What is Sophisticated Storage?
2 parts
Sophisticated Storage lets you upgrade Chests and Barrels with metals to increase their storage, and you can add upgrades to extend what they do. They behave just like a vanilla Chest or Barrel, but with a slot for a Storage Upgrade. This pack ships version 1.5.48 of the mod.[1][2]
It has been in the pack since 0.3.0-beta or earlier, so it's a long-standing part of the storage options.[1]
Where it sits in the quest book
The mod has its own quest, "Sophisticated Storage" quest, in the "Basic Storage" chapter. That chapter is about storing items without needing power. The chapter has 90 quests and many are not covered here, so check the quest book for the rest.[2]
The metal chests follow one after another from that quest. "Copper Chest" quest (the Copper Chest or Copper Barrel) comes first, and the quest says you can skip it for an Iron Chest but it can save you some iron. After it come "Iron Chest" quest, then "Gold Chest" quest, then "Diamond Chest" quest, and finally "Netherite Chest" quest, which the book calls the biggest chest from the mod.[2]
Two other quests also follow straight from the main one: a quest in "Basic Storage" and a quest in "Basic Storage". The Upgrade Base quest points you to the Sophisticated Backpacks upgrades, since the Storage versions function about the same, and you'll need to make the Storage equivalent of the base (Upgrade Base).[2]
Linking storages together
The Storage Controller lets you work with multiple storages as one big multiblock. It acts as an in/out point for everything attached to it, so it can be combined with mods like Applied Energistics or Integrated Dynamics. Storages next to the controller, or next to ones already connected, join the network, up to 14 blocks away in all directions.[2]
For wireless linking, the a quest in "Basic Storage" quest comes after the controller. Right click the controller with the Storage Tool to bind it, then right click the storages to link them. The range is the same 14 blocks.[2]
After both of those comes a quest in "Basic Storage". The Storage Link wirelessly connects a multiblock of storages that aren't attached to a controller or to blocks connected to one, without right clicking each storage. The 14 block range still applies.[2]
How do you get started with Sophisticated Storage?
4 parts
Sophisticated Storage is all about upgrading chests and barrels tier by tier, then wiring them together into one big network. In this pack the recipes below are changed from the mod's defaults, so follow the recipe blocks here and not what you remember from other packs. Here is the order I'd go in.[2][3]
Start with a tiered chest
The first upgrade is the Copper Chest. It's optional: you don't need it to reach an Iron Chest, but you can use it if you want to save some iron. The barrel version counts for the quest too ("Copper Chest" quest).[2][3]

The Iron Chest is the one to aim for first. In the quest book it comes after the Copper Chest quest ("Iron Chest" quest), and the Gold Chest quest comes after it.[2][3]

Make the Upgrade Base
Grab the Upgrade Base early. The quest for it is called The Base for Upgrades (a quest in "Basic Storage"), and it says the storage upgrades work about the same as the Sophisticated Backpack upgrades. If you've used those, you already know what to expect.[2][3]

Link everything together
Once you have a few storages, build a Storage Controller. It lets you treat several storages as one big multiblock. Place storages next to the controller, or next to others already connected to it, up to 14 blocks away in all directions. The controller also works as an in/out point for mods like Applied Energistics or Integrated Dynamics (a quest in "Basic Storage").[2][3][4]

Keep climbing the tiers
After iron, the quest line goes Gold Chest ("Gold Chest" quest), Diamond Chest ("Diamond Chest" quest) and finally Netherite Chest ("Netherite Chest" quest). That last one is the biggest chest from Sophisticated Storage. Each quest accepts either the chest or the matching barrel, so pick whichever you prefer. The recipe blocks below show the first and last steps.[2]

