What is Amendments?
2 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
Amendments tweaks vanilla blocks to give them more functionality and better visuals, without adding brand-new features. If you like vanilla builds and decorating, this is a quality-of-life and polish mod for you.[1]
It started as a merge of several smaller mods: Carpeted Stairs, Better Lilypads, Better Jukeboxes and some Supplementaries features. That means you don't need to install those separately. The pack ships version 1.21-2.1.9 for NeoForge.[1][2]
What it changes
- Cauldrons can store any liquid and mix potions and dyes. Clicking one tries to craft the item in your hand with the liquid inside. Cauldrons holding water or a potion can boil over a heat source, and boiling ones can hurt you.[1]
- Lecterns get a new GUI when holding a Book and Quill, with an Ink Well button to cycle font colors and a Quill button to cycle fonts. They can also interact with hoppers.[1]
- Lanterns have a new hand-held animation and can be hung on walls, where they swing with pendulum physics. This works with any lantern.[1]
- Hanging signs can hold any item on both faces and swing with physics when attached to walls.[1]
- Jukeboxes visually show the disc they are playing, and the disc spins. This works with any disc, modded or not.[1]
- Carpets can be placed on slabs and stairs, and cakes can be stacked by placing two on top of each other.[1]
- Mob skulls can be stacked in any combination and can have candles placed on top, which leave a wax overlay.[1]
- Lilypads can have any block placed on them, and brewing stands color their potion bottles to match what they hold.[1]
Where it fits in the pack
There is no progression gate here. It isn't a tech or magic chain you have to climb. The changes work as you play and make everyday vanilla blocks nicer to use and build with.[1]
Unverified The sources don't show any quests or ATM Star path steps for this mod, and no in-jar guidebook was found. Any pack-specific config changes for it are unconfirmed.
How do you get started with Amendments?
2 parts
Here's the good news: this mod adds no new items and no new recipes to craft. It tweaks vanilla blocks you already know, giving them more functionality and better visuals. Getting started just means making the vanilla blocks you'd build anyway and trying out what they can do now.[1]
Try these first
- Hold a lantern. You'll see a new 3D holding animation in both first and third person. You can also hang any lantern on a wall, where it swings with pendulum physics.[1]
- Set up a cauldron. It can store any liquid, and it can mix potions and dyes. Click it with an item in your hand and it tries to craft that item with the liquid inside.[1]
- Put a heat source under a cauldron holding water or a potion and it boils. Be careful: boiling cauldrons can deal boiling damage. Stepping into a cauldron with a splash or lingering potion applies that potion to you.[1]
- Decorate your base. Carpets and moss carpets can go on slabs and stairs. Banners and pots can go on ceilings. Hanging signs can hold any item on both faces.[1]
- Put a Book and Quill on a lectern for a new GUI. The Quill button cycles through fonts and the Ink Well button cycles through font colours. Lecterns can now work with hoppers too.[1]
Small touches worth knowing
- Jukeboxes show the disc they are playing, and the disc spins while it plays. This works with any disc, modded or not.[1]
- You can place any block on a lilypad. When you remove the block, the lilypad goes back to normal.[1]
- Mob skulls can be stacked in any combination and can have candles on top, which leave a wax overlay on the skull.[1]
- You can stack cakes by placing one on top of another, and vanilla cakes can be rotated.[1]
- Brewing stands colour their bottles to match the potions inside.[1]
- Bells visually connect to chains and ropes below them, and you can ring a bell by clicking the chain or rope.[1]
Unverified The mod is very configurable, and this pack's config values aren't in the sources for this section. So it's not confirmed that every feature above is enabled in this pack. If something doesn't work, the pack may have turned it off.
How does Amendments work?
