What is IceAndFire Community Edition?

1 part

Same as in the All the Mods 11 0.8.0-beta guide

IceAndFire Community Edition is an unofficial fork of the original Ice and Fire mod. It adds optimizations, new content and rewrites. The pack ships it as an alpha build, and that is the version this guide describes.[1][2]

It carries over everything from the original mod except the myrmex series, and it adds netherite-related things on top.[1]

The mod's in-game guide book opens with a tattered note stuck behind the cover. It says the book holds manuscripts on designing supernatural tools and a guide to tracking down wondrous creatures, and that it is offered to anyone willing to explore those mysteries.[3]

Good to know

  • Don't swap this mod in directly for the original Ice and Fire, or your saves will be corrupted. The fork's authors also ask you not to report its issues to the original mod.[1]
  • You may not find a config file. The config system only saves the data it needs, so you change settings through the in-game client GUI via Mod Menu, and that needs server operator permission.[1]
  • Biome settings are changed by editing biome tags with datapacks.[1]

Unverified Whether the pack's quest book has any chapter, group or quest that involves this mod, and whether the ATM Star path uses it, is not shown by the sources here. Check the quest book itself for details.

How do you get started with IceAndFire Community Edition?

4 parts

IceAndFire Community Edition has its own advancement tree, and it makes a handy checklist for your first steps. The root advancement is "Enter a world of magical creatures", and the rest walks you from reading about dragons to forging with their blood.[4]

Step 1: Start your bestiary

The mod's advancements say you create a bestiary using 3 manuscripts found in dungeons. Once you have one, a Bestiary Lectern lets you learn more about the world of Ice and Fire. The in-game guide opens with a worn note on the inside cover. It says the book records supernatural tool designs and a guide to seeking out magical creatures, left for anyone willing to explore.[4][5]

Step 2: Find a dragon den

Dragonsteel starts with dragon blood, so you need a dragon. In this pack the cave chances are 0.4 for fire, 0.4 for lightning and 0.3 for ice. Roosts are rarer, at 0.18 for each type. The pack also leaves dragon blood drops switched on.[6]

Watch out: Wild dragons are no joke in this pack: their max health is set to 2,500, and dragon griefing is on. Prepare before you go poking around a den.[6]

Step 3: Make dragonsteel

The advancements describe dragonsteel as an ingot made from dragon blood and iron, and they also ask you to create a dragon forge brick and a dragon forge core. Here are the mod's own forge recipes for the fire, ice and lightning ingots.[4]

        Pack-added shortcuts

The pack adds extra routes of its own. With Hephaestus Forge you can cast any of the three ingots from 90 units of the matching molten dragonsteel, and a block takes 810 units in a casting basin.[7]

How does IceAndFire Community Edition work?

          4 parts

Ice and Fire is less about machines and more about creatures, but it has one real multiblock: the dragon forge. This section covers that, the dragonsteel routes this pack offers, and the dragon settings the pack has chosen. The sources here do not show the forge's exact layout or how its items and fluids are piped, so check the in-game bestiary for that.[4][6][7]

          The dragon forge

The forge comes in three elements: fire, ice and lightning. Each has its own Dragonforge Brick, Dragonforge Core and Dragonforge Aperture (the input block). The core also has a disabled version, which suggests it switches state when the forge is not active.[4]

The mod's advancements treat the brick and the core as separate crafting milestones: "Create a dragon forge brick" and "Create a dragon forge core". There is also a Dragon Forge Speed attribute in the language file, so forge speed is something that can be modified.[4]

The forge has its own recipe type, iceandfire:dragonforge. This pack contains 6 recipes of that type, each with a different result.[7]

          Making dragonsteel

The mod's advancement describes dragonsteel as an ingot made from dragon blood and iron. The two dragon forge recipes below turn out the fire and ice versions.[4][7]

The pack also gives you machine routes that skip the forge. Hephaestus Forge can cast both ingots from molten dragonsteel: 90 units of Molten Fire Dragonsteel or Molten Ice Dragonsteel make one ingot on a casting table, and 810 units make a full block on a casting basin. These recipes were added by the pack.[7]

The pack adds alloy smelting recipes for both dragonsteel ingots in three tech mods: Ender IO, Energized Power and FTB Industrial Contraptions. They are listed here for the fire ingot, and each mod has a matching ice recipe.[7]

                    Taming and handling creatures

Most creature mechanics are hands-on, and the mod's advancement text gives the key triggers. You tame a hippogryph by dropping rabbit feet near it, a hippocampus by feeding it kelp, and a pixie by dropping cake near it. A cockatrice can be tamed from an egg or by staring at it repeatedly. For an amphithere, you shoot it down and ride it.[4]

The pack sets the amphithere tame time to 400 via amphithere.tameTime.[6]

For dragons, the mod provides a few control items. The dragon flute stops runaway dragons, the dragon horn stores dragons, and the dragon command staff lets you control them. Dragon Meal rapidly grows baby dragons. You can also trap a pixie in a jar to farm its dust.[4]

                    Dragon settings in this pack

These are the pack's values in the common config, so they are what you will actually see in play.[6]

Tip: Dragonsteel gear is tuned by config too. The pack sets armors.dragonSteelBaseDurability to 8,000 and armors.dragonSteelBaseDamage to 14. Dragonsteel weapons apply fire for 15 (tools.dragonsteelFireDuration) or a frozen effect for 300 (tools.dragonsteelFrozenDuration).[6]

How do you progress through IceAndFire Community Edition?

                    5 parts

This page walks through IceAndFire Community Edition gear by how each piece is made, using the pack's recipe list. Here is what the recipes show.[7]

                    Copper gear

The plainest armor in the list is the metal set: iceandfire:armor_copper_metal_helmet, iceandfire:armor_copper_metal_chestplate, iceandfire:armor_copper_metal_leggings and iceandfire:armor_copper_metal_boots. The recipe below shows the chestplate.[7]

How does IceAndFire Community Edition work with other mods?

                            4 parts

The link between IceAndFire Community Edition and another mod that the pack's recipes show is with Hephaestus Forge. The pack adds casting recipes so you can turn molten dragonsteel into the dragonsteel ingots and blocks from Ice and Fire for each dragon type.[7]

                            Casting dragonsteel

Each dragon type has its own molten fluid: ftb:molten_dragonsteel_fire, ftb:molten_dragonsteel_ice and ftb:molten_dragonsteel_lightning. Pour them into a casting table to get an ingot, or into a casting basin to get a full block. Every one of these casting recipes is added by the pack.[7]

The amounts are the same for every dragon type. An ingot takes 90 of the molten fluid at a casting table, and a block takes 810 at a casting basin.[7]

Written from what FTB Evolution 2 itself ships: its files and recipes, the in-game guidebooks and the mods' own pages. Every statement links to the source it came from, and the numbers are checked against the pack before publishing.
