What is Apothic-Spawners?
1 part
Apothic Spawners is the spawner module of Apotheosis, and it is all about moving and modifying mob spawners. You can pick a spawner up with Silk Touch, then change how it behaves with vanilla items. Spawner modifiers are recipes that take one or two items held in your hands, and they apply their stat change when you right-click a spawner. Each modifier has its own cap on the stats it changes, and some change several stats at once.[1]
The mod also adds the Capturing enchantment for swords, which gives mobs a chance to drop their spawn egg. You can use a spawn egg on a spawner to change the mob it spawns. This pack ships Apothic Spawners 1.4.0.[1][2]
Where it sits in the quest book
The pack has a dedicated chapter called "Apothic Spawners" with 36 quests. It opens with "Apothic Spawners" quest, which asks for a Spawner and explains that Apotheosis brings back mining spawners with Silk Touch. Several quests hang off that one, and the order goes like this:[3]
- a quest in "Apothic Spawners" comes straight after the opening quest. The agitator comes from PneumaticCraft, and in this pack it keeps spawned mobs from despawning if you leave the chunks.[3]
- "Blowing up Spawners" quest also follows the opening quest. It asks for Spawner Chain and Tnt, and it leads into a quest in "Apothic Spawners", which asks for the Spawner Rune, the base material for modifying spawners.[3]
- The rune quests all come after the Spawner Rune quest: "Quiet down you'll wake up the mobs!" quest, "Redstone Active" quest, "Ignore Light" quest, "Opposite Day" quest, "Spawn Range" quest, "Burning" quest and "Youthful" quest.[3]
- The two upgrade rune quests also follow it. a quest in "Apothic Spawners" sets Minimum Spawn Delay to 150, Maximum Spawn Delay to 600, Spawn Count to 7, Max Entities to 12 and Activation Range to 24. a quest in "Apothic Spawners" sets them to 100, 400, 10, 18 and 32.[3]
- An untitled quest after the opening one covers spawn eggs. The chapter also has quests on getting eggs, including the Capturing enchantment, which gives 0.5% per level per kill, with VII normally the highest level.[3]
- Another group of quests covers spawners from other mods, such as the a quest in "Apothic Spawners" and the a quest in "Apothic Spawners".[3]
The chapter has 8 more quests that I can't show here. You'll find them in the quest book itself.[3]
How do you get started with Apothic-Spawners?
3 parts
Apothic Spawners lets you pick up Mob Spawners and change how they behave by right clicking them with certain items. The pack's quest book has a whole chapter on it, and the order below follows that chapter.[1][3]
Your first steps, in order
- Collect a Spawner with Silk Touch. The quest book says this is back, and the mod's own advancement for it is "Collect a mob spawner using Silk Touch". Start with "Apothic Spawners" quest.[3][4]
- Get a spawn egg. You can't normally get them, but right clicking one on a spawner changes which mob it spawns. That's why you want one before anything else. See a quest in "Apothic Spawners".[1][3]
- Blow up a spawner with Tnt to get Spawner Chain. The quest book says a destroyed spawner leaves 48-57 chains at the time of writing. See "Blowing up Spawners" quest.[3]
- Make a Spawner Rune. The quest book calls it the base material for modifying spawners, and it comes right after the blowing up quest. See a quest in "Apothic Spawners".[3]
- Try the Frontiersman's rune, Frontiersman's Spawner Upgrade Rune. It's the first and cheapest of the Spawner Upgrade Runes. It sets Minimum Spawn Delay to 150, Maximum Spawn Delay to 600, Spawn Count to 7, Max Entities to 12 and Activation Range to 24. See a quest in "Apothic Spawners".[3]
Where to get spawn eggs
The quest book lists a few routes. Swords with the Capturing enchantment give mobs a chance to drop their egg, at 0.5% per level, with VII as the normal maximum (a quest in "Apothic Spawners"). For animals, the Market sells eggs for a Diamond (a quest in "Apothic Spawners"). You can also use a Mob Swab with GM Chicken Feed (a quest in "Apothic Spawners"), or Reliquary's Mob Charm Fragment (a quest in "Apothic Spawners").[3]
What to do next
Once you have a rune, the basic modifications branch off from it in the quest book. "Redstone Active" quest gives the spawner an on/off switch, and "Ignore Light" quest removes the light level requirement. The more advanced runes need an Infused Spawner Rune, which asks for at least 70 Eterna, 30% Quanta and 50% Arcana in an Enchanting Table (a quest in "Apothic Spawners").[3]
Unverified No in-pack crafting recipes for the runes or other Apothic Spawners items were available for this guide, so no recipe is shown here. Check JEI or EMI in game for the exact recipes. This site does hold All the Mods 10: To the Sky's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.
