What is Utilitarian?
Same as in the All the Mods 10 6.5 guide
Utilitarian is included in this pack as version 1.21.1-0.18.2, so you can use it in your world. It's been part of the pack for a while: it was first added in pack version 2.25 or earlier.[1]
Unverified The available sources don't confirm what this mod adds, who it's aimed at, or where it fits in the pack's progression. Check the mod's items in JEI/EMI in-game to see what it offers. This site does hold All the Mons's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.
How do you get started with Utilitarian?
5 parts
Same as in the All the Mons 1.3.0 guide
Utilitarian adds a set of small utility blocks and tools. The sources here don't set out a fixed progression for it, so this is a sensible order to craft things in, starting with the tool you will use first.[2]
Start with the Trowel
Make the Trowel first. Once you have it, shift right click to change its pull setting.[2][3]
Crafting Shaped
| any wooden rod | Empty slot | Empty slot |
| Empty slot | any iron ingot | any iron ingot |

Then the Block Magnet
Next comes the Block Magnet. The pack's quest book uses it in the Legendaries chapter, in the Hoenn group. The Deoxys quest "Deoxys" quest comes after The Summoning Altar and asks you to lay a 3x3 platform of Magnets beneath the altar. Knowing the recipe early saves you a scramble later.[2][4]
Crafting Shaped

Redstone helpers
The Redstone Clock is a block you right click with an empty hand to change its pulse frequency. Sneak while doing it to increase the frequency faster.[2][3]
Crafting Shaped
| Empty slot | any redstone dust | Empty slot |
| any redstone dust | any redstone dust | |

Recipe id: utilitarian:redstone_clock
The TPS Meter outputs a redstone signal based on the dimension's TPS.[2][3]

Taming noise and traders
The Sound Muffler mutes sounds within a set block radius.[2][3]
A Trader Carpet, such as the White Trader Carpet, makes arriving traders end up on that block instead of in your face. The pack has a recipe for each colour.[2][3]
Crafting Shapeless
White Carpet

Tiny Coal and Tiny Charcoal
Tiny Coal and Tiny Charcoal are crafted through Actually Additions recipes, and the pack has changed both of them. Use the in-pack recipes below instead of assuming a mod default.[2]
This recipe is changed by the pack.
This recipe is also changed by the pack.
How does Utilitarian work?
6 parts
Utilitarian is a pile of small, single-purpose blocks and items rather than a machine mod. Nothing in the sources I have describes multiblocks, power or an automation network, so this section sticks to what the mod's own text and the pack's files actually say.[3]
Redstone Clock
The Redstone Clock is the closest thing here to an automation tool. Right click it with an empty hand to change the pulse frequency, and sneak while doing it to increase the frequency faster. The block tells you the current frequency in chat when you change it.[3]
This pack adds its own recipe for the clock, so craft it like this:[5]
Shaped (kubejs)
| Empty slot | Empty slot | |
| Empty slot | Empty slot |
Recipe id: kubejs:kjs/utilitarian_redstone_clock
Lamps
The Lapis Lamp lights up an area on the client side only. The mod's own tooltip says it's still dark, you just can't see it. That makes it a visual aid, not a way to stop mobs spawning.[3]
Crafting Shaped
| Empty slot | any lapi gems | Empty slot |
| any lapi gems | any lapi gems | |
| Empty slot | any lapi gems | Empty slot |
Recipe id: utilitarian:lapis_lamp
Both lamps also have inverted versions: Inverted Lapis Lamp and Inverted Redstone Lamp.[3][5]
Trowel
The Trowel has a pull setting that you change with shift right click. The sources don't explain what the pull setting does beyond that.[3]
Crafting Shaped
| any wooden rod | Empty slot | Empty slot |
| Empty slot | any iron ingot | any iron ingot |
Recipe id: utilitarian:trowel
Trader and raider control
Trader carpets, such as the Black Trader Carpet, make arriving traders end up on that block instead of in your face. The trapped versions, such as the Black Trapped Trader Carpet, will kill the trader.[3]
Crafting Shapeless
Recipe id: utilitarian:no_soliciting/soliciting_carpets/black_trapped_soliciting_carpet
The Raider Outpost Claim Block is meant to be placed in an outpost to stop raiders from returning.[3]

