What is FramedBlocks?
3 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
FramedBlocks is a building mod. It adds blocks in lots of different shapes that can be made to look like almost any other block in the game. If you like detailed builds, this is the mod that lets you get the shape you want in the material you want.[1]
This pack includes FramedBlocks version 10.6.1.[2]
What you get
The shape list is huge. Besides the basic Framed Cube, you get slopes, corner slopes, prisms, slabs, panels, stairs, walls, fences, doors, trapdoors, pressure plates, buttons, levers, signs, torches, ladders, chests, bars, panes, rail slopes and more. Many shapes also have double, divided or flat-corner variants.[1]
How you use it
- Right click a framed block with almost any solid block to make it look like that block.[1]
- Right click with Glowstone Dust to make the framed block produce light.[1]
- Right click with a Framed Hammer to remove the camo.[1]
- The Framed Wrench rotates framed blocks, and the Framed Screwdriver cycles through different states of the camo block.[1]
- The Framed Blueprint copies framed blocks, including their camo and glowing state. It does not copy the rotation of the block itself.[1]
Config defaults to know about
The project page lists some mod defaults. Applying a camo consumes the item and removing it drops the item again. Blocks with block entities can't be placed inside framed blocks, and the intangibility feature (Phantom Membrane by default) is switched off. These are the mod's defaults, not confirmed values for this pack.[1]
Unverified The sources don't show where FramedBlocks fits into this pack's progression. No quests involving it and no ATM Star path entry were confirmed, and no in-jar guidebook was found. Whether the pack changes any of its recipes or config values is also unconfirmed.
How do you get started with FramedBlocks?
4 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
FramedBlocks gives you building blocks in lots of shapes that can be made to look like almost any other block in the game. In this pack a lot of them start from one basic block, so your first steps are short and easy to follow.[1]
Step 1: Make a Framed Cube
The Framed Cube is the base of the mod. Many other framed blocks are crafted from it, so make it first.[3]

This is the starting point for many of the framed blocks in the pack.
Step 2: Pick your first tools
- Make a Framed Axe. Framed blocks broken with it keep their camo instead of dropping it separately, so you don't lose the look you built.[3][4]
- Make a Framed Blueprint if you plan to copy builds. It tells you when materials are missing, and it can't copy blocks with fluid camos.[3][4]
- Get a Framed Hammer. Hitting framed blocks with it toggles options such as waterlogging, copycat-style appearance and trapdoor texture rotation. Several recipes also use it, like the Framed Corner Slope and the Framed Centered Slab.[3][4]

Step 3: Craft useful blocks straight from the cube
Once you have cubes, you can make functional blocks directly from them. The Framed Chest, Framed Door, Framed Bars, Framed Button and Framed Collapsible Block each have a recipe that uses a Framed Cube.[3]
The Framed Collapsible Block is also a stepping stone. The Framed Adjustable Double Slab and Framed Adjustable Double Panel are crafted from it.[3]
Step 4: Grow into more shapes
After that, build up through the shapes. A Framed Slab becomes a Framed Double Slab, and a Framed Slope becomes a Framed Double Slope or, combined with an activator rail, a Framed Activator Rail Slope.[3]

The mod also lists many more shapes, such as stairs, panels, prisms and pillars, and you can work through them the same way once you have the basics.[1]
How does FramedBlocks work?
6 parts
FramedBlocks has no machines, multiblocks or power to wire up. It adds building blocks in many shapes that can be made to look like almost any other block, so the mechanics come down to how you apply, remove, rotate and copy those looks.[1]
Applying and removing camo
- Right click a framed block with almost any solid block to make it look like that block.[1]
- Right click it with a fluid container to make it look like the fluid inside. An empty fluid container removes a fluid camo again.[1]
- Right click it with Glowstone Dust to make it produce light.[1]
- Right click it with a Framed Hammer to remove the camo.[1]
The Framed Glowing Cube is a separate block that glows in the dark without emitting light, so it is not the same as the Glowstone Dust trick.[1]
Tools that change a placed block
- The Framed Wrench, or any other wrench-tagged item, rotates a framed block. On most blocks the result depends on which face you click.[1]
- The Framed Screwdriver cycles through different states of the camo block.[1]
- Prism, Inner Prism and Double Prism Corner blocks switch on a texture offset automatically, based on where you place them. That keeps prism corners lining up when you build a big surface. If you don't want it, left click the block with the Framed Hammer to toggle the offset.[1]
Copying builds with the Blueprint
The Framed Blueprint copies a framed block including its camo and glowing state. It does not copy the rotation of the block itself, so you still orient each copy yourself.[1]

