What is Pylons?
3 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 4.5 guide
Pylons is a small "just another magic block" mod. Each pylon does one utility job, and none of them is a big progression gate. This pack ships Pylons 5.2.1 for Minecraft 1.21.1, and the mod has been in the pack since version 2.2 or earlier.[1][2]
What the pylons do
- Harvester Pylon: harvests crops in a configurable radius from 3x3 to 9x9 and outputs them to an inventory above it. You place it inside the water block of the farm. By default it needs a hoe in its inventory and uses 1 durability per crop harvested.[1]
- Infusion Pylon: applies effects to you from any distance, though it may require chunkloading. It works with Potion Filters that you activate by right-clicking them while you have the effect.[1]
- Interdiction Pylon: stops all spawns of the mobs you choose within a chunk range from 1x1 to 5x5. Right-click a mob with a Mob Filter, then put the filter in the pylon.[1]
- Expulsion Pylon: made for servers. It expels other players from the chunk it sits in. You can whitelist players with a Player Filter, and OPs are always whitelisted.[1]
Who it is for
If you run a farm, the Harvester Pylon automates it. If you build a mob-free base, the Interdiction Pylon helps. The Infusion Pylon suits anyone who wants a permanent potion effect. The Expulsion Pylon is mostly for server admins and players on multiplayer worlds.[1]
Where it fits in the pack
The pack gives Pylons its own quest chapter. The filters come first: a quest in "?" for the Mob Filter, a quest in "?" for the Potion Filter, a quest in "?" for the Player Filter and a quest in "?" for the Lifeless Filter. The pylon quests come after them: a quest in "?" for the Harvester, a quest in "?" for the Infusion, a quest in "?" for the Expulsion and a quest in "?" for the Interdiction Pylon. Each pylon quest also needs one more quest completed, and a couple of them need a second one as well.[3]
How do you get started with Pylons?
4 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 4.5 guide
Pylons is a magic-block mod, and each of its four pylons can be toggled automatically with redstone. In this pack the filters are what unlock most of the pylons, so the sensible order is the Harvester Pylon first, then each filter with the pylon that uses it.[1][3][4]
Step 1: Harvester Pylon
The Harvester Pylon needs a hoe rather than a filter by default, so you can start with it right away. It harvests crops in a radius from 3x3 to 9x9 blocks around it and outputs into an inventory above it. Place it inside the water block of your farm, or level with the crops.[1][4]

This is the mod's own recipe, and the pack leaves it unchanged.
By default (this is configurable) the pylon needs a hoe inside it and uses 1 durability per harvest, unless the hoe is unbreakable. It can also be configured to need power instead. The pack has a quest for this pylon: a quest in "?".[3][4]
Step 2: Potion Filter and Infusion Pylon
Next, craft a Potion Filter. The filter has its own quest, a quest in "?", and the Infusion Pylon quest a quest in "?" comes after it in the quest book.[3]

The Infusion Pylon lets you apply effects to yourself from any distance. To activate a filter, apply a potion effect to yourself, then right-click with the filter in hand to extract it. By default (configurable) the minimum duration that can be extracted is 60 seconds, and the filter needs 1 hour of duration to activate. You can combine duplicate filters by holding one in each hand and right-clicking.[1][4]
Step 3: Mob Filter and Interdiction Pylon
The Interdiction Pylon stops spawns of the mobs you choose within a range of 1x1 to 5x5 chunks. Right-click a mob with a Mob Filter to select it, then put the filter into the pylon. The quests are a quest in "?" for the filter and a quest in "?" for the pylon.[1][3][4]

The Lifeless Filter works differently. It blocks only natural spawns, but for all mobs, and it raises the range to 25x25 chunks. It also disables other mob filters. The Interdiction Pylon quest comes after both the Mob Filter quest and the Lifeless Filter quest, a quest in "?".[3][4]

Optional: Expulsion Pylon
The Expulsion Pylon is mainly for servers. It expels other players from a chunk range of 1x1 to 5x5, and you can whitelist players with a Player Filter. OPs are always whitelisted. Its quests are a quest in "?" for the filter and a quest in "?" for the pylon.[1][3][4]

How does Pylons work?
6 parts
Pylons is a small magic-block mod. Each pylon does one job on its own, and you tune it with filter items instead of menus full of settings. The sources describe four pylons, and I'll go through each one, plus the filters that control them.[1][6]
Toggling pylons with redstone
The Expulsion, Harvester, Infusion and Interdiction Pylons can all be toggled automatically with redstone. That makes it easy to switch a protection or a farm on and off from a lever, a button or a more elaborate circuit.[6]
Harvester Pylon
The Harvester Pylon harvests crops in a radius from 3x3 to 9x9 blocks around itself and outputs the drops to an inventory above it. Put a chest or a hopper line directly on top of it and you have a simple automated farm.[1][6]
Place it inside the farm's water block, or level with the crops.[6]
By default the pylon needs a hoe inside it and uses 1 durability per harvest. An unbreakable hoe never wears out, and Unbreaking and other durability enchantments are supported. The mod can also be configured to require power instead of durability.[1][6]

This is the mod's own recipe, unchanged by the pack.
Infusion Pylon
The Infusion Pylon lets you apply potion effects to yourself from any distance, using activated Potion Filter items. By default (configurable) it loads the chunk it sits in while its owner is online, which is how the effects keep working when you are far away.[1][6]
To activate a Potion Filter, first get the effect on yourself, for example from a potion. Then right-click with the filter in hand to extract the effect. This takes all of the remaining duration from you and stores it in the filter.[1][6]
- By default (configurable) the minimum duration you can extract is 60 seconds.[1][6]
- By default (configurable) a filter needs 1 hour of duration to activate. The mod's page equates that to 7.5 vanilla extended potions.[1][6]
- The filter tooltip shows your progress in seconds. Right-clicking with the same effect active adds to that progress.[6]
- If you have duplicate filters with the same effect, hold one in each hand and right-click. The off-hand filter's duration is added to the main-hand filter.[1][6]
- If a tooltip says an effect is disabled in the config, that effect can't be used.[6]