How does Apothic-Spawners work?
6 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
Apothic Spawners is the spawner module of Apotheosis. The sources describe it as a mod about moving and modifying mob spawners. They describe no machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or item automation for it. Everything here is about spawner stats, the modifiers that change them, and the Capturing enchantment.[1]
Collecting a spawner
You can pick up a mob spawner with Silk Touch, and one of the mod's advancements asks you to do exactly that. The mod's in-game info text comes in different variants: one names the tool used to collect spawners, one says spawners always drop when broken, and one says collection with Silk Touch is currently disabled.[1][5]
Unverified Which collection behavior this pack uses is decided by the mod's settings, and the sources here do not show it. Test it on a spawner before you plan around it.
Vanilla spawner stats
Every spawner has a set of basic stats that come from vanilla. You can hover over a modified stat to see its description and the modifier-specific min or max value.[1]
- Minimum Spawn Delay and Maximum Spawn Delay: the lower and upper bounds, in ticks, of the time between spawns.[1]
- Spawn Count: the upper bound on the number of entities spawned.[1]
- Max Nearby Entities: how many entities of the spawning type can be nearby before spawning stops.[1][5]
- Required Player Range: the radius, in blocks, that a player must be within for the spawner to be active.[1]
- Spawn Range: the radius, in blocks, in which the spawner will try to spawn entities.[1]
Advanced stats from Apotheosis
On top of the vanilla stats, the mod adds several switches and effects. Some of them change how the spawner behaves, and others change the mobs it spawns.[1]
- Ignore Players: the spawner ignores the required player range and activates regardless.[1]
- Ignore Conditions: the spawner ignores all spawn rules for the spawned entity.[1]
- Ignore Light: the spawner spawns the target entity regardless of light level.[1]
- Redstone Control: the spawner must be activated by a redstone signal.[1]
- Initial Health: the amount of max health, in percentage, that mobs spawn with.[1]
- No AI: spawned mobs get the No AI flag. They are still moved by gravity and external force.[1]
- Silent: spawned mobs get the Silent flag and make no sound.[1]
- Youthful: if possible, spawned mobs will be babies.[1]
- Burning: mobs spawn on fire.[1]
- Echoing: spawned mobs drop an additional copy of their loot table on death.[1]
Spawner modifiers
You change a spawner's stats with a Spawner Modifier. A modifier is a recipe that takes one or two input items held in your hands, and right-clicking the spawner applies the stat change. Each modifier has its own caps on the stats it changes, and one modifier can change more than one stat at once. The in-game recipe viewer has a Spawner Modification category, and the mod's root advancement points you to JEI for details.[1][5]
Stat targets the advancements ask for
The advancements give you a rough roadmap of what a modified spawner can reach. They ask you to lower the minimum and maximum spawn delay to 20, raise the spawn count to 16, raise max nearby entities to 32, raise the spawn range to 32, and raise the player activation range to 48. They also ask you to disable the need for nearby players, spawn conditions, light requirements and mob AI, and to enable redstone control.[5]
At the moment, the final advancement asks for an ultimate spawner. As its description currently reads, it needs minimal delays, redstone control, no AI, ignored spawn conditions and ignored players.[5]
Capturing and changing the mob type
The mod also adds the Capturing enchantment, which applies to swords. It gives mobs a chance to drop their spawn egg on death, and the info text says the chance is a percentage per level. Spawn eggs can be used to change the type of mob a spawner spawns.[1][5]
Unverified The actual drop rate per Capturing level in this pack is not shown by the sources here. It is set in the mod's settings.
How do you progress through Apothic-Spawners?
