What is FTB Quests?

This pack ships with FTB Quests at version 2101.1.0, built for NeoForge. It has been part of the pack since version 0.32 or earlier, so it isn't a recent addition.[1]

You'll mostly meet the mod through the pack's quest chapters. One example is the "tips_and_tricks" chapter, which holds a quest with no title, a quest in "?". Its only task uses Missing Item. The sources don't say what that quest is meant to teach you, so I won't guess at its purpose.[2]

Unverified The sources I had don't describe what the mod does in detail, who it is aimed at, or how it fits into the pack's progression. They also don't show it on the ATM Star path, so treat any claim about that as unconfirmed. I've left those parts out rather than guess.

How do you get started with FTB Quests?

3 parts

Good news: getting started with FTB Quests in this pack is simple. The first thing worth making is a Task Screen (1x1). It's the block you pipe items into so the quest book can take them for item-submission quests.[3][4]

Step 1: Make a Task Screen (1x1)

The pack adds its own crafting recipe for the 1x1 screen, so don't expect it to match what you may remember from the mod's defaults. Here is the exact in-pack recipe:[3]

Task Screen (1x1)Added by the pack

Crafting Shaped

Crafting Shaped

any stoneBookany stone
any stoneRedstoneany stone

Recipe id: allthemods:ftbquests/screem_1

Added by the pack.

Why bother? Some item tasks can be set so items may only be submitted by piping into a Task Screen. That option only applies when the task consumes items. If a quest refuses to take items from your inventory, a screen is what it's asking for.[4]

Step 2: Upgrade to the Task Screen (3x3)

Once you have a 1x1 screen, you can turn it into a Task Screen (3x3). The pack also adds this recipe, and it uses the 1x1 screen as its input.[3]

Task Screen (3x3)Added by the pack

Crafting Shaped

9 × Task Screen (1x1)

Recipe id: allthemods:ftbquests/screen_3

Added by the pack.

Tip: Make the 1x1 first. The 3x3 screen is crafted from it, so you can't skip that step.[3]

What I can't confirm yet

Unverified The sources don't show which quest to do first in this pack, how the early chapters are ordered, or whether the pack uses Linear or Flexible progression. The only quest data I have is a single untitled quest in the tips_and_tricks chapter, whose task is a Missing Item, so I can't say what it's for.

How does FTB Quests work?

5 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 2.23 guide

The sources for FTB Quests describe no machines, power, fluids or multiblocks. The closest thing to automation is the Task Screen, which lets you pipe items into a quest. Below is what the sources confirm.[5]

Task Screens and item automation

The Task Screen comes in two sizes, Task Screen (1x1) and Task Screen (3x3). An item task can be set so that items may only be submitted by piping them into a Task Screen. That option only applies when Consume Items is turned on for the task, so it's the one to check if your pipes aren't delivering.[5][6]

Both Task Screen recipes are added by the pack, so don't rely on what you remember from other modpacks. Here they are:[6]

Task Screen (1x1)Added by the pack

Recipe id: allthemods:ftbquests/screem_1

Task Screen (3x3)Added by the pack

Crafting Shaped

9 × Task Screen (1x1)

Recipe id: allthemods:ftbquests/screen_3

To link a screen to a quest, use the Task Screen Configurator. Sneak and right-click a Task Screen block with it to bind it.[5]

The mod also has a chest block. Its in-game descriptions say to place items in it to complete quests, and that rewards will appear in it.[5]

How item tasks are checked

Item tasks have a match setting for item component data, with three modes. None ignores component data. Fuzzy only checks the data components present in the filter stack. Strict requires the filter stack's components to match the checked item exactly.[5]

The mod checks a player's inventory when it changes, but only after a minimum interval measured in ticks. A higher value is kinder on server TPS, especially if inventories change often, but it means quest auto-completion messages arrive later.[5]

Quest order and unlocking

The file's progression mode decides how dependencies behave. In Linear mode, a quest must be complete before the quests that depend on it can start. In Flexible mode, you can progress tasks in dependent quests at any time, but those quests can't be completed until their dependency is.[5]

