options matter?

2 parts

This section is short because the sources I have for this pack only cover a small part of the Waystones config. The options below are both in the common config file, and both are worth knowing if you plan to build a travel network.[8]

Cross-dimension travel

restrictions.dimensionalWarpAllowList controls which dimensions you can warp between. This pack sets it to the Overworld (minecraft:overworld) and the Nether (minecraft:the_nether). The option's description says it lists the dimensions players may warp cross-dimension from and to, so those are the dimensions this pack names. The End is not on the list.[8]

The option's description also says that if the list is left empty, all dimensions except those in the deny list are allowed. This pack does not leave it empty.[8]

XP cost for warping

xpCost.maximumBaseXpCost is set to 0 in this pack. According to the option's description, setting it to 0 disables all distance-based XP costs. So in this pack, how far you warp doesn't add to the XP cost.[8]

Tip: The description says multipliers defined elsewhere in the config can exceed the base cost. I don't have those values for this pack, so don't assume every warp is free of other costs.[8]

What changed in Waystones between versions?

1 part

All the Mods - Gravitas 3.5 ships Waystones 10.1.0 (the Forge 1.18.2 build). Waystones has been in the pack since Gravitas 1.1 or earlier, so it's a long-standing part of the modpack.[10]

I don't have any pack changelog entries for Waystones, so I can't tell you how the mod changed from one Gravitas release to the next.[10]

Fixes in the next mod release

The Waystones 10.1.1 changelog lists two fixes. Because the pack includes 10.1.0, these come from a release newer than the one in Gravitas 3.5, so don't assume they apply to your game:[10][11]

  • A Warp Dust duplication bug was fixed.[11]
  • Premature classloading of Sheets was fixed. It caused banner patterns from other mods to stop working.[11]
Watch out: The 10.1.1 fixes are not part of the Waystones version in this pack (10.1.0). The Warp Dust dupe fix in particular is listed under 10.1.1, so check before relying on that behavior in your world.[10][11]
