What is Lootr?
1 part
Lootr makes sure nobody misses out on loot. Every container that has a loot table gets its own inventory for each player who opens it, so there is no race to be first into a structure and you never open a loot chest and find someone's left-over trash.[1]
It covers chests, trapped chests, barrels, shulkers and minecarts that have a loot table. These containers look different from the vanilla ones, and their colour changes from gold to blue once you have opened that container.[1]
The pack ships the NeoForge build for Minecraft 1.21.1, version 1.11.38.125. The mod is currently required on both the server and the client.[1][2]
Good to know
- Lootr only changes the containers. The loot inside is generated the same way vanilla chests generate it.[1]
- By default, if you try to break a Lootr container you get a warning that all containers are per-player. You can still break one while sneaking, unless that option is disabled in the configuration.[1]
- If a container from another mod does not convert, that mod may be filling it with items by hand instead of using a loot table, and Lootr cannot detect a loot table in that case.[1]
- Loot containers that were already opened in an existing world will not be converted when the mod is added, because vanilla loot generation removes the loot table and Lootr has no way to find that information.[1]
- To make a starter chest for everyone, fill a vanilla chest, stand on it and run the /lootr custom command. This needs operator privileges.[1]
How do you get started with Lootr?
2 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.4 guide
Good news: Lootr doesn't ask you to build anything first. It changes how loot containers behave. Every container with a loot table (chests, trapped chests, barrels, shulkers and minecarts) gives each player their own inventory when they open it. Nobody races you to the loot, and you never find a chest someone else already picked clean.[1]
You can spot these containers by their look. They have a distinct appearance, and the colour changes from gold to blue once you've opened one. Lootr must be installed on both the server and the client, so if you play multiplayer, everyone needs it.[1]
Your first steps
- Find a Lootr container, such as a Loot Chest, a Loot Barrel or a Loot Shulker, and open it. The inventory you see is yours alone.[1][3]
- Look at the colour afterwards. Blue means you've already opened it, so you know not to go back.[1]
- Try the other container types. Lootr also has a Decorated Loot Pot, an item frame with loot and a minecart with a loot chest, and each has its own advancement.[3]
Advancements to chase
Lootr adds its own advancements, which make a handy checklist. The root one is about bringing instanced loot to your world. After that you can open your first Lootr chest, barrel, minecart, shulker box or trapped chest, loot an item from an item frame, and loot a decorated pot.[3]
- Open 10, 25, 50 and then 100 Lootr containers.[3]
- Open one of every Lootr container type.[3]
- Brush all types of suspicious Lootr blocks, which come as suspicious sand and suspicious gravel.[3]
Unverified No crafting recipe for Lootr containers was found in the pack data, and no Lootr config file is included, so there is nothing to craft or tune for this mod.
How does Lootr work?
7 parts
Lootr makes loot containers instanced per player so nobody misses out. Its project page describes it as a mod that changes how containers behave, and it is currently required on both servers and clients.[1]
Per-player loot
According to the project page, every container that has a loot table creates a unique inventory for each player who opens it. That covers chests, trapped chests, barrels, shulkers and minecarts. There is no race to a structure, and you never open a chest to find someone else's leftovers.[1]
Lootr containers also look different from vanilla ones. Their colour changes from gold to blue once you have opened them, so you can tell at a glance what you have already looted. The project page says Lootr is currently required on both the server and the client.[1]
What counts as a Lootr container
The mod's language file names these blocks and entities: Loot Chest, Loot Barrel, Loot Shulker, Decorated Loot Pot, the Minecart with Loot Chest and the Item Frame with Loot. It also names a trapped chest variant, which shows up as Loot Chest too.[4]
Lootr also has its own suspicious Sand and Gravel blocks for brushing, and a Centennial Trophy block. The advancements give you a checklist: open one of every container type, brush every kind of suspicious Lootr block, and open 10, 25, 50 and 100 containers in total.[4]
Where the loot comes from
Lootr only changes the containers. Loot is generated exactly as vanilla chests generate it. Changing what drops, or adding loot from other mods, is done through loot tables, usually with data packs, and not through Lootr itself.[1]
Breaking containers
By default, if you try to break a Lootr container you get a warning that every container is available per player. You can still break it by sneaking while you do it, unless that option is disabled in the configuration.[1]
Decay, refresh and blacklists
The mod has several tools for dungeon-style content. Specific loot tables, all loot tables from one mod, or whole dimensions can be blacklisted, so those chests are never converted. Containers can be set to decay: a configurable time after first being opened, the next attempt to open one destroys the block. The opposite also exists, a refresh, where contents regenerate after a configured time.[1]
Unverified The pack ships no Lootr config file in the sources I was given, so I can't confirm which blacklists, decay timers or refresh timers this pack actually uses.
Custom starter chests
You can make your own Lootr container. Place a vanilla chest and fill it with what you want everyone to get. Then stand on it and run the /lootr custom command, which needs operator privileges. The result is a custom inventory that looks like a Lootr chest.[1]
Conversion and removal
- Adding Lootr to an existing world works, and containers get converted. Containers that were already opened are not converted, because vanilla removes the loot table on generation and Lootr can't recover it.[1]
- A container from another mod may not convert if that mod fills it with items manually instead of using a loot table. Empty containers may just be decoration.[1]
- The project page notes that the axe chest in the vanilla Woodland Mansion has no associated loot table and is never converted.[1]
- Removing Lootr also removes every Lootr container from your world, and there is currently no way to undo the conversion.[1]
There is also an advancement for triggering Lootr's emergency conversion contingency on an eligible chest. The sources don't explain how that mechanic works, so I won't guess.[4]
How do you progress through Lootr?
Lootr has no tiers or crafting path that I can show you for this pack. The only pack script in my sources adds shaped recipes for the infinity cells, such as the lava, dirt, moss and coloured concrete cells. It is an ExtendedAE script, and none of its recipes involve Lootr.[5]
Unverified No quests in this pack involve Lootr, and no recipes produce its items, so there is no quest-driven progression or tier breakdown for it to describe here.
Which Lootr config options matter?
Same as in the All the Mods 10 2.11 guide
There's nothing to report here: the pack ships no config file for this mod, so it runs on whatever the mod does out of the box. Nothing has been tweaked or overridden for you, which means the behaviour you read about elsewhere in this guide is simply how the mod behaves by default.[1]
That default behaviour is the part that actually matters for play. Every container that has a loot table (chests, trapped chests, barrels, shulkers and minecarts) gives each player their own instanced inventory, and those containers look distinct, shifting from gold to blue once you've opened them.[1]
Unverified Specific config keys, such as options for which containers get converted, decay or refresh timers, or blacklists for particular structures, can't be confirmed for this pack because no config file for the mod is included in it. Don't assume any value you see quoted for other packs applies here.
What changed in Lootr between versions?
3 parts
All the Mons 1.3.0 ships Lootr 1.21.1-1.11.38.125 for NeoForge. It has been in the pack since 0.3.0-beta or earlier. Below are the notable changes from Lootr's own changelogs, newest first, covering the releases I have notes for.[2]
