What is Extreme Reactors?
1 part
Extreme Reactors lets you build nuclear power plants out of multiblock machines: Reactors that make energy, and Turbines that turn vapor into energy. This pack ships version 1.21.1-2.4.24 of the mod.[1][2]
A Reactor can be built in two modes. A passively cooled Reactor burns fuel and produces power directly. An actively cooled Reactor uses its heat to vaporize coolant, and that vapor then drives a Turbine. If you like planning builds and automating them with ports and Redstone, this mod is for you.[2][3][4][5]
Reactors run on Yellorium ingots, which you get by smelting Yellorite Ore. The in-game handbook says a first Reactor is enough to cover your early-game energy needs, and you can move on to bigger Reactors and Turbines after that.[6]
Where it fits in the pack
- The mod has its own quest chapter. It starts with "Graphite for Casings" quest, where you smelt Coal or Charcoal into Graphite Bar, one of the main Reactor materials.[5]
- From there you craft Reactor Casing (Basic) and the other Basic parts, then build the smallest passive Reactor, a 3x3x3, in "Our First Reactor" quest.[5]
- Basic parts only go up to a 5x5x5 Reactor. For anything larger you need Reinforced Reactor parts.[5]
- Right after your first Reactor, the quests point you to "The Fluidizer" quest, a multiblock that turns solid fuels into fluids and mixes fuels to make new ones. It starts with the Fluidizer Controller.[5][7]
- The mod also has a Reprocessor, which turns Reactor waste back into new fuel or other resources, and an Energizer, which stores large amounts of energy.[8][9]
Unverified The sources I was given do not place Extreme Reactors on the ATM Star quest path, so I can't say whether it is required for that route.
How do you get started with Extreme Reactors?
5 parts
Your goal here is a small passively cooled reactor that makes power straight from burning fuel. The pack's quest line walks you through it in a fixed order, and so will we. Before you build anything, get some Yellorium ingots by mining and smelting Yellorite Ore, because the reactor needs them both to craft and to run.[5][6]
Step one: make graphite
Everything starts with Graphite Bar. The first quest, "Graphite for Casings" quest, asks you to smelt Coal or Charcoal into it, because graphite (together with iron) is one of the main materials for building a reactor. Smelting works, and so does a blasting recipe.[5][10]
Step two: craft reactor casings
Next come Reactor Casing (Basic), which make up the frame and walls of the reactor. You can swap the walls for Reactor Glass (Basic) if you want to see inside, as "Reactor Building Components" quest explains. The handbook says you will craft a ton of casings.[5][11]

Step three: craft the core parts
The smallest reactor is a 3x3x3. The in-game handbook lists 22 casings plus one each of the controller, control rod, fuel rod, solid access port and active power tap. The glass is optional. The quest build also adds a second access port, so you have one for fuel and one for waste.[5][6]
The Reactor Controller (Basic) is the heart of the reactor. Right-click it once the reactor has formed to open the interface. The pack changed this recipe, so check it below instead of relying on the mod's defaults.[5][6][10]

Every reactor needs at least one Reactor Control Rod (Basic) and a Reactor Fuel Rod (Basic). The control rod absorbs neutron radiation, which slows or stops fuel consumption and heat. The pack also changed the fuel rod recipe.[5][10][13]

Last, you need ways to talk to the reactor. The Reactor Solid Access Port (Basic) takes fuel in and sends waste out. The Reactor Active Forge Energy Power Tap (Basic) sends out Forge Energy to a connected cable or machine. The tap recipe is also pack-changed.[5][6][10][14]

