Sophisticated Storage In Motion in All the Mons

Sophisticated Storage In Motion is included in this pack at version 0.1.2, built for Minecraft 1.21.1 (file sophisticatedstorageinmotion-1.21.1-0.1.2.15.jar). It has been in the pack since version 2.16 or earlier, so it isn't a new addition. If you're updating from an older version of the pack, it should already be in your instance.^[1]

Unverified I couldn't confirm from the available sources what the mod adds or how it plays. There is no in-jar guidebook or platform description to draw on, so I won't guess at its features, items or recipes.

Unverified I also couldn't confirm where the mod fits in this pack's progression. No quests involving it turned up, and it isn't on the ATM Star quest path, so you won't be nudged toward it by the questbook.

This mod puts your storage on the move. It adds the Storage Minecart and the Storage Boat, which carry a Sophisticated Storage block as their cargo. The first steps are to get one of each and then learn how upgrades work in this pack.^[2][3]

Step 1: a storage minecart

The easiest way in is to convert a vanilla chest minecart. The result is a minecart carrying a Sophisticated Storage chest, so you get its storage on rails without building anything new.^[2]

Step 2: a storage boat

Boats come in one recipe per wood type. This pack changed the recipe that combines a plain boat with a Sophisticated Storage block, so use the in-pack recipe below and not what you remember from the mod's defaults. Oak is shown here, and the other woods follow the same pattern.^[2]

Step 3: upgrade the cargo

Once you have a boat or minecart, you can upgrade the storage it carries. The pack marks these tier upgrade recipes as changed, and there are a lot of them: 70 shaped and 14 shapeless. They cover chests, barrels, shulker boxes and limited barrels, and the result is still a storage boat or minecart with the upgraded block on it.^[2]

Sophisticated Storage In Motion puts storage on the move. Its language file names four kinds of vehicle storage: a storage boat, a storage raft, a storage minecart, and a chested horse with storage. The boat item is Storage Boat, and the other vehicles have items and entities of their own.^[3]

Getting a storage boat

There are two ways in. The first starts from a vanilla chest boat and gives you a boat carrying a Sophisticated Storage chest. This is the mod's own recipe, and the pack has not changed it. The birch version is shown below, and acacia and bamboo have matching ones.^[2]

The second way fits a storage block you already have onto a plain boat. It works with any block in the Sophisticated Storage all_storage tag, so it is not limited to chests. These recipes use the mod's own moving_storage_from_storage type, and the pack has changed them. There are 10 of them in total, and bamboo has a raft version.^[2]

Upgrading the storage tier

You can upgrade the storage while it is still on the boat, so you don't have to take it off. The dump lists 70 shaped tier upgrade recipes and 14 shapeless ones, and the pack has changed the ones written out in the dump. The shaped ones cover steps such as chest to copper chest and chest to iron chest, and barrels have equivalents.^[2]

The netherite step is different. It is a shapeless recipe that starts from the diamond version, and the dump shows it for chests, barrels and shulker boxes.^[2]

Unverified The sources don't confirm how the storage on a vehicle is opened, how many slots it has, or whether upgrades and contents carry over when you swap or upgrade it. The pack also has no config file for this mod, so there are no settings to tune.

Progression for this mod in the pack is all about recipes. The idea is simple: get a storage vehicle first, then upgrade the storage inside it tier by tier, without rebuilding the vehicle.^[4]

Unverified The sources here show no quests for this mod and do not place it on the ATM Star quest path. If the pack's quest book says anything about when to build these vehicles, that detail is not covered here.

Step 1: Get a storage vehicle

The quickest way in is to convert a vanilla chest boat you already have into a Storage Boat carrying a Sophisticated Storage chest. There is one of these recipes for every wood type, including the bamboo raft. Here's the oak one:^[4]

Step 2: Climb the tiers

Once you have a storage boat, you upgrade the storage in place. The tier ladder runs copper, iron, gold, diamond, then netherite. Chests and barrels can jump from the base tier straight to copper or iron, and every other step moves up one tier at a time. The pack changed all of these upgrade recipes.^[4]

In this pack, Sophisticated Storage In Motion connects to other mods through recipes. They link it to vanilla chest boats and minecarts, to the base Sophisticated Storage containers, and to the metals and gems you already mine.^[4]

Vanilla chest boats and minecarts

You turn vanilla vehicles into storage vehicles by combining them with a Redstone Torch. These are shapeless crafting recipes, so placement in the grid doesn't matter. The results listed are a Sophisticated Storage Chest and either a storage boat or a storage minecart.^[4]

• Oak Chest Boat, Spruce Chest Boat, Birch Chest Boat and Jungle Chest Boat each have their own conversion recipe.^[4]
• Acacia Chest Boat, Dark Oak Chest Boat, Mangrove Chest Boat and Cherry Chest Boat work the same way.^[4]
• The Bamboo Chest Raft gets its own recipe too, and it also produces a storage boat.^[4]
• The Chest Minecart converts into a Storage Minecart.^[4]

Upgrading tiers with ingots and gems

You can upgrade the container on a storage vehicle without taking it apart. The upgrade recipes take common material tags, so any item in the tag works, whichever mod it comes from. The sources list these upgrade recipes as changed by the pack, so don't assume the mod's default costs.^[4]

• Copper: a storage boat carrying a chest, barrel or shulker box upgrades to the copper version with any copper ingot, for example the Copper Chest.^[4]
• Iron: use any iron ingot, either from a basic container or from a copper one, for example the Iron Chest.^[4]
• Gold: iron containers upgrade to gold with any gold ingot, for example the Gold Barrel.^[4]
• Diamond: gold containers upgrade to diamond with any diamond gem, for example the Diamond Chest.^[4]
• Netherite: diamond containers upgrade to netherite with any netherite ingot, for example the Netherite Barrel. These netherite recipes are shapeless, while the lower tiers are shaped.^[4]

Limited barrels, such as the Limited Iron Barrel 1 and its II, III and IV variants, have matching boat upgrade recipes at each tier from copper up to netherite.^[4]

The storage minecart upgrade recipes in the sources cover chests and barrels going to copper and iron, copper going to iron (including the copper shulker box), and diamond chests and barrels going to netherite.^[4]
