What is PotionsMaster?

PotionsMaster is part of this pack, which ships version 0.7.1-packdev of the mod. It has been in the pack since at least version 2.25, so it's been part of the modlist for a while.[1]

Unverified No sources were available to confirm what the mod adds, how its mechanics work, who it's aimed at, or where it fits in the pack's progression. Check the items in JEI/EMI and the mod's own documentation until this section can be expanded. This site does hold All the Mods 10's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

How do you get started with PotionsMaster?

4 parts

PotionsMaster in this pack follows a simple chain: make a Pestle and a Mortar, use them to grind Ender Powder, then grind oresight powders and fire them in a blast furnace to get calcinated versions. Here's what to make first and why.[2]

Step 1: Pestle and Mortar

Make these two tools first. The Ender Powder recipe needs both of them, and so does every oresight powder recipe in this pack. Every powder you make runs through this pair, so they're your gateway into the mod.[2]

Step 2: Ender Powder

Next, grind some Ender Powder. It's a shapeless recipe built around an ender pearl, and it's the key intermediate: every oresight powder recipe in this pack needs Ender Powder. Get a few ender pearls set aside before you dive in.[2]

Step 3: Oresight powders

Now you can make oresight powders. The pack adds its own recipes for these. Each powder matches one resource, from vanilla basics like coal, iron, copper, gold, redstone, lapis, diamond, emerald, quartz and netherite scrap, up to modded metals like osmium, tin, lead, silver, nickel, zinc, aluminum, platinum and uranium. There are even powders for allthemodium, vibranium and unobtainium.[2]

A good first pick is the Iron Oresight Powder, since iron is a resource you'll have early. The recipes for the other variants follow the same pattern with a different resource, so once you've made one, the rest will look familiar.[2]

Step 4: Calcinate in a blast furnace

The last step in the chain uses a vanilla blast furnace. The pack adds blasting recipes that turn each oresight powder into its calcinated version. For example, Iron Oresight Powder becomes Calcinated Iron Oresight Powder. There's a matching calcinated powder for every oresight powder listed above, so get a blast furnace running near your crafting area.[2]

Tip: These oresight powder and calcinated powder recipes are added by the pack itself, so trust the in-game recipe viewer over older videos or guides for this mod.[2]

Unverified The available sources don't confirm what the calcinated oresight powders are used for next, such as brewing ore-revealing potions, or how those potions behave. They also don't show whether the Pestle and Mortar are used up when you craft with them or stay in the grid. Check in-game before crafting in bulk.

How does PotionsMaster work?

4 parts

In this pack, PotionsMaster is built around a short crafting chain. You make a Pestle and a Mortar, use them to grind up Ender Powder, and then use all three to make oresight powders for specific ores and gems. Each ore also has its own small config file that links it to an ore tag.[2][3][4]

The tool kit: Pestle and Mortar

Start with the Pestle and the Mortar. Both use the mod's own recipes, not pack scripts. Both are shaped recipes, so the layout in the crafting grid matters.[2]

Ender Powder

Once your tools are ready, you can make Ender Powder. This is also one of the mod's own recipes. It is shapeless, so you can place the ingredients anywhere in the grid. The Pestle and Mortar are part of this recipe, so this is your first real use for them.[2]

Unverified It is not confirmed whether the Pestle and Mortar are used up or given back when you craft with them. Check this in-game before you plan a big batch.

Oresight powders

This is where the pack steps in. All of the oresight powder recipes are added by the pack through KubeJS, and they are shaped recipes. Every one of them uses the Ender Powder, Pestle and Mortar from above, so get those sorted first.[2]

Most of these recipes accept any item from a common tag, such as a raw materials tag or a gems tag. That means the matching raw material works no matter which mod's ore you mined it from.[2]

The pack has oresight powders for these ores: Allthemodium Oresight Powder, Aluminum Oresight Powder, Coal Oresight Powder, Copper Oresight Powder, Diamond Oresight Powder, Emerald Oresight Powder, Gold Oresight Powder, Iron Oresight Powder, Lapis Oresight Powder, Lead Oresight Powder, Netherite Scrap Oresight Powder, Nickel Oresight Powder, Osmium Oresight Powder, Platinum Oresight Powder, Quartz Oresight Powder, Redstone Oresight Powder and Silver Oresight Powder.[2]

Unverified It is not documented what the oresight powders actually do when you use them, or how long any effect lasts. The name suggests they help you spot the matching ore, but this is unconfirmed.

How ore entries are configured

Each ore has its own JSON file in the config/potionsmaster folder, and every file uses the same five keys. Here is how they are set in this pack, with iron as the main example.[4]

  • entryname is the name of the entry, which is "iron" here.[4]
  • oretag points the entry to a common ore tag, which is "c:ores/iron" here.[4]
  • color stores a color as a signed number, and the value varies between ores. For example, redstone is set to -65536 and quartz to -1.[5][6]
  • In the allthemodium, aluminum, coal, copper, diamond, emerald, gold, iron, lapis, lead and netherite files, drawing is false and order is 0.[3][4][7][8][9][10][11][12][13][14][15]
  • The nickel, osmium, platinum, quartz, redstone, silver, tin, unobtainium, uranium, vibranium and zinc files use the same settings: drawing is false and order is 0.[5][6][16][17][18][19][20][21][22][23][24]
Tip: If you edit configs, watch out for netherite. The file is called netherite.json, but inside it entryname is "netherite_scrap" and oretag points to "c:ores/netherite_scrap".[15]

There are also ore entry files for tin, unobtainium, uranium, vibranium and zinc, and each one points to its matching common ore tag.[20][21][22][23][24]

Unverified It is not confirmed whether this pack has oresight powders for tin, unobtainium, uranium, vibranium or zinc. No matching items or recipes for them appear in the confirmed recipe list.

