What is Shrink?
1 part
Shrink is the mod behind the Personal Shrinking Device. The pack ships Shrink 2.0.1.47, and it has been in the pack since 1.0 or earlier.[1]
In short, you use the device to shrink yourself. The quest book says it is helpful for working on automation and also just overall fun.[2]
Where the quest book puts it
The device has its own quest, "Personal Shrinking Device" quest, in the "Tips and Tricks" chapter. That chapter has 12 quests, and this one carries the subtitle "Honey I Shrunk Myself". It asks you to obtain the item.[2]
In that chapter it is one of five tips that lead into the final checkmark quest, a quest in "Tips and Tricks" ("Complete all the tips!"). The other four are "Infinite Water" quest, "Simple Magnets" quest, "Charging Gadgets" quest and "Iron Jetpacks" quest. The sources don't show a quest that must be done before the device quest.[2]
The "Building Tips" chapter has 66 quests, and the text of 47 of them wasn't available to me. If you want to know whether any of those mention Shrink, check them in the quest book.[3]
How do you get started with Shrink?
4 parts
Shrink gives you one item to care about in this pack: the Personal Shrinking Device. The pack's quest book describes it as the item you use to shrink, helpful for working on automation and also just overall fun.[2][4]
Step 1: Craft the Personal Shrinking Device
This is the first thing to make. The pack has changed its recipe, so don't rely on what you remember from other packs. Here is the exact in-pack recipe:[5]
Crafting Shaped
| any iron ingot | any ender pearl | any iron ingot |
| any iron ingot | any iron ingot | |
| any iron ingot | any iron ingot |
Recipe id: shrink:shrinking_device
This is the pack's own version of the recipe, which the pack has changed from the mod's.
Step 2: Find the keybind
The mod adds a keybind called Toggle Shrink, listed in the controls menu under the Shrink category. Look it up there before you head out so you know which key you are working with.[4]
Step 3: Pick up the quest
The device has its own quest, "Personal Shrinking Device" quest, in the Tips and Tricks chapter. It is titled "Honey I Shrunk Myself".[2]
It is one of five quests that the chapter's final "Complete all the tips!" quest comes after, alongside "Infinite Water" quest, "Simple Magnets" quest, "Charging Gadgets" quest and "Iron Jetpacks" quest.[2]
Good to know
- The mod's bottle tooltip says you can right-click a shrunken entity with a glass bottle to capture it.[4]
- The Building Tips chapter has a separate quest, "Compact Machines" quest, about Compact Machines. It asks for an item from the compactmachines namespace, not the shrink one, so don't mix the two up.[3]
How does Shrink work?
2 parts
Same as in the All the Mons 1.3.0 guide
The sources for Shrink cover one item, one keybind and the glass bottle capture: the Personal Shrinking Device and what you can do with it. They do not describe machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or automation, so this section stays short.[6][7]
The Personal Shrinking Device
The Personal Shrinking Device is made with a shaped crafting recipe, and the pack has changed that recipe. The block below shows the exact in-pack version.[7]
Crafting Shaped
| any iron ingot | any ender pearl | any iron ingot |
| any iron ingot | any iron ingot | |
| any iron ingot | any iron ingot |
Recipe id: shrink:shrinking_device
This is the pack's changed version of the Personal Shrinking Device recipe.
The mod adds a keybind called Toggle Shrink, listed under its own Shrink category in the controls.[6]
Capturing shrunken entities
The mod's glass bottle has a tooltip that tells you how to capture something: right-click a shrunken entity with the bottle. Once the bottle is filled, the tooltip shows "Contains" followed by what is inside, and it can also show a second name in brackets.[6]
How do you progress through Shrink?
2 parts
Shrink is a small mod in this pack, and the sources show just one item from it: the Personal Shrinking Device. There is no tier ladder to climb, so progression here is simply getting that one item.[2][5]
Where the quest book puts it
The pack's quest book puts the device in the Tips and Tricks chapter, as "Personal Shrinking Device" quest, with the subtitle "Honey I Shrunk Myself". The task is to obtain the Personal Shrinking Device. The quest text says it is for shrinking, that it's helpful for working on automation, and that it's also just overall fun.[2]
That quest is one of five listed before the chapter's final quest, a quest in "Tips and Tricks" ("Complete all the tips!"). The others are Infinite Water, Simple Magnets, Charging Gadgets and Iron Jetpacks.[2]
Crafting it
The pack changed the recipe for the device, so don't rely on what you remember from the mod's defaults. This is the in-pack recipe:[5]
Crafting Shaped
| any iron ingot | any ender pearl | any iron ingot |
| any iron ingot | any iron ingot | |
| any iron ingot | any iron ingot |
Recipe id: shrink:shrinking_device
Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use Shrink?
3 parts
Shrink only shows up in one quest chapter in this pack: Tips and Tricks, a 12-quest chapter of useful items and info to help you on your journey.[2]
Tips and Tricks: Personal Shrinking Device
The quest is "Personal Shrinking Device" quest, subtitled "Honey I Shrunk Myself". Its one task is an item task for the Personal Shrinking Device. The quest text says you use the item to shrink, that it is helpful for working on automation, and that it is also just overall fun.[2]
The chapter lists no earlier quest that you have to finish before this one, so nothing in the quest book gates it.[2]
What comes after
The chapter ends with a checkmark quest, a quest in "Tips and Tricks", subtitled "Complete all the tips!". It comes after five quests, and the Personal Shrinking Device is one of them. The other four are:[2]
- "Infinite Water" quest[2]
- "Simple Magnets" quest[2]
- "Charging Gadgets" quest[2]
- "Iron Jetpacks" quest[2]
A similar quest in Building Tips
Don't mix it up with "Compact Machines" quest in the Building Tips chapter. That quest asks for an item with the id compactmachines:personal_shrinking_device, not the Shrink item. It sits after the Paxel quest, and its text explains that you use the device to enter a placed Compact Machine and right click it to exit.[3]
