What is Lootr?

2 parts

Lootr makes sure nobody misses out on loot. Every container that has a loot table (chests, trapped chests, barrels, shulkers and minecarts) gives each player their own inventory when they open it. There's no race to a structure, and you'll never open a chest that someone else already emptied.[1]

These containers also look different from vanilla ones. They show up gold, and the colour changes to blue once you've opened that container yourself. The mod only changes the containers. Loot is generated exactly as vanilla chests generate it.[1]

This pack includes Lootr 1.21.1-1.11.38.125, the NeoForge build. It has been in the pack since version 1.0 or earlier. Lootr is currently required on both the client and the server.[1][2]

Good to know

  • The mod can blacklist specific loot tables, every loot table from a certain mod, or whole dimensions, so those containers are never converted.[1]
  • Containers can be set to "decay", which destroys the block the next time someone tries to open it after a configurable time has passed since it was first opened. The opposite also exists: containers can "refresh" and re-generate their contents after a set time.[1]
  • By default, trying to break a container gives you a warning. You can still break it while sneaking, unless that option is disabled in the configuration.[1]
  • A client-side option forces the default vanilla look, but then you lose the visual hint that a container was already opened.[1]
  • Operators can turn a vanilla chest into a custom Lootr "starter" chest by filling it and running the /lootr custom command while standing on it.[1]
Watch out: If Lootr is ever removed from a world, every Lootr-converted container is removed with it. There is currently no way to undo the conversion.[1]

I can't confirm which of the options above this pack changes, because the pack's Lootr config isn't in my sources. Treat the details above as what the mod can do, not as the pack's settings.[1][2]

In the quest book

The Chapter 1 quests I can see ("Chapter 1: Starting out") don't mention Lootr. 12 of that chapter's 46 quests aren't included in my sources, so check the quest book itself for anything on Lootr there.[3]

How do you get started with Lootr?

2 parts

Good news: Lootr doesn't ask you to build anything first. It changes how loot containers behave. Every container with a loot table (chests, trapped chests, barrels, shulkers and minecarts) gives each player their own inventory when they open it. Nobody races you to the loot, and you never find a chest someone else already picked clean.[1]

You can spot these containers by their look. They have a distinct appearance, and the colour changes from gold to blue once you've opened one. Lootr must be installed on both the server and the client, so if you play multiplayer, everyone needs it.[1]

Your first steps

  1. Find a Lootr container, such as a Loot Chest, a Loot Barrel or a Loot Shulker, and open it. The inventory you see is yours alone.[1][4]
  2. Look at the colour afterwards. Blue means you've already opened it, so you know not to go back.[1]
  3. Try the other container types. Lootr also has a Decorated Loot Pot, an item frame with loot and a minecart with a loot chest, and each has its own advancement.[4]

Advancements to chase

Lootr adds its own advancements, which make a handy checklist. The root one is about bringing instanced loot to your world. After that you can open your first Lootr chest, barrel, minecart, shulker box or trapped chest, loot an item from an item frame, and loot a decorated pot.[4]

  • Open 10, 25, 50 and then 100 Lootr containers.[4]
  • Open one of every Lootr container type.[4]
  • Brush all types of suspicious Lootr blocks, which come as suspicious sand and suspicious gravel.[4]
Tip: The mod's default is that trying to break a container shows a warning and a reminder that containers are per-player. This pack's own setting for that is unverified, so don't count on it.[1]

Unverified No crafting recipe for Lootr containers was found in the pack data, and no Lootr config file is included, so there is nothing to craft or tune for this mod.

How does Lootr work?

6 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Lootr has no machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or item automation. The sources describe it as a mod that changes how loot containers behave, so this section covers instanced loot, how containers look, and the options that control them.[1]

Instanced loot per player

Every container that has a loot table gets its own inventory for each player who opens it. That covers chests, trapped chests, barrels, shulker boxes and minecarts. There's no race to a structure, and you'll never open a chest and find someone else's leftovers.[1]

Lootr is currently required on both the server and the client, so there is no server-only version at the moment.[1]

Lootr only changes the containers. Loot is generated exactly as vanilla chests generate it. If you want to change what drops, that's done through data packs or other mods, not through Lootr.[1]

How containers look

Lootr containers have a distinct look. Their colour changes from gold to blue once you've opened them, so you can see at a glance what you've already looted.[1]

A client-side option forces containers to use the default vanilla skin. The trade-off is that you lose the visual hint of whether you've opened a container.[1]

Breaking, decay and refresh

By default in the mod, breaking a container gives you a warning that containers are available per player. You can still break one by sneaking, unless that option is disabled in the configuration.[1]

The mod can also blacklist specific loot tables, all loot tables of a certain mod, or specific dimensions, so those chests are never converted. Containers can be set to decay: a configurable time after first opening, the next attempt to open one destroys the block. The opposite also exists: chests can refresh, regenerating their contents after a configured period.[1]

Unverified No Lootr config files were available for this pack, so whether the pack enables decay or refresh, which blacklists it uses, and whether sneak-breaking is still allowed here could not be confirmed. Check the in-game behaviour or the pack's config folder before relying on any of these.

