What is Artifacts?
1 part
Artifacts is all about making exploration pay off. It adds powerful items that cannot be crafted, so the only way to get them is to go out and find them. If you like poking around structures, digging up archaeology sites and hunting for loot, this mod is for you.[1]
Artifacts turn up in chests in vanilla structures, through archaeology, or very rarely worn by entities. Each artifact only appears in a few chests, so you will need to search widely. The mod also adds an underground campsite structure. Mimics sometimes spawn there instead of a chest and attack players who get too close. They always drop a random artifact when you kill them.[1]
The pack ships Artifacts 13.2.3 for NeoForge.[2]
What you get
Every artifact has its own model when equipped, and each one gives you a special ability. The pack has a dedicated Artifacts quest chapter with one quest per item, and each quest describes what that item does.[1][3]
- Rooted Boots let you slowly consume the grass you stand on for Hunger and Saturation. The block turns briefly to dirt before it grows back. See "Rooted Boots" quest.[3]
- Charm of Shrinking let you shrink, grow or stabilize your own size. Being smaller softens your falls and makes mobs lose sight of you more easily. See "Charm of Shrinking" quest.[3]
- Strider Shoes let you walk across lava while sneaking. See "Strider Shoes" quest.[3]
- Scarf of Invisibility fades you out of sight if you stand still for a few seconds. Moving, fighting or interacting breaks the effect. See "Scarf of Invisibility" quest.[3]
- Kitty Slippers have 2 abilities: they keep Creepers and Phantoms at a distance, and they sometimes save you from a killing blow. See "Kitty Slippers" quest.[3]
Unverified Where Artifacts fits in the pack's overall progression is not confirmed by the sources, and the mod is not on the ATM Star quest path.
How do you get started with Artifacts?
4 parts
Here's the twist with Artifacts: you don't start by crafting anything. The mod is built around powerful items that cannot be crafted, so your first steps are about going out and finding them.[1]
Go exploring
Artifacts turn up in chests in vanilla structures and through archaeology. Very rarely you'll also see one worn by a mob. Each artifact can only be found in a few specific chests, so a wide search pays off more than camping one spot.[1]
Find an underground campsite
The mod adds an underground campsite structure. Occasionally it has a mimic instead of a chest. Mimics are dangerous and attack players who get too close, but they always drop a random artifact when killed, so it's a fight worth preparing for.[1]
Equip what you find
Every artifact has its own model when equipped. The mod can add slots to the Curios, Trinkets or Accessories menus and let artifacts be equipped in them. Tooltips that explain each item's effects can be switched on or off in the client config, so keep them on while you learn what you've found.[1][4]
The pack has an Artifacts quest chapter with a quest for each artifact, and the ones shown here simply ask you to obtain the item itself. A good first one to chase is Digging Claws. Its quest calls them one of our favorites and says they're super helpful for building and just playing in general. See "Digging Claws" quest.[3]
The one thing you can cook
The only recipes I can confirm for this mod in the pack are for Eternal Steak. You make it by cooking Everlasting Beef in a furnace, a smoker or a campfire, and the result is the same in all three. The quest book has entries for both, see "Eternal Steak" quest and "Everlasting Beef" quest.[3][5]
How does Artifacts work?
4 parts
Artifacts is not a machine mod. There is no power, fluid or item-pipe handling to set up. It adds treasure items that you can't craft, and the mechanics are about how you find them and how you wear them.[1]
Where artifacts come from
- Chests in vanilla structures. Each artifact only appears in a few specific chests, so exploring pays off.[1]
- Archaeology: the mod has a chance for an artifact to generate in suspicious sand or gravel.[1][4]
- Entities: skeletons, zombies and piglins can very rarely spawn wearing one.[1][4]
- Underground campsites: a new structure that holds a chest, or sometimes a mimic instead.[1][4]
Mimics are dangerous enemies that attack players who get too close to them. A mimic always drops a random artifact when you kill it.[1]
The pack adds the mimic to its own "jank blacklist" of entity types. That list is applied to several mob-handling tags, including spawner blacklists for Apothic Spawners, Ender IO and Oritech, the Ender IO soul vial blacklist, the Industrial Foregoing mob duplicator and mob crusher blacklists, and the Mob Grinding Utils swab and spawn blacklists. So don't plan on farming mimics with those tools.[6]
Wearing artifacts
Every artifact has its own model when equipped. The mod can add its slots to the Curios, Trinkets or Accessories menus, and each of those is a separate option. There is also a face slot for the Snorkel and Night Vision Goggles, which only works with Trinkets.[1][4]
This pack takes artifacts out of the Accessories slots. Its script removes the artifact slot tags for belt, hands, head, face, necklace and feet from the matching Accessories tags, so don't count on equipping them through Accessories.[6]
Cooldowns and tooltips
Some artifacts go on cooldown after they activate. The mod can show those cooldowns next to the hotbar, and the offset of that display is adjustable. Artifacts can also carry tooltips explaining their effects, which is handy since you won't find a guidebook for this mod in the pack.[4]
Food artifacts
Everlasting Beef is a food artifact that can drop when a player kills a cow or a mooshroom. After you eat it, it goes on a cooldown. Cooking it gives you Eternal Steak from Everlasting Beef. The Eternal Steak has its own cooldown after being eaten.[4][5]
You can cook it in a furnace, a smoker or a campfire. These are the pack's recipes:[5]
How do you progress through Artifacts?
