What is Lootr?
3 parts
Lootr makes sure nobody misses out on loot. Every container that has a loot table gets its own inventory for each player who opens it. That covers chests, trapped chests, barrels, shulkers and minecarts. When you open a structure chest, you get your own loot, and nobody can have emptied it before you.[1]
Lootr containers also look different from vanilla ones. They show up gold, and the colour changes to blue once you have opened that container, so you can tell at a glance which ones you have already looted.[1]
Why it matters
It is great for multiplayer. There is no race to reach a structure first, and you never open a chest to find someone else's leftovers. It also encourages everyone to explore existing structures instead of generating new chunks, which helps keep the world size down.[1]
Lootr only changes the containers. The loot itself is generated the same way vanilla chests generate it.[1]
In this pack
The pack includes Lootr 1.11.38.124 for Minecraft 1.21.1 on NeoForge.[2]
Lootr is currently required on both the server and the client, and there is no server-only version, so everyone joining a server needs it installed.[1]
Good to know
- Players who try to break a container get a warning that all containers are per-player. By default they can still break it by sneaking, unless that option is disabled in the configuration.[1]
- There is a client-side option to use the default vanilla skin for containers, but then you lose the visual hint that a container was already opened.[1]
- Removing the mod later also removes every Lootr container from your world, and the conversion can't be undone.[1]
- Operators can make a shared starter chest: fill a vanilla chest, stand on it and run the /lootr custom command.[1]
How do you get started with Lootr?
4 parts
As the project page describes it, Lootr changes how the loot containers in the world behave, so your first steps are about exploring and opening things.[1]
What Lootr does for you
The project page says each container that has a loot table (supporting chests, trapped chests, barrels, shulkers and minecarts) creates a unique inventory for each player who opens it. That means no race to be first at a structure, and you never open a chest and find someone else's leftovers.[1]
These containers also have a distinct appearance. Their colour changes from gold to blue if you have already opened the container, so you can tell which ones you have looted.[1]
Your first steps
- Go exploring. The project page says Lootr encourages players to explore existing structures rather than generate new chunks, so head for the ones that are already out there.[1]
- Open your first Lootr chest. There is an advancement for it, and each player gets their own inventory from the container.[1][3]
- Look for the other container types, such as barrels, minecarts, shulker boxes, trapped chests, item frames and decorated pots. Each has its own first-time advancement.[3]
- Brush suspicious Lootr blocks. There are advancements for brushing all the types and for looting all of Lootr's archaeological blocks.[3]
Advancements to aim for
Lootr has its own advancement line. The root advancement is about bringing instanced loot to your world. Opening one of every Lootr container type earns another, and there are milestones for opening 10, 25, 50 and 100 containers.[3]
Things to know before you play
How does Lootr work?
6 parts
Lootr has no machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or item automation. The sources describe it as a mod that changes how loot containers behave, so this section covers instanced loot, how containers look, and the options that control them.[1]
Instanced loot per player
Every container that has a loot table gets its own inventory for each player who opens it. That covers chests, trapped chests, barrels, shulker boxes and minecarts. There's no race to a structure, and you'll never open a chest and find someone else's leftovers.[1]
Lootr is currently required on both the server and the client, so there is no server-only version at the moment.[1]
Lootr only changes the containers. Loot is generated exactly as vanilla chests generate it. If you want to change what drops, that's done through data packs or other mods, not through Lootr.[1]
How containers look
Lootr containers have a distinct look. Their colour changes from gold to blue once you've opened them, so you can see at a glance what you've already looted.[1]
A client-side option forces containers to use the default vanilla skin. The trade-off is that you lose the visual hint of whether you've opened a container.[1]
Breaking, decay and refresh
By default in the mod, breaking a container gives you a warning that containers are available per player. You can still break one by sneaking, unless that option is disabled in the configuration.[1]
The mod can also blacklist specific loot tables, all loot tables of a certain mod, or specific dimensions, so those chests are never converted. Containers can be set to decay: a configurable time after first opening, the next attempt to open one destroys the block. The opposite also exists: chests can refresh, regenerating their contents after a configured period.[1]
Unverified No Lootr config files were available for this pack, so whether the pack enables decay or refresh, which blacklists it uses, and whether sneak-breaking is still allowed here could not be confirmed. Check the in-game behaviour or the pack's config folder before relying on any of these.
Existing worlds and conversion
- Adding Lootr to an existing world converts loot containers, but containers that were already opened are not converted. Vanilla removes the loot table when it generates the loot, and Lootr can't recover it.[1]
- If a container from another mod doesn't convert and always holds the same items, that mod is probably generating its loot manually. Lootr can't find a loot table in that case, so nothing is converted.[1]
- The axe chest in the vanilla Woodland Mansion has no loot table and is never converted.[1]
Custom containers
Lootr also has custom inventories that look like a chest, which are handy for a starter chest everyone can take from. Fill a vanilla chest with the items you want, stand on it, and run the /lootr custom command. It requires operator privileges.[1]
Lootr advancements
The mod's advancements show which things Lootr covers beyond chests.[3]
- First-time advancements exist for a Lootr chest, trapped chest, barrel, minecart and shulker box.[3]
- You can also loot an item from a Lootr item frame, and loot your first Lootr decorated pot.[3]
- Brushing the suspicious Lootr blocks counts too. There are advancements for brushing all types and for looting all of Lootr's archaeological blocks.[3]
- Count-based advancements ask you to open 10, 25, 50 and 100 Lootr containers.[3]
- Another advancement asks you to open one of every Lootr container type.[3]
How do you progress through Lootr?
Lootr has no tiers to climb in this pack. The quest chapters this guide draws on, Tips and Tricks (23 quests) and The Twilight Forest (56 quests), never ask you to obtain an item from this mod. The pack's quest book therefore gives no progression path or upgrade ladder for it.[4][5]
Unverified Whether Lootr sits anywhere on the pack's quest path, and how its items are obtained, is not shown in the sources here. The sources show no quest that asks for its items and no in-pack recipe that produces them. Check the pack's quest book and its recipe viewer in game for anything beyond that. This site does hold All the Mods 10's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.
Which All the Mods 10 quests use Lootr?
I checked the quest chapters I have for this pack, "Tips and Tricks" and "The Twilight Forest", and none of their quests asks you to obtain, place or open anything from Lootr. No task in either chapter uses an item from the lootr namespace, so there is no Lootr quest order to walk you through.[4][5]
The Twilight Forest chapter does talk about loot chests. For example, a quest in "The Twilight Forest" says Transformation Powder can be found in dungeon chests, and "Charm of Life I" quest says Charm of Life I can be found in loot chests. Those quests only describe where the items turn up. They don't mention Lootr, so I can't tell you they involve this mod.[5]
