What is Ars Technica?
Ars Technica is part of the pack, and this version ships Ars Technica 2.3.0 (the file is ars_technica-1.21.1-2.3.0.jar). It has been in the pack since version 2.47 or earlier, so it isn't a recent addition.[1]
Unverified The sources I have don't describe what Ars Technica adds, who it suits, or where it fits in the pack's progression. There is no mod description or in-jar guidebook to draw on. I also can't confirm any pack-specific recipe, config or quest changes for it, or whether it sits on the ATM Star path. I'm leaving those details out rather than guessing, so check in-game before you plan a build around this mod.
How do you get started with Ars Technica?
6 parts
Ars Technica's recipes in this pack mix Ars Nouveau and Create ingredients, and one crafted component shows up again and again. So that is where you start, and the rest of this section follows what builds on it.[2]
Start with the Calibrated Precision Mechanism
The Calibrated Precision Mechanism is an ingredient in the recipes for the Source Motor, Runic Spanner, Spy Monocle, Focus of Transmutation, Mark of Technomancy and the Pressure thread. It is made at an Enchanting Apparatus, not on a crafting table.[2]
Enchanting Apparatus (ars_nouveau)
Recipe id: ars_technica:calibrated_precision_mechanism
The mod also has an advancement for acquiring it, so you will know when you have your first one.[3]
Build a Source Motor
The Source Motor converts Source into rotational force, so it is how you drive Create machinery with magic. It must be supplied with a nearby Source Jar. You adjust the RPM on the sides of the motor, and right-clicking elsewhere adjusts the SU-to-RPM ratio. Changing that ratio changes how much Source the motor needs.[3]

Pick up the small tools
The ars_technica:runic_spanner and the Spy Monocle are both Enchanting Apparatus recipes that use the mechanism, and the mod has an advancement for each.[2][3]

Learn the processing glyphs
Ars Technica adds spell glyphs that work on item entities, so your spells can do Create-style jobs. Glyph Press flattens items into their pressed variants, Glyph Polish refines them into polished variants, and Glyph Whirl creates a whirlwind that centrifuges items.[2][3]
The pack changed the recipes for Glyph Obliterate and Glyph Pack, so do not rely on the mod defaults for those two.[2][3]

Make the Focus of Transmutation
The Focus of Transmutation augments spells with Luck and improves several glyphs. Its tooltip lists 2x speed for Press, Polish and Whirl, 2x items processed by Press and Polish, and 2x damage from Obliterate. The pack changed its recipe from the mod default.[2][3]

How does Ars Technica work?
7 parts
Ars Technica ties Ars Nouveau spellcasting to Create. Most of what the sources describe is not a big multiblock machine. It is a set of spell glyphs that process item entities in the world, plus the Source Motor, which turns Source into rotation. Here is how those pieces work in this pack.[3]
Source Motor: Source to rotation
The Source Motor converts Source into rotational force, so it is your bridge from Ars Nouveau power into a Create contraption. It needs a nearby Source Jar to supply it.[3]
- Adjust the RPM on the sides of the motor.[3]
- Right-click elsewhere on the motor to adjust the SU-to-RPM ratio.[3]
- Changing the SU-to-RPM ratio changes the amount of Source the motor needs, so tune it with your Source supply in mind.[3]