Step four: build, fuel and start it
- Build the 3x3x3 frame from casings, with the fuel rod in the center and a casing below it. Put the control rod above the fuel rod on the top face, and the controller in the middle of the front wall.[5][6]
- Put the power tap on the middle of the back wall and the access ports on the left and right sides. When the last block goes down, the reactor forms.[5][6]
- Right-click the access port, set it to Inlet mode, and put Yellorium ingots in the input slot. The reactor turns them into fuel.[6]
- Open the controller and switch the reactor on. Heat builds up, the internal energy buffer fills, and the power tap sends energy to whatever is connected to it.[6]
Where to go next
A running reactor produces waste. Set the second access port to output and pipe it into storage, as "Dealing with Waste" quest describes. That waste is Cyanite Ingot, which the pack then uses for the Reprocessor and Turbine quests such as "Reprocessing our Waste" quest and "Making Turbines" quest. "Expanding Our Reactors" quest covers building bigger reactors once the basic one works.[5]
How does Extreme Reactors work?
10 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.4 guide
Extreme Reactors is built around multiblock machines: you place casing, controllers, ports and internals next to each other, and the machine forms when the layout is valid. This pack has the Reactor and Turbine for power generation, plus the Energizer for storage and the Fluidizer and Reprocessor for fuel handling. This section explains how each one works and how you plug it into your base.[2][4][7][8][9]
Reactor: heat is everything
A Reactor makes energy or vapor from heat. Irradiated fuel heats up, moderators absorb part of the radiation and move heat away from the Fuel Rods toward the Casing, and the Casing Heat is what finally generates energy or vaporizes coolant. Radiation travels in every direction perpendicular to the Fuel Rod pile axis, so the way you lay out the interior matters.[15]
Moderators are blocks or fluids placed inside the Reactor. Some are better than others: air works, but barely, and rarer or pricier materials usually do better. Only valid moderators are allowed inside, and an invalid one stops the multiblock from forming. Turn on Advanced Tooltips (F3 + H) and valid moderators show a special tooltip.[16][17]
Fuel Rods sit in long piles, either all vertical or all horizontal, because mixing orientations is not allowed. The first rod in each pile must touch a Casing block, and the last must be followed by a Control Rod. That is why every Control Rod ends up on the same face of the Reactor. Control Rods absorb neutron radiation, so inserting them slows or stops fuel consumption, heat and waste. You can set the insertion percentage for one rod or for all of them.[13][18]
- Casing heat: high heat raises energy output and coolant conversion.[17]
- Core heat: the heat of the fuel. High heat raises fuel usage, and it is transferred to the casing at a rate set by your interior design.[17]
- Fuel richness: how heavily irradiated the core is. Higher levels reduce fuel burnup.[17]
Passive vs. active cooling
A Reactor works in one of two modes. A passively cooled Reactor generates energy directly into its internal buffer. Any energy that does not fit in that buffer is lost, so make sure something is draining it.[3][17][19]
An actively cooled Reactor needs at least two Fluid Ports: one set to insert coolant and one to extract the vapor. The vapor is piped to a Turbine to spin its rotor and is then condensed back into the coolant. Only valid coolants and vapors are accepted. By default the mod registers water as a coolant and steam as its vapor, but packs can change that.[20][21]
Feeding the Reactor
By default the mod registers four reactants: the fuels Yellorium and Blutonium, and their wastes Cyanite and Magentite. Ejected Cyanite turns into Cyanite Ingots. The Solid Access Port turns solid materials, usually ingots, into reactants. Inlet mode takes fuel and outlet mode outputs waste. Use the Extreme Wrench to toggle the mode, or use the port's GUI. A small material loss is unavoidable with this port.[22][23][24]
The Fuel Injection Port, a Reinforced-variant part, handles fluid reactants instead. It accepts fluid fuel in inlet mode and outputs fluid waste in outlet mode, with no material loss. The Reactor controller can also eject waste automatically as soon as possible or leave it for you to eject manually, from the screen or via Redstone or Computer Port signals.[17][25]
In this pack, Blutonium Ingots and Blocks convert using a plutonium ingot or storage block tag, and the pack changed both of those recipes. Cyanite, Magentite and Graphite conversions are unchanged mod recipes.[26]
Power taps and active vs. passive parts
Energy is converted on the fly by the Power Tap when it leaves the internal buffer, so the tap decides which power system the machine outputs. This mod ships a Forge Energy tap, and each Reactor or Turbine can use only one power system.[14][27][28]
Many parts come in passive and active forms. A passive part does nothing on its own, and the connected block must pull or push. An active part constantly tries to send or extract, and does not let the neighbor insert or extract. Mixing both kinds lets you tune your network. Your first Reactor uses the Reactor Active Forge Energy Power Tap (Basic), which pushes energy into any adjacent block that accepts it. The pack changed its recipe:[6][26][29]

