What is Ars Additions?

2 parts

Ars Additions is an addon for Ars Nouveau that adds small tweaks and quality of life extras. This pack includes version 1.21.1-21.2.2.[1][2]

What it adds

  • Structures: Ruined Warp Portals, which include an Explorer's Warp Scroll to help you find new places, and the Nexus Tower, a wizard tower for easier teleporting around your world.[1]
  • Glyphs: Retaliate targets whatever last hit you within the last 5 seconds. Mark and Recall store and reuse a reference to a block or entity through an Unstable Reliquary.[1]
  • Functionality: the (Stabilized) Warp Index gives remote access to your Storage Lecterns, with cross-dimensional access on the upgraded versions. The Ender Source Jar is an Ender Chest for Source. The Wixie Enchanting Apparatus helps automate Enchanting Apparatus recipes.[1]
  • Decoration: Ars-themed lanterns and chains, Sourcestone walls, Cracked Sourcestone and the Snoozebuncle painting.[1]

The Magelight Lanterns are hollowed lanterns with Magelights inside. They come in Golden, Archwood, Sourcestone, Polished Sourcestone, Regular and Soul versions, such as the Magelight Lantern and the Soul Magelight Lantern.[1]

Where the quest book puts it

The pack's quest book covers this mod in the "building_tips" chapter, which has 67 quests. The quest is a quest in "?", titled Archwood Magelight Lantern. It is satisfied by an Ars Nouveau light glyph or any one of the six lanterns: Magelight Lantern, Golden Magelight Lantern, Sourcestone Magelight Lantern, Polished Sourcestone Magelight Lantern, Archwood Magelight Lantern or Soul Magelight Lantern.[3]

It comes right after a quest in "?", the lighting quest that accepts torches, lanterns, glowstone, sea lanterns and copper bulbs. Other lighting quests branch off the same quest, including a quest in "?" and a quest in "?". In the quests shown, no other quest lists the lantern quest as its prerequisite.[3]

Tip: This mod is not on the ATM Star quest path, so you can treat its quest as optional decoration.[3]

How do you get started with Ars Additions?

5 parts

Ars Additions is an Ars Nouveau addon built around small tweaks and quality-of-life extras. Here is the order I'd tackle its items in, starting with the cheap, useful ones.[1]

Start with the Magelight Lantern

Start with the Magelight Lantern. It's a hollowed lantern with Magelights inside. The pack also has a building tips quest, a quest in "?", that accepts the Light glyph or any of the magelight lanterns. The pack changed this recipe, so don't rely on what you remember from the mod's defaults.[1][3][4]

Once you have the basic one, there are matching versions in other materials, such as the Sourcestone Magelight Lantern and the Archwood Magelight Lantern. The pack changed those recipes too. It also added a Create sandpaper polishing recipe that turns the sourcestone version into the Polished Sourcestone Magelight Lantern.[1][4]

Wayfinder and the Locate Structure ritual

The Wayfinder is used in the recipe for Locate Structure, a ritual that locates a nearby structure based on the augments you give it. The pack changed the Wayfinder recipe.[4][5]

Your first charms

Charms are made at the Enchanting Apparatus. Two good early picks are the Charm of Darkvision, which gives you Night Vision in low-light environments, and the Charm of Featherlight, which grants feather fall when you fall further than 3 blocks. Both use the mod's own recipes, unchanged by the pack.[4][5]

The Warp Index gives you remote access to your Storage Lecterns, and the upgraded versions add cross-dimensional access. The pack changed the recipe for the Stabilized Warp Index, so check the recipe below before you plan for it.[1][4]

How does Ars Additions work?

