What is Lootr?
1 part
Same as in the All the Mons 1.3.0 guide
Lootr makes sure nobody misses out on loot. Every container that has a loot table gets its own inventory for each player who opens it, so there is no race to be first into a structure and you never open a loot chest and find someone's left-over trash.[1]
It covers chests, trapped chests, barrels, shulkers and minecarts that have a loot table. These containers look different from the vanilla ones, and their colour changes from gold to blue once you have opened that container.[1]
The pack ships the NeoForge build for Minecraft 1.21.1, version 1.11.38.125. The mod is currently required on both the server and the client.[1][2]
Good to know
- Lootr only changes the containers. The loot inside is generated the same way vanilla chests generate it.[1]
- By default, if you try to break a Lootr container you get a warning that all containers are per-player. You can still break one while sneaking, unless that option is disabled in the configuration.[1]
- If a container from another mod does not convert, that mod may be filling it with items by hand instead of using a loot table, and Lootr cannot detect a loot table in that case.[1]
- Loot containers that were already opened in an existing world will not be converted when the mod is added, because vanilla loot generation removes the loot table and Lootr has no way to find that information.[1]
- To make a starter chest for everyone, fill a vanilla chest, stand on it and run the /lootr custom command. This needs operator privileges.[1]
How do you get started with Lootr?
3 parts
Lootr changes the containers you find in the world, so your first steps are about exploring and opening them.[1]
The project page says each container with a loot table (supporting chests, trapped chests, barrels, shulkers and minecarts) creates a unique inventory for every player who opens it. So there is no race to a structure, and you won't open a chest that someone else already emptied.[1]
Your first steps
- Head out to a structure and open the containers inside. The mod's names include the Loot Chest, Loot Barrel and Loot Shulker, plus the Minecart with Loot Chest and the Item Frame with Loot.[3]
- Check the colour. The project page says Lootr containers have a distinct appearance, and their colour changes from gold to blue if a player has already opened the container. That way you can see at a glance what you have already looted.[1]
- Loot everything you see, even in places a friend already visited. The project page says each player who opens a container gets a unique inventory, so a structure someone else has cleared still has loot for you.[1]
- Look out for the other Lootr containers: the Decorated Loot Pot, the copper loot chests and the suspicious sand and gravel blocks that you brush.[3]
Advancements to aim for
The mod comes with its own advancements. The first one, "It belongs in a museum! Bring instanced loot to your world.", starts the set. After that you can open your first Lootr chest, barrel, minecart, shulker box or copper chest, loot a Lootr item frame, and open one of every Lootr container type. There are also milestones for opening 10, 25, 50 and 100 Lootr containers.[3]
What to check on your server
The project page describes options for breaking containers, decay and refresh. Decay destroys a container the next time someone tries to open it, a configurable time after it was first opened, and refresh regenerates its contents after a configured period. The mod also has a client-side option that switches to vanilla textures, but then you lose the colour change that shows whether you opened a container.[1][3]
Unverified The sources here do not show this pack's Lootr settings, such as whether containers can be broken, whether they decay or refresh, or which dimensions and loot tables are excluded. Check the pack's own config files for the real values before you rely on any of it.
How does Lootr work?
6 parts
Lootr has no machines, power or fluids. Everything it does is about how loot containers behave when more than one player opens them. Each container that has a loot table creates its own inventory for every player who opens it. Nobody races to a structure first, and you never open a chest that someone else already emptied. The mod must be installed on both the server and the client.[1]
Lootr containers look different from vanilla ones. Their colour changes from gold to blue once you have opened them, so you can see at a glance which chests you have already looted.[1]
Container types
The mod adds its own versions of these containers:[3]
- Loot Barrel, Loot Chest, trapped Loot Chest and Loot Shulker.[3]
- Copper Loot Chests at each oxidation stage: plain, Exposed, Weathered and Oxidized.[3]
- Decorated Loot Pot, plus Lootr versions of suspicious sand and suspicious gravel that you brush.[3]
- Minecart with Loot Chest and Item Frame with Loot.[3]
Lootr groups the block containers into a shared tag, with sub-tags for barrels, chests, trapped chests, shulkers, sands, gravels, pots and each copper chest stage.[4]
What gets converted
Lootr swaps vanilla containers for its own when they have a loot table. The conversion tags cover vanilla barrels, vanilla chests, trapped chests, shulker boxes, suspicious sand and gravel, and decorated pots. They also pick up modded barrels and chests that use the common wooden-chest and trapped-chest tags.[5][6][7][8][9][10][11]
Every copper chest stage converts too, in both its plain and waxed forms.[12][13][14][15]
A long list of block entities is explicitly kept out of conversion, including furnaces, hoppers, dispensers, droppers, ender chests, brewing stands, jukeboxes, lecterns and spawners. Lootr's own container types are on that list as well.[16]
If a modded container will not convert, the likely reason is that its mod fills it with fixed items instead of using a loot table, and Lootr cannot work with that. An empty container may just be decoration.[1]
You can add Lootr to an existing world and containers will convert, but containers that were already opened will not. Opening a vanilla loot container removes its loot table, so Lootr has nothing to convert. Removing the mod later removes every Lootr container from your world, with no way to undo the conversion.[1]