Turbine: vapor to energy
A Turbine makes energy by spinning its Rotor. Vapor is pumped from the Vapor Fluid Tank into the rotor chamber at the flow rate you set in the Controller, and each Rotor Blade captures a little of it. With the Induction Coils engaged, energy depends on rotor speed and the coil blocks' average efficiency and drag.[30]
The Rotor is one Rotor Bearing, Rotor Shaft blocks running the full length to a Housing block on the far side, and Rotor Blades attached to the shaft. Only valid coil blocks may surround the shaft.[31][32][33][34]
- Engaged coils extract energy but drag on the Rotor. Disengaged coils extract nothing, but the Rotor spins faster.[17]
- Blades capture vapor fully only up to their capacity. Efficiency drops if the flow rises past it.[17]
- The Basic Turbine can use up to 1000 mB/t of vapor to spin its rotor.[35]
Automation
The Reactor Redstone Port accepts signals to turn the Reactor on or off, eject waste to Access Ports in outlet mode, or set the insertion of all Control Rods. It can also emit signals based on casing heat, core heat, fuel richness, fuel amount, waste amount and energy stored. You will usually need two or more ports to fully automate a Reactor.[36]
The Turbine Redstone Port can turn the Turbine on or off, engage or disengage the coils, and change the maximum vapor flow rate. It can emit signals for rotor speed, coolant amount, vapor amount and energy stored.[37]
For anything more complex, the Reinforced Computer Port exposes methods to a connected computer, which can query status and control behavior. The only supported computer mod is CC.[38][39]
Energizer: bulk energy storage
The Energizer is a multiblock for storing very large amounts of energy. The minimum size is 3x3x3, built from Energizer Casing and other device parts, with the whole interior filled with Energy Cell blocks.[9][26][40][41]
- Energizer Controller: at least one is required, placed on a vertical face but not on the frame. Its GUI turns the machine on or off and shows stored energy and flow in and out.[26][42]
- Energizerpowerport Fe (passive): inserts and extracts energy, but the connected block has to do the pulling or pushing.[26][43]
- Energizerpowerport Fe Active: pushes energy into any connected Forge Energy-compatible block that accepts it.[26][44]
- Energizerchargingport Fe: charges Forge Energy items from the stored energy. Put the item in the input slot, and it moves to the output slot when full. The eject button moves it immediately.[26][45]
- Energizer Computer Port: lets a computer query the status of the Energizer.[26][46]
The pack changed several Energizer recipes, including the casing and both power ports:[26]

Fluidizer: solids to fluids and mixing
The Fluidizer is a minimum 3x3x3 multiblock that converts solid fuels into fluids and mixes fuels to make new ones. All parts are mandatory except Glass and the Injectors. Glass can replace Casing on the faces but not on the frame.[7][47][48]
The number and type of Injectors set its mode. One Solid Injector turns a solid fuel source, like an ingot, into fluid fuel. Two Solid Injectors convert two solids and mix them into a new fuel. Two Fluid Injectors mix two existing fluid fuels.[49][50][51]
Exactly one Controller is needed, on a vertical face off the frame. Its GUI shows fluid, energy and job status. The Power Port accepts energy from any Forge Energy cable or generator. The Output Port lets you pipe the finished fuel out automatically.[52][53][54]
The pack changed the Fluidizer casing, controller and solid injector recipes, including the casing recipe that every other part is crafted from. Here is the Solid Injector:[26]

