What is IceAndFire Community Edition?
1 part
IceAndFire Community Edition is an unofficial fork of the original Ice and Fire mod. It adds optimizations, new content and rewrites. The pack ships it as an alpha build, and that is the version this guide describes.[1][2]
It carries over everything from the original mod except the myrmex series, and it adds netherite-related things on top.[1]
The mod's in-game guide book opens with a tattered note stuck behind the cover. It says the book holds manuscripts on designing supernatural tools and a guide to tracking down wondrous creatures, and that it is offered to anyone willing to explore those mysteries.[3]
Good to know
- Don't swap this mod in directly for the original Ice and Fire, or your saves will be corrupted. The fork's authors also ask you not to report its issues to the original mod.[1]
- You may not find a config file. The config system only saves the data it needs, so you change settings through the in-game client GUI via Mod Menu, and that needs server operator permission.[1]
- Biome settings are changed by editing biome tags with datapacks.[1]
Unverified Whether the pack's quest book has any chapter, group or quest that involves this mod, and whether the ATM Star path uses it, is not shown by the sources here. Check the quest book itself for details.
How do you get started with IceAndFire Community Edition?
3 parts
Welcome to Ice and Fire! This pack uses the Community Edition, an unofficial fork of the original mod. It keeps everything from the original except the myrmex series, and it adds Netherite-related content. The fork also supports EMI for recipe viewing, so you can look up recipes in-game.[1]
The sources for this section don't spell out a strict crafting order. What they do give is the mod's own advancement descriptions, which make a good roadmap for your first steps.[4]
Start with the in-game guide
The mod's in-game guide opens with a tattered note tucked behind the cover. It is dedicated to anyone willing to explore mystic wonders, and it wishes to help you along the way.[3]
A sensible early roadmap
- Enter the world of magical creatures. That is the description of the root advancement, which starts the whole line.[4]
- Find 3 manuscripts in dungeons and use them to create a bestiary.[4]
- Craft a Bestiary Lectern to learn more about the world of Ice and Fire.[4]
- Try taming some creatures. A hippogryph is tamed by dropping rabbit feet near it, a hippocampus by feeding it kelp, and a pixie is befriended by dropping cake near it.[4]
- Prepare your dragon tools. Dragon Meal rapidly grows baby dragons, a dragon flute stops runaway dragons, a dragon horn stores dragons, and a dragon command staff lets you control them.[4]
- Build toward dragonsteel. A dragonsteel ingot is made from dragon blood and iron, and dragonsteel weapons come after that.[4]
How the dragon forge works
The dragon forges are what make dragon steel. The forge core is where all items are put in. A dragon needs to see the core block to power the forge, and it has to be the correct type of dragon. You open the forge by clicking the blocks at the center of each face.[4]
How does IceAndFire Community Edition work?
2 parts
Ice and Fire works differently from most modded machines. There is no power, fluid or pipe system in what the sources describe. The one multiblock they explain is the dragon forge, and it runs on dragons instead of energy.[4]
The dragon forge
The forge is used to make dragon steel. The in-game Ponder scene for it is titled "Use dragon to power dragon forge", so a living dragon is what drives the structure.[4]
- The forge has a core block, and every item you want to process goes into that core.[4]
- A dragon has to be able to see the core block to power the forge.[4]
- It has to be the correct type of dragon for the forge. The recipe viewer lists a dedicated Lightning Dragon Forge category, which shows that forges come in dragon-specific variants.[4]
- You open the forge by clicking the block at the center of each face.[4]
Building toward it
The advancement list gives you a rough order of progress. You create a dragon forge brick, then a dragon forge core, and then you can make a dragonsteel ingot from dragon blood and iron.[4]
How do you progress through IceAndFire Community Edition?
5 parts
This one is short on purpose. The sources I have don't show a quest-driven path or any tier breakdown for this mod in the pack, so I won't invent one. What I can show you is the gear the pack has crafting recipes for, grouped by type.[5]
Start with the Bestiary
The pack has a crafting recipe for the Bestiary. The in-game guide opens with a note about a manuscript of supernatural tool designs and a guide to tracking down fantastic creatures, so it's a good first stop.[3][5]
Metal gear
The pack adds copper tools such as the iceandfire:copper_pickaxe and iceandfire:copper_sword, plus metal armor sets like the iceandfire:armor_copper_metal_helmet and the Silver Helmet. The helmets are shown below.[5]
Crafting Shaped
5 × Copper Ingot

Crafting Shaped
5 × any silver ingot

Dragon scale armor
Dragon scale armor has in-pack recipes in many colours. Examples are the Red Dragon Scale Chestplate, Blue Dragon Scale Chestplate, Sapphire Dragon Scale Chestplate, Electric Dragon Scale Chestplate and Amethyst Dragon Scale Chestplate. These colours each have recipes for the helmet, chestplate, leggings and boots.[5]
Crafting Shaped
8 × Dragonscales Red

Death worm gear
There are also recipes for death worm chitin armor, such as the Red Death Worm Chitin Chestplate and White Death Worm Chitin Chestplate. The Death Worm Gauntlet has red, white and yellow variants: Death Worm Gauntlet, Death Worm Gauntlet and Death Worm Gauntlet.[5]
Crafting Shaped

| Deathworm Chitin Red | Chain | Deathworm Chitin Red |

Other craftables
The pack also has the Amphithere Macuahuitl, Amphithere Arrow, Cockatrice Scepter, Blindfold, Ambrosia, Ash and a range of banner patterns. The Amphithere Macuahuitl and Ambrosia are shown below.[5]

How does IceAndFire Community Edition work with other mods?
The one confirmed link between this mod and another mod in the pack is a recipe. The pack adds a Productive Trees sawmill recipe that turns Sawdust into Dreadwood Planks, so you can get Dreadwood planks from the sawmill as well.[5]
Sawmill (productivetrees)
Recipe id: allthemods:productivetrees/sawing/iceandfire/dreadwood_planks
Made in the Productive Trees sawmill. The pack adds this recipe, it does not come from the mod itself.
Which IceAndFire Community Edition config options matter?
The only config file for this mod that I can confirm in this pack is the client-side one, so this section is short. It sits at config/iceandfire/iaf-client.json and holds three options. They affect only your own game, not the world or the server.[6]
- client.customMainMenu is set to false in this pack.[6]
- client.dragonAuto3rdPerson is set to false in this pack.[6]
- client.siren.shader is set to true in this pack.[6]
If you want to change any of these, edit the file with the game closed. Restart afterwards so the new values load.[6]
Unverified I couldn't confirm the mod's default values for these three options, so I can't say whether the pack changed any of them. I also have no source describing exactly what each option does beyond its name. Any gameplay or server-side config files for the mod aren't covered here.