Processing item entities with glyphs
Several glyphs act on item entities lying in the world instead of on items in a machine. You cast the spell, and the glyph collects and processes the nearby drops. The AOE augment generally widens how much is caught.[3]
- Glyph Press flattens item entities into their pressed variants. AOE increases the number of item entities processed.[2][3]
- Glyph Polish refines item entities into their polished variants. AOE increases the number processed.[2][3]
- Glyph Pack condenses identical item entities into 2x2 recipes. Amplify changes the recipe grid to 3x3, Dampen changes it to 1x1, and AOE increases the area where item entities are collected.[2][3]
- Glyph Carve cuts identical item entities into stairs, and works on stone and wood only. Amplify changes the recipe to walls, Dampen changes it to slabs, and AOE increases the collection area.[2][3]
- Glyph Fuse slams item entities together to fuse them. Use Smelt for heated mixing, or Glyph Superheat for super-heated mixing. AOE increases the amount of items processed.[2][3]
- Glyph Whirl creates a whirlwind that centrifuges item entities. Combine it with water, flare, smelt or hex to wash, smoke, blast or haunt items. AOE increases the size and range, and Extend Time increases the duration.[2][3]
Unverified The glyph description says Superheat for super-heated mixing works only if it is enabled in config. The sources here include no Ars Technica config file, so whether it is enabled in this pack is not shown. Test it in your world before you build around it.
Obliterate
Glyph Obliterate hits foes with an arcane hammer. Amplify increases the hammer's size and damage. Fortune adds 25% per level to the chance of extra items from crushing recipes. Sensitive makes it process item entities instead of destroying them.[2][3]
The pack changed the recipes for both Obliterate and Glyph Pack, so don't rely on what you remember from the base mod.[2]

Moving items and liquids
- Glyph Insert puts item entities into nearby containers in a medium radius around where the spell is activated. The Split augment spreads the items evenly across all valid containers.[2][3]
- Glyph Apply uses the item in your offhand to do Manual Item Application or Deploy on blocks or items. Non-player casters use adjacent inventories instead of the offhand. AOE increases the number of items applied and the area, and Pierce increases the depth of blocks affected.[2][3]
- Glyph Telefeast consumes the first edible or potion, or some amount of liquid, in the container or tank you cast it on. With Pierce it carries the item in a bubble and uses it on contact with a living entity. With Sensitive it will try to use non-food items such as experience gems.[2][3]
Experience gems
The Giant Experience Gem and Gargantuan Experience Gem are shapeless crafting steps up from Ars Nouveau's Greater Experience Gem. The Giant gem can also be crafted back from the Gargantuan one.[2]

- +1 Luck Augment per glyph in your spell.[3]
- 2x chance-based item outputs from Crush, Obliterate and Whirl.[3]
- 2x damage dealt by Obliterate.[3]
- 2x items processed by Press and Polish.[3]
- 2x speed for Press, Polish and Whirl.[3]

How do you progress through Ars Technica?
5 parts
Unverified The sources here show no quest chapter covering this mod, so the order below follows the in-pack recipes instead of the quest book.
Ars Technica sits between Ars Nouveau and Create. Its recipes are made at Ars Nouveau's Enchanting Apparatus, through glyph crafting and through armor upgrades, and many of them need Create parts. So the progression is really about which item unlocks which.[2]
Start here: the Calibrated Precision Mechanism
The Calibrated Precision Mechanism is the key component. It is an ingredient in the Source Motor, ars_technica:runic_spanner, Spy Monocle, Pressure, Focus of Transmutation and Mark of Technomancy. It is crafted at the Enchanting Apparatus.[2]

Tools and machines
Once you can make the mechanism, these open up. Everything here is an Enchanting Apparatus recipe except the Source Motor, which is a shaped crafting recipe.[2]
- Spy Monocle: made at the Enchanting Apparatus.[2]
- ars_technica:runic_spanner: made at the Enchanting Apparatus.[2]
- Source Motor: a shaped crafting recipe that also uses Create parts.[2]
- Pressure: a thread made at the Enchanting Apparatus.[2]
- Focus of Transmutation: the pack changed this recipe, so don't rely on the mod's default.[2]

Glyphs
The mod adds spell glyphs, all learned through Ars Nouveau glyph recipes: Glyph Press, Glyph Polish, Glyph Superheat, Glyph Fuse, Glyph Whirl, Glyph Apply, Glyph Carve, Glyph Insert and Glyph Telefeast. Several of them use Create items, such as the Mechanical Press, Sand Paper and Blaze Cake.[2]