  • Min Required Dependencies: set it above 0 and the quest becomes an OR quest, which unlocks once only that many of its dependencies are done. The dependency requirement setting is ignored in that case.[5]
  • Require Sequential Tasks: when true, tasks must be completed in the strict order they were added to the quest. Leaving it on Default uses the chapter's setting.[5]
  • Tasks Ignore Dependencies: lets you start a quest's tasks without completing its dependencies.[5]

Visibility options

  • Hide details until startable: the quest's text and tasks can't be viewed until the quest can be started.[5]
  • Hide text until complete: the quest can be opened, but its description stays hidden until it's completed.[5]
  • Invisible: the quest is hidden from players until completed, which suits optional easter-egg quests. If you also set the invisible-until-tasks option above 0, the quest becomes visible once that many tasks are done.[5]

Rewards

  • Claim All: a reward can be excluded from the Claim All button. That setting can't be changed for Loot, Random and Choice reward types.[5]
  • Blocked rewards: the /ftbquests block_rewards command can block rewards for a team. A quest can be set to offer its rewards anyway.[5]
  • Item rewards: the only-one option skips the reward if your inventory already holds that item, and it ignores NBT.[5]
  • Command rewards: they support vanilla substitutions such as @p, plus {x}, {y}, {z}, {quest}, {chapter} and {team}. An elevate option runs the command as if the player had permission level 2.[5]
  • Loot crates: sneak and right-click one to open all the crates in your hand.[5]
Tip: Want a chapter to open on a particular quest? Set the chapter's autofocus ID to a Quest or Quest Link ID, and the view will center on that quest when the chapter opens. Use Copy Quest ID to get the ID.[5]

How do you progress through FTB Quests?

2 parts

I'll be upfront: the pack data I have for FTB Quests doesn't describe a tier-by-tier progression, so I'm not going to invent one. What I can confirm is small, and I'd rather give you that than pad this section.[2][3]

What the quest data shows

The only FTB Quests chapter I can see in this pack's data is called "tips_and_tricks". It holds a single quest, a quest in "?", which has no title. Its task uses Missing Item.[2]

Unverified What that quest is meant to teach, what it unlocks, and where the chapter sits in the overall progression are not confirmed by the available data. The pack's other chapters and tiers are not covered here either.

Task Screen recipes in this pack

The pack adds its own crafting recipes for the mod's task screens, so you can build them yourself. The Task Screen (1x1) comes first, and the Task Screen (3x3) is the larger version.[3]

Task Screen (1x1)Added by the pack

Crafting Shaped

Crafting Shaped

Recipe id: allthemods:ftbquests/screem_1

Added by the pack. The recipe id really is spelled "screem".

Task Screen (3x3)Added by the pack

Crafting Shaped

9 × Task Screen (1x1)

Recipe id: allthemods:ftbquests/screen_3

Added by the pack.

Tip: Both screen recipes are pack additions, so check the recipe blocks above instead of relying on what you remember from the mod's defaults.[3]

How does FTB Quests work with other mods?

I can't show you a real cross-mod connection for FTB Quests in this pack, because the pack data I have doesn't contain one.[2]

The only quest in the data is a quest in "?" in the "tips_and_tricks" chapter. It has no title, and its single task uses Missing Item. That item comes from FTB Quests itself, so it doesn't link the mod to any other mod.[2]

Unverified Whether any quests or recipes in this pack combine FTB Quests with items from other mods is unconfirmed. No cross-mod recipes or quest tasks were available to check, so I'm leaving that out rather than guessing.

Which All the Mods 10 quests use FTB Quests?

The sources I have only show one place where this mod appears in the quest book: the "tips_and_tricks" chapter. It holds a single quest, a quest in "?", which has no title.[2]

That quest has one task, and the task uses the item Missing Item. The data doesn't list any other tasks or rewards.[2]

Unverified I can't confirm what the quest is meant to teach you, what its dependencies are, or where it sits in the chapter's order. The sources list only this one quest, so there is no sequence to describe. I also can't confirm whether this mod's quests appear in any other chapter.
