What is FTB Quests?
FTB Quests is the quest-book mod in this pack. The pack ships version 2101.1.0 (the NeoForge build), and it has been included since version 0.32 or earlier.[1]
The sources I have only show a small slice of the pack's quest data. One chapter is named "pneumaticcraft", and it contains a quest with the ID a quest in "?". That quest has no title, and its only task is the placeholder item Missing Item. It unlocks after another quest, 65E2AF881709C896.[2]
Unverified I couldn't confirm a general description of what the mod does, who it is aimed at, or where it sits in the pack's progression. The sources don't include that, and there is no in-jar guidebook to draw from. The sources also don't confirm that this mod is on the ATM Star quest path.
How do you get started with FTB Quests?
3 parts
Here's the honest starting point: the sources I have for this pack don't list any crafting recipes for FTB Quests itself, so there's no recipe to show you for a first item. Quests are a system you open and play through, not something you craft your way into. What I can confirm is how the quest screen behaves, so you know what to expect.[3]
How quests unlock
Quests are chained together by dependencies. The mod has two progression modes. In Linear mode, a quest must be complete before the quests that depend on it can start. In Flexible mode, you can work on the tasks of a dependent quest at any time, but you can't complete that quest until its dependency is done.[3]
Unverified Which progression mode this pack uses by default hasn't been confirmed from the sources, so check the first few quests in your own book before assuming you can skip ahead.
Some quests are also set up as OR quests, where only a certain number of their dependencies is needed to unlock them. Others can hide their details until you're able to start them, so a quest looking empty doesn't always mean something is broken.[3]
Turning in items and collecting rewards
If a quest uses a quest chest, the mod's own descriptions say you place items in the input side to complete quests, and rewards show up on the output side. Some item tasks can only be submitted by piping items into a Task Screen, and that only applies when the task consumes the items.[3]
A placeholder quest to know about
In the pneumaticcraft chapter there's an untitled quest, a quest in "?", that comes after another quest and whose only task is Missing Item. That item is a placeholder rather than a real item to craft, so it isn't a step you can do anything about. I can't confirm from the sources why it's set up that way.[2]
Unverified The recommended first items to craft in this pack, and their order, aren't covered by the available sources, so they're left out here rather than guessed.
How does FTB Quests work?
5 parts
FTB Quests has no power, fluid or multiblock systems that the sources describe. Its mechanics are about how quests unlock, how tasks get checked, and how items move in and out of quest blocks. This page covers what the available text confirms. The pack ships no config files for this mod, so I can't confirm which default values it changes.[3]
How quests unlock
The progression mode decides how dependencies work. In Linear mode, a quest must be complete before the quests that depend on it can start. In Flexible mode, you can progress tasks in dependent quests at any time, but those quests can't be completed until their dependency is.[3]
A quest can also be set up as an OR quest. If its minimum required dependencies is more than 0, only that many dependencies are needed to unlock it, and the separate dependency requirement setting is ignored. A quest can also be set to let you start its tasks without completing its dependencies.[3]
Tasks can be forced into order too. When sequential tasks are on, you must complete them in the strict order they were added to the quest. A quest can follow the chapter setting or override it.[3]
Visibility options
- Invisible: the quest stays hidden until you complete it, which suits optional easter-egg quests. If the extra setting is above 0, the quest shows up once that many tasks are done.[3]
- Hide details until startable: you can't view the quest's text and tasks until it can be started.[3]
- Hide text until complete: you can open the quest, but no description text appears until it's completed.[3]
Task checking
The game checks a player's inventory for quest progress when it changes, but only once per minimum interval, measured in ticks. Higher values are easier on server TPS, especially when inventories change often, but auto-completion messages arrive later.[3]
Item tasks have a match setting for item data components. None ignores component data. Fuzzy only checks the components present in the filter stack. Strict requires the filter stack's components to match the checked item exactly.[3]
Location tasks use a box. Your X must be at least the minimum X and less than X plus the width. Y and Z work the same way with height and depth. XP tasks can use XP points instead of levels.[3]
Item handling and automation
The quest chest block has two sides to its description. Items placed there complete quests, and rewards appear there.[3]
For automation, an item task that consumes items can be restricted to Task Screen only. In that case the items can only be submitted by piping into a Task Screen. The restriction only applies when Consume Items is on for that task.[3]
Rewards
- Claim All: a reward can be excluded from the Claim All button. This can't be changed for Loot, Random and Choice rewards.[3]
- Item rewards: an item reward can be set so that it isn't given if your inventory already has that item, ignoring NBT.[3]
- Command rewards: these support vanilla substitutions such as @p, plus {x}, {y}, {z}, {quest}, {chapter} and {team}. They can also be run as if the player had permission level 2.[3]
- Blocked rewards: the block_rewards command under /ftbquests can block rewards for a team. A quest can be set to offer its rewards anyway.[3]
- Loot crates: sneak and right-click to open all the crates in your hand.[3]
Unverified The pack's actual progression mode, detection delay, and any other defaults aren't confirmed by the sources. Crafting recipes for the mod's blocks and items, such as the Task Screen, also aren't confirmed.
How do you progress through FTB Quests?
The pack data I have for this part of the guide is very small, so this section is short on purpose. The only quest I can confirm is in the chapter named "pneumaticcraft", and I can't build a full tier-by-tier path from it.[2]
That quest is a quest in "?". It has no title in the pack files, and its single task uses Missing Item. It also has one prerequisite, so you have to finish another quest before it unlocks.[2]
Unverified The tier breakdown, the order of the quests in this chapter, and the rewards are not confirmed by the sources I have. The sources also don't show what the Missing Item task is meant to represent, so don't treat it as a real progression step yet.
How does FTB Quests work with other mods?
There isn't much to say about cross-mod integration here, and I'd rather be upfront about it. The sources for this pack don't include any recipes that mix FTB Quests items with items from other mods.[2]
The only link I can confirm is a chapter named "pneumaticcraft". It contains quest a quest in "?", which has no title and unlocks after quest 65E2AF881709C896. Its only task uses Missing Item, the placeholder item.[2]
That means the data I have doesn't show what this quest actually asks you to do. The chapter exists, but the quest itself doesn't tell us which item from the other mod you'd need to hand in.[2]
Unverified Which items from other mods the pneumaticcraft chapter's quests ask for, and whether FTB Quests has any other quest chapters or recipes tied to other mods in this pack, can't be confirmed from the available sources.
Which All the Mods 10 quests use FTB Quests?
The sources I have only show one quest chapter in the pack that touches this mod: the "pneumaticcraft" chapter. It's a very small section, so I'm keeping it short instead of guessing at the rest.[2]
The only quest listed in that chapter is a quest in "?", which has no title. It unlocks after another quest has been completed, so it isn't a starting point for the chapter.[2]
The task on this quest is an item task that uses Missing Item. That is the placeholder item FTB Quests shows when it can't find the item a task was supposed to use.[2]
Unverified What this quest actually wants you to hand in or do in-game isn't confirmed. The task shows only the placeholder item, and the sources don't say which item was meant, so I can't tell you what to craft or collect for it.
