What is Refined Types?

Refined Types is an addon for Refined Storage. It adds support for FE, Source and Souls in various Refined Storage components, so you can store them, transfer them, view them and autocraft with them.[1]

In this pack
The pack ships Refined Types 26.1.2-1.0.0. It has been in the pack since version 0.2.1 or earlier.[2]
Unverified The quest sources available here do not show a chapter, group or position for Refined Types in the pack's quest book, and they do not show whether the ATM Star path uses it. Check the quest book in game for any placement.
How do you get started with Refined Types?

Refined Types is a Refined Storage addon. It lets your storage network handle FE, Source from Ars Nouveau and Souls from Industrial Foregoing Souls. In this pack, the recipes I can confirm are all for the energy side, so that's where you start.[1][3]
First, make your energy storage part
Everything begins with the lowest tier, the 64K Energy Storage Part. The pack adds its own crafting recipe for it, so check this one rather than any recipe you remember from the mod's defaults.[3]

The part matters beyond this first craft. Disks and blocks can be upgraded to a higher tier by combining them with a part, and an empty one gives its part back when you use it while holding it.[4]
Next, craft an energy storage disk
Next, make the 64K Energy Storage Disk. The mod's own advancement for this stage asks you to craft an Energy Storage Disk and put it in your Disk Drive, which is exactly what you want to do. The disk stores FE for your Refined Storage network.[3][4]

Then add the Network Energizer
The Network Energizer automatically consumes stored energy from Energy Disks in your network to keep the network running. Craft it once you have a disk with some FE in it.[3][4]

Scale up when you need to
The mod has a chain of higher tiers, from 256K up through 8388608K, each with its own part, disk and block. The pack has its own recipe for each tier, and you can pull them up one at a time as you need more room. A good next step is the 256K Energy Storage Disk.[3]

Prefer a block over a disk? Blocks work the same way, and an empty one returns its Energy Storage Part and Machine Casing when you use it while holding it. The 64K Energy Storage Block is the entry point.[3][4]

The endgame: infinite energy storage
The pack adds Infinite Energy Storage items that store an infinite amount of FE: the Infinite Energy Storage Part, the Infinite Energy Storage Disk and the Infinite Energy Storage Block. The pack has its own recipe for each, shown below, so save these for later.[3][4]

How does Refined Types work?
5 parts
Refined Types is an addon for Refined Storage that lets Refined Storage components handle more than items and fluids. It adds support for FE, Source (from Ars Nouveau) and Souls (from Industrial Foregoing Souls), covering storage, transfer, viewing and autocrafting. Mana support from Botania is listed as planned, not as something that is in yet.[1]
Resource types
- Energy: storage blocks and disks run from 64K, 256K, 1024K, 8192K, 65536K, 262144K, 1048576K and 8388608K up to Infinite, plus a Creative version. The energy disks are grouped together in an energy_storage_disks item tag.[4][5]
- Source: storage blocks run from 64B, 256B, 1024B, 8192B, 65536B, 262144B, 1048576B and 8388608B up to Infinite, plus a Creative version.[4]
- Souls: storage blocks run from 1K, 8K, 64K, 512K, 4096K, 32768K, 262144K and 2097152K up to Infinite, plus a Creative version.[4]
Each tier comes as a part, a disk and a block. The part is the crafting component. In the pack's recipes the disk and the block of an energy tier are both made from the part of the same tier.[4][6]
Disks and blocks
Disks work like the disks you already know from Refined Storage. The mod's own advancements tell you to craft a storage disk (Energy, Soul or Source) and put it in your Disk Drive.[4]
The storage blocks are placed in the world. When you break an energy storage block, from 64K through 8388608K and the Creative one, it drops itself and keeps any custom name you gave it.[7][8][9][10][11][12][13][14][15]
Unverified The mod has energy usage options for each Energy Storage Block, and matching source usage options for the Source Storage Blocks. The sources here only show the option names, not their values, so what each block uses in this pack is unverified.
Crafting the energy tiers in this pack
The pack removes the mod's own recipes for the energy parts, disks and blocks, and for the Network Energizer, and replaces them with its own scripted recipes using Energized Power and Refined Storage components. Only the energy tiers are changed by that script. It does not touch the Source and Soul recipes.[6][16]
The ladder starts with the 64K Energy Storage Part, which has its own recipe. After that each part is crafted from the part below it.[6]

Each part upgrade uses the part from the tier below.
The upgrade steps are 64K to 256K, 256K to 1024K, 1024K to 8192K and 8192K to 65536K. From 65536K the ladder branches: both the 262144K part and the 1048576K part are crafted from a 65536K part, and the 8388608K part is crafted from a 1048576K part.[6]
Disk and block recipes follow the same pattern for every tier. Up to 8192K they use the advanced tier of Energized Power parts. From 65536K up they switch to the reinforced advanced tier. The part upgrades move from advanced circuits to processing units at the 8192K to 65536K step.[6]

The Infinite tier
The Infinite energy part, disk and block are not crafted at a bench in this pack. They are made with an Occultism ritual using the meteoric infusion pentacle, and each of these rituals has a duration of 20. The rituals use Cable Tiers and Energized Power components alongside the 8388608K parts, and the disk and block rituals use Infinite parts.[6][16]

Network Energizer
The Network Energizer is a block with a redstone mode setting. Its in-game help text says that when the device is inactive, no energy from Energy Disks will be consumed by the storage network to sustain it. So you can switch it off with redstone to stop that drain. The pack also has its own scripted recipe for it in place of the mod's default.[4][6]
How do you progress through Refined Types?
4 parts
Refined Types adds energy storage tiers in the pack. Each tier comes as a block, a disk and a part. The tiers are named after a number followed by K, and the pack adds a crafting recipe for every one of them except the top tier. Infinite is made differently, so keep reading for that.[16]
The tier ladder
Going by the numbers in the item names, the crafted tiers climb in this order. The sources here do not give the energy capacity of any tier, so use the name as your guide to which one is bigger.[16]

The Infinite tier
The top of the ladder does not use a crafting grid. The Infinite Energy Storage Part, Infinite Energy Storage Disk and Infinite Energy Storage Block are each made with an Occultism ritual, the meteoric infusion, and the pack adds these ritual recipes.[16]

The place where this pack ties Refined Types to another mod through recipes is Occultism. The pack adds Occultism ritual recipes that use the meteoric infusion ritual (Meteoric Infusion). Each of them produces an infinite energy storage item from Refined Types: the block, the disk and the part.[16]

What changed in Refined Types between versions?

Refined Types has been in All the Mods 11 since 0.2.1 or earlier, and 0.10.0-beta ships version 26.1.2-1.0.0 of it.[2]
26.1.2-1.0.0
- This release is the 26.1.2 port of the mod.[18]
- Ars Nouveau and Industrial Foregoing Souls support was removed, because those mods aren't ported yet.[18]
That is the only changelog entry the sources here give for the mod. The pack changelogs have no entries for it, so there is nothing more to say about how it changed between pack releases.[2][18]
