What is Create: Bells & Whistles?
2 parts
Create: Bells & Whistles is an add-on for Create that focuses on the player experience. Its project page describes 36 new decorative and utility blocks, and most of them are there to dress up your trains and stations. This pack ships version 0.4.7-1.21.1.[1][2]
What it adds
- A Station Platform block, sized for train or subway platforms. It can be crafted or made in a stonecutter.[1]
- The Headlight, which can be placed on all faces of a block.[1]
- A Metro palette for subway or light rail cars: Metro Casing, Corrugated Metro Casing, Metro Panel, Corrugated Metro Panel, Metro Trapdoor and Metro Window.[1]
- Grab bars such as Andesite Grab Bars, Brass Grab Bars and Copper Grab Bars. They behave like ladders and work on trains.[1]
- Bogie steps such as Andesite Steps, Brass Steps and Copper Steps. They extend 1 block below where you place them, behave like ladders and work on trains.[1]
- Door steps such as Andesite Door Step, Brass Door Step and Copper Door Step, which can be placed on any block.[1]
- An Ornate Iron Trapdoor, which the project page suggests for windows.[1]
- Train pilot blocks in many materials, including Andesite Pilot, Brass Pilot, Copper Pilot, Metal Pilot and a long run of polished stone variants like Polished Deepslate Pilot.[1][3]
Where it sits in the quest book
The pack's quest book covers this mod inside the "Create Addons" chapter. That chapter is in the "Tech" group, is chapter 31 of 67 in the book, and holds 50 quests shared between several Create add-ons.[3]
The Bells & Whistles quests all branch off "Decorating Trains" quest, a train-decoration quest that asks for the Railway Casing. Three quests that follow it use this mod: "A Headlight" quest (the headlight, for seeing ahead of your train in the dark), a quest in "Create Addons" (ladders, steps and grab bars, which all work the same with different looks, while door steps just act like a tiny ledge) and "Cowcatchers" quest (the pilots, for building older-style trains).[3]
Three other quests also follow the decoration quest but are not from this mod: "A Chimney!" quest, "Train Shaped?" quest and "Train Doors" quest.[3]
Unverified Whether the ATM Star quest path uses this mod is not shown by the sources here. Check the quest book itself, and note that part of the "Create Addons" chapter text was not available to this guide.
How do you get started with Create: Bells & Whistles?
4 parts
Create: Bells & Whistles is about dressing up your Create trains. In this pack its quests sit in the "Create Addons" chapter of the Tech group, and they all hang off the "Decorating Trains" quest "Decorating Trains" quest. That quest is your starting point. Here is the order I'd go in.[1][3]
Headlights first
You want to see where your train is going, so the first Bells & Whistles quest after Decorating Trains is "A Headlight" quest, which asks for the Headlight. It can be placed on all faces of a block. The pack changed this recipe, and one craft gives you 2 Headlights.[1][3][4]

Steps and grab bars
Next, get up onto the train. The a quest in "Create Addons" quest accepts Create ladders as well as the Steps, Grab Bars and Door Steps from this mod. Steps and Grab Bars work the same as ladders, only the looks differ. Door Steps are different: they act like a tiny ledge. Steps extend 1 block below where you place them, and Grab Bars work on trains.[1][3]

Brass and Copper versions of all three exist too, such as Brass Steps and Copper Grab Bars. Like the Andesite ones, they can be crafted or made in a stonecutter.[1][4][5]
Cowcatchers
If you are building an older-style train, the "Cowcatchers" quest quest is for you. It accepts any of the pilot blocks. The simplest is the Andesite Pilot. The recipes for the Brass Pilot, Copper Pilot and Metal Pilot were changed by the pack.[3][4]

Last, the Station Platform is sized for train and subway platforms. It can be crafted or made in a stonecutter, and either way you get 2.[1][4]
How does Create: Bells & Whistles work?
6 parts
Create: Bells & Whistles is an add-on for Create that adds 36 decorative and utility blocks, so there is no machine, power or fluid system to learn here. Everything below is about how the blocks behave when you place them and how you get them.[1]
Station Platform
The Station Platform is sized to fit train or subway platforms. You can craft it or make it in a stonecutter, and both routes give you 2 platforms per craft.[1][4]
Crafting route, 2 Station Platforms per craft.
Stonecutter route, also 2 per craft.
Climbing and boarding blocks
Grab Bars (Andesite, Brass and Copper) behave like ladders and work on trains. Bogie Steps come in the same three materials, also behave like ladders and work on trains, and extend 1 block below where you place them.[1][5]
The Door Step blocks can be placed on literally any block. All three kinds can be crafted or made in a stonecutter.[1]
Crafting and stonecutting give different amounts, so check which you want. For Andesite Steps, crafting gives 6 and the stonecutter gives 4. Brass Steps and Copper Steps give 6 from crafting and 3 from the stonecutter. For Andesite Door Step, crafting gives 8 and the stonecutter gives 6.[4]

The Metro palette
The Metro palette is made for building subway or light rail cars. It has Metro Casing, Corrugated Metro Casing, Metro Panel, Corrugated Metro Panel, Metro Trapdoor and Metro Window.[1][5]
Everything starts from Metro Casing. The pack changed the recipe that makes it, so each craft gives 4 casings. The pack also changed the Metro Window recipe, which gives 6 windows per craft.[4]