Interdiction Pylon
The Interdiction Pylon prevents natural and forced spawns of the mobs you specify, within a chunk range from 1x1 to 5x5. You choose the mobs with Mob Filter items. Right-click a mob with a filter to select it, then insert the filter into the pylon.[1][6]
The Lifeless Filter works differently. It blocks all mobs instead of chosen ones, but only natural spawns. In exchange it raises the range to 25x25 chunks, and it disables other mob filters in the pylon.[6]

Expulsion Pylon
The Expulsion Pylon expels other players from the selected chunk range, from 1x1 to 5x5 chunks. It is intended for servers. You can whitelist players with a Player Filter: right-click a player with the filter to select them. The mod's page says OPs are always whitelisted.[1][6]

Clearing filters
The pack has a shapeless recipe for each of the Mob, Player and Potion Filters that takes the filter and returns the same filter. The recipe ids are named clear recipes, which suggests they wipe a filter's stored selection, but the sources don't spell out exactly what is cleared.[7]
Unverified The values above marked as default or configurable (hoe durability use, the power option, chunk loading, the 60-second minimum and the 1-hour activation) come from the mod's own descriptions. No config files for this mod were available, so the pack's actual settings could not be confirmed. The power cost for the Harvester Pylon's power mode is also not given in the sources.
How do you progress through Pylons?
3 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 4.5 guide
Pylons progression in this pack is simple: you craft filters first, then move on to the pylons. The pack's quest chapter for the mod follows that order, so you can use it as a checklist.[3]
Tier 1: the filters
The chapter starts with four filter quests, and none of them lists a prerequisite. Each one asks you to get a filter in your inventory: Potion Filter for a quest in "?", Player Filter for a quest in "?", Mob Filter for a quest in "?", and Lifeless Filter for a quest in "?".[3]
All four filter recipes are the mod's own, and the pack has not changed them. Here is how each one is crafted.[5]

There are also shapeless "clear" recipes that take a Mob Filter, a Player Filter or a Potion Filter and give you the same filter back.[5]
Tier 2: the pylons
Each pylon quest in the chapter asks you to obtain the pylon item. Each also depends on a quest that this chapter's listing doesn't show, 30B0240543253EFB, plus other quests listed below. Finish the matching filter quests first and you won't get stuck.[3]
- a quest in "?" is for the Infusion Pylon and needs the Potion Filter quest done first.[3]
- a quest in "?" is for the Expulsion Pylon and needs the Player Filter quest done first.[3]
- a quest in "?" is for the Interdiction Pylon and needs both the Mob Filter quest and the Lifeless Filter quest done first.[3]
- a quest in "?" is for the Harvester Pylon. It needs no filter quest. Besides 30B0240543253EFB, it depends on another quest, 034A9FBCA6D79BB6, which this chapter's listing doesn't show.[3]
What the pack changed
The pack has changed the recipes for the Infusion Pylon, the Expulsion Pylon and the Interdiction Pylon, so don't rely on the mod's default recipes for them. The Harvester Pylon keeps the mod's own recipe. These are the in-pack recipes.[5]

Which All the Mods 10 quests use Pylons?
2 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 4.5 guide
Pylons has one quest chapter in this pack, called "pylons". Every quest in it asks you to obtain an item, and none of them has a title in the quest data, so this page identifies them by the item they ask for.[3]
The filter quests
The filter quests have no prerequisites, so you can start on any of them right away. Each one wants a different filter.[3]
- a quest in "?" asks for the Mob Filter.[3]
- a quest in "?" asks for the Potion Filter.[3]
- a quest in "?" asks for the Player Filter.[3]
- a quest in "?" asks for the Lifeless Filter.[3]
The pylon quests
The remaining quests ask for the pylons themselves. Each of them lists a prerequisite quest that is not part of the filter quests above, and most also depend on one or more of the filter quests.[3]
- a quest in "?" asks for the Infusion Pylon. It requires the potion filter quest, a quest in "?".[3]
- a quest in "?" asks for the Expulsion Pylon. It requires the player filter quest, a quest in "?".[3]
- a quest in "?" asks for the Interdiction Pylon. It requires both the mob filter quest, a quest in "?", and the lifeless filter quest, a quest in "?".[3]
- a quest in "?" asks for the Harvester Pylon. Its prerequisites are quests that are not among the filter quests above.[3]
Which Pylons config options matter?
1 part
I don't have any Pylons config files from this pack, so I can't tell you which values the pack uses or whether it changed anything from the mod defaults. What I can do is show you the settings the mod's own page describes, so you know what to look for in your instance.[1]
Defaults the mod page mentions
- Infusion Pylon: the minimum effect duration you can extract into a Potion Filter is 60 seconds by default. That is the mod default, and the pack's value is unverified.[1]
- Harvester Pylon: by default it needs a hoe in the pylon inventory and uses 1 durability per crop harvested. The page says a config option can disable this, but whether the pack turns it off is unverified.[1]
- Harvester Pylon: the harvest radius is configurable from 3x3 to 9x9 around the pylon.[1]
- Interdiction Pylon: the selected chunk range goes from 1x1 to 5x5.[1]
Unverified Whether this pack changed any Pylons config value from the mod default is unverified, because no config files for the mod were available. Check the config folder in your own instance before relying on the defaults above.