6 parts
Amendments doesn't add any machines, power networks or pipes. It tweaks blocks you already know from vanilla and gives them extra functionality and better visuals. So the core mechanics here are the upgraded behaviours of cauldrons, lanterns, signs, bells and other vanilla blocks. The cauldron gets the deepest system.[1]
The enhanced cauldron
In this pack the enhanced cauldron is switched on with cauldron.enhanced_cauldron. That turns the humble cauldron into a small crafting station. It can store any liquid, not just water or lava, and it gets improved animations with splash and bubble particles, plus sounds vanilla was missing.[1][3]
- Crafting by clicking: cauldron.crafting is on, so when you click a cauldron, it tries to craft the item in your hand using the liquid inside.[1][3]
- Dyed water: cauldron.dye_water is on, so you can dye cauldron water Bedrock-style and mix dyes together.[1][3]
- Potion mixing: cauldron.potions_mixing is set to ON in this pack. The other options are OFF and ONLY_BOILING. A mixed potion can hold up to 8 effects, set by cauldron.potion_mixing_limit.[3]
- Boiling: a cauldron holding water or a potion boils if it has a heat source below it, and a boiling cauldron can inflict boiling damage, so watch your step.[1]
- Potion puddles: stepping into a cauldron that holds a splash or lingering potion applies that potion to you.[1]
- Fence connections: cauldron.connect_to_fences is on, so cauldrons connect to fences.[3]
Each layer of liquid only goes so far. One layer of dyed water can recolor up to 4 items, set by cauldron.dye_recipes_per_layer. One layer of potion can craft up to 2 items, set by cauldron.potion_recipes_per_layer. Both values are multipliers on top of the vanilla crafting recipe amount, and this pack keeps the mod's default for both.[3]
On the visual side, cauldron.potion_texture gives potion cauldrons a unique texture. brewing_stand.brewing_stand_colors tints the brewing stand's bottles to match the potions it's brewing. Both are enabled here.[1][4]
Lanterns and swing physics
You can hang any lantern on a wall, and once it's hanging it has pendulum physics. lantern.high_priority is on in this pack, which gives wall lantern placement priority over other mods' wall lantern placements. If another mod's lantern isn't detected as a lantern, it can be added to lantern.id_whitelist, and this pack already adds one entry there.[1][3]
The swinging is tuned in the client config under separate physics settings for lanterns and for hanging signs. These cover collision force, collision inertia, damping, frequency and minimum and maximum angle, and the option for collisions to consider entity hitboxes is turned on for both. lantern.fast_lanterns is off here, so nearby wall lanterns use the animated renderer. Turning it on swaps in a simple block model that renders faster but loses the animation.[4]
Lanterns also get a 3D animation when you hold them, in first and third person, through lantern.lantern_item_holding. Torches get a similar animation through misc.torch_item_holding. Both are enabled in this pack.[1][4]
Hanging signs
With hanging_signs.items_on_signs enabled, a hanging sign can hold any item on both faces. It can also display banner patterns if Supplementaries is installed. Signs attached to walls swing with physics, and signs attached to fences, walls or similar blocks show a visual connection.[1][3]
hanging_sign.item_pixel_scale controls how big items on a sign look, measured in the pixels they occupy. This pack uses 10, and the config notes that 8 matches the sign's pixels better if you prefer that look.[4]
Bells and chains
Bells can visually connect to chains and ropes below them. With bell.chain_ringing on, you can ring a bell by clicking a connected chain or rope. bell.chain_length caps the chain at 16 blocks for ringing to still work; this pack keeps the default, and the allowed range is 0 to 256.[1][3][4]
Lecterns
Lecterns are the one spot where Amendments touches automation: they can now interact with hoppers. When a lectern holds a Book and Quill, you get a new GUI with a Quill button that cycles through fonts and an Ink Well button that cycles through font colors.[1]
Unverified The sources don't explain exactly what hoppers do with a lectern (inserting books, extracting them, or both). The lectern settings also aren't among the config options shown for this pack, so it's unconfirmed whether these lectern features are enabled here.
Other block tweaks
- Carpets, including moss carpets, can go on slabs and stairs. carpets.carpeted_slabs and carpets.carpeted_stairs are both on.[1][3]
- Cakes can be stacked two high and eaten from every side. cake.double_cake and cake.directional_cake are both on, and stacking works with any cake.[1][3]
- Banners can go on ceilings, and flower_pot.hanging_pot lets you place hanging flower pots, including modded pots.[1][3]
- Lily pads can have any block placed on them. The lily pad occupies the block below and becomes a waterlogged block, then reverts when you remove the block on top.[1]
- Jukeboxes get a new model and show the disc they're playing, and the disc spins while it plays. This works with any disc, modded or not.[1][4]
- Mob skulls of any kind can be stacked in any combination and can have candles placed on top, which leave a wax overlay on the skull.[1]
Which Amendments config options matter?
