What is Inventory Tweaks Refoxed?

Inventory Tweaks Refoxed is part of the pack, and the pack ships version 1.21.1-1.3.2 of it (file invtweaks-1.21.1-1.3.2.jar). It has been in the pack since version 2.25 or earlier, so it's a long-standing part of the mod list rather than a recent addition.[1]

Unverified The pack files I have don't describe what the mod does feature by feature, so I'm not listing its sorting or inventory behavior, default keybinds or config options here. I also can't confirm where it fits in the pack's progression, including any ATM Star path or quest involvement. Check the mod's own in-game options before relying on specifics.

How do you get started with Inventory Tweaks Refoxed?

2 parts

Good news: there's nothing to craft to get going with Inventory Tweaks Refoxed. It's an inventory-sorting mod, so your first steps are about its sorting controls, not recipes.[2]

The sorting actions

The mod's language file describes its sorting controls as key bindings, each with a short description. Here is what each one is for.[2]

  • Sort Player Inventory: sorts your own inventory.[2]
  • Sort External Inventory: sorts the external inventory, meaning the other inventory you have open alongside yours.[2]
  • Sort Inventory Under Cursor: sorts whichever inventory your cursor is over.[2]

What to do first

  1. Open Minecraft's Controls menu and look for the mod's sorting actions, so you know which keys they use in your game.[2]
  2. Start with Sort Player Inventory to tidy your own items.[2]
  3. When you have another inventory open, try Sort External Inventory and Sort Inventory Under Cursor to see how each one behaves.[2]

How does Inventory Tweaks Refoxed work?

6 parts

This section covers the parts of Inventory Tweaks Refoxed that the sources explain: inventory sorting, auto-refill and the hotbar quick view. In this pack, all of it is controlled from the client config file.[2][3]

Sorting keybinds

The mod registers sorting keybinds. One sorts the inventory under your cursor, one sorts the external inventory (a chest or similar), and one sorts your own player inventory.[2]

In this pack's config, tweaks.enableSort controls which of these do anything. It takes a value from 0 to 3: 0 disables sorting, 1 allows player sorting only, 2 allows external sorting only, and 3 enables everything. This pack sets it to 3, which is also the mod default, so all sorting is on.[3]

Sort buttons

In this pack's config, the on-screen buttons are set by tweaks.enableButtons. The mod default is 3, which enables all buttons. This pack changes it to 1, which means buttons for player sorting only. The other values are 0 (keybinds only) and 2 (buttons for external sorting only).[3]

Tip: With the pack's enableButtons value of 1, only player sorting buttons are enabled, so there is no button for external inventories. Sorting is still enabled for them and an external-inventory keybind exists, so use that keybind if you want to sort chests.[2][3]

Sorting rules

In this pack's config, where sorted items land is decided by sorting.rules. Each entry is a position followed by a category. Rows are lettered A to D from top to bottom, and columns are numbered 1 to 9 from left to right. So D3 is the third hotbar slot, B is the second row, and A1-C9 covers every slot from A1 to C9.[3]

This pack ships two rules: D /LOCKED and A1-C9 /OTHER. The first locks row D, which is your hotbar, so those slots are prevented from moving in sorting. The second sends all remaining items into the main inventory rows A1 to C9.[3]

  • In the config's rule syntax, /LOCKED prevents the matching slots from moving in sorting.[3]
  • /FROZEN has the effect of /LOCKED and also makes auto-refill ignore the slot.[3]
  • /OTHER covers all remaining items after the other rules are exhausted.[3]
  • Appending v to a range like A1-C9 moves in columns instead of rows. Appending r to a position like B or 9 reverses the slot order.[3]

Item categories

sorting.category defines named categories that rules can target: sword, axe, pickaxe, shovel, hoe, acceptableFood, torch, cheapBlocks and blocks. Tools and blocks are matched by item class. Cobblestone and dirt are matched by tag and count as cheapBlocks. acceptableFood is any food except rotten flesh, spider eyes, poisonous potatoes and pufferfish.[3]