Existing worlds and conversion

  • Adding Lootr to an existing world converts loot containers, but containers that were already opened are not converted. Vanilla removes the loot table when it generates the loot, and Lootr can't recover it.[1]
  • If a container from another mod doesn't convert and always holds the same items, that mod is probably generating its loot manually. Lootr can't find a loot table in that case, so nothing is converted.[1]
  • The axe chest in the vanilla Woodland Mansion has no loot table and is never converted.[1]
Watch out: Removing Lootr also removes every Lootr container from your world, and the conversion can't be undone.[1]

Custom containers

Lootr also has custom inventories that look like a chest, which are handy for a starter chest everyone can take from. Fill a vanilla chest with the items you want, stand on it, and run the /lootr custom command. It requires operator privileges.[1]

Lootr advancements

The mod's advancements show which things Lootr covers beyond chests.[5]

  • First-time advancements exist for a Lootr chest, trapped chest, barrel, minecart and shulker box.[5]
  • You can also loot an item from a Lootr item frame, and loot your first Lootr decorated pot.[5]
  • Brushing the suspicious Lootr blocks counts too. There are advancements for brushing all types and for looting all of Lootr's archaeological blocks.[5]
  • Count-based advancements ask you to open 10, 25, 50 and 100 Lootr containers.[5]
  • Another advancement asks you to open one of every Lootr container type.[5]

How do you progress through Lootr?

There isn't a progression path or tier ladder to walk through for Lootr in this pack, at least not one I can confirm. The quest chapter I have, Chapter 1: Starting out with its 46 quests, never asks for a Lootr item and never mentions the mod.[3]

I'd rather tell you that straight than invent a path for you. If you're looking for what the quest book does cover early on, that chapter is about the Sky start, sieves, barrels and the first generators, and none of it involves Lootr.[3]

Unverified No recipes, tiers or upgrade steps for Lootr could be confirmed from the pack's data, so none are listed here.

Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use Lootr?

The quest sources I have for this pack only cover Chapter 1: Starting out, which has 46 quests. None of their tasks ask for an item from this mod (the lootr namespace), so there is no Lootr quest to walk you through in that chapter.[3]

That means I can't give you a quest order for Lootr here. If the quest book mentions the mod in a later chapter, it isn't covered by the sources I was given, so check the book in-game.[3]

Which Lootr config options matter?

Same as in the All the Mods 10 2.11 guide

There's nothing to report here: the pack ships no config file for this mod, so it runs on whatever the mod does out of the box. Nothing has been tweaked or overridden for you, which means the behaviour you read about elsewhere in this guide is simply how the mod behaves by default.[1]

That default behaviour is the part that actually matters for play. Every container that has a loot table (chests, trapped chests, barrels, shulkers and minecarts) gives each player their own instanced inventory, and those containers look distinct, shifting from gold to blue once you've opened them.[1]

Watch out: The mod is required on both the client and the server, so you can't drop it from one side to change how it behaves. There is no server-only version.[1]

Unverified Specific config keys, such as options for which containers get converted, decay or refresh timers, or blacklists for particular structures, can't be confirmed for this pack because no config file for the mod is included in it. Don't assume any value you see quoted for other packs applies here.

What changed in Lootr between versions?

1 part

All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.4 ships Lootr 1.21.1-1.11.38.125. Lootr has been in the pack since 1.0 or earlier. The notes below come from the mod's own changelogs, newest first.[2]

Lootr 1.21.1 builds

  • 1.11.38.125 (the version in this pack): converting a container in an emergency now triggers an advancement. It also fixes "suspicious" blocking chest opening, and the limiter is no longer overridden. Particles are now tested for line of sight, using the particle's center in the frustum.[2][6]
  • 1.11.37.118: the block convert blacklist now actually works. This build also includes a fix for issue #783 and a Korean translation update.[7]
  • 1.11.36.116: fixes refreshing constantly refreshing.[8]
  • 1.11.36.114: fixes the tag checker for NeoForge and brings in Crowdin translation updates.[9]
  • 1.10.35.92 (a 1.21 build): fixes /lootr clear not resetting the visual and starts improving the clear function.[10]
  • 1.10.35.91 (a 1.21 build): fixes inverted logic for shulker boxes and ports /lootr cclear to 1.21.[11]

If you used the clear commands or the block convert blacklist on an older Lootr build, these fixes are already in the version you have now.[6][7][10][11]