6 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Ars Additions is an Ars Nouveau addon built around small tweaks and quality-of-life features, so you won't find big machines or multiblocks here. What it does add is a handful of systems for storing, moving and automating things with Source. Here's how each one works, as far as the sources explain it.[1]

Mark, Recall and the Reliquary

The Mark glyph is an Effect that stores a reference to a block or entity inside a Reliquary. To bind one, hold the Reliquary in your offhand and cast a spell with Mark. The Recall glyph is a Form that reads that stored target and casts the spell on it. The Reliquary can also show a broken tether in its tooltip.[1][6]

Retaliate is a Form that applies your spell to the last entity that dealt damage to you. The hit has to be within the last 5 seconds.[1][6]

Source and storage

  • Ender Source Jar: this works like an Ender Chest for Source. Place one in your base to fill it with Source, then carry another to reach that Source anywhere.[1]
  • Warp Index: gives you remote access to your Storage Lecterns. The upgraded (Stabilized) version adds cross-dimensional access. Its tooltip shows the coordinates and dimension it's bound to, and you open it with a keybind.[1][6]
  • Handy Haversack: its tooltip says to click items into the Haversack, or click the Haversack onto items.[6]

Automation

Use a Wixie Charm on an Enchanting Apparatus to turn it into a Wixie Enchanting Apparatus. It can automate Enchanting Apparatus recipes, including applying enchantments.[1]

The Wixie Cauldron also has a tooltip that reads "Output storage bound". The sources don't explain how that binding works, so check it in-game.[6]

Rituals and exploration

The Ritual of Arcane Permanence force-loads the chunks around it, and it needs a constant stream of Source to keep running. Another ritual locates a nearby structure based on the augments you give it.[6]

Ruined Warp Portals come with an Explorer's Warp Scroll. Throw it into the frame of a ruined warp portal, or press its keybind, to teleport. The tooltip shows whether it is still locating a structure, has located one, or failed to find one nearby.[1][6]

Unverified The mod's own description says the chunk-loading ritual is fully configurable and disabled by default. No config files for this mod were available for this pack, so whether it is enabled here, and what its limits are, is unverified.

Charms and perks

Ars Additions adds a set of charms that give passive protection. The Fall Prevention Charm grants feather fall when you fall further than 3 blocks. The Undying Charm lets you keep going after fatal damage. The Void Protection Charm teleports you back to the last safe space you were on. Charm tooltips can also show a charging progress.[6]

The Thread Reach perk increases your entity and block interaction distances by 1 for each level.[6]

What the pack changes

The pack changes the crafting recipes for the mod's chains and for most of its lanterns, including the Magelight variants. Don't rely on the mod's default recipes for these. Here is the in-pack recipe for the Magelight Lantern.[7]

Unverified The pack has shapeless "clear" recipes for the Handy Haversack, the Advanced Dominion Wand and the Jar of Miner's Wisdom. The sources don't say what they do, so their exact effect is unverified.

How do you progress through Ars Additions?

3 parts

The quest book gives you very little to follow for Ars Additions, so this is a practical order built from the quest and the in-pack recipes: lighting and building blocks first, then utility items, then the Enchanting Apparatus upgrades.[3][4]

Stage 1: Magelight lanterns and building blocks

The one quest in the sources that touches this mod is a quest in "?", in the building_tips chapter. It unlocks after another quest in that chapter. It is completed by handing in the Ars Nouveau Light glyph or any of these lanterns: Magelight Lantern, Golden Magelight Lantern, Sourcestone Magelight Lantern, Polished Sourcestone Magelight Lantern, Archwood Magelight Lantern or Soul Magelight Lantern.[3]

The pack changed the crafting recipes for these magelight lanterns, so don't rely on the mod's defaults. Here is the basic one.[4]

The pack also changed the plain lanterns and the chains: Sourcestone Lantern, Golden Lantern, Archwood Lantern, Sourcestone Chain, Golden Chain and Archwood Chain. Here is the Sourcestone Magelight Lantern.[4]

You can turn a Sourcestone Magelight Lantern into the polished version with a shapeless crafting recipe, and the pack also adds a Create sandpaper polishing recipe for the same result. A reverse crafting recipe takes the polished lantern back to unpolished.[4]

This sandpaper polishing recipe is added by the pack.