The Ornate Iron Trapdoor is good for windows. One craft gives you 6 trapdoors.[1][4]
Crafts 6 Ornate Iron Trapdoors.
Train pilots
Train pilots come in these materials: Andesite Alloy, Brass, Copper, Metal (textured like Create's Metal Girder and Metal Bracket), and Polished Andesite, Granite, Diorite, Deepslate, Tuff, Calcite, Limestone, Scoria, Scorchia, Crimsite, Ochrum, Veridium and Asurine.[1][5]
In this pack there is also a sandpaper polishing recipe, added by Create: Dragons Plus, that turns an Andesite Pilot into a Polished Andesite Pilot.[4]
Sandpaper Polishing (create)
Recipe id: create_dragons_plus:sandpaper_polishing/bellsandwhistles/andesite_pilot
Added by the pack: polish an Andesite Pilot with sandpaper.
How do you progress through Create: Bells & Whistles?
5 parts
Create: Bells & Whistles is a decoration mod, so you won't find a long tech ladder here. The pack's quest book puts it in the "Create Addons" chapter (group "Tech", chapter 31 of 67), and its items all hang off one quest: "Decorating Trains" quest. That quest sets the theme, which is making trains look good, and the Bells & Whistles quests follow it.[3]
The quest path
Everything below unlocks after "Decorating Trains" quest, and these quests sit side by side, so you can take them in any order. Besides the Bells & Whistles ones, the same quest also leads to Create quests for the chimney, train doors and Framed Blocks shapes.[3]
- "A Headlight" quest: asks for the Headlight, so you can see ahead of the train in the dark.[3]
- a quest in "Create Addons": accepts any of Create's ladders or the Bells & Whistles steps, door steps and grab bars, in andesite, brass or copper. Steps and grab bars work like ladders with different looks, while door steps just act as a tiny ledge.[3]
- "Cowcatchers" quest: accepts any of the cowcatchers (pilots), from the plain Andesite Pilot up to the polished stone pilots. The quest says they suit older trains.[3]
Material tiers: steps, door steps and grab bars
These come in andesite, brass and copper, and the quest treats the three as the same thing in different looks. Brass and copper steps, grab bars and door steps can also be cut at the stonecutter. Here is the andesite and brass step recipe to show the pattern.[3][4]

How does Create: Bells & Whistles work with other mods?
2 parts
Create: Bells & Whistles is an add-on for Create, so almost everything it does ties back to Create. In this pack that shows up in two places: the crafting recipes, which lean on Create's own blocks and materials, and the train-decorating quests in the quest book.[1][3][4]
Recipes built on Create items
The andesite tier of Andesite Steps, Andesite Door Step and Andesite Grab Bars is made from Andesite Alloy. Each one has a normal crafting recipe and a stonecutter recipe, and the stonecutter gives you fewer pieces per craft. Andesite Pilot is also made from andesite alloy, while every polished pilot, from Polished Andesite Pilot to Polished Asurine Pilot, has its own recipe built from Create's polished cut blocks and their stairs.[4]

Train quests in the Create Addons chapter
The pack's quest book covers the mod in the "Create Addons" chapter, in the Tech group. The starting point for train building is the "Decorating Trains" quest quest, which asks for Create's Railway Casing and gives tips for making trains look good. The headlight, steps and cowcatcher quests all come after it.[3]
- "A Chimney!" quest: asks for a Create Chute, which the quest suggests as the chimney of a steam locomotive.[3]
- "A Headlight" quest: asks for the Headlight so you can see ahead of the train in the dark. The quest also says plenty of light sources from other mods work too.[3]
- a quest in "Create Addons": accepts Create's ladders or this mod's steps, door steps and grab bars. The quest says ladders, steps and grab bars all work the same with different looks, while door steps just act like a tiny ledge.[3]
- "Cowcatchers" quest: accepts any of the mod's pilots, which the quest describes as cowcatchers for older-style trains.[3]
- "Train Shaped?" quest: asks for a Framed Cube from FramedBlocks, to help shape steam locomotives, modern trains and bullet trains. The quest recommends the slopes, buttons and trapdoors.[3]
Unverified The Create Addons chapter has 50 quests, and the text of 33 of them is not shown in the sources here. If other quests in that chapter involve Bells & Whistles items, they are in the quest book.
Which All the Mods 10 quests use Create: Bells & Whistles?
3 parts
Create: Bells & Whistles shows up in one place in the quest book: the "Create Addons" chapter, in the Tech group (chapter 31 of 67). That chapter has 50 quests covering several Create addons, and the train decoration ones are the ones that matter here.[3]
Start with Decorating Trains
Everything for this mod hangs off "Decorating Trains" quest. It asks for a Railway Casing (Train Casing) and sets the tone: making trains is easy, making them look good is the hard part. The quests below all come after it.[3]
The Bells & Whistles quests
- "A Headlight" quest asks for the Headlight. The quest says you'll want to see ahead of the train in the dark, and that plenty of light sources from other mods work too.[3]
- a quest in "Create Addons" accepts any one of several items: Create's own ladders, the bogie steps, the door steps or the grab bars. The bogie steps come in andesite, brass and copper, for example Andesite Steps and Copper Steps. The door steps and grab bars come in the same three materials, for example Brass Door Step and Brass Grab Bars. Ladders, steps and grab bars all work the same, just with different looks. The door steps are different: they only act like a tiny ledge.[3]
- "Cowcatchers" quest is the Cowcatchers quest, and it accepts any one of the pilot blocks. That covers the andesite, brass, copper and metal pilots, plus the polished stone variants such as Polished Andesite Pilot and Polished Deepslate Pilot. The quest says old trains are recognisable for the cowcatchers on the front, and that most newer trains don't use them. It's aimed at builds of older trains.[3]
Neighbouring quests
Three more quests unlock after Decorating Trains but ask for items from other mods. "A Chimney!" quest suggests a Chute as a steam locomotive chimney. "Train Shaped?" quest points you at Framed Blocks for train shapes, and recommends the slopes, buttons and trapdoors. "Train Doors" quest covers Create's train doors.[3]