Reprocessor: reusing waste
The Reprocessor turns Reactor waste into new fuel sources or other resources. It has a 3x3 footprint and is 7 blocks high, made of Casing and one of each other part. Glass can replace Casing on the vertical faces but not on the frame.[8][55]
- Waste Injector: takes waste by hand through the GUI or from a pipe.[56]
- Fluid Injector: supplies the fluids needed, which can differ by waste type.[57]
- Power Port: accepts any Forge Energy cable or generator.[58]
- Output Port: extract the results by hand or with a pipe.[59]
- Collector: acquires the material from the interior when a job finishes.[60]
- Controller: turns the machine on or off and shows fluids, energy and job status.[61]
Size limits
The Basic Reactor has a maximum external size of 5x5x5, and the Basic Turbine 5x5x10. The Reinforced variants can be larger, with a cap of up to 256 blocks that is set in the mod's config.[12][35][62][63]
Unverified The pack's actual maximum size for Reinforced Reactors and Turbines is unverified, since no config file for this mod was available.
How do you progress through Extreme Reactors?
7 parts
The pack walks you through Extreme Reactors in its Extreme Reactors quest chapter, and the order runs like this: graphite, a small passive reactor, waste, a turbine, a reprocessor, then a chain of ever fancier ingots that ends at the Insanite Block. Here is that path, tier by tier.[5]
Tier 1: Graphite and the Basic reactor
You start with "Graphite for Casings" quest. Smelt Coal or Charcoal into Graphite Bar, which the quest calls one of the main reactor materials alongside iron.[5]
Charcoal works too, and both can be blasted instead.
Next come the Reactor Casing (Basic) blocks, which form the frame and walls. Reactor Glass (Basic) can replace wall blocks if you want to see inside.[5]

Basic parts only work with other Basic parts, and they cap out at 5x5x5. The pack's first build is the smallest passive reactor, a 3x3x3, in "Our First Reactor" quest, using one fuel rod and one control rod. The in-game guide adds that you need Yellorium ingots to craft and power the reactor.[5][6][12]
The pack changes the recipes for the Basic controller, the fuel rod and the active power tap, so don't rely on what you remember from the mod's defaults. This is the controller as it is in this pack:[10]

Tier 2: Waste, Cyanite and the Turbine
Your reactor produces waste, and "Dealing with Waste" quest has you set the second Solid Access Port to output and pipe the Cyanite Ingot into storage. Cyanite then unlocks two things: Turbines and the Reprocessor.[5]
"Making Turbines" quest starts the Turbine line with the Turbine Controller (Basic) and Turbine Housing (Basic). Basic Turbines max out at 5x5x10 and can use up to 1000 mB/t of vapor. You also need a rotor, so "Creating The Turbine Shaft" quest covers the Turbine Rotor Bearing (Basic), Turbine Rotor Shaft (Basic) and Turbine Rotor Blade (Basic). "Turbine Ports" quest covers the ports: the quest says you need two fluid ports, and the power tap is required to complete the multiblock.[5][35]

Reinforced reactors and active cooling
To go bigger than 5x5x5, or to make steam for your turbine, you need Reinforced parts. "Building An Actively Cooled Reactor" quest has you build an actively cooled reactor out of Reactor Casing (Reinforced) and a Reactor Active Forge Fluid Port (Reinforced), which takes in coolant and sends out the vapor. Per "Expanding Our Reactors" quest, the biggest Reinforced reactor is 32x32x48.[5]
The pack changes both the Reinforced casing recipe and the recipe that upgrades Basic casing into Reinforced.[10]

Tier 3: Reprocessor and Blutonium
The Reprocessor is a 3x3x7 multiblock that turns waste into something useful. "Building The Frame" quest warns that it takes a lot of casings, which means a lot of Cyanite. The Reprocessor Collector goes in the center of the bottom face, and the Reprocessor Waste Injector goes in the center of the top face, as "Importing Waste" quest explains. The power port, fluid injector and output port can go on any vertical face that isn't part of the frame.[5]
Per the quest, feed it power, water and Cyanite and it makes Blutonium Ingot. Blutonium can be used as reactor fuel and creates its own waste, Magentite.[5]
Reprocessor (bigreactors)
Recipe id: bigreactors:reprocessor/cyanite_to_blutonium
Tier 4: The Fluidizer and Rossinite
The Fluidizer is a multiblock with a minimum size of 3x3x3, and its mode depends on the injectors you use. One solid injector converts a solid to a fluid, two solid injectors mix two solids, and two fluid injectors mix two fluids. The pack changes the Fluidizer casing, controller and solid injector recipes.[5][10][49]
Crafting Shaped
| any uranium ingot | any emerald gem | any uranium ingot |