The other sourcestone pieces (doors, trapdoors, buttons, walls and the cracked variants) use the mod's own recipes. The cracked blocks come from the stonecutter.[4]

Stage 2: Utility items

Two items here had their recipes changed by the pack: the Handy Haversack and the Wayfinder.[4]

Tip: The protective charms use the mod's own Enchanting Apparatus recipes, unchanged by the pack. Examples are Charm of Darkvision, Charm of Ocean's Breath, Charm of Emberward, Charm of Featherlight and Charm of Second Wind. Their ingredients are mostly vanilla items, so you can pick them up whenever you reach the apparatus.[4]

How does Ars Additions work with other mods?

5 parts

Ars Additions is an addon for Ars Nouveau, so almost every connection to another mod in this pack runs through Ars Nouveau. Its recipes build on Ars Nouveau items, with a few vanilla items mixed in.[1][4]

Enchanting Apparatus crafts

Most of the mod's functional items are made at the Ars Nouveau Enchanting Apparatus. Each one starts from an Ars Nouveau item you may already have, so you can upgrade into them as you progress.[4]

Sourcestone and decoration

The building blocks are tied to Ars Nouveau's Sourcestone and Smooth Sourcestone: the mod's doors, trapdoors, walls and buttons come in plain and polished versions. You can also run Sourcestone through a stonecutter to get the cracked variants, and the cracked blocks craft back into plain Sourcestone. The Magebloom Carpet is linked to Ars Nouveau's Magebloom Block.[4]

The pack changed the recipes for the Archwood and Sourcestone chains and for the lanterns, including every Magelight Lantern variant. They pull in Ars Nouveau materials such as Archwood Planks and Source Gems, plus iron nuggets and, for some, other common materials. If you remember these from the mod's defaults, check the recipe in-game before you craft.[4]

Quests

In the building_tips quest chapter, a quest in "?" accepts either Ars Nouveau's Light glyph or any of the Magelight Lanterns from this mod: Magelight Lantern, Golden Magelight Lantern, Sourcestone Magelight Lantern, Polished Sourcestone Magelight Lantern, Archwood Magelight Lantern or Soul Magelight Lantern.[3]

Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use Ars Additions?

2 parts

This mod shows up in one quest, and it sits in the building_tips chapter of the quest book. The chapter has 67 quests, mostly about decorative and building items.[3]

The lantern quest

The quest is a quest in "?". It's an item quest that accepts any one of several items: the Ars Nouveau glyph light item, or one of the mod's lanterns. Those are the Magelight Lantern, Golden Magelight Lantern, Sourcestone Magelight Lantern, Polished Sourcestone Magelight Lantern, Archwood Magelight Lantern and Soul Magelight Lantern.[3]

What comes before it

The lantern quest comes right after a quest in "?", the lighting quest of the chapter. That one accepts a wide range of light sources, including torches, lanterns, glowstone, sea lanterns and the copper bulb variants. Once you've handed in a light source there, the lantern quest unlocks.[3]

It isn't the only quest that follows the lighting quest. Other lamp quests branch off the same one, such as a quest in "?" for the PneumaticCraft wall lamps and a quest in "?" for the XyCraft lamps. Several untitled quests also come after it, so you can pick whichever lighting style you like.[3]

I didn't find any other quest chapter in the sources that asks for this mod's items.[3]

Which Ars Additions config options matter?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 0.53 guide

Ars Additions doesn't have a long list of settings to tweak, and the pack's config files for this mod aren't available to me. So I can't tell you the exact values this pack uses, and I won't guess at them.[1]

Ritual of Arcane Permanent (chunkloading)

The one setting the mod's project page calls out is the Ritual of Arcane Permanent. It chunkloads the area around it, and the page says it is fully configurable and disabled by default. That describes the mod's own default, not necessarily this pack's setup.[1]

Unverified Whether this pack enables the Ritual of Arcane Permanent, and what chunkloading limits or other values it sets, could not be confirmed. Check the in-game behavior or the pack's config folder before building around it.

Higher-tier Codex Entries

The project page says Tier 1 Codex Entries show up in basic dungeon loot, while higher tiers are unobtainable by default. That is the mod's default behavior. It isn't confirmed whether this pack changes how higher tiers are obtained.[1]