How does Sophisticated Storage work?
9 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 7.0 guide
Sophisticated Storage is built around placeable storage blocks, such as the Chest, Barrel and the Limited Barrels from Limited Barrel 1 up to Limited Barrel 4. You then shape how each block behaves by putting upgrades in it. Some upgrades change capacity, some move items for you, and some add a whole crafting station as an extra tab. This section walks through how those pieces fit together.[5][6]
Limited Barrels
Limited Barrels trade slot count for bigger stacks. Each one's tooltip shows how many slots it has and its base stack size multiplier, so hover over it before you commit to one for a bulk item.[5]
Unverified The exact slot counts and stack multipliers for Limited Barrel I to IV in this pack are not given in the sources. Check the in-game tooltip.
Storage multiblocks
The big feature is linking many storage blocks into one multiblock. The Controller lets you deposit items into a connected multiblock of storages and pipe items in and out of it, so the whole group acts like one inventory from the outside.[5]
Your storages don't all need to touch each other. Storage connectors such as the Acacia Storage Connector or the Bamboo Storage Connector bridge gaps between storage blocks inside a multiblock. If you have a completely separate cluster somewhere else, a Storage Link connects that separate multiblock to the Controller. You make that connection with the Storage Tool.[5][6]
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: sophisticatedstorage:acacia_storage_connector
Each wood type has its own connector recipe in this pack.
The Storage Tool has more than one job. It links storages, locks them, and hides counts, tiers and locks on your storages for a cleaner look. You switch between its modes with a keybind, which the tool's tooltip shows.[5]
Piping into and out of a multiblock
To automate a multiblock, place one of three blocks as part of it. Each one gives your pipes a different kind of access:[5]
- The Storage Input only lets you pipe items into the multiblock. It is also optimized for low tps impact.[5]
- The Storage Output only lets you pipe items out of the multiblock.[5]
- The Storage I/O lets you pipe items both into and out of the multiblock.[5]
This pack has changed the recipes for these three blocks, and you can convert them into each other in a loop in the crafting grid. So if you built the wrong type, you can just craft it into the one you need.[6]
Capacity: stack upgrades and downgrades
Stack upgrades multiply how many stacks fit in each slot. These are the tiers:[5]
- Tier 1 multiplies stacks per slot by 2.[5]
- Tier 1 Plus multiplies stacks per slot by 3.[5]
- Tier 2 multiplies stacks per slot by 4.[5]
- Tier 3 multiplies stacks per slot by 8.[5]
- Tier 4 multiplies stacks per slot by 16.[5]
- Tier 5 multiplies stacks per slot by 32.[5]
- Omega tier multiplies stacks per slot by the maximum value, ×33,554,431.[5]
Stack downgrades go the other way. The three tiers divide the number of stacks per slot by 8, 16 and 32. They are handy when you want a storage to hold only a small amount of each item.[5]
Moving items with upgrades
Even without a multiblock, a single storage block can do a lot of item handling through upgrades:[5]
- The Hopper Upgrade pulls items from the block on top and/or pushes them to the block below. The advanced version is faster and adds input and output options.[5]
- The Filter Upgrade filters items piped into and/or out of the storage. The advanced version has more filtering options.[5]
- The Pickup Upgrade makes the storage pick up items. The Magnet Upgrade pulls items into the storage from range, and the advanced magnet reaches a greater range. Both advanced versions add more filtering.[5]
- The Void Upgrade voids items you select in its filter. The advanced version has more filtering options.[5]
- The Compacting Upgrade compacts items into their compressed variants, using only 2x2 recipes. The advanced version handles both 2x2 and 3x3 recipes and has more filtering. The Compression Upgrade automatically compresses and decompresses items.[5]
Processing inside your storage
Some upgrades put a workstation right in an upgrade tab. The crafting, stonecutter, smelting, smoking and blasting upgrades each give you that station inside the storage's interface. The automatic versions go further. The Auto-smelting Upgrade, Auto-smoking Upgrade and Auto-blasting Upgrade automatically pull and push items, so the storage processes its own contents.[5]
In this pack, you make the Auto-blasting and Auto-smoking Upgrades from an Auto-smelting Upgrade. Get the smelting version first.[6]

A couple of upgrades work on you, the player. The Feeding Upgrade feeds you food from the storage's inventory. The Alchemy Upgrade automatically uses potions, food with effects, or milk buckets. The advanced versions add more options for when you get fed and extra effect filtering.[5]
Fluids and experience
Fluid and XP handling goes through the Tank upgrade. The Pump Upgrade pumps fluids between a Tank upgrade and adjacent blocks. The advanced pump also works with fluid containers in your hand and fluid blocks in the world, and lets you filter which fluids get pumped. The XP Pump Upgrade moves experience between a Tank upgrade and the player.[5]
Tier upgrades
The Basic Tier Upgrade upgrades vanilla inventories to their sophisticated version. There is also a chain of tier upgrades, and in this pack each one is crafted from the previous one. The chain goes from Basic to Copper Tier Upgrade to Basic to Iron Tier Upgrade, then Basic to Gold Tier Upgrade, and finally Basic to Diamond Tier Upgrade.[5][6]

Unverified The sources do not say exactly what each Basic-to-X tier upgrade does to a placed storage, for example how many slots or upgrade slots each tier adds.
Settings and special upgrades
Each storage has its own settings tab. Settings are either inherited from your player settings or overridden just for that storage.[5]
How do you progress through Sophisticated Storage?
3 parts
Storage progression in this pack follows the Basic Storage quest chapter. It is a tier ladder: Copper, Iron, Gold, Diamond, then Netherite. Each tier has its own quest. The recipes below are all listed in the pack's recipe data as changed by the pack, so follow what the site shows rather than what you remember from the mod's defaults.[2][3]
The tier ladder
The chapter starts with "Copper Chest" quest, which accepts either a Copper Chest or a Copper Barrel. Next comes "Iron Chest" quest with the Iron Chest or Iron Barrel. After that you reach "Gold Chest" quest, "Diamond Chest" quest and finally "Netherite Chest" quest. Each quest takes either the chest or the barrel version of its tier.[2]

The mod's moving storage (storage minecarts and boats) also has tier upgrade recipes that mirror this ladder, from Copper up to Netherite.[3]
Connecting your storage
Alongside the tiers, the chapter has a few quests about linking storages together. The Storage Controller lets you work with multiple storages as one big multiblock. It also acts as an in/out point for mods like Applied Energistics or Integrated Dynamics. You connect storages by placing them next to the controller or next to storages already connected to it, up to 14 blocks away in all directions.[2]