Unverified It is not documented what the drawing and order options control, so their effect on gameplay is unknown.

Unverified No machines, multiblocks, power, fluid handling or automation features are documented for this mod. It is also unconfirmed whether autocrafters can handle recipes that use the Pestle and Mortar.

How do you progress through PotionsMaster?

4 parts

There's no quest line for this mod in the pack, so you set your own pace. The good news is the path is short and easy to follow: make your grinding tools, turn Ender Pearls into Ender Powder, grind that into an oresight powder for the ore you want, then bake that powder in a Blast Furnace to get its calcinated version.[2]

Step 1: Pestle and Mortar

Start by crafting the Pestle and the Mortar. These two tools show up in every grinding recipe in this section, from Ender Powder to every oresight powder. They use the mod's own recipes, which the pack hasn't changed.[2]

Step 2: Ender Powder

Next, grind an Ender Pearl into Ender Powder. This is a shapeless recipe that uses your Pestle and Mortar. Ender Powder goes into every oresight powder recipe, so it's worth making a stack once you have spare pearls.[2]

Unverified Whether the Pestle and Mortar are used up or given back when you craft with them could not be confirmed. Check in-game before you commit a lot of diamonds and quartz.

Step 3: Oresight powders (pack recipes)

This is where the pack takes over. Every oresight powder recipe here is a shaped recipe added by the pack's scripts. So if you've played this mod elsewhere, don't count on the mod's default recipes: check the recipe viewer. Each recipe combines your Ender Powder, Pestle and Mortar with a material that matches the ore you want.[2]

Iron is shown as an example. The other oresight powders follow the same pattern with a different material.

In practice, your tiers are set by which materials you can get. For most metals the recipe takes any matching raw material, and the gem ores take the matching gem. Here's how the powders split up by source.[2]

Step 4: Calcinated powders

The last step for each ore is calcination. Put an oresight powder in a Blast Furnace and you get its calcinated version, for example Iron Oresight Powder becomes Calcinated Iron Oresight Powder. The pack adds these blasting recipes, and every oresight powder on the list above has one, up to Calcinated Allthemodium Oresight Powder, Calcinated Vibranium Oresight Powder and Calcinated Unobtainium Oresight Powder.[2]

Blasting

Recipe id: minecraft:kjs/potionsmaster_calcinated_iron_oresight_powder

Every calcinated powder is made the same way: blast the matching oresight powder.

Tip: These are Blast Furnace recipes, so a normal furnace won't do. Set up a Blast Furnace before you start grinding a batch of powders.[2]

Unverified What you do with the calcinated powders next, such as the potions they brew into, their effects and how long those last, isn't covered by the available sources for this pack. Check your recipe viewer in-game. This site does hold All the Mods 10's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

Which PotionsMaster config options matter?

2 parts

PotionsMaster doesn't have one big settings file. This pack gives it a folder of small JSON files under config/potionsmaster, one per ore. They cover everything from coal, iron and diamond up to allthemodium, vibranium and unobtainium. Every file uses the same keys: color, drawing, entryname, order and oretag.[3][4][8][10][21][23]

Which ores get a file

Here's every ore file in this pack, split into two groups. The good news is that the files don't differ much.[3][24]

What each key is set to

  • The oretag key, for example oretag, links the entry to an ore tag. This pack uses common tags of the form c:ores/, such as c:ores/iron for iron and c:ores/diamond for diamond.[4][10]
  • The entryname key, for example entryname, names the entry. For gold it's simply "gold", and for osmium it's "osmium".[12][17]
  • The color key, for example color, is stored as a single whole number. Redstone is set to -65536, quartz to -1 and allthemodium to -75430.[3][5][6]
  • The drawing key, for example drawing, is false, and the order key, for example order, is 0. These values are the same across the ore files listed above.[8][10]
Tip: Netherite is the odd one out. The file is called netherite.json, but inside it entryname is "netherite_scrap" and oretag is c:ores/netherite_scrap. There's no netherite_scrap file, so open netherite.json instead.[15]

Unverified The available sources only show the values this pack ships. They don't include the mod's own defaults, so it can't be confirmed which of these values, if any, the pack changed. The sources also don't explain what the drawing and order keys do in game, or how the color numbers become on-screen colours. They look like packed colour values, where redstone's -65536 would be pure red, but that is unconfirmed.

What changed in PotionsMaster between versions?

1 part

PotionsMaster has been part of All the Mods 10 for a long time. It first showed up in version 2.2 or earlier, and in All the Mods 10 6.0 you're running PotionsMaster 0.7.1-packdev.[1]

Updates across pack releases

The pack changelogs record these PotionsMaster updates, oldest first:[25][26][27][28]

  • All the Mods 10 2.31: updated from 0.6.6-packdev to 0.6.7-packdev.[28]
  • All the Mods 10 2.34: updated from 0.6.7-packdev to 0.6.8-packdev.[27]
