What is Farming for Blockheads?

2 parts

Farming for Blockheads adds farming helpers and a shop to the pack. This pack includes version 21.1.10 for NeoForge on Minecraft 1.21.1, and the mod has been here since 1.0 or earlier. The pack's quest book covers it in the "Food and Farming" chapter.[1][2]

What it gives you

The Market is your shop. The quest "Purchasing Farm Supplies" quest describes it as giving you a villager who can sell you anything if you have the right amount of emeralds. The quest says it's usually just 1 emerald per item.[2]

For animals, the Chicken Nest is the "humane egg collection" option. It is the task of "Egg Automation" quest.[2]

For crops, the mod adds fertilizers, and each has its own quest that unlocks after Improving Growth. Here is what the quest text says about each one:[2]

Tip: Pick between red and green first: red is for faster growth, green is for bigger harvests, and the two conflict. Yellow can be used with either one.[2]

Where it fits in the quest book

The market quest follows "Mary had a Little Lamb", and the chicken nest quest follows "I'm not gonna make an Egg pun". The fertilizer quests all come after the Improving Growth quest.[2]

How do you get started with Farming for Blockheads?

3 parts

Farming for Blockheads adds a handful of blocks and items that make farming and animal care easier. The pack's Food and Farming quest chapter points you at them, so here is the order I would go in.[2]

Start with the Market

Make the Market first. The quest "Purchasing Farm Supplies" quest comes after the "Mary had a Little Lamb" quest. It says the Market gives you a villager who can sell you farm supplies for emeralds, and usually it is just 1 emerald per item.[2]

The Market also has trades for the red, green and yellow fertilizers, and the pack changed all of those trades from the mod's defaults. The sources here don't list the trade prices, so check them in the Market itself.[3]

Pick your fertilizers

The fertilizer quests all unlock after the Improving Growth quest. You can buy them from the Market or craft them yourself. The pack changed the red and green crafting recipes from the mod's defaults, while the yellow one is the mod's own recipe.[2][3]

Red Fertilizer increases the speed of growth, and it conflicts with green fertilizer. Its quest is a quest in "Food and Farming".[2]

Yellow Fertilizer can be used together with the other fertilizers. Its quest, a quest in "Food and Farming", jokes about not annihilating your crops when you jump on them.[2]

Tip: Choose between red and green before you fertilize a field: red is for faster growth, green is for more output per harvest, and they conflict. Yellow can be used with either.[2]

Looking after animals

For eggs, the Chicken Nest collects eggs laid by chickens. The quest "Egg Automation" quest calls it humane egg collection and comes after the "I'm not gonna make an Egg pun" quest.[2][4]

How does Farming for Blockheads work?

5 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 5.4 guide

Farming for Blockheads is all about making farm life less of a chore. Its core pieces are small helper blocks for your animal pens, three colours of fertilizer for your crops, and a Market where you can pick up farming goods. None of these need power or fluids; the sources describe them as simple blocks that work on whatever is nearby.[5][6]

Chicken Nest

The Chicken Nest collects eggs laid by chickens, so you don't have to hunt for them around your coop. It picks up laid eggs within a set range, and that range is a mod setting.[5]

Feeding Trough

The Feeding Trough auto-feeds nearby animals that are ready to mate, which keeps your breeding pens going without you standing there with a stack of wheat. It only reaches animals within its range, and it stops feeding once a maximum number of animals of each type is reached. That cap is what keeps a trough from filling your base with cows forever.[5]

Tip: The animal cap counts each animal type separately. A single trough area can hold a mixed pen without one species using up the limit for the others.[5]

Unverified The exact ranges and the maximum animal count used in this pack could not be confirmed, because the mod's config files are not available as sources. The same applies to whether the trough or nest can be fed or emptied with hoppers or pipes.

Fertilizers

There are three fertilizers, and each one does a different job. Green Fertilizer increases crop output: when you use it, you get a chance at a bonus crop. Red Fertilizer gives a chance at bonus growth instead.[5]

Fertilizers work through Fertilized Farmland. Fertilized Farmland isn't permanent: each bonus it provides carries a chance that it turns back into regular Farmland. Expect to top your fields up now and then.[5]

Unverified What Yellow Fertilizer does is not described in the available sources, and neither are the exact bonus and regression chances used in this pack.