Recipe id: bigreactors:fluidizer/controller
In "Rossinite" quest, you combine Blutonium with Yellorium in the Fluidizer to make Verderium. The quest says that when Verderium is used as fuel in a reactor, it produces Rossinite as a reactant, and that you need Fuel Injection Ports such as the Reactor Fuel Injection Port (Reinforced). It also says you might need to empty out the fuel currently in your reactor, or make a new reactor for this purpose.[5]
The final ingots
- Ludicrite Ingot is made in the Reprocessor from a Blutonium Ingot and Cyanite.[10]
- Ridiculite Ingot is made from Ludicrite and Magentite. The quest suggests turning Magentite into a fluid in the Fluidizer first, then sending it to the Reprocessor with the Ludicrite.[5][10]
- Inanite Ingot comes from a Ridiculite Ingot and Rossinite in the Reprocessor.[5][10]
- Insanite Ingot comes from Rossinite and Benitoite (BaTiSi3O9). The quest notes that Benitoite Ore can be found in the Nether.[5][10]
The final quest of the chain, "Insanite Block" quest, is the Insanite Block, which the quest calls one of the hardest materials in the mod.[5]

Optional: the Energizer
The Energizer is a multiblock for storing large amounts of energy, with a minimum size of 3x3x3. The pack changes its casing recipe. The Extreme Reactors quest chapter does not walk you through it, so treat it as an optional extra.[5][9][10][40]
How does Extreme Reactors work with other mods?
3 parts
Extreme Reactors connects with other mods in this pack in only one place that I can confirm from the recipes: Productive Bees. A handful of recipes tie reactor materials to bees, and the recipe data marks each of them as changed by the pack.[10]
Productive Bees: crystal bees from reactor ores
The bee conversion recipes turn Extreme Reactors ores into Productive Bees crystals. Anglesite Ore converts into an anglesite crystal, and Benitoite Ore converts into a benitoite crystal. Both recipes are marked as changed by the pack, so don't assume they match what you've seen in other modpacks.[10]

Reprocessor bee recipes
The Reprocessor also works with bees. There are Reprocessor recipes for the inanite, insanite, ludicrite and ridiculite bees. Each one takes a configurable bee and returns it along with a Spawn Egg Configurable Bee. They are marked as changed by the pack too.[10]
If you haven't built the Reprocessor yet, the quest "Reprocessing our Waste" ("Reprocessing our Waste" quest) points you at the Reprocessor Casing to start. It describes the machine as a way to turn reactor waste into something useful.[5]