What you get back when you break one
Framed blocks keep their camo when they drop. In the loot tables available here (for example Framed Button, Framed Chest and Framed Activator Rail Slope), the dropped item copies the camo list from the block entity whenever the camo is non-trivial. The drop can still be lost to explosion decay.[6][7][8]
The loot tables for the checkered cube, panel and slab segments contain no drop pools at all, so the segment blocks themselves do not drop anything.[9][10][11]
Crafting, the framing saw and rotating shapes
Most framed shapes start from the Framed Cube, which you craft from sticks and planks.[5]

The Framed Cube is the base ingredient for many other framed blocks.
Besides normal crafting, the pack has 161 recipes of the framedblocks:frame type. Their ids sit under framing_saw, and each one makes a different framed block. Some of them take no item inputs at all, like the Framed Adjustable Double Slab, while others take an ordinary item, like the activator rail for the Framed Activator Rail Slope.[5]

How do you progress through FramedBlocks?
7 parts
There is no formal tier ladder for FramedBlocks in this pack. What you get instead is a clear crafting progression that starts from one item, the Framed Cube, and a quest book that points you at it early. Here is how it fits together.[5][12]
Where the quest book puts it
The "Framed Blocks" quest quest sits in the Building Tips chapter, chapter 3 of 67 in the book. The path to it runs from "Building Tips!" quest to "Tools!" quest to "Changing Blocks" quest, and then Framed Blocks. Its neighbours that unlock from Changing Blocks are "Chisel Reborn" quest, "Chipped" quest, "Domun Ornamentum" quest, "Rechiseled" quest and "Camol" quest.[12]
The quest text calls it the single most important building mod. It describes framed blocks as mock blocks you can fill with any block that isn't a block entity (things like a crafting table or furnace), in shapes such as vertical slabs, slopes and quarter blocks.[12]
There is a second quest, "Train Shaped?" quest, in the Create Addons chapter (group Tech), unlocked after Decorating Trains. It asks for a Framed Cube and recommends the slopes, buttons and trapdoors for building train shapes.[13]
Unverified 18 of the 50 quests in the Create Addons chapter are not shown in the sources here, so any other Framed Blocks mentions in them are unverified. Check that chapter in the quest book.
Stage 1: the Framed Cube
Everything starts here. A lot of the pack's crafting recipes take the cube as an ingredient.[5]

Stage 2: one step from the cube
These blocks need the cube plus little else, so they are the easy early wins.[5]
- Framed Button is a simple shapeless craft.[5]
- Framed Bars gives 16 per craft.[5]
- Framed Fence gives 3 per craft, and Framed Fence Gate makes a single gate.[5]
- Framed Reinforcement gives 16 per craft.[5]
- Framed Bookshelf, Framed Bouncy Cube, Framed Tank, Framed Axe and Framed Blueprint are each crafted from the cube with a few extras.[5]

Stage 3: collapsible and copycat blocks
The next step up is the Framed Collapsible Copycat Block, which gives 4 per craft. From it you make the Framed Adjustable Double Copycat Panel and Framed Adjustable Double Copycat Slab, 2 per craft each. The Framed Adjustable Double Panel and Framed Adjustable Double Slab work the same way, 2 per craft from a Framed Collapsible Block.[5]

Stage 4: rails and slopes
The fancy rails come 6 per craft, for example the Framed Fancy Powered Rail. Their slope versions are made from the flat fancy rail. The plain rail slopes, like the Framed Powered Rail Slope, combine a Framed Slope with the matching vanilla rail.[5]