The pack has changed the crafting recipes for Green Fertilizer and Red Fertilizer. Yellow Fertilizer uses the mod's own recipe. Check the recipes below rather than relying on older guides or videos for other packs.[6]

The Market

The Market is the mod's shop block. In this pack it offers all three fertilizers: Green, Red and Yellow. The pack has changed each of these market entries, and the recipe data lists them with no item inputs.[6]

Unverified It is unconfirmed whether the missing item inputs mean these market entries are free in this pack or only that their cost isn't shown in the data. Check the Market in-game before you plan around it.

        Merchants

The mod includes merchants, which take their names from a configurable list. There is also a setting that makes merchants count as babies on a technical level only. It exists to shut down exploits that farm merchants for their death loot, such as blood.[5]

Unverified How merchants relate to the Market block, and whether the baby setting is turned on in this pack, is not confirmed by the available sources.

How do you progress through Farming for Blockheads?

        3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.4 guide

Farming for Blockheads has no formal tiers in this pack. What the quest book gives you is a short path: get a Market first, then move on to fertilizers and chicken automation. Here is how that path goes.[7][8]

        Step 1: The Market

The quest "Purchasing Farm Supplies" quest in the Food and Farming chapter is where you pick up the Market. It comes after the quest "Mary had a Little Lamb". The quest says the Market gives you a villager who can sell you nearly anything for emeralds, usually 1 Emerald per item.[7]

        any logany logany log

        Recipe id: farmingforblockheads:market

This is the unchanged mod recipe.

The Market matters even more in a skyblock world, where animals are hard to find. The quest a quest in "?" in the Apothic Spawners chapter says it sells spawn eggs of certain animals for a Diamond each, and the quest gives you a Diamond to get started.[8]

        Step 2: Fertilizers

The fertilizer quests in the Food and Farming chapter all come after the Improving Growth quest, and each one asks you to obtain a different fertilizer. The pack changed some of these recipes, so don't assume the mod defaults apply.[7][9]

The Market also has entries for red, green and yellow fertilizer, and the pack changed all of those entries as well.[9]

Tip: Red and green conflict, so pick one based on whether you want faster growth or bigger harvests. Yellow works alongside the other types.[7]

        Step 3: Chickens and animals

The quest "Egg Automation" quest points you to the Chicken Nest for what it calls humane egg collection. It comes after the quest "I'm not gonna make an Egg pun" in the same chapter.[7]

Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use Farming for Blockheads?

        3 parts

All of this mod's quests sit in one chapter, Food and Farming. Some ask for fertilizers, and the others ask for the Chicken Nest and the Market. Every quest here has an item task.[2]

        Fertilizer quests

The fertilizer quests all unlock after the quest called Improving Growth. You can take them in any order, because each one only needs that earlier quest.[2]

Tip: Red and green fertilizer conflict, so pick one based on whether you want faster growth or bigger harvests. Yellow fertilizer can be used with either.[2]

        Chickens and the Market

"Egg Automation" quest is called Egg Automation, with the subtitle "Humane egg collection". It unlocks after the quest "I'm not gonna make an Egg pun" and asks you to submit a Chicken Nest.[2]

"Purchasing Farm Supplies" quest is called Purchasing Farm Supplies. It unlocks after the quest "Mary had a Little Lamb" and asks you to submit a Market. The quest text says the Market gives you a villager who can sell you anything for emeralds, usually 1 Emerald per item.[2]

        Suggested order

        1. Work through the earlier Food and Farming quests that lead into these ones: Improving Growth, "I'm not gonna make an Egg pun" and "Mary had a Little Lamb".[2]
        2. Submit the Market for "Purchasing Farm Supplies" quest once "Mary had a Little Lamb" is done.[2]
        3. Submit the Chicken Nest for "Egg Automation" quest once "I'm not gonna make an Egg pun" is done.[2]
        4. After Improving Growth, hand in the fertilizers in whatever order you like.[2]
