What is Inventory Tweaks Refoxed?

Inventory Tweaks Refoxed is included in this pack. The pack ships version 1.21.1-1.3.2 of the mod.[1]

Unverified Inventory Tweaks-style mods are usually known for quality-of-life features like inventory sorting and automatically refilling tools or blocks. The sources don't describe what this version does, its controls, who it's aimed at, or where it fits in the pack's progression, so test it in-game before relying on any of these features.

How do you get started with Inventory Tweaks Refoxed?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Good news: there's nothing to craft to get going with Inventory Tweaks Refoxed. It's an inventory-sorting mod, so your first steps are about its sorting controls, not recipes.[2]

The sorting actions

The mod's language file describes its sorting controls as key bindings, each with a short description. Here is what each one is for.[2]

  • Sort Player Inventory: sorts your own inventory.[2]
  • Sort External Inventory: sorts the external inventory, meaning the other inventory you have open alongside yours.[2]
  • Sort Inventory Under Cursor: sorts whichever inventory your cursor is over.[2]

What to do first

  1. Open Minecraft's Controls menu and look for the mod's sorting actions, so you know which keys they use in your game.[2]
  2. Start with Sort Player Inventory to tidy your own items.[2]
  3. When you have another inventory open, try Sort External Inventory and Sort Inventory Under Cursor to see how each one behaves.[2]

How does Inventory Tweaks Refoxed work?

5 parts

Inventory Tweaks Refoxed doesn't add machines, power or pipes. It's an inventory quality-of-life mod: it sorts your inventory and containers, refills your hands automatically, and shows a quick item count next to your hotbar. Here's how each of those systems works in this pack.[2][3]

Sorting keybinds

Sorting runs from keybinds. There's one for each target:[2]

  • Sort Player Inventory sorts your own inventory.[2]
  • Sort External Inventory sorts the container you have open, like a chest.[2]
  • Sort Inventory Under Cursor sorts whichever inventory your mouse is hovering over, so one key covers both cases.[2]

Unverified The default keys for these three keybinds aren't listed in the sources, so check your Controls menu to see or change them.

Two options decide what sorting is allowed. tweaks.enableSort is set to 3 in this pack, which enables all sorting, both player and external. That matches the mod default of 3.[3]

The sort buttons are a different story. The pack changed tweaks.enableButtons from the mod default of 3 (all buttons) to 1, which shows buttons for player sorting only. You'll see a sort button for your own inventory, but no button on chests and other external inventories. External sorting is still enabled, so use the keybind for those.[3]

How sorting rules work

Sorting is driven by sorting.rules. Each rule pairs a slot position with a category. Rows A to D run from top to bottom, and columns 1 to 9 run from left to right. Row D is your hotbar.[3]

A position can be a single slot, a whole row, a whole column, or a range. A range like A1-C9 fills A1 to A9, then B1 to B9, then C1 to C9. Writing it backwards as A9-C1 fills each row from right to left instead.[3]

You can also add modifiers. Append v to a range like A1-C9 to fill in columns instead of rows. Append r to a single row or column to reverse its slot order.[3]

Beyond normal item categories, three special categories exist. /LOCKED stops those slots from moving during sorting. /FROZEN works like /LOCKED and also makes auto-refill ignore the slot. /OTHER covers every item left over once the other rules are used up.[3]

This pack ships with just two rules: D /LOCKED and A1-C9 /OTHER. So when you sort, your hotbar stays exactly as you set it, and everything in the three main inventory rows gets sorted.[3]

Tip: Want your hotbar protected from auto-refill too, not just from sorting? Change the D rule's category from /LOCKED to /FROZEN in the client config.[3]

Item categories

sorting.category defines named groups of items that rules can target. Each category has a spec that matches items in one of three ways: by item type (/instanceof:), by tag (/tag:), by an exact item id, or by food (/isFood:). A spec can also exclude items with a leading exclamation mark.[3]

None of the pack's default rules assign slots to these named categories. They only use /LOCKED and /OTHER. To give tools or food their own dedicated slots, add a rule pointing a position at one of these category names.[3]

Unverified The sources don't explain whether the named categories affect the order of items inside an /OTHER range when no rule references them.