The two rules this pack ships only use /LOCKED and /OTHER, so none of these categories are assigned to specific slots by default. You can add your own rules that point at them.[3]

Auto-refill, quick view and debug

  • In this pack's config, tweaks.autoRefill is set to true.[3]
  • In this pack's config, tweaks.quickView is set to true. It shows a quick view next to your hotbar of how many of the items you're currently holding exist in your inventory.[3]
  • In this pack's config, tweaks.enableDebug is set to false. When enabled, it logs the name of the screens being opened.[3]

Container overrides

In this pack's config, sorting.containerOverrides lists screen and container classes from many other mods, each with a sort range. Only one entry sets a range: the furnace screen class under ironfurnaces.gui.furnaces, which uses 0-45. The other entries leave the sort range empty.[3]

Which Inventory Tweaks Refoxed config options matter?

4 parts

Everything for this mod lives in one file, config/invtweaks-client.toml. Only one value is changed from the mod default in this pack, and it's the one you'll notice first.[3]

The one value the pack changed

tweaks.enableButtons is set to 1 in this pack. The mod default is 3. The range is 0 to 3: 0 means no buttons (keybind only), 1 means buttons for player sorting only, 2 means buttons for external sorting only, and 3 means all buttons. So in this pack you only get the sort button for your own inventory. If you want the buttons back on external containers too, set it to 3.[3]

Other tweaks

  • tweaks.enableSort is 3, the same as the mod default. That means all sorting is enabled. 0 disables sorting, 1 is player sorting only, and 2 is external sorting only.[3]
  • tweaks.autoRefill is true, so auto-refill is on.[3]
  • tweaks.quickView is true. It shows next to your hotbar how many of the item you're currently holding exist in your inventory.[3]
  • tweaks.enableDebug is false. Turning it on makes the mod log the names of the screens being opened.[3]

Sorting rules

sorting.rules holds the rules "D /LOCKED" and "A1-C9 /OTHER". Rows run A to D from top to bottom, so D is your hotbar. /LOCKED stops those slots from moving when you sort, which means your hotbar stays put. A1-C9 covers the rows A, B and C of your main inventory, and /OTHER sends every remaining item there.[3]

The file also defines item categories in sorting.category: sword, axe, pickaxe, shovel, hoe, acceptableFood, torch, cheapBlocks and blocks. The rules above don't reference any of them.[3]

Tip: The slot syntax in the config comments is flexible. A single letter like B means a whole row, a digit like 9 means a whole column, and a range like A1-C9 covers a block of slots. Adding v to a range moves items in columns instead of rows, and /FROZEN works like /LOCKED but also makes auto-refill ignore the slot.[3]

Container overrides

sorting.containerOverrides is a list of per-container entries, each with a container class and a sort range. The pack's list includes class paths for Applied Energistics, Refined Storage, Sophisticated Backpacks, Sophisticated Storage and Dank Storage, among others. Every entry except one has an empty sort range. The exception is the ironfurnaces.gui.furnaces class path, which uses 0-45.[3]

What changed in Inventory Tweaks Refoxed between versions?

1 part

Inventory Tweaks Refoxed has been part of All the Mods 10 for a long time. It was first included in version 2.25 or earlier, and All the Mods 10 8.1 ships version 1.21.1-1.3.2 of the mod.[1]

Version bumps in the pack changelogs

  • All the Mods 10 2.42: updated from 1.21.1-1.2.0 to 1.21.1-1.2.2.[4]
  • All the Mods 10 2.43: updated from 1.21.1-1.2.2 to 1.21.1-1.3.2, which is the version still in 8.1.[1][5]

The pack changelogs only record the version numbers for these updates. They don't say what changed inside the mod.[4][5]

Unverified No changelogs for the shipped jars were available, so the mod's own feature changes, fixes or config changes between 1.2.0 and 1.3.2 are unverified.
