What is ModularBees?
1 part
Same as in the All the Mods 10 5.5 guide
ModularBees (version 1.21.1-2.5-neoforge in this pack) is all about compact bee processing. Instead of loose hives and single machines, you build multiblocks: a Modular Beehive to make combs and honey, and a Modular Centrifuge to process them. You then customise both by swapping in functional parts.[1][2][3]
The Modular Beehive is a 3x3x3 cube run by its core block. You can replace any structure box with a functional part to improve it, but it doesn't allow shared blocks. It has a built-in simulate upgrade, so your bees never fly out of the hive. They also won't breed or do in-world transformation recipes, which saves performance. In exchange, they produce combs and honey at incredible speed once you add upgrades.[2]
The core can't hold bees itself. Your bees live in Alveary parts, which hold 5 bees each, and you move bees in and out by right-clicking an Alveary with bee cages. Bees only look for flowers in the Modular Feeder, which holds 9 types of flowers. It can also take a bucket or tank for bees that need a fluid flower.[4][5]
Upgrades and processing
- The Beehive Overclocker uses energy and Electrodes to speed up production, and multiple overclockers stack additively.[6]
- The Beehive Treater feeds your bees extra food so they make more combs.[7]
- The Beehive Stacker raises the stack size of the hive's output inventory.[8]
- Export hatches automatically send products and honey from the hive, or items and fluids from the centrifuge, into the chest or tank they face.[9][10]
- The Modular Centrifuge supports all centrifuge upgrades and starts at the basic centrifuge's 15s process time. You can boost it with a Gearbox, which needs wax, or a Heater, which needs power and makes it work 3 times faster.[3][11][12]
There's more beyond the core machines too. The mod also adds a Modular Dragon Hive for collecting dragon breath from draconic bees, and a Bee Extractor that pulls genes from a bee into a bottle.[13][14]
Unverified Exactly where ModularBees fits in this pack's overall progression isn't covered by the available sources.
How do you get started with ModularBees?
5 parts
ModularBees is about building a beehive out of blocks. The Modular Beehive is the controller of a 3x3x3 cube multiblock. Bees inside it don't breed or do in-world transformation recipes, and they produce combs and honey at incredible speed once you add upgrades. This is the order I'd build things in.[16]
Scented Planks and Structure Boxes
Everything starts with Scented Plank. The pack adds its own recipe for it, and one craft gives you 4 planks.[17]

Next comes the Beehive Structure Box. It is the filler block of the hive: you can swap any Beehive Structure Box for a functional part later to improve the hive. The pack adds this recipe too.[16][17]

The core and a home for your bees
Now craft the Modular Beehive. This is also a pack-added recipe. Keep in mind that a Modular Beehive doesn't allow shared blocks, so two hives can't use the same block.[16][17]

The core can't hold bees by itself, so you also need a Modular Alveary. Each Alveary holds 5 bees. You put bees in with bee cages, and you can right-click the Alveary with a cage to insert or extract bees.[18]

Speeding things up
Once the hive runs, the Beehive Overclocker is the big upgrade. It needs energy and an Electrode to work, and better Electrodes give a higher speed boost. Several overclockers add their boosts together. The in-game guide's example is two Netherite Electrodes giving x9 (+800%).[21]

There are four electrode tiers: Copper Electrode, Iron Electrode, Gold Electrode and Netherite Electrode. In this pack each tier is crafted from the one below it, so start with copper. The first three recipes are added by the pack, and the pack changed the Netherite one.[17][21]

Other upgrades worth knowing
- Beehive Treater feeds your bees extra food for more combs. It only uses food when bees finish collecting nectar, and the boost weakens if the food can't feed every bee.[22]
- Beehive Stacker raises the max stack size of the output inventory. Each stacker gives a 3x boost by default, and multiple stackers add together.[23]
Once your hive is running, the Modular Centrifuge is the next multiblock to look at. It is a 3x3x3 centrifuge with the same base process time as the basic centrifuge, 15s.[24]
How does ModularBees work?
10 parts
ModularBees is built around multiblock machines: the Modular Beehive for bees and the Modular Centrifuge for processing combs. Both work the same way. You build a 3x3x3 structure, then swap ordinary structure blocks for functional parts that change how the machine behaves. Neither multiblock allows shared blocks, so each one needs its own structure.[16][24]
Modular Beehive
The Modular Beehive is the controller of a 3x3x3 cube. Any Beehive Structure Box in the cube can be replaced with a functional part to improve the hive.[16]
This hive is a simulation. It has a built-in simulate upgrade, so bees won't come out of the hive. They also won't breed or do in-world transformation recipes inside it, which saves performance. Instead they produce combs and honey at incredible speed once you add upgrades.[16]

