What is Sawmill?
1 part
Sawmill adds one thing: a Sawmill crafting station that lets you craft wooden items. Its recipes are built to work with any mod, so wood-derived blocks from other mods are covered too.[1]
This pack includes Sawmill 1.21-1.5.10 for NeoForge.[2]
What else it adds
- A Carpenter villager that works at the Sawmill and offers some useful trades.[1]
- 5 unique Carpenter houses that can spawn in your villages.[1]
- Unique sawing sounds for the Sawmill workstation.[1]
- Data-driven villager trades, using the Moonlight villager trade system.[1]
- KubeJS integration if you want to add extra recipes. Datapacks work for this as well.[1]
The mod does not add a pile of extra wooden blocks. You get the Sawmill and nothing more.[1]
How do you get started with Sawmill?
3 parts
Good news: this mod keeps things simple. Sawmill adds one thing, the Saw, a crafting station for wooden items. The mod's page describes it as working with any mod, so wood-derived blocks from other mods in the pack can be crafted there too, and it adds no extra wooden block spam.[1][3]
Step 1: Craft the Saw
Making the Saw is the first thing to do, and it is the only item you need. The pack has changed this recipe from the mod's own version, so follow the one below and not what you may remember from other modpacks.[4]
Crafting Shaped
| any wooden fence | any iron ingot | any wooden fence |
| any wooden slab | any wooden slab | any wooden slab |
Recipe id: sawmill:sawmill
This is the in-pack recipe, changed by the pack.
Step 2: Place it and start sawing
- Place the Saw somewhere handy, such as next to your storage or your main crafting area.[3]
- Open it to get the Saw screen, then use it to craft wooden items. The mod says it can craft any wood-derived block, including ones from other mods.[1][3]
- Take your result from the screen. You will hear the mod's sawing sounds when you do.[1][3]
Step 3: Look out for the Carpenter
The mod also adds a Carpenter villager, who works at a Sawmill and offers some useful trades. Carpenters come with 5 unique houses that can spawn in your villages, so keep an eye out when you explore. If you place a Saw near a villager who needs a job, that is the workstation the Carpenter uses.[1]
How does Sawmill work?
4 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 2.11 guide
Sawmill is built around one idea: a single crafting station, the Saw, that lets you craft wooden items. Instead of adding piles of new wooden blocks, the mod gives you one workstation and keeps it that way, with no extra wooden block spam.[1]
The Sawmill station
The Saw is where all the woodworking happens. Its recipes are designed to be compatible with any mod automatically, so the station can craft wood-derived blocks from other mods too, not just vanilla ones. That makes it a handy one-stop shop when your world has lots of wood types and wooden decorations from different mods.[1]
The station also has its own sawing sounds, so you'll hear it working when you use it.[1]
Crafting the Sawmill in this pack
Heads up: this pack changed the recipe for the Saw, so don't rely on the default recipe from the mod page or older videos. The recipe below is the one actually used in this pack.[5]
Crafting Shaped
| any wooden fence | any iron ingot | any wooden fence |
| any wooden slab | any wooden slab | any wooden slab |
Recipe id: sawmill:sawmill

Carpenter villagers
The Sawmill doubles as a villager workstation. Carpenter villagers can work at a Sawmill, and once they do, they offer you some useful trades.[1]
Carpenters come with 5 unique houses that can spawn in your villages, so you may find them already set up when you explore instead of having to create one yourself.[1]
The Carpenter's trades are data driven, using the Moonlight villager trade system, which means pack makers can adjust them with data files.[1]
Unverified The exact Carpenter trades available in this pack are not listed in the sources, so check them in-game.
Adding and changing recipes
Sawmill has KubeJS integration for adding extra recipes, and you can use datapacks as well. If a wooden block ever doesn't show up in the station, this is how a pack maker would add it.[1]
Unverified The sources don't say whether the Sawmill can be automated with hoppers, pipes or other item transport, and they don't mention any power or fluid use. Treat it as a manual crafting station unless you confirm otherwise in-game.
How do you progress through Sawmill?
The only progression detail the pack data confirms for this mod is the Saw, the Saw from Sawmill. Its crafting recipe is a shaped recipe that the pack has changed, so what you see below is the pack's version and not the mod's default.[4]
Crafting Shaped
| any wooden fence | any iron ingot | any wooden fence |
| any wooden slab | any wooden slab | any wooden slab |
Recipe id: sawmill:sawmill
This is the in-pack recipe for the Saw. The pack changed it from the mod's own.
The recipe accepts any iron ingot, any wooden fence and any wooden slab (each through a tag), plus a stick. Because those are tags, any matching material works, so you can craft the Saw as soon as you have basic wood and iron.[4]
Which Sawmill config options matter?
Same as in the All the Mods 10 2.11 guide
There's not much to tweak here: this pack ships no config file for the mod, so everything runs on the mod's built-in behaviour with no pack-side overrides to worry about.[1]
That's less of a problem than it sounds, because the Sawmill's recipe list isn't something you'd normally configure anyway. Its recipes are generated to be compatible with any mod, so any wood-derived block from anywhere in the pack should already be craftable at the station without you touching a setting.[1]
If you do want to change what the Sawmill can make on your own world or server, the mod exposes KubeJS integration for adding extra recipes, and you can use plain datapacks as well. Villager trades for the Carpenter are data driven too, through the Moonlight villager trade system, so those are adjustable from a datapack rather than from a config screen.[1]
Unverified The mod may still create a config file on first launch with its own defaults, but no such file is present in this pack, so any options it might contain are unconfirmed here.
What changed in Sawmill between versions?
1 part
All the Mods 10 1.26 ships with Sawmill 1.21-1.5.10, and the mod has been in the pack since All the Mods 10 0.59 or earlier. The pack changelogs have no entries for this mod, so everything below comes from the mod's own changelogs.[2]
Mod changelog highlights
- 1.5.6: fixed a typo in a recipe category.[6]
- 1.5.9: works better with KubeJS.[7]
- 1.5.10: updated to work with new EC recipes. This is the version in the pack now.[2][8]
Those are the only changelog entries I have for Sawmill, so versions between them may have changes that are not covered here.[6][7][8]