4 parts
Amendments is built to be configured, and the pack splits its settings into two files: the common file holds gameplay behaviour like cauldron.enhanced_cauldron, while the look-and-feel switches sit in the client file alongside options like general.tooltip_hints.[1][3][4]
Gameplay toggles you may want to flip
- torch.torch_fire is on, so torches set entities on fire, and torch.torch_fire_duration is 2 seconds. torch.torch_fire_offhand is off, so an offhand torch won't ignite anything while you swing a sword.[3]
- lantern.falling_lanterns is set to OFF in this pack, so ceiling lanterns stay put when their support breaks instead of falling and starting a fire. The other allowed values are ON and NO_FIRE.[3]
- misc.dye_blocks is off, so you can't recolour blocks by right-clicking them with dye. It's the one common-file feature switch the pack leaves disabled.[3]
- The convenience features are all enabled: cake.directional_cake and cake.double_cake, carpets.carpeted_slabs and carpets.carpeted_stairs, banners.ceiling_banners, flower_pot.hanging_pot, tripwire_hook.tool_hook, hanging_signs.items_on_signs and lectern.improved_screen.[3]
- Head decorating is fully on via mob_head.skull_candles, mob_head.multiple_candles and mob_head.skull_piles.[3]
- bell.chain_ringing lets you ring a bell by clicking a connected chain, and bell.chain_length caps that at 16 blocks of chain.[3]
Cauldron limits
- cauldron.enhanced_cauldron, cauldron.crafting, cauldron.dye_water and cauldron.connect_to_fences are all enabled, and cauldron.potions_mixing is set to ON rather than OFF or ONLY_BOILING.[3]
- cauldron.potion_mixing_limit allows 8 effects in one mixed potion, cauldron.potion_recipes_per_layer is 2 and cauldron.dye_recipes_per_layer is 4. The two per-layer values are multipliers on top of the vanilla recipe amount, so one cauldron layer goes a long way.[3]
- The pack's inverse potion pairs are speed and slowness, strength and weakness, haste and mining fatigue, luck and unluck, and instant health and instant damage.[3]
Lantern detection
Wall lanterns are enabled through lantern.wall_lanterns, with lantern.high_priority on so Amendments overrides other wall lantern placements, turn it off if it causes issues with other mods that use lower priority block click events. The pack also curates the detection lists: lantern.id_whitelist adds enlightened_end:xenon_lantern, and lantern.mod_blacklist excludes bbb, extlights, betterendforge, spelunkery, galosphere, tconstruct, enigmaticlegacy and beautify, whose blocks extend the base lantern class without looking like lanterns.[3]
Client-side visuals
- hanging_sign.swinging_signs is on, and the pendulum physics for signs and lanterns share the same numbers, including a 60 degree hanging_sign.swing_physics.max_angle and lantern.swing_physics.max_angle.[4]
- Holding animations are enabled for torches, lanterns and candle holders, but misc.fixed_holding_animations and lantern.lantern_item_holding_up are off: flip the latter on if you run dynamic lights, since it angles the arm more upwards.[4]
- misc.sign_text_color_multiplier is 1.2, brightening sign text slightly for legibility, and hanging_sign.item_pixel_scale is 10 (set it to 8 if you want items to better match the sign's pixels).[4]
- Extras like jukebox.new_model, jukebox.disc_spin, cauldron.potion_texture, brewing_stand.brewing_stand_colors and arrows.crossbows_colors are all on.[4]
Every numeric option the files record a mod default for is left at that default here, so tweaking those is purely a taste call rather than undoing a pack change.[3][4]
Unverified The sources don't record the mod's defaults for the true/false and string toggles, so it isn't possible to confirm which of those, if any, the pack changed.