Housing bees: the Alveary
The core can't hold bees by itself. You need a Modular Alveary for that, and each one holds 5 bees. Bees go in using bee cages, and you can right-click the Alveary with a cage to put bees in or take them out.[18]

Speed, stack size and food
The Beehive Overclocker makes bees produce faster. It needs both energy and an electrode, and better electrodes give a bigger speed boost. Several overclockers add together instead of multiplying.[21]

There are four electrode tiers: Copper Electrode, Iron Electrode, Gold Electrode and Netherite Electrode. You can see each one's boost in JEI or its tooltip. In a beehive, electrodes take more damage the more bees are inside. The formula is floor[(x/15+1)*(1.03^x)], where x is the number of bees.[21][26]

The Beehive Treater feeds your bees extra food so they produce more combs, and several treaters add together. Unlike the overclocker, it only uses food when a bee finishes collecting nectar. Every bee needs food supply, and the boost is weakened if the food can't feed every bee. The remains are sent to the output inventory. Valid foods and their boosts are listed in JEI.[22]
The pack ships its own recipe schema for treater food. It has a food ingredient, a boost value that defaults to 1.0, and an optional remains item, and each food can only be defined once.[27]
Getting items out
The Beehive Export Hatch acts as a proxy of the core block for logistics. It automatically sends products and honey to the chest or tank it faces. The Beehive ME Export Hatch is the ME version, and the pack changed its recipe.[17][20][26]

Modular Centrifuge
The Modular Centrifuge controls a 3x3x3 structure, with 4 corners at the bottom layer. As with the hive, you replace structure blocks with functional parts. It supports all centrifuge upgrades: speed upgrades shorten the process time and productivity upgrades increase parallel. The base process time is 15s, the same as the basic centrifuge.[24]

Input and output
The Centrifuge Import Hatch is an input buffer. It automatically pulls combs from the chest or tank it faces, and the centrifuge can use its inventory directly as input. On the output side, the Centrifuge Export Hatch is a proxy of the core that sends items and fluids to the chest or tank it faces.[29][30]

Functional parts
- Centrifuge Gearbox: increases parallel by 1.5 and needs wax to work. Several gearboxes add together, and each work cycle uses 40 wax.[31]
- Centrifuge Heater: makes the centrifuge work like a Heated Centrifuge, so it can process comb blocks and destroys all wax. It needs power and makes the centrifuge work 3 times faster. Only one heater is allowed per centrifuge, and once it is installed the centrifuge only works while the heater is powered.[32]
- Centrifuge Overclocker: speeds up the centrifuge and, like the beehive version, needs energy and an electrode. Several overclockers add together. Here electrodes lose 1 durability at every work tick.[33]

How do you progress through ModularBees?
5 parts
ModularBees has no tier ladder of its own in this pack. Your progression is the crafting chain, and the pack rewrote the early links of it with its own recipes. Start at the Scented Plank, build the Modular Beehive, then add parts to speed it up. The Modular Centrifuge is a second multiblock on the same idea.[17][25]
The Modular Beehive line
Everything starts with the Scented Plank. The pack removed the mod's default recipe and added its own. The Beehive Structure Box (the Beehive Structure Box) is also a pack recipe.[17][25]

Two more upgrades use the Structure Box with mod-default recipes. The Beehive Stacker raises the max stack size of the hive's output inventory, by 3x per stack by default, and several stackers add together. The Beehive Treater feeds your bees extra food for more combs, and multiple treaters also add together. It only uses food when bees finish collecting nectar, and every bee needs a food supply or the boost weakens. Leftovers go to the output inventory. Valid foods and their boosts are in JEI, and the pack ships its own data file for treater food.[17][22][23][27]