Container overrides

sorting.containerOverrides adjusts sorting for specific container screens. Each entry matches a Java class name pattern and sets a sortRange. This pack lists a long set of screens from other mods, including class names under appeng, com.refinedmods.refinedstorage, net.p3pp3rf1y.sophisticatedbackpacks, tfar.dankstorage and cofh.thermal.core.[3]

Almost every entry has an empty sortRange. The exception is screens matching ironfurnaces.gui.furnaces, which get a sortRange of 0-45.[3]

Unverified The sources don't define sortRange. An empty value most likely turns off sorting for that screen, and a range most likely limits sorting to those slots, but this isn't confirmed.

Auto-refill and quick view

tweaks.autoRefill is enabled in this pack. Any slot set to /FROZEN in your sorting rules is skipped by auto-refill.[3]

Unverified The sources only say auto-refill is enabled. They don't describe exactly when it triggers, such as when a stack runs out or a tool breaks.

tweaks.quickView is also on. It shows next to your hotbar how many of the item you're holding exist in your inventory, so you can see at a glance how many torches or blocks you have left.[3]

Tip: If you're building your own container overrides, turn on tweaks.enableDebug. It's off by default in this pack, and when enabled it logs the name of each screen you open.[3]

Which Inventory Tweaks Refoxed config options matter?

5 parts

All of these settings are in the client config file for Inventory Tweaks Refoxed, so they only change how the mod behaves in your own game. Most of them match the mod defaults, but there's one change you'll notice quickly.[3]

Sort buttons: changed by the pack

This pack sets tweaks.enableButtons to 1, down from the mod default of 3. At 1 you only get sort buttons for your player inventory, so chests and other external containers don't show sort buttons. At 3, every button is enabled.[3]

Sorting itself is still on. tweaks.enableSort stays at 3, which enables both player sorting and external sorting. The config describes a buttons value of 0 as keybind only, so sorting works through the keybind even when a button is hidden. If you want the chest buttons back, set enableButtons to 3.[3]

Sorting rules: your hotbar stays put

This pack sets sorting.rules to two rules: D /LOCKED and A1-C9 /OTHER. Rows A to D run from top to bottom, and row D is your hotbar. /LOCKED stops those slots from moving during a sort. Your hotbar layout stays exactly as you left it, and everything else gets sorted into slots A1 through C9.[3]

You can write your own rules as a position followed by a category. For example, D3 targets the 3rd hotbar slot. Adding v to a range like A1-C9 fills by columns instead of rows. The /FROZEN category works like /LOCKED, and it also makes auto-refill ignore that slot.[3]

Item categories

sorting.category defines these categories: sword, axe, pickaxe, shovel, hoe, acceptableFood, torch, cheapBlocks and blocks. acceptableFood covers any food except rotten flesh, spider eyes, poisonous potatoes and pufferfish. cheapBlocks covers the cobblestone and dirt tags.[3]

The pack's rules don't use any of these categories, only /LOCKED and /OTHER. If you want them, add rules of your own, for example to send swords or torches to a specific slot.[3]

Quality-of-life toggles

Container overrides

sorting.containerOverrides lists screens from many storage and machine mods, including Applied Energistics, Refined Storage, Integrated Dynamics, Integrated Terminals, Sophisticated Backpacks, Sophisticated Storage, Dank Storage, Laser IO, Thermal, Just Dire Things and Productive Bees. Almost all of them have an empty sort range. Iron Furnaces screens are the exception, with a sort range of 0-45.[3]

Unverified The config file doesn't say what an empty sort range does. It probably stops Inventory Tweaks from sorting inside those screens so it doesn't interfere with their own storage systems, but this isn't confirmed.

What changed in Inventory Tweaks Refoxed between versions?

All the Mods 10 7.3 ships Inventory Tweaks Refoxed version 1.21.1-1.3.2, from the file invtweaks-1.21.1-1.3.2.jar. The mod has been in the pack since All the Mods 10 2.40 or earlier, so it's been around for a good chunk of the pack's life.[1]

Unverified No pack changelog entries or mod changelogs were available for this mod, so it's unconfirmed which Inventory Tweaks Refoxed versions earlier pack releases shipped, when it was updated, or what changed between versions.