Power and cables
Reactor power goes out through a Power Tap. The quests say you can attach pipes and cables to it. The Energizer's Active FE Power Port connects to any Forge Energy-compatible cable or machine. The Fluidizer's Power Port accepts any Forge Energy-compatible cable or generator. I can't confirm which specific cable or generator mods in this pack you should use with them.[5][44][53]
Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use Extreme Reactors?
5 parts
In the quest book, the Extreme Reactors chapter is where this mod's quests are. It starts at Graphite and ends at the Insanite Block. Two other chapters touch the mod briefly: Building Tips and The Nuclear Age. Below, quests are listed in the order their prerequisites unlock them.[5][64][65]
Building your first reactor
- "Graphite for Casings" quest asks for a Graphite Bar. Its text says graphite, together with iron, is one of the main materials for making a reactor.[5]
- "Reactor Building Components" quest asks for Reactor Casing (Basic) and Reactor Glass (Basic). Its text says that parts marked "Basic" can only be used with other basic parts, and that basic parts can only build smaller reactors because of a size limit.[5]
- Three quests list that one as their prerequisite. "Interacting with the Reactor" quest asks for the Reactor Active Forge Energy Power Tap (Basic) and Reactor Solid Access Port (Basic). a quest in "Extreme Reactors" asks for the Reactor Controller (Basic). "Reactor Control Rods" quest asks for the Reactor Control Rod (Basic) and Reactor Fuel Rod (Basic).[5]
- "Our First Reactor" quest lists the Controller quest as its prerequisite. It walks you through the smallest passive reactor, a 3x3x3, and its text says the quest's requirements are the exact amounts needed for that build.[5]
Three quests list the first reactor as their prerequisite. "Expanding Our Reactors" quest covers bigger reactors. Its text says the largest reactor with Basic parts is 5x5x5, and the biggest with Reinforced parts is 32x32x48. "Dealing with Waste" quest asks for a Cyanite Ingot, which its text ties to the waste your reactor makes. "The Fluidizer" quest starts the Fluidizer line.[5]
Turbines and active cooling
"Making Turbines" quest follows the waste quest and asks for the Turbine Housing (Basic) and Turbine Controller (Basic). Its text says Basic turbine parts can only build a turbine up to 5x5x10. Three quests list it as their prerequisite: "Turbine Construction" quest (the Turbine Glass (Basic)), "Turbine Ports" quest (the Turbine Active Forge Fluid Port (Basic) and Turbine Active Forge Energy Power Tap (Basic)) and "Creating The Turbine Shaft" quest (the Turbine Rotor Bearing (Basic), Turbine Rotor Shaft (Basic) and Turbine Rotor Blade (Basic)).[5]
"Building An Actively Cooled Reactor" quest lists both the turbine quest and the waste quest as prerequisites. It asks for the Reactor Casing (Reinforced) and Reactor Active Forge Fluid Port (Reinforced), and its text describes a reinforced reactor used to heat coolant into steam.[5]
The Reprocessor line
- "Reprocessing our Waste" quest follows the waste quest and asks for the Reprocessor Casing.[5]
- a quest in "Extreme Reactors" asks for the Reprocessor Controller. Its text describes the Reprocessor as a 3x3x7 multiblock.[5]
- Three quests list the Controller quest as their prerequisite. "Importing Waste" quest asks for the Reprocessor Collector and Reprocessor Waste Injector. a quest in "Extreme Reactors" asks for the Reprocessor Power Port, Reprocessor Fluid Injector and Reprocessor Output Port. "Building The Frame" quest asks for more casings for the frame.[5]
- "Blutonium" quest follows the frame quest and asks for a Blutonium Ingot.[5]
- "Ludicrite \& Ridiculite" quest follows Blutonium and asks for a Ludicrite Ingot and Ridiculite Ingot. Its text notes you might need a Fluidizer for this step.[5]
The Fluidizer and the end of the chapter
"The Fluidizer" quest asks for the Fluidizer Controller; its text says the interface shows what's inside and the current power level. Three quests list it as their prerequisite. "Fluidizer Construction" quest asks for the Fluidizer Casing and Fluidizer Glass, and its text gives a minimum size of 3x3x3. "Required Ports" quest asks for the Fluidizer Output Port and Fluidizer Power Port. "Operational Modes" quest asks for the Fluidizer Solid Injector and Fluidizer Fluid Injector, and its text says the injectors you use decide the Fluidizer's mode.[5]
Those three together are the prerequisites of "Rossinite" quest, which asks for the Reactor Fuel Injection Port (Reinforced). Its text says Verderium as fuel needs Fuel Injection Ports, and that you might need to empty the fuel currently in your reactor or make a new reactor. Next is "Insanite" quest and its Insanite Ingot. "Inanite" quest lists Rossinite and the Ludicrite and Ridiculite quest as prerequisites, and asks for an Inanite Ingot. The finale is "Insanite Block" quest, which asks for the Insanite Block. Its text calls it one of the hardest materials in the mod and says it's also used to create the ATM Star.[5]
Quests in other chapters
- Building Tips has one quest, a quest in "Building Tips". It accepts any one of several glass blocks, including the reactor, turbine, Fluidizer and Reprocessor glass from this mod, and also Mekanism glass types.[64]
- The Nuclear Age has a quest in "The Nuclear Age", which asks for a Blutonium Ingot. It follows a quest from that chapter that isn't covered in the sources.[65]