In the quest book
The only quest in the sources that mentions Modular Bees is "Automating the Potion Brewer" quest, in the Industrial Foregoing chapter (Tech group). It shows how to automate the Potion Brewer with AE2, using a Potion of Healing for Royal Treats as its example.[35]
How does ModularBees work with other mods?
3 parts
ModularBees is mostly a Productive Bees add-on, so most of its links to other mods are crafting links. Your Productive Bees gear and Productive Lib upgrades feed directly into the multiblocks. The pack also reshapes a few recipes with its own items, and the quest book mentions Modular Bees in the Industrial Foregoing chapter.[17][25]
Productive Bees and Productive Lib
The Modular Dragon Hive is where the two mods meet most directly. The recipe below ties the Modular Bees Beehive Structure Box to the Productive Bees Dragon Egg Hive. In the in-game guide, it is the special hive for collecting dragon breath from draconic bees.[17][28]
The Modular Centrifuge side leans on Productive Bees too. The Modular Centrifuge needs a Centrifuge, an Inactive Dragon Egg and a Productive Lib entity filter upgrade. The Centrifuge Heater needs a Heated Centrifuge, and the Centrifuge Structure Wall uses Obsidian Shard and Wither Skull Chip.[17]

Recipes the pack changed
The pack's server script removes several default Modular Bees recipes and adds its own versions. Three of the replacements are the Modular Beehive, the Modular Feeder and the Beehive Overclocker. The core pulls in Productive Lib upgrades and an unobtainium ingot. The feeder uses the Productive Bees Feeding Slab, and the overclocker uses a Productive Lib productivity upgrade. These are not the mod's default recipes.[17][25]

Industrial Foregoing quests
The quest "Automating the Potion Brewer" quest sits in the Industrial Foregoing chapter (group Tech, chapter 48 of 70 in the book), and comes after the Potion Brewer quest. It teaches you to automate the Potion Brewer with AE2, and its example is brewing Potions of Healing with Royal Treats for Modular Bees in mind. The chapter has 76 quests and the rest of them are in the quest book.[35]
Which All the Mons quests use ModularBees?
2 parts
Modular Bees only shows up in one place in the pack's quest book: a single quest in the "Industrial Foregoing" chapter, in the Tech group (chapter 48 of 70). There is no chapter dedicated to the mod. Its mention is a side note inside an Applied Energistics 2 automation guide.[35]
Where it sits in the chapter
The quest is "Automating the Potion Brewer" quest, and it comes right after a quest in "Industrial Foregoing". That one asks for the Potion Brewer, a machine that brews potions using Blaze Powder as fuel and bottles, and can fill those bottles with water by itself.[35]
The Potion Brewer quest unlocks after "Advanced Machine Frame" quest, so you reach the Modular Bees mention once you are past the Simple Machine Frame and the Advanced Machine Frame in the chapter.[35]
What the quest asks for
The quest tasks are the Advanced Pattern Encoder and the ME Export Bus. The book also lists a third task item with no id shown. The quest walks you through using AE2 to automate the Potion Brewer.[35]
- Build the setup shown in the quest, then use either an Export Bus or an Interface to fill the Potion Brewer with Water and Blaze Powder. The Blaze Powder is the fuel.[35]
- Hold off on providing bottles at first, because they will fill your network with Water Bottles.[35]
- The next step is to get an Advanced Pattern Provider. The quest points you to the Extended & Advanced AE chapter to learn how to use it.[35]
- Encode a pattern with the Advanced Pattern Encoder. The quest's example brews a Potion of Healing, aimed at Royal Treats for Modular Bees, and uses the provider's ability to send items to a specific side so the Glass Bottles go into the TOP side of the machine.[35]
- Enable Filtered Import on the Advanced Provider. The quest says this makes the provider only accept items that match currently active crafting jobs, so it won't accept potions prematurely. You can also add Processing Addons, especially for large crafting jobs that may use the same provider.[35]
- Configure the sides of the Potion Brewer as the quest shows. It gives one layout for the Export Bus method and another for the Interface method.[35]
