What is Inventory Tweaks Refoxed?

Inventory Tweaks Refoxed is part of the pack as version 1.21.1-1.3.2, shipped as the file invtweaks-1.21.1-1.3.2.jar. It has been in the pack since version 2.40 or earlier, so it's a long-standing part of the mod list.[1]

Unverified I couldn't confirm from the available pack data what the mod's features are, how it is configured, or whether the pack changes any of its defaults. There is no guidebook, platform description or config data for it, so this guide doesn't describe its behavior.

Unverified No quests or recipes involving this mod were found in the pack data, and it doesn't appear on the ATM Star path. That means nothing here points to a specific stage of progression where it matters.

How do you get started with Inventory Tweaks Refoxed?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Good news: there's nothing to craft to get going with Inventory Tweaks Refoxed. It's an inventory-sorting mod, so your first steps are about its sorting controls, not recipes.[2]

The sorting actions

The mod's language file describes its sorting controls as key bindings, each with a short description. Here is what each one is for.[2]

  • Sort Player Inventory: sorts your own inventory.[2]
  • Sort External Inventory: sorts the external inventory, meaning the other inventory you have open alongside yours.[2]
  • Sort Inventory Under Cursor: sorts whichever inventory your cursor is over.[2]

What to do first

  1. Open Minecraft's Controls menu and look for the mod's sorting actions, so you know which keys they use in your game.[2]
  2. Start with Sort Player Inventory to tidy your own items.[2]
  3. When you have another inventory open, try Sort External Inventory and Sort Inventory Under Cursor to see how each one behaves.[2]

How does Inventory Tweaks Refoxed work?

6 parts

Inventory Tweaks Refoxed doesn't add machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or item pipes. The sources for this pack only show a set of inventory-management systems: sorting, sort buttons, auto-refill and a quick view of your held item. Everything below comes from the pack's client config and the mod's keybind descriptions.[2][3]

Sorting and keybinds

The mod has separate sort keybinds: one sorts the inventory under your cursor, one sorts the external inventory (a chest, for example), and one sorts your own inventory.[2]

tweaks.enableSort decides which kinds of sorting are allowed. 0 disables sorting, 1 allows player sorting only, 2 allows external sorting only, and 3 allows everything. The pack leaves it at 3, which is also the mod default.[3]

Sort buttons

tweaks.enableButtons controls the on-screen sort buttons. 0 means keybinds only, 1 shows buttons for player sorting only, 2 shows buttons for external sorting only, and 3 shows all buttons.[3]

Tip: The pack changed this option to 1, so you only get the player-sorting button by default. The mod's own default is 3. If you want buttons on chests and other external inventories, raise the value in the config or use the external sort keybind.[2][3]

Sorting rules

sorting.rules decides where sorted items go. Each rule is a position followed by a category. Rows run A to D from top to bottom and columns 1 to 9 from left to right, so D3 is the 3rd slot of the hotbar. A range such as A1-C9 covers every slot from A1 through C9.[3]

The pack's first rule, D with /LOCKED, stops that row (your hotbar) from moving when you sort. The next rule, A1-C9 with /OTHER, puts all remaining items into your main inventory rows.[3]

  • /LOCKED stops the matching slots from moving during sorting.[3]
  • /FROZEN does the same as /LOCKED, and the slot is also ignored by auto-refill.[3]
  • /OTHER covers every item left over once the other rules are used up.[3]
  • Adding v to a range like A1-C9 moves through columns instead of rows. Adding r to a position like B or 9 reverses the slot order.[3]

Item categories

sorting.category defines the named categories that rules can refer to. The pack config defines: sword, axe, pickaxe, shovel, hoe, acceptableFood, torch, cheapBlocks and blocks.[3]

Tools and blocks are matched by item class. The acceptableFood category matches food but excludes rotten flesh, spider eyes, poisonous potatoes and pufferfish. The torch category matches Torch, and cheapBlocks matches the cobblestone and dirt tags.[3]

The active rules in this pack only use /LOCKED and /OTHER, so none of these categories is assigned to specific slots by default. They only matter if you add rules that name them.[3]

Container overrides

sorting.containerOverrides is a list of screen and container classes, each with a sort range. The pack fills it with entries for many storage and automation mod screens.[3]

Nearly all entries have an empty sort range. The one exception is the Iron Furnaces screens, which use the range 0-45.[3]

Auto-refill, quick view and debug

  • tweaks.autoRefill is on in the pack. It enables auto-refill.[3]
  • tweaks.quickView is on in the pack. It displays next to your hotbar how many of the items you're currently holding exist in your inventory.[3]
  • tweaks.enableDebug is off in the pack. When enabled, it logs the names of the screens being opened.[3]

Which Inventory Tweaks Refoxed config options matter?

4 parts

Inventory Tweaks Refoxed keeps its settings in one client file. Only one option is marked in the pack's config as changed from the mod default, and it is the one most likely to catch you out.[3]

The one value the pack changed

tweaks.enableButtons is set to 1 in this pack. The mod default is 3. At 1 you only get the sort buttons for your own inventory. The other values are 0 (no buttons, keybind only), 2 (buttons for external sorting only) and 3 (all buttons). If you want sort buttons on chests and other containers, set it to 2 or 3.[3]

Tip: Sorting itself is not turned off. tweaks.enableSort is left at 3 (all sorting enabled), so only the buttons are limited, not the sorting feature.[3]

The other toggles

  • tweaks.enableSort is 3, which is also the mod default. Player and external sorting are both enabled. The range is 0 to 3, and 0 disables sorting.[3]
  • tweaks.autoRefill is true, so auto-refill is on.[3]
  • tweaks.quickView is true. It shows next to your hotbar how many of the item you are holding exist in your inventory.[3]
  • tweaks.enableDebug is false. Turning it on makes the mod log the names of the screens you open.[3]

Sorting rules

sorting.rules is set to D /LOCKED and A1-C9 /OTHER. Row D is your hotbar, and /LOCKED stops those slots from moving when you sort, so your hotbar layout stays put. A1-C9 covers the rows above the hotbar, and /OTHER sends all remaining items there.[3]

The config file also notes that /FROZEN works like /LOCKED but additionally makes auto-refill ignore the slot. This pack's rules do not use it.[3]

sorting.category defines these categories: sword, axe, pickaxe, shovel, hoe, acceptableFood, torch, cheapBlocks and blocks. The pack's rules only use /LOCKED and /OTHER, so none of these categories are assigned to slots unless you add rules that use them.[3]

Container overrides

sorting.containerOverrides lists a long set of container screen classes from other mods, each with a sort range. Nearly every entry has an empty range. The one exception is the ironfurnaces.gui.furnaces screens, which have the range 0-45.[3]

What changed in Inventory Tweaks Refoxed between versions?

The sources only give a short trail for Inventory Tweaks Refoxed in this pack, and it comes from the pack changelogs. There are no stored changelogs for the shipped jar, so I can't tell you what actually changed inside the mod between these versions.[1][4][5]

  • All the Mods 10 2.42 updated Inventory Tweaks Refoxed from 1.21.1-1.2.0 to 1.21.1-1.2.2.[5]
  • All the Mods 10 2.43 updated it again, from 1.21.1-1.2.2 to 1.21.1-1.3.2.[4]
  • All the Mods 10 4.14 ships version 1.21.1-1.3.2 (file invtweaks-1.21.1-1.3.2.jar), so it's on the same version that 2.43 brought in. The mod was already in the pack in 2.42 or earlier.[1][4]