Technomancer armor
The top of the mod's gear is the Technomancer set: Technomancer's Hat, Technomancer's Robes, Technomancer's Leggings and Technomancer's Boots. These are armor upgrade recipes, so each piece is made by upgrading an existing piece of Ars Nouveau magic armor.[2]

Each armor piece also has its own dye recipe, so you can recolor the set afterwards.[2]
Side branches
The experience gems form a small chain. The Giant Experience Gem is made from Ars Nouveau's Greater Experience Gem, the Gargantuan Experience Gem is made from the Giant one, and a separate recipe turns a Gargantuan gem back into a Giant one.[2]

How does Ars Technica work with other mods?
5 parts
Ars Technica sits between Ars Nouveau and Create, and the pack's recipes show it. Most of its crafting asks for something from Ars Nouveau, and many recipes also want a Create item. Ars Elemental and Create Enchantment Industry show up too.[2]
Create items in Ars Nouveau glyph recipes
Several Ars Technica glyphs are made through Ars Nouveau's glyph recipes, and some of them need a Create item.[2]
- Glyph Apply uses the Brass Hand.[2]
- Glyph Polish uses Sand Paper.[2]
- Glyph Press uses the Mechanical Press.[2]
- Glyph Superheat uses a Blaze Cake, along with Fire Essence and a Blaze Rod.[2]
The pack changed the recipes for Glyph Obliterate and Glyph Pack. Neither needs a Create item. Both use Ars Nouveau's Manipulation Essence plus vanilla items and storage blocks.[2]
The Calibrated Precision Mechanism
The key crossover item is the Calibrated Precision Mechanism. It is made at the Ars Nouveau enchanting apparatus and takes Create's Precision Mechanism as an ingredient, so you need Create progress before you get far with Ars Technica.[2]

Once you have it, it appears in a lot of other recipes, including the Mark of Technomancy. The ars_technica:runic_spanner and the Pressure thread both bring in Create gear too: the Wrench and the Copper Backtank. Both recipes are shown below. The pack also changed the Focus of Transmutation recipe, which uses the mechanism as well.[2]

Technomancer armor and Ars Elemental
The pack changed the armor upgrade recipes for the Technomancer boots, robes, leggings and hat. They now ask for Ars Elemental's Mark of Mastery, plus a matching piece of Ars Nouveau magic armor. The hat also needs Create's Engineer's Goggles.[2]
The hat also keeps an unchanged recipe that uses the Mark of Technomancy instead, so you can pick either route for that piece.[2]

Experience gems and Create Enchantment Industry
Ars Technica builds on Ars Nouveau's Greater Experience Gem. A shapeless recipe turns a Greater gem into a Giant Experience Gem, and another turns a Giant gem back into a Greater one.[2]

Create Enchantment Industry has grinding recipes that turn both the Giant Experience Gem and the Gargantuan Experience Gem into Liquid Experience.[2]

Ars Technica has been in All the Mods 10 since the 2.47 release, and the pack changelogs show it being bumped several times since. In All the Mods 10 4.14 you get Ars Technica 2.3.0, shipped as the file ars_technica-1.21.1-2.3.0.jar.[1][4]
Pack release timeline
- All the Mods 10 2.47: Ars Technica was added to the pack at version 2.1.0.[4]
- All the Mods 10 3.0: updated from 2.1.0 to 2.1.1.[5]
- All the Mods 10 3.2: updated from 2.1.1 to 2.2.0.[6]
- All the Mods 10 4.0: updated from 2.2.0 to 2.2.2.[7]
- All the Mods 10 4.5: updated from 2.2.2 to 2.3.0.[8]
Version 2.3.0 from the 4.5 update is still the version in 4.14. The sources show no later Ars Technica change in the pack.[1][8]
Unverified The pack changelogs only record version bumps, and no changelogs are stored for the shipped jars. What actually changed in each Ars Technica update (new features, fixes or balance changes) is unverified here, so check the mod's own release notes before assuming anything about a specific version.
