What is Farming for Blockheads?
3 parts
Farming for Blockheads is in the pack as version 21.1.11, the NeoForge build for Minecraft 1.21.1. It has been included since 1.0 or earlier.[1]
In the quest book, the mod's items are spread across the Food and Farming chapter and one quest in the Apothic Spawners chapter.[2][3]
The Market
The Market is introduced in the Food and Farming chapter by "Purchasing Farm Supplies" quest, which comes after the "Mary had a Little Lamb" quest. The quest says a Market provides a villager that can sell you anything if you have the right amount of emeralds. It's usually just 1 Emerald per item.[2]
The Market matters in a Skyblock world, where animals can be hard to find. The Apothic Spawners chapter has another quest for it, a quest in "Apothic Spawners". It says you can buy Spawn Eggs of certain animals from the Market at the cost of a Diamond, and the quest gives you a Diamond to start with.[3]
Fertilizers
The Food and Farming chapter has one quest for each fertilizer, and each one comes after the Improving Growth quest.[2]
- Red Fertilizer increases the speed of growth and conflicts with green fertilizer (a quest in "Food and Farming").[2]
- Green Fertilizer increases output per harvest and conflicts with red fertilizer (a quest in "Food and Farming").[2]
- Yellow Fertilizer is for when jumping keeps wrecking your crops. The quest says it can be used with the other two types (a quest in "Food and Farming").[2]
Eggs
The Chicken Nest is the item for humane egg collection. Its quest is "Egg Automation" quest, which comes after the "I'm not gonna make an Egg pun" quest in the same chapter.[2]
How do you get started with Farming for Blockheads?
3 parts
In a skyblock start, the first thing you want from Farming for Blockheads is the Market. After that come fertilizer and animal helpers. Here is the order I would go in.[2][3]
Make a Market first
The Market gives you a villager who can sell you just about anything for emeralds. The quest says it is usually just 1 Emerald per item. You can follow this in the "Purchasing Farm Supplies" quest quest, which comes after the Mary had a Little Lamb quest in the Food and Farming chapter.[2]

This is the mod's own recipe, unchanged by the pack.
The Market also helps with the problem of finding animals in a skyblock world. It sells spawn eggs for certain animals at the cost of a Diamond, and the quest a quest in "Apothic Spawners" gives you a Diamond to get started.[3]
Grow faster with fertilizer
Once crops are going, the fertilizer quests in the Food and Farming chapter all come after the Improving Growth quest. The pack changed some of the fertilizer recipes, so use the ones shown below rather than the mod's defaults.[2][4]
- Red Fertilizer increases the speed of growth and conflicts with green fertilizer. The mod describes it as giving a chance of a bonus growth. See a quest in "Food and Farming".[2][5]
- Green Fertilizer increases output per harvest and conflicts with red fertilizer. The mod describes it as giving a chance of a bonus crop. See a quest in "Food and Farming".[2][5]
- Yellow Fertilizer can be used together with the other two. Its quest jokes about annihilating your crops when jumping on them. See a quest in "Food and Farming".[2]

Automate your animals
Once you have chickens, the Chicken Nest collects the eggs they lay. It is the item for the "Egg Automation" quest quest.[2][5]

How does Farming for Blockheads work?
4 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 5.5 guide
Farming for Blockheads is built around a handful of blocks and items: the Market, the Feeding Trough, the Chicken Nest and three fertilizers. There's no power, fluids or multiblocks here. Each block does one job for your farm, and this section walks through each one.[6][7]
The Market
The Market is where you buy farming supplies. Its stock is organised into groups, and the mod's built-in default groups are selling.seeds, selling.saplings and selling.fertilizers.minecraft. So out of the box, the market is your source for seeds, saplings and fertilizers.[6]
The mod can switch groups on and off. An exclude list always wins over the include list, so excluding selling.seeds removes every seed from the market, even if that group is also enabled.[6]
The market also has merchants. The mod can give them a list of possible names, and it has an option to treat merchants as babies on a technical level to block exploits based on their death loot, such as farming them for blood.[6]
In this pack, the market entries for Green Fertilizer, Red Fertilizer and Yellow Fertilizer have all been changed by the pack. Check the recipe viewer below to see what the pack's versions look like.[7]

Crafting the Market itself
Feeding Trough
The Feeding Trough automatically feeds nearby animals that are ready to mate, so you don't have to walk around your pens with food in hand. It only reaches animals within a set range.[6]
The trough also has a population cap. Once a set maximum number of animals of one type is reached, it stops feeding that type. This keeps it from breeding endlessly and filling your pens.[6]

Chicken Nest
The Chicken Nest collects eggs laid by chickens. It picks up eggs within a set range, so you don't have to chase stray eggs around the coop.[6]