Conversion settings
Lootr's settings descriptions list several switches for conversion. A disable option prevents any conversion at all. Others set dimension whitelists and blacklists, and there are loot table blacklists, either per loot table or per mod. A force whitelist can override other mods' blacklist entries. Structure item frames convert to Lootr item frames by default. The Elytra item frame in the End City ship converts to a Lootr item frame by default, and there is a separate option to turn it into a Lootr chest instead.[3]
Lootr also ships structure tags for a whitelist, blacklist, decay and refresh. In the mod's own files, each of these tags has an empty list of values.[17][18][19][20]
Decay and refresh
Lootr has optional decay and refresh timers. With decay, a container is destroyed a set time after it was first opened, the next time someone tries to open it. With refresh, a container regenerates its contents after a set time. Both are meant for dungeon mods, so players cannot loot an already cleared dungeon again.[1]
Decay is off by default. You can turn it on for all containers, for chosen dimensions, or for chosen loot tables or loot table mod ids. The decay timer is counted in ticks (20 per second), and the mod's own description gives a default of 5 minutes. Decay can happen during the world tick, which breaks loaded containers, or only when a container is next opened.[3]
Containers that are decaying or refreshing show particles, and players get notifications about the countdown. Options exist to turn off the notifications and their formatting, and to skip a notification when the remaining time is above a limit. The mod's description gives a default of 30 seconds for that limit.[3]
Breaking containers
By default, trying to break a container shows a warning that containers are per-player. You can still break it while sneaking, unless the option is changed. Lootr's break mode can be set to prevent breaking entirely or to always allow it. Another option lets a sneaking player who breaks a container mark it as opened and drop their own loot. Fake players such as turtles and miners can break containers only if a separate option is enabled.[1][3]
A set of prevent_break tags exists for barrels, chests, trapped chests, shulkers, sands, gravels, pots and the copper chest stages.[21]
Other protections are also configurable. Containers inside spawn protection can still be opened by players without permission, by default. Lootr's brushable blocks and item frames can be set to stay in place when their supporting block is broken. Explosion resistance can be set to resistant or immune.[3]
Drops and custom containers
When you break a Lootr chest, you get the matching vanilla item back, such as Chest, and it keeps any custom name. The Lootr copper chests drop the waxed vanilla versions. The Centennial Trophy block drops Centennial Trophy.[22][23][24]
You can also make your own Lootr container. Place a vanilla chest, fill it with the items you want everyone to get, and stand on it while running the /lootr custom command. You need operator privileges for this, and the container looks like a Lootr chest. An option makes these custom containers emit a redstone signal when opened, like a trapped chest, and it is off by default.[1][3]
Unverified The sources here do not show whether the pack changes any Lootr setting, such as decay, refresh, break mode or the dimension and loot table lists. No Lootr config file for the pack was provided, so check the pack's Lootr config for its actual values.
How do you progress through Lootr?
1 part
Same as in the All the Mods 11 0.10.0-beta guide
There is no tier ladder for Lootr that I can show you here. What the sources do confirm is what each Lootr block gives back when you break it, so that is what this section covers.[25]
What Lootr blocks drop
- Lootr chest: drops a regular Chest, and the custom name from the block is copied onto it.[25]
- Lootr trapped chest: drops a regular Trapped Chest.[26]
- Lootr barrel: drops a regular Barrel.[27]
- Lootr shulker box: drops a regular Shulker Box.[28]
- Lootr copper chests: the plain, exposed, weathered and oxidized versions drop Waxed Copper Chest, Waxed Exposed Copper Chest, Waxed Weathered Copper Chest and Waxed Oxidized Copper Chest respectively.[29][30][31][32]
- Lootr suspicious sand and suspicious gravel: drop plain Sand and Gravel.[33][34]
- Lootr trophy: drops Centennial Trophy itself.[35]
- Lootr decorated pot: its block loot table defines no drop pools.[36]
What changed in Lootr between versions?
1 part
FTB Evolution 2 1.1.0 ships Lootr 1.23.38.123, built for 26.1.2. The pack's mod list says Lootr was already in the pack in 1.0.2 or earlier, so this isn't a new addition.[37]
What the 1.23.38.123 changelog covers
The changelog for this build is mostly a port of work from the 1.21.1 version of the mod. Several of the entries are listed as forward-ports from that version. The list I was given is cut off, so it may not be the full set of changes.[38]
- Team loot: the port from 1.21.1 begins with an entry for team loot.[38]
- Refresh and decay: there are new refresh/decay particles, and updates are now performed when you set refresh or decay. A forward-port also makes refreshing apply to block entities as well as entities.[38]
- Problematic loot tables: the changelog lists a forward-port of service-based problematic loot tables.[38]
- Config: new configs were properly included, the config value for tick delay was added, config-to-client sync was ported, and the cached pinned resolver is cleared when the config changes.[38]
- Notifications and toasts: toasts were ported to 26.1.2, and notification checks are now obeyed on the client side only.[38]
- Performance: openers are now memoized.[38]
- Fixes: a minecarts tag fix was forward-ported, and the particle check was brought to parity.[38]
- Translations: Crowdin updates landed, including new Russian and Chinese Simplified en_us.json translations.[38]
Unverified Pack changelog entries for Lootr are not shown in the sources here, so what changed for this mod between individual FTB Evolution 2 releases is unverified. The pack's own changelogs are the place to check that.