How does Sophisticated Storage work with other mods?
4 parts
Sophisticated Storage connects to other mods in this pack in a few ways. It shares upgrades with Sophisticated Backpacks, it has workbench upgrades built from Chipped blocks, it has a sawmill upgrade built from the Saw, and the Storage Controller is described in the quest book as an in/out point for Applied Energistics and Integrated Dynamics.[2][3]
Sharing upgrades with Sophisticated Backpacks
If you use both mods, you can convert upgrades between them. The pack has recipes that turn a Sophisticated Storage upgrade into the matching Sophisticated Backpacks upgrade, and the pack has changed all of these recipes. The one below turns a storage Magnet Upgrade into the backpack Magnet Upgrade.[3]

The storage-to-backpack conversions cover filter, void, feeding, compacting, smelting, jukebox and the other standard upgrades, including their advanced versions. The stack upgrades are numbered differently between the two mods. The storage Stack Upgrade Tier 1 Plus converts to the backpack Stack Upgrade Starter Tier, and the storage Stack Upgrade Tier 2 converts to the backpack Stack Upgrade Tier 1. The stack downgrades convert too.[3]
The quest a quest in "Basic Storage" in the Basic Storage chapter, which comes after the Sophisticated Storage quest, points you at the Sophisticated Backpacks upgrades as well. You still make the Sophisticated Storage equivalents, but they function about the same.[2]
Chipped workbench upgrades
Each Chipped workbench has its own storage upgrade. The pack has changed all of these recipes, and each one uses the matching Chipped block together with an Upgrade Base. The upgrades are:[3]
- Chipped: Alchemy Bench Upgrade, made with the Alchemy Bench[3]
- Chipped: Botanist's Workbench Upgrade, made with the Botanist Workbench[3]
- Chipped: Carpenters Workbench Upgrade, made with the Carpenters Table[3]
- Chipped: Glassblower Upgrade, made with the Glassblower[3]

Logistics and networks
In the quest a quest in "Basic Storage", the Storage Controller lets several storages work as one big storage multiblock. The quest says this can be combined with Applied Energistics or Integrated Dynamics, because the controller acts as the in/out point for all storages attached to it.[2]
Storages connect by sitting next to the controller or next to another connected storage, up to 14 blocks away in all directions. For wireless links, the quest a quest in "Basic Storage" says to use the Storage Tool: right-click the controller to bind it, then right-click the storages to link them. The Storage Link connects storages that are not attached to a controller or to blocks connected to it. The same 14-block range applies to all of these.[2]
Which All the Mons quests use Sophisticated Storage?
4 parts
The Sophisticated Storage quests you can see in this pack sit in the Basic Storage chapter, which "Basic Storage" quest introduces as the place for basic ways to store items without needing power. They split into two short lines that both branch off the same starting quest.[2]
The starting quest
"Sophisticated Storage" quest is the entry point. It explains that the mod lets you upgrade Chests and Barrels with metals to increase their storage, and that you can add upgrades to extend what they do. These chests behave like a vanilla Chest or Barrel, but they have a slot for a Storage Upgrade. The Copper Chest, Iron Chest, Upgrade Base and Storage Controller quests all come after it.[2]
Chest and barrel tiers
The tier quests run in a straight line. Each one accepts either the chest or the barrel version of that metal.[2]
- "Copper Chest" quest: hand in a Copper Chest or Copper Barrel. The quest says it isn't needed to make an Iron Chest, but you can use it if you want to save some Iron.[2]
- "Iron Chest" quest: hand in an Iron Chest or Iron Barrel. It comes after the starting quest and the Copper Chest quest.[2]
- "Gold Chest" quest: hand in a Gold Chest or Gold Barrel.[2]
- "Diamond Chest" quest: hand in a Diamond Chest or Diamond Barrel.[2]
- "Netherite Chest" quest: hand in a Netherite Chest or Netherite Barrel. The quest calls it the biggest of the chests from Sophisticated Storage.[2]
Upgrade Base and the Controller line
a quest in "Basic Storage" asks for the Upgrade Base. Its text points you to the Sophisticated Backpack upgrade quests, saying you will need to make the Sophisticated Storage equivalent, but that the upgrades function about the same.[2]
The other branch is about linking storages together, and it goes in this order:[2]
- a quest in "Basic Storage": the Storage Controller lets you work with multiple storages as one big multiblock. It can act as the in/out point for mods like Applied Energistics or Integrated Dynamics. Storages connect by sitting next to the controller or next to storages already connected to it.[2]
- a quest in "Basic Storage": the Storage Tool links storages wirelessly. Right click the Storage Controller to bind it, then right click the storages to link them.[2]
- a quest in "Basic Storage": the Storage Link connects storages that are not attached to a controller or to blocks connected to it. It comes after both the Storage Controller and Storage Tool quests.[2]
Create chapter
Among the Create quests that are shown, the only mention of Sophisticated Storage is in "Stock Link" quest, which names it as a comparison for combining inventories and viewing them through a few simple machines. The text of 19 of the 90 Create quests is not included here, so check the quest book for those.[7]