Unverified The exact range of the Feeding Trough and Chicken Nest, and the trough's animal cap, are not listed in the available sources. Whether hoppers or pipes can feed the trough or pull eggs from the nest is also unconfirmed.
Fertilizers and Fertilized Farmland
Green Fertilizer increases crop output: when you use it, there's a chance to get a bonus crop. Red Fertilizer works on growth instead, with a chance to give crops a bonus growth.[6]
The mod also adds Fertilized Farmland. Each time it provides a bonus, there's a chance it turns back into regular farmland. Plan on topping it up now and then rather than treating it as permanent.[6]
Unverified What Yellow Fertilizer does, and the exact bonus and regression chances, are not described in the available sources.
Two of the three fertilizer crafting recipes are different in this pack. Green Fertilizer and Red Fertilizer both have recipes changed by the pack, while Yellow Fertilizer keeps the mod's own recipe.[7]

How do you progress through Farming for Blockheads?
3 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.4 guide
Farming for Blockheads has no formal tiers in this pack. What the quest book gives you is a short path: get a Market first, then move on to fertilizers and chicken automation. Here is how that path goes.[8][9]
Step 1: The Market
The quest "Purchasing Farm Supplies" quest in the Food and Farming chapter is where you pick up the Market. It comes after the quest "Mary had a Little Lamb". The quest says the Market gives you a villager who can sell you nearly anything for emeralds, usually 1 Emerald per item.[8]

The Market matters even more in a skyblock world, where animals are hard to find. The quest a quest in "?" in the Apothic Spawners chapter says it sells spawn eggs of certain animals for a Diamond each, and the quest gives you a Diamond to get started.[9]
Step 2: Fertilizers
The fertilizer quests in the Food and Farming chapter all come after the Improving Growth quest, and each one asks you to obtain a different fertilizer. The pack changed some of these recipes, so don't assume the mod defaults apply.[8][10]
- Red Fertilizer (quest a quest in "Food and Farming") increases growth speed and conflicts with green fertilizer. The pack changed its crafting recipe.[8][10]
- Green Fertilizer (quest a quest in "Food and Farming") increases output per harvest and conflicts with red fertilizer. The pack changed its crafting recipe too.[8][10]
- Yellow Fertilizer (quest a quest in "Food and Farming") is the answer to annihilating your crops when you jump on them, and it can be used with the other types. Its crafting recipe is the unchanged mod recipe.[8][10]

The Market also has entries for red, green and yellow fertilizer, and the pack changed all of those entries as well.[10]
Step 3: Chickens and animals
The quest "Egg Automation" quest points you to the Chicken Nest for what it calls humane egg collection. It comes after the quest "I'm not gonna make an Egg pun" in the same chapter.[8]

Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use Farming for Blockheads?
2 parts
This mod shows up in two quest chapters in the pack: Food and Farming, and Apothic Spawners. The sources only tell me which quest each one follows, not where the chapters sit relative to each other, so I'll go through each chapter by its prerequisites.[2][3]
Food and Farming
This chapter has the most Farming for Blockheads quests. Each one asks you to hold a single item, and it's worth reading what each quest says about it.[2]
- "Purchasing Farm Supplies" quest (Purchasing Farm Supplies) unlocks after the quest "Mary had a Little Lamb" and asks for the Market. The quest text says the Market gives you a villager who sells nearly anything for emeralds, usually 1 Emerald per item.[2]
- "Egg Automation" quest (Egg Automation) unlocks after the quest "I'm not gonna make an Egg pun" and asks for the Chicken Nest, for humane egg collection.[2]
- a quest in "Food and Farming" asks for the Red Fertilizer. The quest says it increases growth speed and conflicts with green fertilizer. It unlocks after the quest "Improving Growth".[2]
- a quest in "Food and Farming" asks for the Green Fertilizer. The quest says it increases output per harvest and conflicts with red fertilizer. It also unlocks after "Improving Growth".[2]
- a quest in "Food and Farming" asks for the Yellow Fertilizer. The quest says it can be used with the other two types, and it also follows "Improving Growth".[2]
Apothic Spawners
a quest in "Apothic Spawners" (Animal Spawn Eggs) asks for the Market again. It unlocks after the quest 78E94C386B1E7359. The quest text explains that animals are hard to find in a Skyblock world, so the Market lets you buy Spawn Eggs for certain animals at the cost of a Diamond. The quest also says you get a Diamond for free to start.[3]
So the Market appears in two quests, one in each chapter. In Food and Farming it covers general supplies bought with emeralds, and in Apothic Spawners it covers animal Spawn Eggs.[2][3]