Other utility blocks
The mod also has a TPS Meter, which outputs a redstone signal based on the dimension's TPS, and a Sound Muffler, which mutes sounds within a set block radius. The sources don't give the muffler's radius.[3]
The pack changed the recipes that make Tiny Coal and Tiny Charcoal. Each of them now makes 8 tiny pieces from a single coal or charcoal.[5]
Config
The pack's config for the mod is about startup behaviour, not gameplay. enableDingDongStartupSound is on, with dingDongSound set to entity.experience_orb.pickup. The log suppressor (logSuppressorEnabled) and noStartupMessagesEnabled are also on, and disableRecipeAdvancements is true.[6]
Unverified How the Fluid Hopper and Block Magnet behave (ranges, speeds, fluid or item handling) is not covered by the sources, so it can't be confirmed here.
How do you progress through Utilitarian?
2 parts
Same as in the All the Mons 1.3.0 guide
The sources show no tier ladder or upgrade chain for Utilitarian in this pack. It is a set of small utility blocks and items, so instead of a tier list this section covers the quest that uses the mod, plus the recipes the pack changed.[2][4]
Where the quests use it
The one quest in the sources that asks for Utilitarian is "Deoxys" quest in the Legendaries chapter. One of its tasks is the Block Magnet. It comes after The Summoning Altar and one other quest.[4]
The quest text explains why you need it. The first trial of the Deoxys rite has you lay a 3x3 platform of Magnets beneath the altar, so craft enough of them ahead of time.[4]
Crafting Shaped
| any copper ingot | any iron storage block | any copper ingot |
Recipe id: utilitarian:magnet
The Block Magnet uses the mod's own recipe, not one changed by the pack.
Recipes the pack changed
The pack adds its own recipe for the Redstone Clock with a KubeJS script. The recipe dump lists it alongside the mod's original recipe.[2]

This is the mod's original Redstone Clock recipe.
The recipes for Tiny Coal and Tiny Charcoal are also marked as changed by the pack. They belong to Actually Additions, not Utilitarian. The sources don't say what was changed, so check the recipes below instead of assuming the mod's defaults.[2]
The dump marks this Tiny Coal recipe as changed by the pack.
The dump marks this Tiny Charcoal recipe as changed by the pack.
Which Utilitarian config options matter?
2 parts
Everything for Utilitarian in this pack lives in config/utilitarian-common.toml. The options cover a startup sound, recipe advancements and a log suppressor. Here is exactly how the pack sets each one.[6]
Startup and advancements
- enableDingDongStartupSound is set to true, so the startup ding sound is enabled.[6]
- dingDongSound is set to entity.experience_orb.pickup, the XP orb pickup sound. The config comment names this same sound as the default, so the pack has not changed it. Put in another sound name if you want a different ding.[6]
- disableRecipeAdvancements is set to true, which disables recipe advancements.[6]
- noStartupMessagesEnabled is set to true, which enables the No Startup Messages module.[6]
Log suppressor
logSuppressorEnabled is set to true. The suppressor stops log messages that match the filter lists below. The pack fills in the contains list and the starts-with list, and leaves the other filters empty.[6]
- logSuppressorContainsMessages stops any message containing "File not found or not regular:" or "current activity:".[6]
- logSuppressorStartsWithMessages stops any message starting with "Encountered unknown" or "Next Ultra Wormhole event scheduled".[6]
- logSuppressorEndsWithMessages is an empty list, so no messages are filtered by their ending.[6]
- logSuppressorRegexMessages is also empty. The config comment warns you not to use regex filters if you don't know what you're doing.[6]