5 parts
The pack's quest book has a whole chapter called "Apothic Spawners", and it doubles as the progression path for this mod. It starts at "Apothic Spawners" quest, which asks for a spawner. It tells you spawners can be mined with Silk Touch again, and that you can modify them by right clicking with modification items.[3]
Step by step through the chapter
- Start with "Apothic Spawners" quest. Every other path in the chapter branches from here.[3]
- Do "Blowing up Spawners" quest, which asks for Spawner Chain and Tnt. Blowing up a spawner makes it highly unstable, so it spawns a large amount of its mob and leaves chains behind. The quest book says 48 to 57 chains, "at the time of writing".[3]
- Continue to a quest in "Apothic Spawners", which asks for Spawner Rune. The quest book calls it the base material for modifying spawners, and it is the parent of every basic modification quest.[3]
- Pick up the basic modifications and the first two upgrade runes, all of which unlock after the Spawner Rune.[3]
- Go for a quest in "Apothic Spawners" to unlock the advanced modifications and the last two upgrade runes.[3]
Basic modifications
These all unlock right after the Spawner Rune quest. Each one is its own item:[3]
- Rune of Silence only shuts the spawner up.[3]
- Rune of Control gives the spawner an on/off switch: without Redstone power it will not spawn.[3]
- Rune of Perpetual Twilight makes the spawner ignore light levels. It does not ignore other requirements, such as livestock needing grass.[3]
- Rune of Spawning Range changes the area where mobs can spawn. A bigger area gives them more room, and a smaller one makes for a cheaper factory.[3]
- Rune of Immolation makes mobs spawn on fire.[3]
- Rune of Youth makes the spawner produce only baby mobs, and it works only with vanilla baby versions, not modded ones.[3]
- Rune of Debilitation reduces the max health of spawned mobs, down to as low as 20%.[3]
There is also a neat trick in "Opposite Day" quest. Hold Quartz in your offhand and the other modification item in your main hand, and the modification does the opposite. With the spawn range rune it shrinks the range instead of growing it, and with the health rune it raises starting health.[3]
Spawner Upgrade Runes: the four tiers
Upgrade runes work differently from the rest. Instead of nudging one stat, each one sets several stats at once to fixed values. Delays are in ticks, and 20 ticks equal 1 second. The spawner picks a random delay between the minimum and maximum. Spawn Count is the maximum number of mobs per spawn, Max Entities is how many of its mobs can exist at once, and Activation Range is how close you must be.[3]
- Tier 1, Frontiersman's Spawner Upgrade Rune: the first, cheapest and weakest. Minimum delay 150, maximum delay 600, Spawn Count 7, Max Entities 12, Activation Range 24. It unlocks after the Spawner Rune quest.[3]
- Tier 2, Wayfarer's Spawner Upgrade Rune: minimum delay 100, maximum delay 400, Spawn Count 10, Max Entities 18, Activation Range 32. The quest says any spawn egg works for crafting it. It also unlocks after the Spawner Rune quest.[3]
- Tier 3, Mountaineer's Spawner Upgrade Rune: minimum delay 50, maximum delay 200, Spawn Count 13, Max Entities 24, Activation Range 40. It comes after the Infused Spawner Rune quest, and the quest warns you will need to fight a Warden for it.[3]
- Tier 4, Thundering Spawner Upgrade Rune: the final tier. Minimum and maximum delay are both 20, Spawn Count 16, Max Entities 32, Activation Range 48. It also comes after the Infused Spawner Rune quest, and the quest notes Endersurge Gems can be obtained in The End.[3]
Advanced modifications
a quest in "Apothic Spawners" says you need to infuse your spawner runes. That takes at least 70 Eterna, 30% Quanta and 50% Arcana in an Enchanting Table. The quest gives three ways to get there: 14 Deepshelves that aren't Dormant, 13 Glowing Hellshelves with 2 Deepshelves, or 12 Crystalline Seashelves with 2 Deepshelves. The quest book sends you to its Apothic Enchanting chapter for more on these mechanics.[3]
- Rune of Echoes: mobs from the spawner have their drops multiplied.[3]
- Rune of Solitude: you no longer need to be near the spawner. As long as its chunk is loaded, it spawns.[3]
- Rune of Defiance: ignores light levels, required blocks and biomes. Space conditions still apply (slimes still need a 3x3 area, for example), and so does having a player nearby.[3]
- Rune of Stupor: spawned mobs lose all AI, so they just stand there like armor stands, ready to be killed.[3]
Getting spawn eggs
You change what a spawner spawns by right clicking it with a spawn egg, as a quest in "Apothic Spawners" explains. The quest book lists several ways to get eggs: the Capturing enchantment, Mob Grinding Utils swabs with GM Chicken Feed, Reliquary charm fragments, and the Market from Farming for Blockheads. Capturing gives a 0.5% chance per level on each kill, with VII as the normal maximum.[3]
Unverified The exact crafting recipes for the runes are not confirmed by the sources used for this section, so check the in-game recipe viewer for them. This site does hold All the Mods 10: To the Sky's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.
Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use Apothic-Spawners?
