What is Crafting on a Stick?

2 parts

Crafting on a Stick lets you use crafting stations without placing them in the world. Each station comes as its own "on a stick" item, and you use it in hand to open the matching interface wherever you are.[1]

The mod adds seven stations: Crafting Table, Anvil, Loom, Grindstone, Cartography Table, Stonecutter and Smithing Table. The three with ids in this pack are Crafting Table, Anvil and Smithing Table.[1][2]

Who it's for

It's for anyone who is tired of placing a crafting table down, picking it back up and carrying it around while exploring or mining. You carry one stick-mounted station and use it when you need it.[1]

It also works with Curios. Put your favorite station in the designated curios slot and press the keybind to open it. The default key is V.[1]

Where it fits in the pack

The pack includes version 1.21.0.1 of the mod, and it has been in the pack since 0.32 or earlier.[3]

The mod shows up early in the questbook. The main questline has quest a quest in "?" in its first part, with an item task for the crafting table on a stick. The tips and tricks chapter has quest a quest in "?", with item tasks for the crafting table, smithing table and anvil on a stick.[2][4]

Unverified The sources don't show where the mod sits on the ATM Star path, and it is not on that quest path. The sources also don't show what the quests above reward.

How do you get started with Crafting on a Stick?

4 parts

Crafting on a Stick lets you use workstations straight from your hand, so you never have to place a table on the ground. You use the item in hand to open the station. The mod covers the crafting table, anvil, loom, grindstone, cartography table, stonecutter and smithing table.[1]

Start with the crafting table on a stick

Make Crafting Table first. It is the task of the quest a quest in "?" in the first part of the main questline, so making it early moves your quest book along. It also lets you craft without placing a table.[1][4]

Add the smithing table and anvil

Next, make Smithing Table and Anvil. Together with the crafting table, these are the three tasks of the quest a quest in "?" in the tips and tricks chapter, so one quest covers all three.[2]

Keep them handy with Curios

The mod works with Curios. Put your favorite station in the designated curios slot and press the keybind to open it. The mod's default key is V. Whether the pack changes it is unverified, so check your controls menu.[1]

How does Crafting on a Stick work?

3 parts

This mod is simple, and that's the point. It has no machines, multiblocks, power or fluid systems. Each item is a vanilla crafting station on a stick, so you can use the station without placing a block in the world.[1]

Using a station on a stick

Hold the item and use it to open that station's interface. The mod adds seven stations: Crafting Table, Anvil, Loom, Grindstone, Cartography Table, Stonecutter and Smithing Table.[1][5]

The anvil also comes in worn versions, Chipped Anvil and Damaged Anvil. This pack has a recipe for each of them, so you can carry an anvil at any damage level.[5]

Crafting them

Each stick item is made by combining the vanilla version of that station with a stick. These recipes are shaped crafting recipes. Every recipe in this pack is shown below.[1][5]

Curios support

The mod works with Curios. Put your favorite station on a stick in the designated curios slot and press the keybind to open it. The default key is V.[1]

Tip: If you use one station all the time, like the crafting table, put it in the curios slot. You can then open it with a keypress without swapping items in your hotbar.[1]

Unverified Details beyond this aren't covered by the available sources. These include whether the pack has config options for the mod, and any extra behavior of the stations, such as how the anvil on a stick handles damage. The mod has no config files in this pack, and no in-jar guidebook or tooltips were available to check.

How do you progress through Crafting on a Stick?

3 parts

Crafting on a Stick doesn't have a ladder of tiers in this pack. What the pack data shows is a set of portable versions of vanilla stations, and the quests only ask you to make a few of them.[2][4][5]

What the quests ask for

So the first thing to make is the portable crafting table. The smithing table and anvil come next if you want to finish the Tips and Tricks quest.[2][4]

Each of these is a shaped crafting recipe added by the mod. The site shows the exact in-pack recipe below.[5]

Other stations in the pack

The pack also has recipes for Cartography Table, Grindstone, Loom and Stonecutter. No quest in the sources asks for these, so make them whenever you need them.[5]

How does Crafting on a Stick work with other mods?

2 parts

There's not much to report here. I couldn't find any in-pack recipes that combine items from this mod with items from other mods, so I won't guess at any crafting links.[2][4]

Where the pack's quests use it

The pack does bring this mod into its quest book. The quest a quest in "?" in the main questline (part 1) has a single task: obtain Crafting Table. That makes the crafting table on a stick part of your early progression.[4]

The quest a quest in "?" in the tips and tricks chapter asks for three items from this mod: Crafting Table, Smithing Table and Anvil.[2]

Curios support

The mod's own project page says it is compatible with Curios. You put a workbench on a stick in the designated Curios slot and press the keybind to open it. The default key is V.[1]

Unverified I couldn't confirm from the pack files whether Curios is installed in this pack, or whether the keybind has been changed. Check your controls menu before you rely on the Curios slot.

Which All the Mods 10 quests use Crafting on a Stick?

3 parts

Crafting on a Stick shows up in two quest chapters in the pack. Each has one quest, and both ask you to have the stick-style tools in hand.[2][4]

Main questline, part 1

In the chapter "mainquestline_part_1", quest a quest in "?" has a single task: get the Crafting Table. It is untitled in the pack files. It unlocks after another quest in the same chapter, so you reach it as part of the normal early progression.[4]

Tips and tricks

In the chapter "tips_and_tricks", quest a quest in "?" is also untitled. It has three tasks, one per item.[2]

No prerequisite quest is listed for this one, so it doesn't appear to be gated behind another quest.[2]

Suggested order

Follow the main questline first. The crafting table task there comes after an earlier quest in the chapter. The tips and tricks quest is a separate chapter with no listed prerequisite, so you can complete it whenever you have all three items. Since the crafting table is needed in both quests, one is enough to start on each.[2][4]

Unverified The quest files don't show titles, descriptions or rewards for these two quests, so what they give you on completion is unconfirmed.

What changed in Crafting on a Stick between versions?

All the Mods 10 1.5 ships Crafting on a Stick 1.21.0.1. The mod has been in the pack since All the Mods 10 0.32 or earlier, so it is an old friend of the pack.[3]

The one change in the mod's own changelog for 1.21.0.1 is that support for JEI and curios (now adorned) was readded. If you use the stick alongside those mods, that is the update that brought the support back.[6]

I have no pack changelog entries for this mod, so I can't tell you about any other changes between pack releases.[3]
