What is Refined Types?
2 parts
Refined Types is a Refined Storage addon. It adds support for FE, Source and Souls in various Refined Storage components, so you can store, transfer, view and autocraft them like any other resource.[1]
Supported resource types
- FE (energy).[1]
- Source, from Ars Nouveau.[1]
- Souls, from Industrial Foregoing Souls.[1]
- Mana from Botania is listed on the project page as planned, so don't count on it being there.[1]
In this pack
The pack ships Refined Types 26.1.2-1.0.0. It has been in the pack since 0.2.1 or earlier.[2]
Unverified The sources here do not show where the pack's quest book places this mod, so its chapter, group, neighbouring quests and any link to the ATM Star path are not confirmed. Check the pack's quest book itself for that.
How do you get started with Refined Types?
4 parts
Refined Types is a Refined Storage addon. It lets your storage network hold FE, plus Source from Ars Nouveau and Souls from Industrial Foregoing Souls. The recipes this pack has for the mod cover the Energy side, so that's where we start.[1][3]
First, make an Energy Storage Part and Disk
Begin with the smallest tier, 64K. The 64K Energy Storage Part matters because you combine a part with a disk or block to upgrade it to a higher tier. When a disk is empty, using it while holding it also gives the part back.[3][4]

There is also a shapeless recipe that makes the same disk from a storage housing. Check it below if you already have a housing.[3]

Next, put the disk in a Disk Drive
Once you've crafted the disk, put it in your Disk Drive. The mod's own advancement asks for exactly this, so it's the intended first goal. Your network can then store FE.[1][4]
Then add the Network Energizer
The Network Energizer automatically consumes stored energy from Energy Disks in your network to maintain it. That makes your first energy disk useful right away. It also has a redstone mode: when the device is inactive, the network doesn't consume any energy from Energy Disks to sustain it.[3][4]

Finally, upgrade when you need more room
When the 64K tier fills up, you don't have to start over. Energy disks and blocks can be upgraded by combining them with an Energy Storage Part. The upgrade recipes use Refined Storage's storage container upgrade recipe type, and each tier has its own, for example the next one up, 256K Energy Storage Disk.[3][4]

How does Refined Types work?
5 parts
Refined Types is an addon for Refined Storage. It teaches Refined Storage's components to handle FE, Source from Ars Nouveau and Souls from Industrial Foregoing Souls, covering storage, transfer, viewing and autocrafting. Mana from Botania is listed as planned, so don't count on it.[1]
Storage disks and storage blocks
The core idea is simple: you craft a disk for the resource you want to store and put it in your Disk Drive. The mod's advancements say exactly that for Energy, Soul and Source disks.[4]
Each resource has a disk form and a block form. Energy disks start at 64K Energy Storage Disk and go up through 256K Energy Storage Disk, 1024K Energy Storage Disk, 8192K Energy Storage Disk, 65536K Energy Storage Disk and 262144K Energy Storage Disk to 1048576K Energy Storage Disk and 8388608K Energy Storage Disk. The energy blocks use the same tier names, for example 64K Energy Storage Block and 8388608K Energy Storage Block.[3]
Soul and Source storage follow the same disk and block pattern. The Source storage blocks have their own tier names, which end in B instead of K.[4]
Parts and upgrading
Every energy tier has a matching storage part, such as 64K Energy Storage Part, and the pack has a crafting recipe for each one.[3]

Disks also have a shapeless recipe named "from storage housing", as an alternative to the shaped recipe. The block versions have their own shaped recipes.[3]

To move up a tier, combine the disk or block with a storage part of the resource it stores. When a disk is empty, using it while holding it returns its storage part. An empty storage block returns both the storage part and a Machine Casing.[4]
Powering the network with the Network Energizer
The Network Energizer automatically consumes stored Energy from Energy Disks within the network to maintain it. In other words, your FE disks can pay for the network's upkeep.[4]
It has a redstone mode. While the device is inactive, the storage network does not consume any Energy from Energy Disks to sustain it, so redstone works as a simple on/off switch for that drain.[4]
Souls and exporters
If you export Souls into a connected soul pipe, the exporter can dump all of your souls into it. The mod's own tip is to add a Regulator Upgrade to the exporter to prevent that.[4]
Creative and infinite variants
The mod includes infinite storage disks and blocks for FE, Soul and Source, which store an infinite amount. It also has creative disks and blocks for each of those resources, which come with an infinite amount already stored.[4]
Unverified The mod's text describes usage options for the Energy Storage Blocks and Source Storage Blocks, one per tier plus the infinite block, but the sources here do not show their values, the exact capacity of each tier, or whether the pack changed any of them. The pack has no config files for this mod to check.
How do you progress through Refined Types?
4 parts
Refined Types adds energy storage parts, disks and blocks in a ladder of tiers, and in this pack you climb it by crafting. Here is what the in-pack recipes show.[3]
The tier ladder
Going by the item names, the tiers run 64K, 256K, 1024K, 8192K, 65536K, 262144K, 1048576K and 8388608K, with an Infinite tier on top. Each numbered tier has a part, a disk and a block. The lowest tier, for example, gives you 64K Energy Storage Part, 64K Energy Storage Disk and 64K Energy Storage Block.[3]
The top of the ladder is the Infinite Energy Storage Disk and the Infinite Energy Storage Block. The recipe dump lists no Infinite part and no Infinite upgrade recipe, so the disk and the block are the only Infinite items with recipes.[3]
Ways to get each tier
- Parts, disks and blocks each have their own shaped crafting recipe at every numbered tier. The Infinite disk and block have one too.[3]
- Every disk tier, Infinite included, also has a shapeless recipe whose id says it starts from a storage housing.[3]
- Disks and blocks at each numbered tier also have an upgrade recipe, using the Refined Storage storage container upgrade recipe type.[3]

What changed in Refined Types between versions?
1 part
All the Mods 11 0.2.1 ships Refined Types 26.1.2-1.0.0, using the file refined-types-26.1.2-1.0.0.jar. The pack's mod list says it was first included in 0.2.1 or an earlier release.[2]
Refined Types 26.1.2-1.0.0
- This is the 26.1.2 port of the mod.[5]
- Support for Ars Nouveau and Industrial Foregoing Souls was removed, because those mods aren't ported yet. If you were hoping for those integrations, they are not part of this version.[5]
Unverified No pack changelog entries for Refined Types are available, so any pack-level changes to this mod in earlier releases are unverified.
