What is FTB Quests?
FTB Quests is the quest-book mod in the pack. This pack ships version 2101.1.34, built for NeoForge (the file is ftb-quests-neoforge-2101.1.34.jar).[1]
It has been in the pack for a while: it was first included in pack version 2.25 or earlier, so it is not a recent addition.[1]
Unverified The sources I have don't describe what FTB Quests does in detail, as there is no in-jar guidebook and no platform description for it. They also don't confirm where it fits in the pack's progression. It is not on the ATM Star quest path, and no quests in this pack are confirmed to involve the mod.
How do you get started with FTB Quests?
5 parts
FTB Quests adds a small set of craftable items in this pack. Every one of them has a recipe you can make from the start, so the order below is about what builds on what.[2]
Step one: the Quest Book
Start with the Quest Book. Its recipe is shapeless, so the pieces can go anywhere in the crafting grid. Here is the exact in-pack recipe.[2]
Step two: the 1x1 Task Screen
Next, make the Task Screen (1x1). It is the smallest screen, and the other screens and the configurator build on it, so craft it before anything else from this list.[2]
Step three: the Task Screen Configurator
Once you have a 1x1 screen, you can craft the Task Screen Configurator. Its recipe is shaped, so follow the grid below.[2]

Step four: bigger screens
If you want a larger screen, the pack has Task Screen (3x3), Task Screen (5x5) and Task Screen (7x7). Each size steps up from the smaller ones, so work through them in order.[2]

Step five: the Loot Crate Opener
The last item is the Loot Crate Opener. It is a shaped recipe, and you can craft it any time.[2]

How does FTB Quests work?
5 parts
FTB Quests isn't a machine mod. The sources describe no power, fluid or multiblock systems for it. What it does have is a quest engine, a few blocks that submit items for you, and a lot of per-quest rules. This section covers what the sources confirm. The text I had to work from was cut off partway, so some options may be missing.[3]
Getting items in: task screens and chests
Item tasks can be fed automatically through a Task Screen. An item task has a setting that restricts submission to piping into a Task Screen. It only applies when the task is set to consume items. So if a quest author turns that on, you can't hand-submit those items, and you need to pipe them in.[3]
The mod also has a chest block with two descriptions. Its input side says to place items there to complete quests, and its output side says rewards will appear there.[3]
Task Screens come in four sizes: Task Screen (1x1), Task Screen (3x3), Task Screen (5x5) and Task Screen (7x7). There is also a Task Screen Configurator. The pack's recipes are below.[2]

Other items
The Quest Book is the Quest Book, and the pack crafts it with a shapeless recipe. The Loot Crate Opener is crafted as follows.[2]

How tasks are checked
- Inventory checks happen no more often than a minimum interval, measured in ticks, whenever your inventory changes. Higher values are easier on server TPS, but quest auto-completion messages arrive later.[3]
- Item tasks have three data-component matching modes. None ignores component data, Fuzzy only checks the components present in the filter stack, and Strict requires an exact match.[3]
- Sequential tasks, set on a chapter or overridden per quest, force you to finish tasks in the order they were added. A quest set to Default follows the chapter's setting.[3]
Progression and dependencies
Progression mode is a file-wide setting. In Linear mode, a quest must be complete before the quests depending on it can start. In Flexible mode, you can progress tasks in dependent quests at any time, but you can't complete them until their dependency is done.[3]
- Setting a quest's minimum required dependencies above 0 turns it into an OR quest, where only that many dependencies are needed to unlock it.[3]
- The maximum completable dependents setting, when above 0, caps how many dependents can be completed. The rest become unavailable, which is how authors build exclusive branches. Completing a quest in such a branch makes the other branches unavailable.[3]
- A quest can allow its tasks to be started without completing its dependencies.[3]
- Visibility options can hide a quest's details until it's startable, hide its text until it's complete, or hide the quest entirely until it's completed. Authors use that last one for easter-egg quests.[3]
- Repeatable quests have a cooldown in seconds. It counts from when you claim all the rewards until you can redo the tasks.[3]
Rewards
- A team reward is given once to the whole team, and only the submitting player receives it. If it's off, every online player gets the reward.[3]
- Individual rewards can be excluded from the Claim All button. That can't be changed for Loot, Random and Choice rewards.[3]
- An item reward can be set to give nothing if you already have that item, and it ignores NBT when checking.[3]
- Command rewards support vanilla selectors such as @p, plus {x}, {y}, {z}, {quest}, {chapter} and {team}. Their permission level runs from 0 (player) up to 4 (Server Owner).[3]
- A pack author can turn off all autoclaiming, including Claim All, to make sure testers actually read the quests.[3]
Unverified The pack's actual values for settings such as the detection delay and progression mode are not shown in the sources here, and there are no config files for this mod in the pack.
How do you progress through FTB Quests?
3 parts
The sources I have for FTB Quests in this pack show one real progression chain: the Task Screen sizes, from the smallest screen to the largest. Every other FTB Quests item here has its own single recipe.[2]
Quest Book and Loot Crate Opener
The Quest Book has its own crafting recipe in the pack.[2]
This is the pack's recipe for the Quest Book.
The Loot Crate Opener is also a simple craft in the pack.[2]

Task Screen sizes
Task Screens come in the sizes Task Screen (1x1), Task Screen (3x3), Task Screen (5x5) and Task Screen (7x7). Each larger size is crafted from the smaller screens, so you work up through them in order.[2]

Configuring screens
The Task Screen Configurator is made from a 1x1 screen, so you can craft it once you have your first screen.[2]

Unverified The sources here do not show any quest in this pack that involves FTB Quests items or guides you through them, so there is no quest-by-quest path in this section. Check the pack's quest book for anything beyond the recipes above.