4 parts
The pack's Artifacts quests don't show any tiers or unlock order. Each quest I can see has a single task, which is just owning that artifact's item. You can chase them in whatever order suits your playstyle.[3]
How the quest chapter works
Every quest describes what the artifact does, and many of them split the ability into a base effect plus extras that grow the longer you use it. The Warp Drive is a good example: it stops your Ender Pearls being consumed, and as you get more attuned to it, the teleport damage disappears too. The Rooted Boots work the same way, adding healing and occasional bonemeal as you grow attuned.[3]
So the only progression these quests describe is per item. You pick up an artifact, wear it, and its abilities grow with use.[3]
Related artifacts the quests point out
- The Power Glove is described as the other side of the Feral Claws: the glove is about the damage you deal, not the speed you deal it.[3]
- The Flame Pendant is described as similar to the Thorn Pendant, just hotter.[3]
- The Novelty Drinking Hat does exactly the same thing as the Plastic Drinking Hat. The only difference is the look.[3]
- The Cloud in a Bottle raises how far you can fall safely, just like Bunny Hoppers do.[3]
Digging Claws
The Digging Claws get special attention in the pack. The quest calls them one of the favorites, and says they let your bare fists chew through blocks like a Stone Pickaxe. A separate quest in the Building Tips chapter, placed after the Paxel quest, also covers them and says up front that they aren't necessary but are very helpful.[3][7]
Eternal Steak
The only Artifacts recipes in the pack's recipe dump are for Eternal Steak, which has its own quest "Eternal Steak" quest. You make it by cooking Everlasting Beef in a furnace, a smoker or a campfire. The Everlasting Beef quest "Everlasting Beef" quest says it's a rare find from slaughtering enough Cows, and that it can be eaten like Raw Beef without disappearing, since each bite spends a bit of durability that slowly regenerates.[3][5]
Furnace: the smelting recipe for Eternal Steak.
Smoker: the smoking recipe for Eternal Steak.
Campfire: the campfire cooking recipe for Eternal Steak.
Which All the Mons quests use Artifacts?
3 parts
The Artifacts quests live in their own chapter, called "Artifacts". Each artifact has its own quest, and each quest's task is simply the matching artifact item. The quest text describes the item's ability in a playful voice, which makes the chapter a handy in-game cheat sheet.[3]
What the chapter covers
The quests are named after the items, so it's easy to find the one you want. A few examples, grouped by what they do:[3]
- Movement: "Running Shoes" quest for Running Shoes, "Bunny Hoppers" quest for Bunny Hoppers, "Cloud in a Bottle" quest for Cloud in a Bottle (a double jump) and "Helium Flamingo" quest for Helium Flamingo.[3]
- Water: "Snorkel" quest for the Snorkel, "Flippers" quest for Flippers, "Aqua-Dashers" quest for Aqua-Dashers and "Charm of Sinking" quest for the Charm of Sinking.[3]
- Combat: "Feral Claws" quest for Feral Claws, "Power Glove" quest for the Power Glove, "Fire Gauntlet" quest for the Fire Gauntlet and "Withered Bracelet" quest for the Withered Bracelet.[3]
- Survival and defense: "Chorus Totem" quest for the Chorus Totem, "Antidote Vessel" quest for the Antidote Vessel, "Steadfast Spikes" quest for Steadfast Spikes and "Obsidian Skull" quest for the Obsidian Skull.[3]
- Mining and utility: "Digging Claws" quest for Digging Claws, "Pickaxe Heater" quest for the Pickaxe Heater, "Onion Ring" quest for the Onion Ring and "Universal Attractor" quest for the Universal Attractor.[3]
- Travel: "Warp Drive" quest for the Warp Drive, which the quest text says stops your Ender Pearls from being consumed when thrown.[3]
Digging Claws in Building Tips
The mod also shows up outside its own chapter. The Building Tips chapter has an untitled quest, a quest in "Building Tips", whose task is the Digging Claws. It comes after the Paxel quest in that chapter. The quest text calls it not necessary but very helpful, and says it raises your pickaxe tier for your hands so you can mine up to Iron Ore with just your fists.[7]
The Digging Claws quest in the Artifacts chapter describes the same item a little differently, saying your bare fists chew through blocks like a Stone Pickaxe. Both are quest flavor text, so test it yourself before relying on an exact tier.[3][7]
Order
Unverified The visible part of the quest data doesn't show which Artifacts quests depend on each other, so the order you should tackle them in is unconfirmed. The only dependency shown is that the Building Tips Digging Claws quest comes after Paxel.
Which Artifacts config options matter?
Same as in the All the Mods 10 0.50 guide
Unverified No config options or values for Artifacts in this pack could be confirmed, so I can't tell you which options exist here or whether the pack changed anything from the mod defaults.
What the mod's project page does describe is how artifacts are obtained. They can't be crafted. You find them in chests in vanilla structures, through archaeology, or very rarely worn by entities.[1]
The mod also adds an underground campsite structure. Mimics occasionally spawn there instead of chests, they attack players who get too close, and they always drop a random artifact when killed.[1]