Which All the Mods 10 quests use FramedBlocks?
3 parts
FramedBlocks has its own quest in the pack's quest book, plus a second one in a Create chapter. A third quest only compares another mod's item to it.[12][13][14]
Building Tips: the main Framed Blocks quest
The main quest is "Framed Blocks" quest, in the Building Tips chapter (chapter 3 of 67 in the book, 90 quests). The chapter opens with "Building Tips!" quest, and the route to Framed Blocks runs through it.[12]
- "Building Tips!" quest is the chapter's starting quest.[12]
- "Tools!" quest comes next and asks for a stick. Its text is about tools for getting, changing and placing blocks.[12]
- "Changing Blocks" quest follows. It covers mods that turn blocks you already have into different shapes, designs or entirely new blocks.[12]
- "Framed Blocks" quest unlocks after Changing Blocks.[12]
The quest text calls Framed Blocks the single most important building mod. It describes the blocks as mock blocks that you fill in with any block that is not a block entity (the examples given are the crafting table, furnace and Enrichment Chamber). The shapes it lists include vertical slabs, slopes and quarter blocks.[12]
Several other block-changing quests unlock after Changing Blocks too: "Chisel Reborn" quest, "Chipped" quest, "Domun Ornamentum" quest, "Rechiseled" quest and "Camol" quest. If you want to compare the alternatives, they sit right beside Framed Blocks.[12]
Create Addons: Train Shaped?
The other quest is "Train Shaped?" quest, in the Create Addons chapter (Tech group, chapter 31 of 67, 50 quests). It asks you to hand in a Framed Cube, and it unlocks after "Decorating Trains" quest, the train-decoration quest that asks for Create's railway casing.[13]
The text says there is no easy way to build steam locomotives, modern trains or bullet trains out of plain blocks, so Framed Blocks make those shapes much easier. It recommends the slopes, buttons and trapdoors.[13]
Decorating Trains has several other follow-ups: "A Chimney!" quest, "A Headlight" quest, a quest in "Create Addons", "Cowcatchers" quest and "Train Doors" quest.[13]
A side mention in Modular Routers
The Modular Routers chapter (Logistics group, chapter 22 of 67) has a quest in "Modular Routers", which unlocks after "Upgrades" quest. It does not ask for anything from Framed Blocks. Its text only says the upgrade makes the router similar to a Framed Block: sneak right click a block to copy its look.[14]
Only 18 of the 54 quests in the Modular Routers chapter are shown in the sources I had. The rest of that chapter is in the quest book.[14]
Which FramedBlocks config options matter?
4 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
All the options below live in the client config, so they only change what you see and how the mod displays things on your own machine. The file shows the values this pack ships, but it only labels a mod default for one option. For everything else, I can't tell you whether the pack changed it from the default.[15]
Placement preview
- general.showGhostBlocks is true in this pack. The config describes it as whether ghost blocks are shown when you are holding a framed block.[15]
- general.ghostRenderOpacity is 170. That matches the mod default of 170, so the pack did not change it. The config describes the range as 30 (almost completely transparent) to 255 (fully opaque).[15]
- general.altGhostRenderer is false. The config describes it as an alternate renderer for the placement preview that may solve issues with certain shaders, so it's worth trying if the preview misbehaves with your shaders.[15]
Camo and connected textures
- general.conTexMode is set to DETAILED, the highest level. According to the config, DETAILED supports connected textures on most faces when interacting with other framed blocks. It also warns that anything above FULL_EDGE is at your own risk because of performance impact and unexpected behaviour. If you see lag or odd textures, you could try FULL_EDGE or lower.[15]
- general.conTexDisabled is an empty list. The option is meant to disable connected textures support for the listed mod IDs, so none are listed here.[15]