6 parts
Everything for this mod lives in a single quest chapter called "Apothic Spawners", which has 36 quests. It starts with a plain spawner, moves into the rune upgrades, and then covers Spawn Eggs and spawners from other mods. Here is how it fits together.[3]
The starting point
The chapter opens with "Apothic Spawners" quest, which asks for a Spawner. The quest explains that you can mine spawners with Silk Touch again, and that you can modify them by right clicking with the right items.[3]
Three quests come straight after it: a quest in "Apothic Spawners", "Blowing up Spawners" quest and an untitled checkmark quest about Spawn Eggs. The Agitator comes from PneumaticCraft. With this mod present it keeps spawned mobs from despawning if you leave the chunks.[3]
"Blowing up Spawners" quest asks for Spawner Chain and Tnt. Blowing up a spawner leaves chains behind (the quest says 48-57 at the time of writing) and spawns a large amount of its mob.[3]
Basic runes
a quest in "Apothic Spawners" follows the explosion quest and asks for Spawner Rune, the base material for modifying spawners. Most of the basic modifications branch off it:[3]
- "Quiet down you'll wake up the mobs!" quest makes the spawner quiet.[3]
- "Redstone Active" quest gives the spawner an on/off switch, so it won't spawn without Redstone power.[3]
- "Ignore Light" quest makes the spawner ignore light levels, but not other requirements such as grass for livestock.[3]
- "Spawn Range" quest changes the area where mobs can spawn.[3]
- "Opposite Day" quest asks for Quartz, which reverses what another modification does when you hold it in your offhand.[3]
- "Burning" quest makes mobs spawn on fire.[3]
- "Youthful" quest makes the spawner produce baby mobs, but only vanilla ones.[3]
- "Health" quest lowers the spawned mobs' max health, down to as low as 20%.[3]
Spawner upgrade runes
The upgrade runes set several stats at once instead of changing one. There are four tiers. a quest in "Apothic Spawners" is the first and weakest: it sets Minimum Spawn Delay to 150, Maximum Spawn Delay to 600, Spawn Count to 7, Max Entities to 12 and Activation Range to 24. a quest in "Apothic Spawners" is the second tier: 100, 400, 10, 18 and 32. Both come after the Spawner Rune quest.[3]
Advanced runes
a quest in "Apothic Spawners" is the gateway to the advanced modifications, and it also follows the Spawner Rune quest. It asks you to infuse runes, which needs at least 70 Eterna, 30% Quanta and 50% Arcana in an Enchanting Table. These come after it:[3]
- a quest in "Apothic Spawners" is the third tier: 50, 200, 13, 24 and 40 for the same five stats. The quest warns that you'll need to fight a Warden for it.[3]
- a quest in "Apothic Spawners" is the fourth and final tier. It sets both spawn delays to 20, Spawn Count to 16, Max Entities to 32 and Activation Range to 48.[3]
- "Echoing" quest multiplies the loot that spawned mobs drop.[3]
- "Ignore Players" quest means players no longer need to be nearby, as long as the chunk is loaded.[3]
- "Ignore All Conditions" quest ignores most spawn conditions, but space requirements and player proximity still apply.[3]
- "No AI" quest strips the mobs of all AI.[3]
Spawn Eggs
The untitled checkmark quest after the first quest explains that you can right click a Spawn Egg on a spawner to change its mob. The quests that cover ways to get eggs come after an untitled quest:[3]
- a quest in "Apothic Spawners" covers the Capturing enchantment, which gives a 0.5% chance per level of an egg on each kill. The highest level you can normally get is VII (7).[3]
- a quest in "Apothic Spawners" uses a Mob Swab and GM Chicken Feed from Mob Grinding Utils. The chicken doesn't survive, and not all mobs can be swabbed.[3]
- a quest in "Apothic Spawners" covers Reliquary charm fragments, which can be made into charms or Spawn Eggs.[3]
- a quest in "Apothic Spawners" lets you buy eggs of certain animals for a Diamond each.[3]
- a quest in "Apothic Spawners" isn't a Spawn Egg, but it can bind mobs to spawners. The quest sends you to the Apothic Enchanting chapter to learn how to get it.[3]
Spawners from other mods
An untitled checkmark quest explains that these are spawners provided by mods besides this one. The quests for them come after an untitled quest:[3]
- a quest in "Apothic Spawners" (Industrial Foregoing)[3]
- a quest in "Apothic Spawners" (EnderIO)[3]
- a quest in "Apothic Spawners" (Mob Grinding Utils)[3]
- a quest in "Apothic Spawners" (Mystical Agriculture)[3]
- a quest in "Apothic Spawners" (Draconic Evolution)[3]
- a quest in "Apothic Spawners" (Ars Nouveau)[3]
- a quest in "Apothic Spawners" (PneumaticCraft)[3]
What changed in Apothic-Spawners between versions?
All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.4 ships Apothic-Spawners 1.4.0, using the file ApothicSpawners-1.21.1-1.4.0.jar. The mod has been in the pack since 1.0 or earlier, so it's not a recent addition.[2]
Unverified The mod has its own changelog for 1.4.0, but the list of changes in it wasn't available to this guide, so what changed in that release is unconfirmed. No pack changelog entries for this mod were provided either, so any pack-specific changes to it across releases are unconfirmed too.