- general.camoMessageVerbosity is DEFAULT. At that level the config says a message is shown when a block has a BlockEntity and isn't explicitly allowed, or when the block is explicitly disallowed. DETAILED adds messages for blocks that are non-solid and not explicitly allowed.[15]
- general.solidFrameMode is DEFAULT. The config says that at this setting certain blocks use the default frame texture with a solid background texture when they have no camo.[15]
- general.renderItemModelsWithCamo is true. The config says item models are then rendered with their camo, if present.[15]
Mod integration and visuals
- general.renderCamoInJade is true. The config says framed blocks will be rendered with their camo in Jade, otherwise they will be rendered blank.[15]
- general.showAllRecipePermutationsInEmi is true. The config says that when true, all possible recipes of the Framing Saw will be added to EMI, otherwise only the permutations using the Framed Cube will be added. It only has an effect when EMI is installed.[15]
- general.detailedCulling is true. The config says that when true, all outer faces of framed blocks can be culled, while false culls only full block faces.[15]
- general.forceAoOnGlowingBlocks is true. The config says ambient occlusion is then applied to framed blocks that glow from applied glowstone dust.[15]
- general.slopeEdgeLegacyModel is true. The config says that when true, all framed slope edge variants use the legacy model.[15]
- general.fancyHitboxes is true. The config describes it as whether certain framed blocks should show fancy hitboxes.[15]
- general.discreteUVSteps is true. The config says that when true, the UV remapping will use discrete steps to avoid floating point errors.[15]
Overlays
In this pack's file, every overlay option is set to DETAILED. That covers overlay.camoRotationMode, overlay.itemFrameBackgroundMode, overlay.oneWayWindowMode, overlay.prismOffsetMode, overlay.reinforcedMode, overlay.splitLineMode, overlay.stateLockMode, overlay.toggleWaterlogMode and overlay.toggleYSlopeMode.[15]
What changed in FramedBlocks between versions?
3 parts
All the Mods 10 8.3 ships FramedBlocks 10.6.3. The mod has been in the pack since 0.32 or earlier, and it has been updated many times since. Here is how the version moved, then the changes worth knowing about.[16]
Version bumps by pack release
- Pack 2.30: FramedBlocks went from 10.2.3 to 10.2.4.[17]
- Pack 2.38: 10.2.4 to 10.2.5.[18]
- Pack 2.40: 10.2.5 to 10.3.1.[19]
- Pack 2.47: 10.3.1 to 10.3.2.[20]
- Pack 4.6: 10.3.2 to 10.4.0.[21]
- Pack 4.13: 10.4.0 to 10.5.0.[22]
- Pack 4.15: 10.5.0 to 10.5.1.[23]
- Pack 6.0: 10.5.1 to 10.5.3.[24]
- Pack 7.1: 10.5.3 to 10.6.0.[25]
- Pack 7.2: 10.6.0 to 10.6.1.[26]
- Pack 8.2: 10.6.1 to 10.6.2.[27]
Notable changes in the mod's own changelogs
Version 10.2.0 was a big one. It added the Framed Tank, the Framed Chain and double chest support for the framed chest. Intangibility also switched from a configurable item to a custom craftable item, and JEI integration was added for the camo application recipe.[28]
- 10.2.4 added the Framed (Soul) Lantern.[29]
- 10.2.5 added items and recipes for Double Slabs and Double Panels, made the Framed Tube rotatable, and added the Framed Corner Tube.[30]
- 10.3.2 let wrenches from other mods work in shape rotation recipes without being consumed, and allowed toggling redstone lamps when they are applied as a camo.[31]
- 10.4.0 added the Framed Hopper, the Framed Layered Cube, the Framed Elevated Pyramid Slab and the Framed Stacked Pyramid Slab. It also made Pyramids connect to Posts, (Half) Pillars, Walls and Fences, and allowed placing the mini cube on the underside of blocks.[32]
- 10.5.0 added the Framed Lightning Rod, Framed Pillar Socket, Framed Split Pillar Socket and Framed Path, plus a global overlay display mode config.[33]
- 10.6.0 added the Framed Axe, which retains all camos on framed blocks broken with it. Fluid camos became orientable, and a CopperAgeBackport bug that made Framed Lightning Rods oxidize was fixed.[34]
What 10.6.3 fixes
The version in this pack is a fixes release. It corrects occlusion on the vertical faces of Framed Walls and on the corner faces of the Framed Corner Strip. It also fixes the Framed Fluid Tank voiding its contents when you drain everything at once, for example by taking out the last 1000mB with a bucket.[35]
